Chapter Text

(Note: Based on Legend of Thunder Boy

The rest of the wedding was a blur, neither of the two knew how long weddings actually took. As soon as they were finished exchanging their vows and promising a healthy life with each other, the chief congratulated them as mates. Cheers could be heard from every part of the room as the chief covers the newlyweds with a fur blanket. Taehyung never stopped smiling as he finally shares a kiss with the younger as official mates.

Later that night, the newlyweds fall onto their bed. High on adrenaline as they rip clothing off of each other, roam their hands and touch every inch of skin, the soft gentle kisses becoming rough and needy. Pausing when lips are just barely touching and breathing each other's air.

“Mine,” Jungkook growled, grasping Taehyung’s chin and tilting it up. “All mine,” He leaned in to brush his lips against the olders’ exposed neck, sucking slightly.

“All yours,” Taehyung whimpered, arching his back when he felt the younger’s canines gently brush across his sensitive skin. “Mark me,” Taehyung demands, and Jungkook is far too weak for him to deny his dear mate right now.

“So needy,” Jungkook murmured, letting his breath tickle Taehyung’s ears, tugging at it. He moves back to Taehyung’s collarbone, he kisses gently before finally sinking his canines into the pretty, smooth skin. “I’ll make you feel good tonight,” Jungkook’s low, husky voice had sent Taehyung’s Omega go into a frenzy.

Jungkook roughly pushes Taehyung deeper into the bed, mouths along his jawline and then finally kisses his pretty lips. He slides his free hand down Taehyung’s thigh and carefully sticks one finger into Taehyung’s pretty, needy hole. “You sound so beautiful,” Taehyung sunk his nails deeply across the younger’s bare back as he moans. Once Jungkook knew his mate was ready, he stuck another finger in and widened his hole.

“So beautiful,” Jungkook soothed the older, caressing his cheeks when tears fell.

“I’m ready,” Taehyung breathed after a while.

“Okay, baby.” Jungkook carefully removed his fingers- Taehyung whining at the loss, and he quickly positioned himself between Taehyung’s sun-kissed thighs. “You’re so beautiful,” Jungkook slowly pushed his cock into Taehyung. “Fuck,” Jungkook groaned. Once he was all the way in, they lay there. Breathless. “I’ll move now,” Jungkook kissed the older.

Jungkook slowly finds his pace as he lets his hands roam Taehyung’s chest, feeling the older’s heartbeat under his palm. “My love,” Jungkook cries, suddenly feeling emotionally grateful to have such a beautiful mate.

“I love you,” Taehyung chokes out, arching his back when Jungkook is hitting his prostate just right.

Compliments and muttered curses were heard in the hut. Taehyung came dry just as Jungkook pulled him down on his cock one last time, stretching his entrance impossibly wide as his knot popped in one last time. Jungkook moaned loud with his release letting Taehyung fall boneless, onto his chest. He wrapped his arms tightly around his body as he shook with his orgasm. “Taehyung,” he gasped.

“I love you.”

“I love you more.”

A year later, when spring had just arrived, Jungkook and Taehyung were making their way towards the medicine man’s hut. They have a few concerns that’s desperately needing answers to.

They have been trying for a baby for months now. Despite many failed pregnancies, Taehyung still had hope. He believed that his time would come, he just had to wait. He knew the creator was waiting for the perfect moment to bless him with his own child. Whenever that would be.

“I’m alright,” was all Taehyung would say to Jungkook, who sat with him on their bedroom floor. Jungkook would say nothing, afraid to make a sound, the only thing he could do right now is to hold his mate. “I’m really fine,” Taehyung repeated, trying to hide his tears in his hands.

“Shh, I know,” Jungkook choked back a sob, wanting to be strong for this Omega. He felt Taehyung fully relax into his hold and cried into the younger’s chest. “I know.”

“I’m fine,” Taehyung had tried convincing the alpha, but now the only person he’s trying to convince, was himself.

