Chapter Text

Sometime after Fo.A. 100
Elladan held up the letter for his brother. “Cirdan sends greetings.”
Elrohir narrowed his eyes at his brother. “I could read that myself. So what else is in the letter?”
“He says the boats are few. He can feel the pull of Valinor.”
Elladan sighed. “Arwen is not yet gone.”
“She also insisted we return to our parents!” Elrohir frowned. “She even gave us that portrait of Eldarion and his sisters, to pass on.”
Elladan snorted at his brother. “What if she's alone?"
Elrohir sighed. Their father's prediction had scared Arwen more than she let on to him. She had asked Elladan to say until she was gone, once their father had left the shores. Elladan had promised. Yet a hundred years in and Aragon still ruled the united kingdom. The power of the elves was fading, Elrohir could feel it. He did not know how much longer they could stay and not fade. Perhaps they would fade before Aragon's death and Elladan's promise would mean nothing anyway.
He tried again. “Has she ever been? She chose this life, Elladan. She's been happy in this life. When the boats leave we will fade. Nanath and adar will lose all their children.” Elrohir had pleaded this many times.
“There are still others.”
“Elladan, who? Celeborn has gone to Thranduil. They will be on the last boat. Celeborn promised Nanath that he would see her in Valinor. The great librarian, Meriadoc Brandybuck, went to Gondolin years ago now. The last letter was from an assistant, telling of his passing.”
"Legolas is still here!"
"Legolas is with our sister! More than we are."
“I promised Arwen to not leave her alone in the end!” Elladan shouted. “When Aragon is gone, who then will be with her?”
“Her children! Just like we should be for our parents!” Elrohir missed his parents desperately. He wanted to go to Valinor and see if Nanath really had healed. He would not go without his twin. Years he’d observed how sad their adar got when remembering his twin. He would not live without Elladan in Valinor.
He tried again “We are all that's left of Imladris. We should go!”
“Arwen is not gone!” Elladan closed the argument by walking away.
Elrohir sighed. It had been the same for years now. It would be the same argument tomorrow. He hoped something would shift to convince his twin. Anything.

Notes:

I've kept this ambiguous because Tolkien never actually said if they sailed or not.
I personally would have them on a ship once Merry had died, yet for now, the argument goes on. (Imagine Celeborn pulling the two onto the last ship with him, just so his daughter gets her family. No other reason)

Notes:

Those are my EM dashes and you cannot have them! Get back fell beast! Back in the stolen void from whence the CEOs spawned you! Back I say!
