Chapter Text
Joshua stayed silent until he noticed that Soonyoungs glare had landed on him “Ah, yeah, we have spoken a few times...I would have never guessed he was...like you guys.” Joshua nodded as he ripped his eyes off his friend.
Soonyoung looked between the three, seemingly not completely satisfied with the answer but shrugged anyway.”Well, now you know. And at least we have someone that can watch you at school now” the shorter man said and leaned back into the worn couch.
“I really don't think that's necessary” Jeonghan argued, though he flinched when the leader shot him a glance, silently ordering him back into submission.
The leader spoke up again leaning back into his seat “Well. Now that we are all here, we can discuss what we are going to do now that a human knows of the coven.” He waited for anyone to speak up, though most people in the room seemed tense and unmoving.
Eventually, the previously cheerful Seokmin spoke up, his smile easing Joshua slightly “I mean it’s not that terrible. From how Jun and Minghao spoke of him he seems trustworthy. And if Jeonghan’s with him there isn’t much of a threat.”
Joshua wasn’t really sure how he could be a threat in any situation. He wasn’t about to try and fight them off stakes and crossbow at the ready like van helsing, and running around telling his friends and family he was attacked by a vampire would only get him put in a mental facility. As much as he talks big to Jeonghan, Josh isn’t an idiot, he knows when he’s stuck.
The shorter leader stared at the cheery man in shock. He clearly expected him to be on his side in the matter and was closed off by his open mindedness.
Seemingly unaffected by the shorter man’s mood, Minghao spoke up “this could be good for the clan. The last coven me and Jun were in had humans working with it for blood, and with the slayers lurking around it might be just what we need to get the edge on them”
His brown haired friend nodded, “he's right, the truth of the matter is it’s just not safe to be hunting right now.”
The leader looked between the three as though they had offended him. He sighed and rubbed the bridge of his nose. “And what of you, Jihoon? Do you agree?” He asked.
Josh locked eyes with the shorter man as he spoke “like I said I know him from school, he’s smart. Keeping him around can only be beneficial in the long run.”
Defeated, the leader nodded his head “it's decided then. Welcome to the coven Josh” Soonyoung said as the whole coven turned to look at him. Fuck, he really was screwed. “Well now that we have dealt with our pet human,on to the other matter at hand” he said and looked to the blond sitting next to Josh “the attack on Jeonghan only confirmed our fears, there is a slayer in town.”
The room went silent. Eyes flicked amongst the coven members, it was obvious how serious they all took this remark. “Were you able to get a look at his face?” The leader asked Jeonghan.
The blond shook his head “not one worth anything. It seemed like a man, tall, wearing all black-”
Soonyoung cut him off “he got close enough to nearly gut you and you didn’t see his face?” The man scoffed and shook his head.
Jeonghan’s face twisted into a sneer but he kept his cool. “If you let me finish, he was wearing a mask.”
Soonyoung sighed but nodded, not bothering to apologize to the weaker vampire. “We will need to take as many precautions as we can. From now on, no one travels alone. They need to at least have one other vampire ...or trusted human I suppose, with them at all times.” he said glancing at Joshua.
Jihoon spoke up, taking on a lead roll of his own “Most importantly, if you think you’re being followed, do not return to base. Last thing we need is them to know where we all live.”
The leader nodded. “If that’s all, this meeting is over.” The orange haired vampire stood again, his movements freezing Josh where he sat. He walked over to stand in front of Joshua and Jeonghan, looking down at the submissive pair. “If you slip up even once, I’ll make sure you won’t ever again,” he said in a soft and threatening tone, his fangs glistening as he turned his sneer on Josh.
Joshua nodded, he tried to speak but his throat had closed up. He watched the creature walk past him and out of the room. Once he was gone, the whole room felt lighter. Josh was finally able to let go of the breath he was holding.
Seokmin offered the petrified human a smile and reached over to pat his shoulder. “Try not to worry too much about him. It just takes him a while to warm up to people.”
The bright vampires grin helped Josh calm down some. He nodded and chuckled awkwardly “hopefully it doesn’t take him too long, I don’t think my heart can take too many encounters like that.”
The black haired man grabbed Joshua’s hand and gave it a gentle squeeze “ah don’t worry, the rest of the clan wouldn’t let him just attack you. If Jeonghan is willing to stand by you, we will too.”
Next to Joshua the blond vampire seethed at the sight of their overlapping hands, though he stayed quiet.
Joshua beamed at the friendly man, soaking in all the kind attention. It was helping Joshua forget how terrified he was only moments before.
Jihoon cleared his throat “it’s getting late, you two should get back to Joshua’s place” he said and walked towards the door “I’ll walk you out.”
“Fine by me” Jeonghan mumbled. He seemed more than ready to leave, quickly catching up with the smaller man.
As Josh stood, Seokmin stopped the human “let me see your phone. I’ll put my number in it, in case you need help with Jeonghan” he said flashing another toothy smile.
Josh handed the cheery man his phone, thanking him once he gave it back. “Keep your phone on you, I don’t know when I might need help next” Josh joked as he slid his phone in his pocket.