One night in the fall, when Taehyung knew for certain that the younger was asleep, he walked out of their hut. He was tired of feeling like he couldn’t breathe, so he dragged himself towards the lake to catch his breath. He sat on a log a bit further away from their special tree and stared at the calm water, throwing small pebbles to watch the ripples ruin the perfect reflection of the moon. It's been quite a while since their marriage and they still couldn’t have a child. It was beginning to tug at Taehyung’s heart strings. The thought of never having his own little pup running around on their lazy Sundays, never to comfort their little one after a terrifying nightmare, never to hear their little one laugh with them, never to witness their little one discovering the wonders of the world, it brought tears to his eyes as he struggles to breathe.

Taehyung’s vision blurred as he looked up at the starry night sky, feeling his heart break for the millionth time since they began trying. Despite all of those stars looking down at him, he has never felt so lonely.

“Please,” Taehyung whispered, not daring to make any sudden movements. “Please, creator,” he begged, he felt his tears fall faster than raindrops during a rain storm on a hot summer day. “ Please, ” he sobbed, falling onto his knees. Pounding his fists onto the ground, then pulling the grass off as he shouts into the lonely night sky.

Hiding behind a tree - trying so hard to choke back his own heartache - stood Jungkook. His legs suddenly feeling like jelly, he slowly lets himself fall backwards onto his butt and he hugs his legs for emotional support as he continues to listen to his mate cry his heart out, begging the creator for a chance.

It has been a few days since finding out that Taehyung had failed to get pregnant once again and now they’ve decided to seek answers.

Jungkook leads the older into the medicine man’s hut. The man greets them cheerfully but soon notices the obvious distress on both of their faces.

“What may I help you with?” The man questions, gesturing them to sit down.

“We are having trouble, Medicine man,” Jungkook starts, noticing that Taehyung’s still hasn’t said a single word. “We got married a year ago and we have been trying to have children since then,” He explains, watching the medicine man’s expression change. “We wanted to know if you could help us, or tell us what to do.”

“Hm,” The man rested his chin on his palm, deep in thought.

“Please,” Jungkook begged, desperate clear in his eyes.

“I may have to run tests on your mate,” He spoke after painfully long pause. “I’ll have results back as soon as we get started.”

“Yes, thank you.” Jungkook helped Taehyung onto his feet and they’re following the medicine man into another slightly smaller hut.

After a couple of hours, the couple are back sitting in front of the man.

They sat in silence, listening to the noise from other people passing by the hut. None of them knew how to start the conversation, but Jungkook was getting restless.

“Well, what do we do?” Jungkook breaks the silence. He raises an eyebrow when he notices the man shift uncomfortably. He gives another look, as if to say ‘ We don’t have all day.’

“Well, you see,” The man starts, suddenly sounding awfully regretful. “This is extremely rare to happen in Omega’s-“

“Get to the point.” Taehyung speaks for the first time since getting here. Jungkook reacts quickly and grabs onto the olders hand.

Another long pause, the medicine man looks right into Taehyung’s eyes with nothing but empathy. “I’m sorry to break your spirits, but you can’t get pregnant. Never will.”

“Why not?” Jungkook deadpans, tightening his grip on Taehyung’s numb hand.

“He has a rare disease that can’t be treated with our type of medication.” The man explains, ready to show the results to the couple. “This type of disease might run in the family because i’ve heard a few cases from the Kim family. It doesn’t happen every time, It skips a few generations, but it looks like Taehyung wasn’t very lucky. I apologize if this surprises you.”

“So,” Jungkook leans in, a nasty look on his face. “We can’t have children? ever?”

“I’m afraid so,” The man frowns, noticing how Taehyung didn’t react at all.

Jungkook and the medicine man get into a heated argument as Taehyung sits there. Emotionless.

The small hope Taehyung had been holding onto with everything he’s got vanished from his heart, never to be filled with false hope ever again.

Three weeks go by and the couple are still taking the news pretty hard. Jungkook had gotten quieter than usual and spent more time outside, fixing up his weapons and trapping rabbits near the lake- anything to keep his mind off the unfortunate situation they’re in.

