Chapter Text

Hearing the dial tone directly in his ear made Jungkook anxious. Namjoon and the others were still distracted in line so he took this opportunity to go somewhere relatively quiet but still in their sights. He looked at his friends chat away, silently waiting for the dial tone to turn into a voice. Park Jimin’s voice that is.

It was impulsive, he must admit, and not exactly what he wanted to convey. But it worked out in the end, or that’s what Jungkook wanted to believe. The wait felt excruciatingly long, as if time was suddenly moving very slowly. When Jimin finally picked up the phone, he went numb. Every bone in his body was vibrating with just the thought that Jimin picked up, that he had kept his word to answer the phone. Though, even with such adrenaline, Jungkook still was unable to speak. He was afraid he would end up saying something stupid.

He was so lost in his thoughts and his fear of embarrassment that he didn't realize he didn't even give a greeting to the male on the other side of the line. It wasn't until the male spoke that Jungkook realized this was actually happening.

“Jungkook? Are you there?” Jimin’s voice rang in Jungkook’s ears. Jimin's voice was something he could listen to all day, it was unexplainable. He couldn't tell you exactly why he loved Jimin's voice despite having heard it only a few times. Realizing he has been quiet for far too long, he finally stuttered out a response.

“Uh- yea.. Sorry I- I was kind of lost in thought for a second there… Uh-” When Jimin started softly giggling, Jungkook's entire being coiled into itself. His entire body burned with adoration, because really, how can someone be so cute through a phone call? Every fiber of his soul was aching to just drop everything and run to Jimin’s side for no reason at all. He wanted so badly to run to him to hug and cuddle him. He wanted to do gross couple things with him. Jungkook then remembered why he asked to call Jimin in the first place. He doesn’t know why he couldn’t just tell Jimin that he was out with friends he hadn’t been able to hang out with in a while through a text. He felt that he needed Jimin to know with sincerity that he wasn’t a burden to him.

He took a moment to inhale before speaking. “Listen, Jimin…” His mouth became dry as he opened his mouth to speak again. The apology never came out. He felt that it wasn’t necessary- not anymore.

Jungkook stood there trying to form words that would be alright in this situation. He wasn't sure what he wanted to say now, or why he initiated the call anyway. All he knew was that he had this strong urgency to just be able to hear Jimin's voice. “Um- I- Sorry I called you so late. I'm out with some friends right now so I hadn't seen your texts until now…”

There was a brief moment of silence before Jimin spoke. “Oh! Um no it's ok I figured you must have been busy since you didn't answer for a long time.. but you read the texts right?” Jungkook chuckled lightly. He could already feel the giant smile plastered on his face that only happens when Jimin is involved.

“Of course I did. And I'll go to your party thing, if it means I'll get to give you my present on your birthday.” The slightly-high pitched giggles that followed made his heart race and warmth pool into his body. He felt nothing but adoration and love at this moment in time and Jungkook wished that he could hear Jimin's laugh forever.

Jungkook honestly never imagined he would ever get to this point. Yea when he was younger, he always dreamed how he would fall in love with his soulmate and eventually form a family with them.

But he had given up on those hopes and dreams years ago. He had given them up when he impatiently searched for his other half only to come up with an empty hole in his heart in the end.

And then Jimin came along.

And the gaping hole in his heart started to become full. Jungkook never noticed he felt such loneliness until he met Jimin. It wasn't necessarily that he was lonely without Jimin because that wasn't it. He had his friends and family.

It was that loneliness he had slowly gotten over the years of longing for his soulmate. The frustration and sadness he felt when he just couldn't find the person he supposedly was made for. Now that he had a chance at everything he'd dreamed of, he wasn't sure if he could let it go so easily if his suspicions were wrong.

“So then how will this work? Do you still want to give me the present in private?” Jimin's voice broke him out of his chaotic thought as he remembered just what he was doing. “Because, I mean we could just open it at the party. Or gathering, it's not really a party honestly.” His voice was soothing and soft, traces of his tired state noticeable but he continued rambling on as Jungkook just listened. “I still want to give the present in private.” Jungkook spoke so softly he was afraid that Jimin didn't hear him.

