When did this weight start bearing down on him, he wonders. His songs, once light and cheery and full of love for everyone, now carry a tension he does not know how to put into words.
His songs are still hopeful, for they are written for his muse, his way of showing his love because he doesn’t know how to do that in any other way. But to an untrained ear, the pain that lies within each composition goes unheard.
Does Sena hear it? The songs are meant for him to sing, he has to know that something has changed, right? Even if he doesn’t, it doesn’t make Leo think any less of him. He’s still Sena, his inspiration! There is nothing Sena could or couldn’t do that would change that.
Slowly, little by little, Leo notices little shifts in his music.
It’s subtle, but Leo is still shaken by it.
It’s a hardness that hadn’t existed before. An edge, sharp enough to hurt the ones he once called his friends he had performed with as Chess.
As he and Sena, as Knights, took down their former unit mates one after the other.
As Leo’s songs turned into weapons, used against his own loved ones.
He sighs, feeling very much like he’s the one being defeated. He might as well be, with his own songs feeling like a million swords stabbing into his chest.
He doesn’t know how much longer he can do this for. He’s exhausted, and yet, Sena’s smile as the audience cheers for their victory at each live is everything to him.
Yes, he’s hurting. But he would give his life for Sena to be happy.
Even if it destroys him completely.