Taehyung, however, spent a lot of time alone in their hut. He didn’t really do anything. He woke up when it was time, He ate when it was time to eat, He did his own chores when it was time to get them done, He slept when the day was finally over. Other than that, he did nothing. He sat in front of the small window and watched his mate distract himself. Taehyung wishes he could do that, to forget. Even if it was for a few hours.

“Tae?” Jungkook shook the older. He had caught a few rabbits earlier and he wanted to know if Taehyung was hungry. When he got no response, he tried again. “Tae? Can you hear me?”

Jungkook frowned, he was worried. Worried if they would continue to live like this. Distant.

“Tae, we’re running out of food.” Jungkook said quietly, putting his hand on Taehyung’s shoulder- almost afraid to touch his own mate. “We need to hunt.”

“You go,” Taehyung’s voice raspy from not speaking for weeks. “I’ll stay.”

“Are you sure?” Jungkook asks, squeezing the olders’ shoulder. “I sorta don’t want to leave you all alone here.” He watches closely as Taehyung closes his eyes and takes a sharp breath in. “I don’t know if you noticed, but I've been looking after you. Making sure that you’re alive-“

“Am I, though?” Taehyung turns to face the younger, his voice cracking. Jungkook almost backs away because this was the first time Taehyung had looked at him in the eye since the visit. It feels foreign, it was as if a stranger was sitting in front of him. “I don’t feel alive as I did before. It hurts to breathe, it hurts to eat, it hurts to wake up and go about my life, it hurts to even look at you.” Taehyung stands up. “So I don’t know if you know that I’m really not okay because you’re out there,” He points accusingly at Jungkook. “Trying so hard to ignore me. You’re trying so hard to push this away because you can’t handle it.” He steps forward and roughly pushes the younger, he backs him up towards the door.

“Taehyung..” Jungkook tries to stop the older from going into a meltdown, dodging a few punches. “Breathe..”

“You’re just trying to avoid the pain of never having a child!” Taehyung screams loud enough for the whole village to hear once they’re outside. “Of never being a father! by avoiding me!”

“You really think i’m not as upset as you?!” Jungkook snaps.

“Like hell you are,” Taehyung spits, pushing the younger around. Anger. All he felt was anger, he spent so much time guilting himself that he’s tired of sitting around, waiting for death to end his self-loathing. He needed to break something, he needed to feel something. He was tired.

“I am just as heartbroken as you are. Maybe even more,” Taehyung laughs. “I am the Alpha. I’m supposed to take care of you, keep you safe, provide food and shelter. You are so precious to me and I want to give you the whole wide world- Hell, even all of the fucking stars! because you deserve everything, Jeon Taehyung,” Jungkook shouts back, startling the older. He catches his breath, he knows that he was getting worked up but he can’t stop now. “I tried so hard to give you a child, you don’t even know how much I’ve cried with you when we’ve failed so many times. I’m trying so hard to carry your pain so you could have some time to have a break from carrying it yourself.”

Jungkook feels his warm tears fall from his eyes and onto his cheeks but he doesn’t wipe them away. No more avoiding he thinks. “I would give you anything and everything, the world? the stars? it’s yours. The only thing I can’t give you- the only fucking thing- is a child.”

Jungkook feels arms wrap around his body, just as he loses his footing and almost falls forward. He hears muffled sobbing as he tries to regain his focus. Slowly he found himself gripping so tightly onto Taehyung’s sides, never wanting to let go ever again.

“Jungkookie, I am so sorry,” Taehyung sobbed right beside the youngers ear. “I’ve been so selfish, I didn’t consider your feelings because I thought for sure that you were avoiding this and leaving me in the dark.”

“I would never leave you,” Jungkook cupped the olders face. “We are in this together.”

“We are.” Taehyung half-smiled, he had missed his mate. It had felt like years since the last time they’ve been this close. “Through sickness and health.”

Jungkook brushed his finger over Taehyung’s lip lightly. “Through sickness and health.”

“I love you,” Taehyung closed his eyes when he felt their lips touch, slowly and carefully. They smile, they knew they were going to be okay as long as they have each other.

“No other Alpha could ever love their Omega as I love you.”

