Chapter Text
The next morning, Felix’s mother dropped by.
Marian Minogue was a sweet old lady, she was Felix’s biological mother and was supportive of his sexuality from the start. Felix had told her that it didn’t matter what gender his partner was, as long as he loved them. And Marian really seemed to stand by that, support his son’s preference.
And standing on his doorway now, with her hands full with a new tray of lasagna, the first thing Marian brought up was, of course, a partner.
‘’Felix love, you need to find someone to live with you. You can’t keep living like this, seeing your patients only. Haven’t you ever seen someone pretty? Someone handsome?’’ She was definitely teasing now.
‘Yes, I have,’ Felix’s mind betrayed him, thinking of the dream king, but he immediately shut it off.
‘’No, mom. I haven’t. And please, I don’t want to talk about this.’’ He complained, looking at the food in her hands. He couldn’t wait to dig in.
‘’Fine, whatever you say, my handsome boy.’’ She put down the lasagna on the kitchen table and put a hand to his cheek instead. ‘’All I’m saying is, you can’t spend forever alone, you know.’’
‘’Do I even have that much time?’’ Felix scoffed.
‘’Well, you never know.’’ His mother let go, looking around his apartment, scrunching her face in disappointment. ‘’Oh Felix, I know you’ve been busy but look at this place! Couldn’t you be bothered to clean up a little?’’
‘’I was thinking of getting to it, but…’’ He sighed. ‘’Work happened.’’
‘’Fine, I’ll clean it up myself.’’
‘’Mom, you really don’t have to…’’
Marian immediately paused when she saw Anubis lying down on the cat bed Felix bought for him.
‘’Aww, and who is this tiny fellow?’’ Marian immediately crouched to take Anubis into her arms, who looked quite confused by the whole thing, being picked up by his mother. His little feline eyes burned accusative holes through Felix’s skin, but the only thing Felix did was to look straight into the cat’s eyes calmly, and mouth, ‘This is what you get.’
Good thing Marian didn’t seem to notice, as she put the cat down, who stretched in relief.
Their next stop was Felix’s bedroom. The place was messy with psychiatric papers and cigarette butts scattered around and his blanket giving a desperate fight not to fall off his bed. The place reeked of cigarettes and men’s deodorant and it was dark inside. Marian’s only focus happened to be the cigarette butts, as she gasped.
‘’Felix! I told you to stop smoking this crap! It will ruin your lungs!’’ She immediately grabbed a trash bag from her bag and started collecting all the trash in the room.
‘’Seriously mom? A trash bag? Were you really planning to clean my apartment today?’’
‘’Of course! What else was I supposed to do?’’
‘’Mom, don’t touch my-’’ Felix exclaimed as Marian leaned in to take some of his crumpled up notes on her desk to put in her garbage bag, before her eyes caught the drawing of one dark silhouette- Morpheus.
Marian paused to inspect the drawing for a hot minute, as Felix held his breath.
Marian turned to Felix.
‘’Who is he?’’
‘’Just someone I saw in my dream…’’ Felix said that too nervously. Why did he say that so nervously?
Marian shot him that look which seemed to say, I call right through your bullshit, but she stayed silent.
The rest of the afternoon went as expected. Felix helped his mother clean up his apartment, and Anubis, the lord who feared nothing, ran terrified from the vacuum cleaner.
Soon, his mother mumbled something about the book club and left quickly. Felix was almost sure she would talk about him with her girlfriends at this supposed ‘book club’.
After Marian’s departure, Felix and Anubis were left alone.
‘’You shall never use that abomination of human technology in my sight, ever again.” The strangely deep voiced talking cat said.
“Can’t make promises,” sighed Felix.
…………………………………………….
His dream was just unassuming as the next one, again. He was in those endless green fields again, and he saw the dream king once more.
“My lord?”
Lord Morpheus did not turn his head until a few seconds passed and when he did, Felix realised how taller than him he was this time, and how his eyes carried galaxies within them.
“Oh- I am sorry my lord-” Felix stammered, making a move backwards, until he heard the voice of the ethereal entity.
“You have nothing to be sorry for, Felix Minogue.” Lord Morpheus said, his eyes shimmering and his voice echoing inside Felix’s mind. “Your mortal mind was simply shocked from withholding such an eldritch sight, it is to be expected.”
This assured Felix only a little bit. “Are you sure, sire, that I didn’t enrage you in any way? Even a little bit?”
This question, surprisingly, dragged out a slight chuckle from his lord.
“No, Felix Minogue. You will find that I am quite straightforward with my annoyances.”
King Morpheus gazed upon him as if he was an interesting, exotic bug. Felix felt as if he was being assessed gently. His eyes fell to Felix's hands, red and swollen from scratches and bites Anubis left, looking destroyed and somewhat pathetic. Felix looked at the king and noticed that his dark, endless eyes concentrated in deep thought.
“Is this the work of the feline I sent with you?” The rumbling, deep voice of his lord asked.
“Y-yes, my lord.”
The face of his lord concentrated in deep thought, before he broke the silence with his orders.
“I shall have a word with him. But with you, Felix Minogue, we have a lot to talk about.”
Felix sighed. This was going to be a long night.
