Chapter Text
After that amazing morning in Paris, all our leading ladies started gearing up for what felt like the fight of their lives.
Nobody had really slept beforehand for obvious reasons. So, they’d taken turns watching Mira and Ruby sleep. And, congratulating Kara and Lena (who’d decided to spill their pregnancy news earlier than planned, given Maggie kinda guessed, they all needed something extra to hope for, and they didn’t want to die not seeing their loved ones’ reactions).
Also, the femme fatales spent considerable time checking and rechecking their weapons, brilliantly-disguised black kryptonite pile included.
Wanting to bring some much-needed levity to the situation, Alex cracked a bit of a semi-joke with her usual playful sarcasm as everyone but Sam/Reign (who was taking watch over their girls) sat on the couch with their favorite alcohol in hand.
“I still can’t believe we’re adding four babies to the family! Guess I’m gonna have to clear my social calendar for some more babysitting time. And, buy some clothes pins to clamp my nose shut because of all the poop, huh?”
Finding the wisecrack to be equal parts accurate and hilarious, Maggie, Kara, and Lena all chuckled full-heartedly, forgetting what they were up against for a few pleasant seconds. Especially when the darling detective rubbed her love’s thigh in support as well as amusement, joined their hands, and adoringly snarked back, “Just consider it practice for all the babies we’re gonna make, babe.”
Alex flushed so hard at that statement and the suggestive eyebrow wiggling which followed it that she ended up drinking the rest of her Scotch in one gulp, then getting up to offer everyone else some alcohol with ruddy cheeks and semi-glassy eyes. A request everyone else lovingly turned down, given what they’d need to face in just hours.
They’d decided to give Mira and Ruby extra strength children’s sedatives so they’d never remember being part of the fight. Instead, the little ones would sleep through everything with adorably drooly smiles on their faces, given they – unlike their mothers – were only being used as bait until they could be evacuated using Lena’s magic.
An imminent reality which, once their timer rang out across the suddenly quiet den, hit them harder than any drink ever could.
“Get ready,” Alex solemnly ordered from the kitchen after turning the timer off, cup of coffee in hand and hands shaking from the nerves of what they were about to do.
Not needing to be told twice, everyone started zipping, clipping, loading, strapping down, and otherwise finalizing their gear for the fight of their lives.
Then, after registering the timer was going off from afar, Sam/Reign brought their precious older pups into the den as well, such that she gently laid them down on the couch in their Ninja Turtle blankets and My Little Pony pajama sets. She’d get ready, too, by making a super speedy trip to and from her house, such that she’d don some extra weapons she’d hidden under her house in case of an emergency like this one.
“In case this is our last time for any reason, Mira, please know I’ll always love you. That I’ll always be watching over you, and I’ll be waiting for you on the other side,” Kara whispered with tears in her eyes and enough love in her heart to fuel a grenade launcher, such that she cradled her eldest in her arms and rocked her. Just like when she was a newborn.
Tearing up in part because of that moment and the intense pheromones already cascading through her system, Lena wrapped her loves in her arms, kissed the bigger blonde’s cheek, and burrowed into her nearest shoulder. All before trying to say the millionth thing to reassure her soulmate which she knew could never fully eradicate their fears, but she intended to say to give them hope. And, to give them fight.
“You can do this, Kara. I know you, and I know your heart.”
When Kara shrugged while crying and holding Mira’s little hand, Lena lovingly continued while combing through those straw-colored, slightly curly locks with her fingers, “You’ve survived a terrible meteor shower, the loss of your home planet, and so much more devastation. You sacrificed five years’ worth of time we could have been together like I’d hoped, all to protect us.”
Instead of fighting her love or continuing to cry, Kara wiped her eyes and met her love’s by turning over one shoulder. Actions which made the good witch-scientist lovingly cup one tear-streaked cheek and finish her thoughts.
“I know you’ll come out the other side alive and well, my love. I know you’ll get to see Mira grow up and take her to her first sire-daughter dance at Rainbow Scouts like the adorkable goofball you are. I know we’ll see each other down the aisle of our wedding, with you in a dashing suit and me in a . . . well, whatever I can cook up. I don’t quite know what will fit around me once I’m close to giving birth with this litter.”
