Chapter Text
after waiting for so long it was finally happening. they were finally moving in together.
it took an awful lot of work and time to save enough to get a place, but somehow even with all the hardships and obstacles they made it here. made it to the small house — currently filled with boxes — that they'd call theirs.
it took time and effort to put everything together, but they both were too glad to be with each other to even think about complaning. they painted all the walls with the colors they wanted to, even if the paint smelled disgusting and it dripped everywhere. their heart filled with warmth everytime they looked at their green feature wall on their room, something that reminded them this was their own little place in the world.
even though the house was a mess and sometimes namjoon got overwhelmed, jeongguk was there to calm him down. to sit with him and make namjoon rest his head on his chest while petting his boyfriend's hair. his warm words kept him comfortable, and it was a good rest for jeongguk too.
sitting there for a second in silence, letting the bright sunlight shine on them through the partially open windows. the living room was still a mess but they had already set the sofa. for the time being the television was on the floor. the tv stand still had to be built.
it was indeed overwhelming, but it was also a blank page for a new start. it was as overwhelming and difficult. but it was also a new perspective, a new hope.
jeongguk also got anxious sometimes. he was scared things wouldn't work out. scared about things from work, to family, to not being able to make a good enough meal to eat and die from starvation. but namjoon was the best person in the world to reassure him everything would be alright.
his soft touches, his reassuring voice when he told him none of these bad things would happen, even if they did they'd deal with it and it'd be over. he wasn't alone anymore.
jeongguk kept namjoon safe and namjoon kept jeongguk grounded. they would always look out for each other.

every little thing on their routine had became something special. waking up with a kiss to the cheek to brushing their teeth together. making a mess of the kitchen while making a meal, and sudden urges that caused them to start making random sweets late at night.
from throwing flour on each other to fucking on the counter tops they were living the dream to their fullest. sometimes that was jeongguk playing games while namjoon straddled him. others it was watching a tv show together until namjoon fell asleep.
before they realized, they already owned the house. every object and room was tied to a memory, to a smile or a kiss. to an emotional cry whether it was from sadness or love, it was an experience. it was a necessary process. sometimes for themselves to grow and evolve, sometimes for their relationship. for them to get even closer and continue to learn about each other.
most things were already where they were supposed to be and they had settled in just fine. only a few boxes that they wouldn't use stashed away they both agreed they could use a bit more company.
that's how they found themselves inbetween so many cats waiting to be adopted. it was one of the hardest decisions of their life, they were all too adorable, namjoon was about to get at least five on one go. it broke their heart they couldn't, at least not yet. the sole reason they were starting with a cat was because they were easier. no walking them everyday, they took their own baths and either slept or whined all day. they only needed to feed and clean after them. they could do that.
after a while they settled on one that made both their heart beat faster. she was grey with bright yellow eyes. at first they thought she was a british shorthair, but they were told she was stray. both namjoon and jeongguk searched each others eyes when they saw the adorable cat meowing at them and trying to get pets inside the cage. they cooed at her and that was it, love at first sight.
"lucifer? are we really gonna name our cat lucifer?" namjoon laughed, not opposed to the idea but surprised.
"yes it's gonna be lucifer. look at her eyes, she's my little sun!" jeongguk squeezed the cat's cheeks and she just stood there looking adorable. jeongguk wanted to cry from love.
"ok then, but if my parents come over her name's gonna be star." jeongguk laughed at how hard namjoon still tried to be the model son. it was cute how much he cared about his family.
it took about a week for lucifer to get settled into her new house. she often hid, making namjoon and jeongguk spend days worrying about losing their first pet right after adopting. but it didn't take long until she built up trust, snuggling in bed with them to sleep and asking for pets at any given opportunity. they could tell she loved them as much as they did.
time went by quickly, spring turned into summer as the air grew hotter and the sun became merciless. fans all over the house although they never seemed to cool the rooms down enough.
they were very fond of it, though. in the mornings the sunlight would bathe the kitchen and namjoon would wake up first to enjoy the silence and the room being lit by the golden light. he prepared the breakfast, already listening to the sound of the bathroom door. jeongguk would come over soon.
both of them weren't very talkative in the morning, preferring a kiss on the cheek accompanied by a low 'good morning'. they'd eat breakfast in silence, sometimes planning the days in silence, others staring at each other and smiling.
not long after, lucifer would rise too. after her own breakfast she'd rub herself on their legs, purring loudly in happiness. they both chuckled at the adorable cat, reaching to pet her.
they found out living together was as amazing as they always thought it would be. from uncontrollably laughing together to cuddling in bed when they were far sad for anything else.
feeling safety in each other's arms without the sadness of knowing they'd have to be apart soon. they wouldn't be away anymore, because they were finally home.