It’s the end of June and the whole village is buzzing with excitement. Tonight is the summer festival, where they can play games, dance with family and friends, visit each other as the evening goes on. The summer festival has always been everyone’s favourite.

Jungkook and Taehyung are sitting at a table near the drum group. They’re watching a group of young teenagers dance. “They’re really good,” Taehyung smiles, admiring the carefree attitude each of them had, remembering that he also lived his teenage years like there was no tomorrow.

The song ended and the teenagers left the dance floor for the next performers. “Shall we dance later?” Jungkook suggested, feeling somewhat relieved to see his mate slowly, but surely coming back to life.

“I suppose we can,” Taehyung kissed the younger lovingly before bringing his attention back on the dance floor.

A big group of children, age ranging from four to six years old, run cheerfully onto the floor. They danced however they liked once the music started. They were laughing and smiling together as they unknowingly broke Taehyung’s heart.

Jungkook notices and waits for the older to say something. A promise they made, to communicate when they feel overwhelmed.

Taehyung couldn’t take his eyes off the younger children, wishing to pick one up and give all his love he could possibly give. “I’m alright,” Taehyung finally speaks, still watching.

“I know,” Jungkook pulls his mate closer to him, resting his head on the olders shoulder. “They’re pretty cute.”

“They are,” Taehyung sighs, the song ends and the children clap happily, hugging each other as they run off the floor. Taehyung frowns. “I want my own.” Taehyung whispers after a pause.

“I know.” Jungkook grabs hold of Taehyung’s hand, lifting it up to his lips. “I know.” He gently kisses his knuckles.

They spent the rest of the evening noticing every child with their family, every crying baby in their parents’ arms, and they notice how happy each family were. Something they can’t have.

When they announce that the feast is beginning, Jungkook reaches for Taehyung. “Take my hand.”

They smile. they’re happy.

“Are you sure you will be okay?” Jungkook asks, packing up his lunch for his hunting trip. He went a few times before, but it’s been a while since he last went. He decided to go out because they were starting to run out of food and they didn’t want to keep eating small animals, so they woke up that morning and got ready. Taehyung wished to stay home. He hasn’t been coming along for a while. “You sure?”

“Yes, love.” Taehyung reassured, kissing the youngers’ cheek. He helped him dress up for today's weather. He knew it was going to rain sometime later - judging by how cloudy the sky was. “I will be waiting here for you.”

“Alright,” Jungkook sighed, trusting the olders words. “I won’t be long.” He leaned in to give his mate a kiss. “I love you.”

“I love you,” Taehyung hugged the younger, breathing in his scent - instantly calming his heart. “Now, go. You’re wasting daylight.” Taehyung laughs, pushing Jungkook out the door. “Have a great day! Good luck!”

“I’ll send Jimin over to check up on you later!” Jungkook shouts over his shoulder, running over to his new-found friend, Yoongi, who was waiting by the lake. They walk together, disappearing behind the berry bushes.

Jungkook had met Yoongi at one of the council meetings for Alphas. They discussed many war plans if the enemy ever decided to go against their peace treaty unexpectedly someday. They became friendly after bumping into each other on hunting trips and at the village during their off days, so they both decided to become friends. Taehyung was thrilled when the younger had told him that his friend and his mate were coming for dinner. That’s when Taehyung met Jimin. Both stubbornly, affectionate omegas, there's no doubt that they hit it off instantly like the alphas had predicted.

It was July of the next year, the couple had lived pretty normal for the most part. They were still reminded every day that they are missing something- someone in their life, they still cried every once in a while to let out built up emotions, they still tried to be strong for each other.

Although, yes, they were trying to keep their old lifestyle the same, Taehyung had changed a bit. He had stopped coming along on hunting trips with Jungkook, he stopped singing happily when they were making their meals. The little things that make Taehyung whole, he just stopped. Jungkook was worried, but they had talks to check how they were both feeling. Taehyung was very honest and told him not to worry.

Jungkook was still worried but he knew that he trusted the older, so he backed off. He respected Taehyung’s wishes but he couldn’t completely leave it. So he had someone come to check in his mate whenever he went out to hunt, whether it was Taehyung’s mother, his mother, or his new friend, Jimin.