There was silence on the other side of the line and Jungkook’s mind went into a frenzy. Had he said something wrong? Maybe Jimin didn't want to meet him in private and he was saying all this so he would agree to just going to the party and that's it.

He was about to retract his words and apologize when a soft whisper came through, almost like a gasp.

“Oh...”

Jungkook winced a bit at the thought that he had messed everything up. “I'm sorry just ignore that, I could just-”

Before he could finish his sentence, he was interrupted by Jimin, who sounded extremely frantic. The younger’s urgency had startled Jungkook a bit. “No! Uh- no no. Jungkook I didn't- I mean-”

A frustrated sigh escaped Jimin’s lips, and Jungkook felt guilty that he was the cause of it. He was still unable to say anything and just opted to stay silent, giving Jimin his full attention. “I meant… I kinda just thought that maybe… you'd prefer it if we- I just thought that you didn't really want to meet me again anymore?” Jungkook frowned at that, ready to interrupt Jimin and tell him that there was no way he could ever think that.

“I just… thought that you didn’t want to see some high school kid anymore..” Jimin mumbled softly from the other side of the line. Jungkook mentally scoffed because he really didn’t care about that. “Jimin, I really don’t care if you’re a highschool kid. You’re almost 18, it’s your last year of highschool anyway. If you were like way younger I think then it might have been a problem but you’re almost an adult.” Jungkook did think about this, he worried what other people would say. In the end, after he thought about it for countless nights and a talk with his friends, he came to the conclusion that it was fine. It may not be ideal to society, but really there was only a 2 year difference between the two. Jin and Namjoon had the same age difference and they were happy.

He came to the conclusion that he didn’t really care because if Jimin really did turn out to be his soulmate, then society really couldn’t say anything. Why would you if soulmates were supposed to be made for each other?

Jimin was silent as Jungkook continued to talk, his heart racing in his chest as he anticipated what he would say. "And Jimin, you are an amazing friend. You are smart and caring. I would even say maybe a bit too kind and patient for this world, but that's just me. I wouldn't just leave you because you're 'some high school kid' because in reality, that's not what you are to me. I truly mean that Jimin." When Jungkook finished his small rant Jimin was left baffled and with tears brimming in his eyes. He couldn't even think of what to say after Jungkook had poured his feelings out like that- and he knew how Jungkook struggled a bit to voice his feelings aloud.

"Ah... sorry I probably rambled there... Sorry if I made you uncomfortable or anything..." Jimin quickly gathered up his thoughts before he just continued to stare blankly at the wall and say nothing. "Jungkook... thank you. It didn't make me feel uncomfortable at all, really. Just- thank you. For everything." Jungkook could just imagine Jimin smiling softly and he himself felt the smile form on his own lips.

It was silent for a few moments as neither said anything, but it was a pleasant and relaxed silence, one that made them both feel safe and content. The silence was finally broken by Jimin, and Jungkook was then reminded of how late it actually was. "It's getting late Jungkook. Try not to get home too late and rest up properly okay?"

"Yea, okay."

"...I guess I'll see you tomorrow?" Jungkook's heart did somersaults, hope filling his body up.

"Of course, definitely. I'll text you tomorrow yea?"

Jimin stifled a yawn and Jungkook knew he undoubtedly visibly softened at it. Jimin was just too much for his heart. "Okay... Goodnight Kookie." Jungkook had to hold back a squeal, choking out a small "goodnight" before Jimin hung up.

October 13. That's the day it was when Jimin opened his eyes that morning. He really couldn't believe he was actually 18 now, that he was now somewhat an adult.

Jimin had some trouble sleeping before Jungkook had called last night and calmed him and his worries. Now, thinking back on it, the realization that he would be seeing Jungkook in person again later made his stomach twist and turn.

