Chapter 2: Epilogue

Notes:

to the three people who actually asked for the epilogue, thanks this really boosted my confidence lol

i didn't want to include it in the story because i felt like it didn't fit the initial vibe, but i still think it's a cute story so tell me what you think!

(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)

Chapter Text

“Hiiii,” Emma whispered, placing a kiss on Regina’s cheek.

“Hiii,” the brunette sleepily answered. “What time is it ?”

“Eight. I can’t believe we’re still in bed.”

“Yeah. When was the last time we slept after seven thirty ?”

“I have no idea. But maybe we could enjoy some time alone before our monsters wake up,” Emma said with a mischievous smile.

“Maybe,” Regina answered, leaning in closer and capturing Emma’s lips with hers.

They rolled on top of each other, kissing and laughing and kissing again, until they heard a knock on the door.

“Moms !” Maddie shouted.

Emma and Regina sat on the bed, their faces mourning the illusion of half an hour together this morning.

“Yes dear,” Regina said, already preparing herself for the tornado she knew was about to burst in and crash on the bed at any moment.

“Can we come in ?”

“Of course,” Emma replied.

And all of a sudden, two girls opened the door and jumped on the bed.

“How did you sleep ?”

“Fiiiiine,” three-year-old Maddie replied.

“And you, Lena ?”

The two and a half year old nodded, smiling at Regina.

Maddie looked like just Emma, blonde curls, emerald eyes. But she definitely had Regina’s temper. Lena was more of a mini Regina physically. Dark hair, chocolate brown eyes, but her mothers were pretty sure she would turn out to be all Emma-like.

“Do you wanna get breakfast at your grandparents today?” Emma asked.

“Yeahhhh !” the girls shouted at the same time.

“Ok. Go get dressed, and then we can go.”

Maddie and Lena ran out, leaving Emma and Regina on their bed.

“We were this close to having just one moment together,” Regina complained, laying her head back on her pillow.

“We drop them off at Henry’s tomorrow so they can play with Lucy. All day. Hell, maybe all week. I need one day of calm, just one.”

“Deal.”

Emma kissed Regina before getting up and gathering clothes. Regina just magically poofed into a full outfit, her hair and makeup already perfectly done.

“This is to be day 2590 of asking. How do you even do that ? And most importantly, why haven’t you taught me this trick ?”

“Because even after those 2590 days or so, it’s still fun watching you struggling over an outfit when I get my own in two seconds, honey,” Regina laughed.

“Keep going like that and it’s divorce papers I’ll get in two seconds,” she laughed back, walking over to her wife and placing her arms around her neck.

“Of course,” the Queen replied, putting her arms around Emma's waist to bring her closer.

They heard something falling from Lena’s bedroom.

“Why did we decide to have two other kids, again ?”

“It was your idea, not mine. And if our two year old is that clumsy, it’s on you, Emma.”

“If our four year old is all evil and machiavellian, that’s on you . Remember ?”

Regina pretended to be shocked as Emma kissed her cheek and rushed to their daughter’s room.

The brunette stayed in the middle of their room, laughing at how busy their life was. But more than that, the past six years she’d just spent with Emma had passed quicker than anything else. She could still recall this first time she told Emma she loved her, under the rain as she tried to make up for the time she’d broken her heart.

Her hand came to hold her necklace, where a swan pendant was hung next to a tiny heart shaped diamond key. Emma and she had given this to each other on their wedding day. Emma had the heart, and Regina, the key.

A year ago, you told me I had the key to your heart. It’s time I give you the key to mine.

It had been years spent together, they were married, had three kids, two living at home, and still, she could hardly believe how lucky she was. Her life was perfect, literally picture perfect. Just like she’d dreamed of with Emma, just like what she’d told her on this one day under the rain.

You’re the only one that I ever want to love. The one I can see me having a future with, rebuilding the family we already had, living anywhere in the city, the country, the whole wide world, or the realms. I wouldn’t even care as long as it’s all with you.

Years later, this was just as true. Her feelings were still burning, her heart still belonged with Emma’s, and everything was perfect.

“You ok Lena ?” Emma asked, entering the room.

“Yes. I hit my lamp and it broke.”

“Clumsy, no doubt you’re a Swan.”

“Swan- Mills , Ma.”

“I know,” she laughed at her daughter being so attached to both her family names. No one could say one of them without Lena adding the other.

“Lemme clean this up, go to your sister’s room.”

Lena got out, and Emma started gathering the broken pieces as she was careful not to cut her hand – again.

White sparks flew around for a bit, and as she had done countless times before when this had happened, her mind flashed to Regina, in their room, holding the pendant on her necklace. Making the shattered pieces disappear, she took hers, looking at the small black crown. This was the first gift they had ever shared, on their first valentine’s day. Regina had a white swan, and Emma had a black crown. Because even when they were apart, they would always stay with each other. Then, there was the second charm, a heart. Her own, and Regina had the key.

They had never taken the necklaces off, not once. It tied them together no matter where they were, in different realms, different cities, or just different rooms. If one of them were to have a problem, be kept away from their family, this was a reminder. A reminder that they were never alone, they belonged with someone, and they would always find their way back to each other like they had always done, after three weeks, two months, a year or ten.

The Savior had a Queen, and the Queen had a Savior. Here they were, surrounded by Snow White, Sleeping Beauty, Belle, all these princesses that had found their prince, still living the greatest love story of them all.

What better story than this one after all ? a lonely Queen spending her life taking and crushing hearts, realizing maybe having one, loving someone, wasn’t a weakness. A broken little girl thinking no one could ever love her, and then finding someone who always did.

“Regina,” Emma called, coming into their bedroom.

“Yes ?” her wife replied with a fond smile, her eyes sparkling.

“I just love you.”

“I love you too, Emma.”

They both walked towards each other, their arms immediately wrapping around one another as their heads tilted slowly, their lips coming together.

“Now, and in ten years, remember ?” Emma chuckled.

“Of course I do. Ten years ago, today, tomorrow and in ten years. Always.”

“Complicated story that is ours.”

“Sort of, I guess,” Regina giggled.

“You’re my Queen, you know that ?”

“And you’re my Savior. Forever, Emma.”

Their foreheads touched, nose brushing and eyes closed. They didn’t have many moments alone – thanks to Emma who had thought having another kid right after Maddie was a great idea, and now they had two toddlers who didn’t seem to need sleep and were both simultaneously scheming the fall of the town government (which included their mothers and grandparents) and constantly asking for food and hugs –, but when they did, they made sure that they both told each other how much their couple meant. That was the most important part after all, they loved each other.

Ten years ago, today, tomorrow, and for the next ten years.

And I promise

You're the locksmith