Taehyung had just finished washing up at the lake, scrubbing off dirt from digging up some potatoes from his new garden earlier. As he was walking towards his hut, he found Jimin knocking on the door.

“Hello there, Jiminie,” Taehyung greets the other when he gets closer. “Nice day we’re having, yeah? I’m surprised that it hasn’t started raining with how dark those clouds are.”

Jimin turned around, a smile forming on his face. “Tae Tae!” The shorter squealed, running to hug Taehyung. “How are you?”

“I’m great, my garden is thriving perfectly.” Taehyung happily returned the gesture. They both decide to cook up their own lunch, since their mates won’t be back until the evening.

“I haven’t seen you in forever,” Taehyung started once they were seated beside each other, both cutting up vegetables. “Why are you so busy suddenly? No time for your best friend, huh?”

“No, I always have time for my dearest best friend,” Jimin nudged the other, his smile growing larger by the second since he had arrived. “Just busy, I guess.”

“Busy? with what?” Taehyung turned to face a pink-faced Jimin. Laughing a little, he raised an eyebrow. “What’s going on?”

“Okay, if you must know,” Jimin puts down the knife- Taehyung doing the same. They face each other and Taehyung noticed how visibly excited Jimin was, judging by the pinkish red blush on his cheeks. “Yoongi and I are expecting! We found out yesterday!”

“Oh..” Taehyung felt himself shut down, suddenly feeling jealous towards his friend, but he can’t show it. “That’s amazing!” He tried to smile and be happy for Jimin, but he knew- deep down in his heart, he can’t. He can’t jump for joy for someone who was blessed with a precious gift that he desperately wants. “That’s so amazing..”

“Really?” Jimin’s smile drops, then quickly reaches for Taehyung’s hand. “I wasn’t sure if I was supposed to tell you. You know, after what you and Jungkook had gone through.” Jimin frowns, rubbing his thumbs over Taehyung’s knuckles. “I can’t imagine how you put up with it. You’re really strong, I admire you for that.”

“No, it’s fine.” Taehyung knew it wasn’t fine. Not one bit. “I’m glad you told me. This is great news, Jiminie. I am so happy for you.” Taehyung felt tears forming in his eyes. It physically hurts to keep talking about it, but he doesn’t want to keep breaking down over something stupid like this. He should be happy for his only best friend. Jimin was blessed by the creator and he should respect that.

“You will be a great father,” Taehyung smiles, looking into Jimin’s eyes to show him that he truly means it. “Yoongi will be too.”

“For what it's worth, you would have been too.”

When Jimin says his goodbyes and promises to visit again, Taehyung stands outside to wave until the shorter is out of sight. He walks back in his hut and he stands in the middle of the room, waiting. He doesn’t know why, but he waits.

Thunder can be heard from outside as Taehyung’s vision begins to blur. Soft whimpers fill up the quiet room as Taehyung listens to the thunder roar. He doesn’t realize that he turns around and opens the door. Wind blowing through his hair as his feet guides him into the forest. Warm tears threaten to spill as his feet picked up the pace. “Oh, please, please, please,” Taehyung’s chokes on his words as he feels himself falling back into the same heartbreak he had been trying to ignore for the past year.

He’s so tired of crying, tired of feeling sorry for himself, tired of longing for a miracle that will never happen. He just wants this to stop.

His legs keep leading him somewhere, but he doesn’t care. He stopped caring a while ago.

Taehyung screams when his legs start to burn. He doesn’t know how long he’s been running for, but he finds himself on top of a cliff, down below pointy rocks.

He doesn’t recognize this area, believing that he’s far from his village. He struggles to catch his breath, he decides to sit on a big rock and looks up to the sky - the clouds have gotten darker than before.

“What did I do to deserve this?” Taehyung whispered, tears blurred his vision. The thunder seemed to have heard him, roaring loudly as raindrops start to fall from the sky. “Why are you punishing me?” Taehyung stood up, screaming at the top of his lungs.