The emotions he was feeling were overwhelming him a bit, but the most powerful feelings he had was nervousness and excitement. Both prevailing around Jungkook and his birthday. Jimin, to say the least, was absolutely nervous about meeting Jungkook today. He knew that his hopes of Jungkook being his soulmate were high, but they had touched briefly many times the days they did meet even just a little– and nothing ever came. Jimin came to the conclusion that today would be the day that would make or break his heart.

He had a little voice in the back of his head that told him to wait until his birthday. Honestly speaking, Jimin would be crushed if Jungkook wasn't his soulmate, but he would still want to be there as his friend. Jimin's feelings for the boy grew stronger by the minute and his hopes becoming larger and larger.

Maybe even just a little deep inside his heart, he might even admit that he fell hard for Jungkook and it wasn't just a little crush, but that was just for his own thoughts.

His day progressed rather slow, with spending time with his family and Taehyung coming over to help prepare the food they would be eating later. It was during this time that he had heard the little ping of his phone go off. Jimin scrambled for his phone and sure enough, it was a message from Jungkook.

Jungkookie ₍՞◌′ᵕ‵ू◌₎♡: hey jimin?

are you free right now?

Jimin: jungkookie! yes I am (๑˃̵ᴗ˂̵) why? are we going to meet now, finally?

Jungkookie ₍՞◌′ᵕ‵ू◌₎♡: if you're still okay with it then yea

i kinda rather say happy birthday and give you you're present to your face

Jimin: ofc I'm okay with it!!

the park we met at last time??

Jungkookie ₍՞◌′ᵕ‵ू◌₎♡: yea (๑・̑◡・̑๑) I’ll see you there?

Jimin: I'll see you there jungkookie

The inhumane sounds he was probably letting out attracted the attention of Taehyung, who came in with a knowing smile. “You're leaving now?” Jimin nodded his head in affirmation before he began the nerves eating him alive again.

“Oh god Tae I'm so nervous. What do I do? What do I say? What if he-” Taehyung snickered before patting Jimin's back. “You'll be fine Chim. If anything happens I'll beat his ass.” He aimed his goofy smile at Jimin and the tension in Jimin immediately started to fade away

“...Yea...Thanks Tae.” Jimin smiled softly at his best friend before quickly enveloping him in a hug that could convey his feelings of gratitude better than words could. They stayed that way for a few minutes before Taehyung returned to helping in the kitchen and Jimin went to his room to look for a jacket.

Soon, Jimin found himself walking outside in the chilly autumn weather. Each step towards the park was a step closer to his possible fate. Each step forward had made Jimin more nervous than the one before.

He spotted Jungkook before Jungkook saw him. Jimin stood there looking at his profile from afar and admiring his stature. He would never get over the beauty that was Jungkook. His broad chest and back, his shiny hair that was probably soft to the touch, his adorably big and cute nose, his waist, just everything about Jungkook Jimin... loved. When Jungkook finally saw him, Jimin thinks he fell even more in love at that moment, when Jungkook flashed his wide bunny tooth smile.

And it scared him. Jimin wasn't ready for what would follow, or for what the universe would hold in his future.

"Hey, you made it." Jungkook had approached him slowly, light pink dusting his cheeks and a shy smile adorning his face. "Y-yea of course I did. I promised after all." Jungkook laughed softly and held out the hand that Jimin hadn't noticed was hiding behind his back the entire time. "Your gift... It's not much but- I just hope you like it..." He sounded so unsure of himself that Jimin just wanted to hug and kiss him forever and never let him go.

He eyed the gift in the other's hands, noticing it was a bit bulky and big. "Don't worry about it, I once got a card from Tae on my birthday that said 'Happy Birthday! You still owe me 5 dollars so I didn't get you a gift.' so I think I'll love whatever you give me, Jungkook."

Jungkook started laughing, and Jimin didn't miss the little crinkle his nose does when he smiles and laughs, making Jimin smile widely at being able to make Jungkook happy.

When his laughter died off, Jungkook held out the gift again, and Jimin naturally reached out to take it, not wanting to make the situation awkward or make him hold his hand out for too long.

