Chapter Text
An outsider. Someone not part of the Firelights, clearly. That’s who dragged his attention away from his daughter, who was laughing happily with her friends on the other side of the deck.
”Relax for once,” Ekko had said, clapped him on the shoulder, and gone off. They were all together, if anything happened, they’d handle it together. That was Ekko’s reasoning, and he couldn’t fault it really. They were stronger together, it was true.
The outsider walked up the steps, looking far too clean and completely out of place. A vatsaya like most of them, but an alarmingly delicate looking one.
His jawline was sharp, cheeks maybe a little too gaunt - life in the Undercity did that to a person - and tall and thin. So tall that Scar knew he’d have to look up at him if they were close to each other.
The man hadn’t noticed him yet, his wandering gaze shifting over the people and going toward the artwork on the tree.
His profile was even prettier with his straight nose and scales just under his eyes, barely noticeable unless Scar was looking right at them. Jericho didn’t have any of those, but Jericho also didn’t look at all like this fish folk did.
Relax, Ekko told him. Fine, he’d relax. It’d been a while since he’d been with someone, and he couldn’t imagine being with anyone from the Firelights.
“Who are you?”
Startlingly ice blue eyes looked at him, effectively sending all his thoughts scattering. It felt like they cut through him, cold and sharp. Scar felt his heart give a jolt in his chest, his palms going clammy.
It’d been even longer since someone arrested him so deeply like this. Scar’s face shifted to his dark lips fleetingly and desire flared bright in him.
The man glanced to the party, releasing Scar from the spell his eyes put him under. He pointed toward the people.
Scar knew fish folk didn’t like talking - it hurt in the dry air, or something like that - but he wondered what the man would sound like, breathy and ragged.
A smirk pulled at the edges of Scar’s mouth, finding his footing and vaguely remembering how to flirt.
Sure, call him hapless and see what happens.
