it feels manipulative and cheaty to make a new chapter just to bring attention that i updated the last chapter. however, with the long horrible hiatus i realized that if i dont bring attention to the update in a meaningful way then its likely that this fic will stay dead in the water. i’m only human, i like to write when i feel like my writing is liked and if my update received radio silence i dont know if i could really push myself to do more. Please note!!! i will delete this chapter once i finish the last chapter, its only here so AO3 will put this fic down as one that’s actively being worked on and not a discontinued fic from almost a year ago. expect the chapter to be finished and the new one started come april.
To make up for this, i will share some spark notes on what to expect
- every section of Kaon has an overseer, basically think like a boss in a videogame. it’s about time to start introducing them and their introduction is the biggest reason for this long hiatus i had all their names and looks drawn and explained, but when i lost my booklet i lost who they were. and they were so good i even had the code down for serial numbers and i fear that i will do everything wrong without it.
- don’t expect any one here to be a “good guy” i’m really trying to aim towards more morally ambiguous characters, every character even ratchet and bee are more than capable in this story to do something bad because they thought the ends would justify it.
- bee doesn’t have a friend in every section but you will meet a new minibot and get a little information on their ‘purpose’ or ‘use’ as we go through all 7 sectors
- and rest assured, i wouldn’t leave this work unfinished in the dark. if i ever gave up on it, i will release reference drawings i will (begrudgingly) remake and any info on the direction i intended the story to go so anyone who wants to can take over or reimagine or at the very least feel satisfied in knowing they aren’t on a infinite cliff hanger.
- i don’t know if there’s any confusion over this but i worry so much about bee being made out to be the “prettiest most important minibot in all the land” that’s not the case. i don’t want bee to be made out to be minibot jesus or anything. i want to let you know and i will dive into this more subtly in coming chapters (if i can) but bumblebee wasn’t popular because of his looks. he was semi popular before he left only because at the time he was a new model. he stayed popular because he left and made an impression on the minibots who believed there’s no hope and the bots who believed minibots literally incapable of enough freethink to escape on their own. people like what they cannot obtain and bee literally going against all beliefs and standards (again any minibot is capable of this which is the point, and no spoilers but bee wasn’t even the first mini to break free from oppressive standards) so bee is still all over Alpha so ppl know to look for him he is forced on every bots mind in the hope that when they visit and they leave they will recognize him in other sectors or places (unfortunately rarely anyone from iacon go to new kaon, which is why no one noticed him)