That's when their hands touched for the first time that day. The first time they touched at all since they met today.

And all Jimin saw was a burst of brightness before he closed his eyes tightly, not wanting it to be a trick of his mind.

When he opened his eyes again, he saw Jungkook staring at him with his endearing big eyes, and he finally noticed. He noticed that everything wasn't just black and white. Jungkook's eyes weren't completely black. The trees, grass, buildings, everything was different. Jimin couldn't believe his eyes.

"This-" Jimin frantically looked over to Jungkook to make sure that he was seeing this too- that he wasn't imagining things. That Jungkook really was his soulmate. Jungkook's eyes widened even more, looking at Jimin with such hope. "You see it too?"

"Yes! I do see it. Is this... color? Jungkook- you're my soulmate?" The nod that confirmed his question caused a surge of happiness to burst withing him. But then, Jimin was brought back to that day in the park, where he had his first encounter with Jungkook. 'Do you see it too?' Jimin looked at the boy in front of him sadly. "The day we met, at the park, you said the same thing... I'm sorry.. I probably made you really confused and hurt..."

Jimin suddenly felt arms pull him into a tight hug, and his heart sighed in content. "All that matters now is that this is real. That you're here right now, and that you know now. God, I'm so happy right now." Jungkook pulled away a bit in order to be able to look Jimin in the eye. There was a light pink tinge to his face and his eyes held such emotion Jimin almost became overwhelmed.

"I like you a lot Jimin. I have liked you for a while now.. just I never said anything because, well you know the whole soulmates thing... I was afraid and insecure, and doubting myself because of that day in the park." Jimin's heart broke a little at his words, angry at his past self for making his soulmate feel this way. "But I started thinking more, and thought that there had to be a reason, so I waited for you. And it worked out in the end." Jungkook smiled softly at him, looking at him with so much adoration.

"I like you a lot too Jungkook." Jimin had said it so softly but Jungkook heard it- and he just smiled impossibly wider than before. "Will you be my boyfriend?" Jimin's soft giggles filled the air, the atmosphere surrounding them was happy and warm, in their own world by now.

"I'll be your anything Jungkook, you're stuck with me forever now you know?" Jimin's crescent eyes appeared, Jungkook looking at his, now, boyfriend- and soulmate. "I wouldn't change that for anything. I want to spend my forever with you by my side."

Neither was really sure who leaned in first, but it didn't matter. They didn't care about that, this moment too precious and special to them to even think about anything else. Their happiness could be evident to anyone who glanced at them passing by.

Their kiss was soft and slow, and inexperienced. Jimin entangling his hands in Jungkook's hair, which was soft to the touch just as he thought, and Jungkook wrapping his arms around Jimin's waist. But it was their perfect first kiss, right there at a small park on a chilly autumn day.

When they broke apart, Jimin smiled shyly at Jungkook before he threw himself into the arms of his boyfriend, seeking the warmth and love he knew he would always be for him.

Jimin decided that this was quite possibly the best day of his life.

And Jungkook did too.

"Oh I never even opened your present, what is it anyway?"

"...It's a chick plushie. it reminded me of you so I got it.. I hope you like it"

"Dummy, I already love it."

I love you.

Notes:

The End (finally TT)

I'm really sorry it's such a rushed ending but I couldn't just let my motivation die and never post an ending TT please don't hate me.

Thank you to everyone who stuck with this fic till the end, I truly appreciate it, from the bottom of my heart.
This is my first jikook fic, and it will always be my baby. It might not be good, but I worked hard on it and it's my first complete fic. And that's something I will always be proud of.

I love you all so much, thank you for all the kudos TT at this time I don't think I'll write an epilogue, or if anyone even wants one. But I want to focus on another idea I had for a jikook fic (the greatest showman AU because I fell in love with the idea so maybe look forward to it?)

Again, Thank you so much for all the love and support and 'till next time!

Notes:

I forgot to add hyung in there but idk if I should
Eh I'll probably add it in later when I'm editing.
Anyways hope you enjoyed and sorry for the mistakes!