Behind him Jeonghan groaned. “Come on, Joshuji. I want to go lay down” he whined.
Joshua rolled his eyes and said his goodbyes to the group, returning to the blonds side as they walked out. Once at the front door, jihoon spoke up “Jeonghan, go get your car, I want a moment to talk to Josh.”
Before the other man had a chance to leave Joshua stopped him. “Wait. You have a car?”
The blond shrugged and smirked at the man. “Surprise.” he said as he walked slightly down the street to a black car.
Joshua sighed before turning his attention to “do they know-“
“No...they don’t know about Seungcheol.” Jihoon said, cutting him off in a hushed voice. Joshua was about to ask another question when jihoon spoke again. “Yes he knows about me, and the coven, or knows of its existence at least.”
Joshua shook his head slowly, rubbing his face with his hands. He felt lied to. Sure, he never asked, but at the same time he trusted Seungcheol. When he met Jihoon, they were still dating. Isn’t that something you tell your boyfriend? Unless he never had a choice. Joshua’s face went dark as he spoke “Jihoon, we should talk more later, but right now you need to be straight with me.”
Jihoon nodded, carefully watching the human in front of him “Of course.”
“Did you EVER use your glamour on Seungcheol?” He asked sternly. He couldn’t feel any fear caused by Jihoon at this moment. Vampire or not, if he did anything to harm Seungcheol he would gladly give the coven a reason to fear humans.
Jihoon looked at Josh sadly “no...well once, I know how this looks but please trust me. I can’t get into this right now, come to Seungcheols tomorrow. We can sort through all this in private.”
The taller man nodded and started to walk towards Jeonghan’s car, only stopping when Jihoon spoke behind him.
“Don’t tell Jeonghan. I’ll be introducing Seungcheol to the clan soon. I just need to wait for soonyoung to calm down” his eyes pleading the human to cooperate.
Josh turned to look back at Jihoon, he had known the man for over a year now, and yet he looked like a complete stranger in front of him. Josh slowly shook his head “I’ll be over for noon tomorrow” he replied back, not bothering to stop again, slipping into Jeonghan’s car.
—
The drive home was silent, Joshua not having the energy to converse with the blond. Though surprisingly Jeonghan seemed to understand, remaining quiet himself. Joshua didn’t speak again until they were back in his room.
“We need to talk” the human said softly as he draped his jacket over the back of his chair.
Jeonghan winced and nodded, discarding his own jacket. “I figured. Ask anything you want to know. You might as well know everything now.”
Josh turned his chair around as the shorter man sat on the bed adjacent to it. Once seated in the chair Joshua took a moment to observe the other man, as much as he hated to admit it, he was starting to form an attachment to him. He didn’t lie to him like Jihoon and Seungcheol, he didn’t threaten him like Soonyoung and Minghao. Sure Seokmin and Jun were kind to Joshua, but there was no way to really know their intentions, though genuine they seemed. He wished he could go to Vernon with all this. Although his advice might not always be the best, he had a way of calming Josh like none other, but it would be selfish to drag him into this mess.
No. As much as josh hated to admit it, Jeonghan was all he had, so he had to make it work. “so...were you planning to forcefully feed from me?” He questioned, figuring it was best to get his main question out of the way.
The vampire shook his head “not force, though I am willing to strike a deal with you” he offered, peaking the humans interest. “With the slayer around I would rather not be running off with different humans. Keep my fangs out of others necks and a stake not in my chest.”
Joshua thought a moment, it would be cruel to send the vampire out, and at least he’s being honest with him. The least he could do is hear him out. “I’m listening, but it better be good” the human said, loosely crossing his arms.
Jeonghan nodded “well no matter what we are stuck together, so don’t forget that.” The vampire pointed out before offering his proposition “every time you let me feed from you, I’ll owe you one favour, anything you need…within reason” he said.
Josh pursed his lips, the thought of having a vampire servant was tempting, like having his own Sebastian. Was it really worth his blood? Yeah probably, but he might as well try and sweeten the deal. “Okay. But only if you also drive me around whenever I want.”
Jeonghan narrowed his eyes “help cover gas and you have a deal,” he said, offering his hand to shake.
Joshua nodded and grabbed his hand “deal.” he might have just made a deal with the devil, but hey! It beats taking the bus. “Speaking of rides, you need to go somewhere with me tomorrow.”
The blond raised a brow “wow I haven’t even gotten to feed from you again yet.”
“Consider it payment for the first time” Josh rolled his eyes, standing to get changed.
“Fine. Where are we going anyways? Need to get groceries?” He asked in a teasing voice, must be nice not having to buy food. “Maybe some eggs to replace Vernon’s fuck up?”
Josh shook his head “Nah thats Vernon’s job, we’re going to my ex’s house. He’s going to tell my why he left me for Jihoon” When the human turned to see Jeonghan, he found him slack jawed “and if I find out he glamoured my boyfriend I’ll slit his throat” he said bluntly, whether it was a threat or not the human didn't know yet. But he did know he had the blondes attention.
