They buried an empty coffin.
Hopper refused to let that be the last the world knew of Jane Hopper, refused to let his daughter forever be an unnamed girl dead to a world who never even knew her. He needed her to have somewhere to rest, a proper memorial, even if her physical self would never get to see it.
And on the gravestone read:
Jane Hopper
beloved sister, daughter and friend
"you did good kid"