“I have waited for my miracle,” The thunder claps sound much closer, but Taehyung doesn’t notice. “I prayed everyday for you to hear my cries but I got nothing!” Taehyung picks anything he could grab and throw it at the angry-looking clouds. “I got nothing from you!”

Taehyung drops to his knees, his legs still on fire and he cries as the wind begins to become stronger and the rain falling harder, but he doesn’t care.

Death wasn’t something Taehyung hadn't thought of before, but he would push it back. The only reason he hasn’t done anything was because of Jungkook. His alpha that’s been right by his side, grieving alongside him. Jungkook was extremely heartbroken, he continued to live. He was strong and Taehyung was grateful. He wishes he was too. He wanted to be as strong for his precious lover, but it was tempting. To finally be free of this fore shaken curse.

“I’m sorry..” Taehyung whispers, struggling to stand up. He limps over to the edge of the cliff, sobbing when he realizes what his body is doing but he doesn’t try to fight it. He stands inches away from the edge. He breathes in and out, trying so hard to figure out why the Creator punished him. What did he do wrong? Doesn’t matter now, anyway. With one last shaky breath, Taehyung screams until his voice disappears into the wind. “Jungkookie, I hope you can forgive me someday..”

He closes his eyes as he lets himself fall forward, feeling all of his regrets and sorrows leave him.

Oh my god, I’m really about to die

This is it.

Goodbye Jungkook..

I hope we are lucky in our next life.

He didn't notice that the thunder had gotten quieter and the rain stopped. He doesn’t realize that he isn’t falling down towards the rocks, but up into the sky.

Taehyung felt soft mosh under him and the sounds of birds singing as he slowly opens his eyes. “What is this?” Taehyung sat up abruptly, inspecting the new scenery in front of him. It felt like a whole new world as he looked around. “Did I cross into the afterlife?”

Butterflies appear before his eyes and start to circle around him, brushing against his cheeks. “How pretty,” He whispers. Amazed by the beauty, he raises his hand to touch them, but it disappears as soon as he does.

The butterflies danced around him as the wind gently pushed Taehyung forward.

“Where am I?” Taehyung stood up, following the butterflies over to the tall grass. “Where are we headed?” He asks them while they are walking down a long path across the endless fields of grass. “I’ve never seen such green grass before, it’s almost blinding.” Taehyung quietly comments as he continues to walk. After a while. he doesn’t realize that they’ve stopped in front of an old-looking willow tree.

“You are among the thunder spirits, roaming the land of sky woman.” An old woman speaks, but she was nowhere to be seen. Taehyung suddenly feels anxious, trying to find the voice in the tree branches. “We have been watching you, Jeon Taehyung from the land below. We have heard your cries and your suffering, we wish to help you.”

“I appreciate your offer, but I’m really fine.” Taehyung says, bowing at the kind woman’s voice. “I’ve been living for this long and nothing has changed, so I will be fine.”

“My child, I know you are very much heartbroken from the very first time you’ve failed,” Sky woman spoke, sending soft gusts of wind breezing through his hair. “You’re waiting for the day you finally die, but it’s taking longer than expected. So you’ve decided to take it into your own hands.”

Taehyung frowned, not trying to correct her, knowing it was nothing but the truth. “I can’t keep wishing for something I’ll never have.”

“We can grant you that wish,” Sky woman emerges from the tree, the butterflies shaping her body. She had long white braided hair and she was wearing a shawl, finer than he has ever seen. “Or if you wish to stay in the land of sky woman, take hold of my hand, child.”

“What happens if I stay?.” Taehyung asked, skeptical at the choices. The adrenaline he had felt moments ago is long gone and is replaced by strange anxiety. He can’t quite comprehend what is happening, maybe he did die and this is after shock from falling twenty feet. Yeah, maybe that’s it.

Sky Woman chuckled, “If you stay here, you’ll never go back to your own land. You’ll watch your lover grow old and die alone. You’ll never be reunited because he’ll go into the Creator’s arms and you’ll forever be in my land.”

Taehyung was speechless. He can’t do that, right?

“Or, if you wish to have a child, I can grant you your miracle.” Sky Woman added, taking note of Taehyung’s stunned face. “I can see it in your face that you doubt my power,” Sky Woman smiled, she had always found humans endearing.

