Four Moons

Chapter 5: Everlasting love

Chapter Text

“Moon Young-ah, where are you?” Trying to find his wife, Gang Tae’s eyes swept over the bedroom.

He just put their twins to bed and made sure each of them slept comfortably - with their mouths wide open - under the warmth of wool blankets picked by their Mom

Even when they slept, they resembled their dad too much. Gang Tae felt proud and baffled at the same time.

“I’m here!” Her voice emerged from inside the bathroom.

“Can I come in?”

“Sure, I just changed my robe.”

Feeding time with her boys was always chaotic since they can’t stay still and always moved a lot. Moon Young had a difficult time keeping them in place and must clean herself every time she finished nursing them.

Gang Tae slowly opened the bathroom and caught her standing in front of the mirror in her black satin robe.

From the back, she looked every inch like a dream.

Under reflection of the bathroom lights, her long black hair fell down smoothly, her small frame looks fragile but enchanting all together. Too many wonders came out of her body - the latest magic was their twins.

As she reached the lower cabinet to take out a small container made from glass, Gang Tae sat on the couch and pulled her so she stood right in front of him, with his face facing her belly.

“I’ll do it.” His low and heavy voice won her over.

He grabbed the jar from her hand and took a small amount of cream with the tips of his long fingers. With a careful touch, he applied the cream to the lower part of her belly, massaging and applying the right pressure to the white pearly skin.

“I’m sorry.” He mumbled low.

“Hmm?”

“Your scars. They always remind me of your sufferings when you had the boys in your belly.”

He made sure the cream was fully absorbed on her skin before he hugged her, leaning his cheek on her postpartum belly. No more babies inside her, but he can still remember the sensation of feeling two babies kicking and moving.

“I was afraid.” The tone in his voice was heavy.

“About what?”

“I was afraid I can’t make you smile again,” he closed his eyes, trying to forget the image of her, trying to endure the pain as their babies grew bigger, “you had a very difficult pregnancy. having them in your tummy was risky and hard – I remember you barely got a wink of sleep every night.”

He paused in the middle of his asseveration to sighed deeply.

“Your morning sickness, your back pain, your walking difficulty… I kept asking myself as your bump grew… Did I make a mistake? Did I make you suffer? I never thought that we’re having twins. Two boys on top of that.”

“Gang Tae… I’m alright now.”

“Still. After you gave birth to our boys... You were in pain for days. My heart breaks every time I remember how you look back then.”

“Did I look that awful?”

“You always look pretty Moon Young… It’s just…” he held his breath in, “I can’t forgive myself. You suffered, because of me. Mianhae”

Moon Young tilted his chin so she could look into his sad eyes.

“Well, you’re right. The pregnancy was extremely difficult for me. We had our disagreements too.”

“About the nursery room?” Gang Tae tried to recall the arguments they had back then.

“And the baby clothes. You prefer plain clothes. I love the fancy ones. You know, they could have their dad’s face, but I will dress them like their mother.”

Gang Tae can only laugh at her perseverance. “I love the way you dress them, my wife. They look adorable in their baby clothes.”

A comforting silence enveloping the room for a while. None of them said a word, they just stared at each other.

“Gang Tae-ah.”

“Mmm?”

“Young Dae and Young Jae are the most beautiful things that ever happened to me.”

Gang Tae felt his entire body suddenly shudder.

The big heavy burden that hung around his heavy heart broke into small pieces and was blown away by her words.

“I never knew I could love someone like I love our children. It’s love, but it’s different from the way I love you - or Oppa. You really can’t put numbers in love, don’t you?” She spoke with a bright smile on her pretty face.

“I’ve been waiting for this moment for my whole life. A moment where I can have my own family, a place to go, a home full of people who love me.”

“I love you with all my heart Moon Young.”

“Me too,” she smacked his lips, “and every time I stare at our boys’ eyes, it does feel like I’m falling in love all over again, for the first time. And this time I know this love will last forever.”

Glimmers of happiness in her tone were unmistakable, Gang Tae can’t say anything but to hold her tighter.

“The pregnancy was hard, but it was worth everything in the end. Even If I could turn back time, I will always come back to this moment, to be with you and our boys.”

Smiling a smile of gratitude and delight, her delicate fingers stroked his hair.

“My goodness, I did marry the right person,” he brushed his cheeks on her belly again, “You came to my life and changed my whole world. I love you. You have no idea how much I love you.”

“I love you too, sweetheart,” she said as if she spoke to the twins and it made Gang Tae laugh hard.

“Ja. Let’s sleep, we have to wake up early tomorrow. I’m sure everyone in the office will be excited to see the boys for the first time.” Gang Tae stood up and carried Moon Young like a groom carrying his bride.

“Sang In asked me if he could release the boys’ pictures. There’s no way I can allow him to do that.” She complained as he put her down on the bed.

“That’s right. It’s too early now. They’re just small babies,” Gang Tae went to his side and hugged her from behind, “why did he suddenly ask you to come to the office tomorrow?”

“There are some rumours going around the writers, he said it’s a sensitive issue - it’d be better if we can have a face to face meeting.”

Gang Tae needed a few seconds to comprehend her words.

“Rumours about the writers?"

"Mmm Hmm."

"What? He’s back from Paris already??”
