Chapter Text
“Like this song,” Ilya said. The two of them were slumped into a pile while the opening theme played.
“Yeah?”
“Mm, Yeah, it's catchy.” Shane just chuckles and they watch in silence.
Three men skating forward with an announcer talking above them, the one in the middle holding a gold medal in his hand.
“It will be the Fifth Consecutive Grand Prix Final Victory for Russia’s Legend, Victor Nikiforov.” The announcer said.
Ilya huffed a laugh and popped a piece of popcorn in his mouth, “This is great show.” Shane just shushes him and they keep watching.
“My name is Katsuki Yuuri!” The character had cut into the scene to explain who he was, neither were expecting a fourth wall break like this but they could roll with it. The character explained how he was one of the few who qualified while stats flew by behind him.
He had landed in last place in the Grand Prix.
“Man, dog dying is rough,” Ilya whistled under his breath and Shane playfully nudged him to be quiet. Of course Ilya would have to chat through the whole show. Then as Yuuri was crying in the bathroom stall it cut to a shorted boy with blond hair. In a second the shortener character was kicking the stall door and Yuri went to explain how he was the Junior Grand Prix finalist and that he was called the “Russian Punk”.
“I misjudged Rose, she had good taste,” Shane shushes Ilya.
“You can't just say that about every Russian character.”
“Why not?”
“You just can't." Ilya let a sly smile grace his lips as he pecked his boyfriend's arm. They turned their attention back to the show as the blond boy screamed “Loser!” into Yuri's face. They both jump at the loud noise before quietly giggling to themselves over it. They watch as Yuri sulks and thinks about retiring and how he thinks about how he wished he could have said goodbye to his dog, Victor.
“He names his dog after the first guy,” Shane grumbled.
“No way.” Ilya giggled again and shoved more popcorn into his mouth.
Then Yuri was watching the actual Victor, who noticed and asked if Yuri had wanted to get a photo with him.
Ilya audibly laughed at that, Shane following after.
Yuri turned and walked away without acknowledging the Russian figure skater.
The two of them laughed harder.
“Remind me of when we met,” Ilya said,
“What? It was nothing like that.”
“Sure, I was mister cool guy and you were like shy Yuuri.”
“Fuck you, no I wasnt.”
“Yeah you were.”
“No, fuck you.”
“Mmm, maybe after this episode. If you behave.” Shane just shakes his head and smirks as Ilya lays a lazy kiss on his arm. The russian was smirking to himself as they turned back to the screen.
The show jumps forward with a year time skip and Yuuri is arriving back home, Shane mumbles something about how staying away from home for five years was crazy.
There's another fourth wall break for Yuri to explain his extreme losing streak and both of the boys wince at the thought of their own sports seasons going so poorly. They weren't all too knowledgeable about how figure skating worked, even with Shane having a few friends who competed, but they understood the pain of a season cut short.
Then the show went on to explain how Victor had gone on to keep winning. Then it cut back to Yuri, being ridiculed of the weight he gained while not competing.
“A figure skater has to maintain a certain physique and that isn't it!” the woman character yelled. Neither Ilya nor Shane caught her name. Shane nodded along like he agreed; he had his own diet he stuck to.
Yuuri explained how his family had the last hot spring opened in the town and Ilya groaned at the mention of it.
“We should go to a hot spring,” He looked up to Shane who had a smile on his face, “A private one where we can have it all to ourselves.” He groaned again as Shane ran his fingers through the blonde curls, “would be so relaxing.”
Then they both laugh as it is revealed that the main reason the female character from before wanted Yuri to get to championships was so she could get the hot skaters room numbers.
The show cuts to Yuri at the town's ice rinks and the girl behind the counter lets him skate after hours.
Ilya loses his mind when they show a flashback of Yuri getting shoulder chucked by an older kid on the rink.
“That came out of nowhere!" he gasped out as he continued to laugh.
They show clips of Victor skating and winning even as he is younger, talking about how he had some of the highest scores in history.
“Yuri is such a little fanboy,” Ilya said as he played with Shane's hand, twisting his fingers between the others.
They watch as Yuri recreates Victor's routine, the show splicing in Victor himself into the sequence. Both of the boys oo and ah at the routine. They couldn't imagine having to do jumps and spins like that on the ice, especially with the gear they usually wear.
“How is he losing so much? He's great!” Ilya commented as they watched Yuri spin on one leg.
“Stage fright. I guess,” Shane shrugged. Ilya lets out a whistle in return, shaking his head.
“Hes got to get his head in the game.” Shane giggles at that .
They watch as Victor spins through the air with expertise. Both shoving popcorn into their mouths as they watch.
The performance ends and Yuri is told that he's welcome to come skate any time. Then they are shown the blonde Russian from before training to join the senior division. With Yuuri seeing that he makes a resolve to get back into skating and back into the competition.
Then it's cut to show that a video of Yuri recreating Victor's routine was uploaded to the web.
“That's good! Build some confidence! Get some fans!”
“Makes sense to do so, but it might be the crowd that freaks him out.”
“Crowd smowd.” Ilya huffs.
Yuuri's dad explains that the new dog on the property belonged to a new guest , “some good looking young fellow with an accent.” then Yuuri is running though the building to get where his dad said that the new guest was.
“Starting today I'm going to be your new coach!” Victor said as he stood up in the spring.
“Woah-” Shane said as he turned away.
“Didnt know they could show so much cheek on tv..” Ilya said as he gave a sly look to Shane. Then the outro song was playing and Ilya was leaning up to kiss his boyfriend, they could kill a few minutes before episodes.

They both lay on the couch out of breath with their clothes off and the tv paused on the start of the second episode when Shane's phone starts buzzing again.
Shane doesn't move to check it so Ilya does. It was Rose, she had given them time and a bit to watch the first episode and wanted to see what they thought.