“N-No! I don’t doubt you!” Taehyung fell onto his knees, “I’m just surprised! I’m grateful that you have chosen me!” He continued murmur praises under his breath. The thought of finally having a child had him weak at the knees.

“It’s settled then.” Sky Woman announced, placing her hand on Taehyung’s head. “Jeon Taehyung, you will be given a child from the Thunder beings. This child won’t be human and may need extra care than a normal human child. This child shall spend their days on earth alongside their wonderful parents. ” Sky Woman carefully places one of her best spells onto Taehyung. “We trust that you will love this child like no other and we trust that you will care for this child.”

“I promise,” was all Taehyung managed to say before his eyelids fell shut.

“You will be blessed with a boy,” Sky woman spoke as she sends Taehyung back to the earth. “But if anyone dares to strike this child, you will lose him.”

“Forever.”

Taehyung gasped for air as he opened his eyes. The dark clouds staring down at him as he struggles to keep his breathing steady. “Jungk-” Raindrops fall gently onto his face as Taehyung felt stabbing pain on his abdomen.

His vision had trouble focusing on the familiar surroundings. “Hello?,” Taehyung called out, his head still dizzy. Once he caught a glimpse of his mate’s makeshift weapon table, he knew that he was safe. And alive.

“Taehyung?! Oh my, Taehyung!!”

Taehyung turned to the voice, vision still very blurry but he knew who was running towards him. The one person he would always depend on. He was grateful. He got another chance with his dear mate. Taehyung was home. “Jungkookie, I’ve returned home.”

“What happened to you?” Jungkook quickly kneeled beside his love. “Are you okay?” Jungkook checked for any wounds on the older’s body, but found none. “What do you mean you’ve returned? Weren’t you already home? What are you doing on the ground?” Jungkook asked, genuinely confused. Before Taehyung could respond, he groaned in pain once again. “I’m taking you inside.”

“Jungkookie, wait-” Taehyung whispered, holding onto his tummy. He just remembered about the precious gift Sky Woman has given him. Jungkook would never believe him if he had told the truth. Thunder spirits blessing them with a gift? seems unlikely, so Taehyung approaches it differently. “Remember last week?” Taehyung started slowly. When Jungkook nodded, he was still confused about what his mate was saying. “Well, let me show you..” Taehyung reached for the younger’s hand and gently placed it on his tummy.

It felt like years for Jungkook to understand what was happening. He raised an eyebrow at first, asked why, then gasped, then pointed at their hands. “Wait-” Jungkook smiled. Finally understanding. “Are you- Are you saying that- Are you serious?”

Taehyung giggled at his mate’s reaction. “Don’t you think the hut is too small for the child that is coming?”

Jungkook jumped for joy as Taehyung smiled at his mate. They were happy before, but now they’re even happier with their own child coming their way. “I love you, Jungkook.”

Jungkook stopped jumping and smiled at his mate, he kneeled down and placed a kiss on Taehyung’s lips. “And I love you, Taehyung.”

“Take my hand, let’s go inside.”

Taehyung gave birth to a healthy Alpha baby boy one breezy september afternoon. The new parents were excited, to finally settle in with their own little bundle of joy. “He’s beautiful.” Jungkook coos as he swaddles the baby. They're now warming up next to the fireplace, both snuggled up with their newborn in between them. Comfortable silence takes over as they close their eyes and listen to each other’s heart beats.

“Yeonjun.” Taehyung hums, gently caressing his son’s cheeks. “Don’t you think he looks like a Yeonjun?”

“Oh, absolutely.” Jungkook giggles, kissing Taehyung’s forehead. “He looks like our son.” He smiles fondly at his family. He would do anything for them. “Our son will grow up to be a strong Alpha like his dad. I’m sure of it.”

“My Alphas, how did I get so lucky?” Taehyung cooed, he’s grateful to be here with his mate and his little baby. All the heartbreak he had endured long forgotten. He has his own family to think about now.

“I love you Jeon Yeonjun.” Taehyung felt his throat burn. “I’m so grateful that you’re here. We’ve been waiting for you.”

