Owen couldn’t help but take note of the way Pyro seemed to beam with pride at the praise, and the special privilege. Not that he minded the rule of course. He wouldn’t have called Scott that anyway. Scott’s control over him extends only to the age difference. Even if someone the elder had turned was connected to Louis, the line would have been so thin by the time it got to him that it would be considered negligible. Scott wouldn’t have been seen any differently, even if he had never been put to sleep. Not that any of that mattered anyway, Louis had told him during one of their last few nightly chats, the one where he couldn’t stop himself from asking question after question about vampirism and Louis had just smiled so, so kindly and answered every single one with ease, that the old hierarchy had already become unpopular when he was a fledgling. That whenever he had heard another say it, the vampire who turned him would call them “old-fashioned” or “not with the times.” Of course, old habits die hard, and Scott was very old. So his lack of pressure around upholding the term was a bit…surprising. There was also Pyro themself, the fledgling was almost obsessive in gaining the elder’s approval. And Scott…while at first Owen thought Scott was indifferent towards the younger, only providing the assistance deemed required by an elder to the newest vampire, but now…he seemed fond of them. The two had been spending a fair amount of alone time together and now with Scott giving Pyro special permission to use that title. They seemed to be becoming close…almost as close as he felt with-
He quickly pulled himself out of his thoughts and back into the conversation at hand.