Giggling some over those images despite her tears, Kara took the hand which had been supporting the underside of Mira’s legs, cupped her love’s cheek as well, and did what she did best. Specifically, tried to make a funny amid an incredibly difficult situation. Just like the characters she’d written about in her books did.
“When we survive this whole thing, we’re eloping in Fiji. Just the two of us. Totally naked.”
Full out laughing over that unexpected response and the incredibly hot imagery to follow it, Lena just slumped into her soulmate in loving defeat. Then, she replied with some affectionate snark of her own while drying her happy tears, “You’d better hope I’m not pregnant anymore by then, darling. ‘Cause when I’m done marrying you, I’m gonna make the oceans shake because of what I’m gonna do to you.”
Smiling playfully as well as mischievously, but also with some sincerity which Lena didn’t quite recognize, Kara ended their conversation without realizing those would be the last words she’d say to her love until whatever happened happened.
“Pregnant or not, big with our litter or not, you’re always gonna make the oceans shake, Lena Bear. Because that’s who you are. That’s what you do. And, no one and nothing can take that kind of power from you.”
Tearing up again over how sweet those words were, and feeling like she’d been impregnated all over again by them, Lena moved to kiss her love soundly. Something which didn’t last long because Maggie, Alex, and Sam/Reign with a Ruby newly in tow cleared their throats in time, such that they looked at each other with knowing eyes and said to the couple in time, “God, you two make The Notebook look bleak.”
Kara and Lena would blush bashfully, but still take a moment to lovingly stare into each other’s eyes. All until J’onn came in and knowingly asked, “Is everyone ready?”
A question which all the adults nodded to, then responded to in kind by following their space dad and the three newly-awakened field agents who agreed to help them out from the sidelines.
Specifically, followed everyone else out to face and end their worst nightmare.
—
J’onn and the three field agents spared no expense in getting everyone the additional equipment they needed for the battle ahead.
Specifically, Reign/Sam drove with Ruby in one arm and their tank’s steering device in the other, Kara and Lena took one tank together with Mira resting between them, and Alex and Maggie took a third tank with their own “babies” – a bag of black kryptonite grenade launchers for all – between them. All while the three agents and J’onn supported them from above in equally magic-protected, invisible, and soundless choppers which toted equipment designed to release as well as control the intensity of the black kryptonite they’d planted to take him down.
Feeling like they needed something to psych themselves up, Kara had all the adults contribute to a rather badass playlist which sounded in their respective choppers. A playlist which included songs like “Here We Go” from the Godzilla vs. Kong movie, “The Resistance” by Skillet, “Tell That Devil” from Wynonna Earp, and “Light ‘Em Up” by Fallout Boy.
Thankfully, everyone was already on edge enough for the songs to work their magic. Especially by the time our heroes all arrived at the spot where they’d intended to bait Ragnarok at.
And, because the pure darkness had zero patience for playing games with his prey left, it didn’t take long for him to arrive like clockwork.
“Hello, Kara and Reign. Come to surrender your abominable halflings and join me in . . . heavenly procreation to restore the old race ?”
Just as disgusted as they were scared by the rather large, tornado-like mass of energy with eyes which went from evil yellow-white when looking at them to pure red when looking at Mira and Ruby, Kara and Sam/Reign stood their ground and barked something back.
“WE’RE NOT HERE TO SURRENDER! WE’VE COME TO MAKE SURE YOU DO OR DIE!”
Equal parts angered and aroused by his prey’s resistance, Ragnarok shouted something back to the duo which purposefully twisted their words.
“THEN DIE YOU SHALL! AAAHHHHHHHH!”
And, just like that, Ragnarok began the battle by shooting the biggest shot of laser vision either woman had seen at them.
A shot of laser vision they’d have to scramble to get Mira, Ruby, and themselves out of the way of in time, due to its intense speed and capacity to create tank-sized craters.
A shot of laser vision J’onn was trying to counter using his telepathy.
A shot of laser vision the three field agents who’d recent been revived were trying to study the trajectory of to best advise their boots on the ground allies where to move to next.
A shot of laser vision Maggie and Alex were gathering data on to create countermeasures, especially given their underground stock of black kryptonite had been blown everywhere.
And, a shot which Lena got out of her equally magic-protected tank over, despite the orders she’d originally agreed to.