Taehyung sobbed while Jungkook held him. They both knew that their miracle had finally been heard and it was overwhelming, but they’re grateful. “Shh, it’s okay.” Jungkook hummed, wiped Taehyung’s tears. “I’ve got you.”

“I’m so happy..”

“I know.”

“Yeonjunie!” Jungkook’s Mother cooed as she lifts up her grandchild onto her lap. “My, look how grown you’ve become!” She kisses Yeonjun’s chubby cheeks until he’s laughing.

“Granny,” Yeonjun smiles, “Did you know that I’m three years old now?” He lifts up three fingers right into his grandmother’s face. “I’m a big boy now.”

“Three years old? Wow! Last time I saw you was when you were two years old!” Jungkook’s mother gasped at the news. Both fully knew that they saw each other just two weeks before. They both giggle at their interaction as they continue to refuse to acknowledge three other people in the hut.

The family of three decided to go visiting on this fine warm day. They made stops in the village for clean fur, because their little one kept ruining his vest by picking at the fur and pulling it out. After that, they were close to Jungkook’s parents hut. Why not visit? so here they were: Sitting inside the hut, boiling hot water for tea.

“I swear, It’s like she forgets that I’m sitting next to her when our grandchildren come over.” Jungkook’s father chuckled, smiling fondly at the sight. “How have you two been?” He asks, grabbing his cup of tea.

“Good, I hope.” Jungkook leans in to whisper, “Taehyung hasn’t killed me yet.” Both Jungkook and his father laugh at the joke, but the younger quiets down when he turns to face Taehyung’s unamused face. “Sorry, baby.”

“Yeah, all of my plans to get rid of him have failed.” Taehyung rolled his eyes at the two.

“Oh, stop it you two. You’re both so happy now.” Jungkook’s mother spoke as she let Yeonjun run out the door to play out in the warm sun, handing over his little hand drum just before he zoomed out. “You’ve been blessed with such a precious gift.”

“Yeah,” Jungkook turned to smile at his precious gifts. “Still don’t know how I managed to do it, but here I am,” Jungkook leaned in to kiss Taehyung’s cheek.

“It started with a scrawny Alpha asking me to dance,” Taehyung jokes, dodging the younger’s slap on the thigh. “You were so small!! I felt bad for saying no the first time!” Taehyung was full on giggling as Jungkook tried to hide his blush. “I’m glad that I went looking for you and gave you a second chance to ask again.”

“No need to hurt my pride, baby.” Jungkook coughed, dismissing the conversation but everyone would just keep talking about it over and over until the day they die.

They all sit and watch the little mischievous boy dig up holes and bury tiny bits of bird bones, then dance around without a care in the world.

“Oh, my grandson full of mischief, reminds me of another Alpha,” Jungkook’s mother wiggles her eyebrows at Jungkook as she jokes. “Indeed, that is my son’s little Alpha.”

“I’m so glad you’ve gotten him into drumming,” Jungkook’s father commented just as Yeonjun started to bang on his drum. “He sure does love making noise.”

“He would be a great addition to the village’s drum group,” Jungkook’s parents agreed. Yeonjun had a good rhythm, he just needed to practice a bit more.

Taehyung noticed that the skies were getting darker, more and more clouds blocking the pretty blue sky. Taehyung stood up from his place beside his mate and slowly walked over to his son.

“Papa! Look!” Yeonjun squealed, waving his arms over his messy hair. Taehyung looked up at the dark clouds over them. “It’s granny!” Yeonjun called out excitedly, jumping for joy just as thunder was heard.

“Yes, your granny says hello.” Taehyung smiles, kneeling beside Yeonjun and attempts to pat down his messy hair. “I love you, Yeonjun.”

Saying that everyone in the village was surprised by the news of Taehyung was finally expecting after their hardship would be an understatement. Rumors started slowly amongst the people, saying that Taehyung used dark magic or possibly made a deal with a dark spirit. Rumours like that amused Taehyung.

After Yeonjun was born, people started to talk again. They were curious about the young baby boy that mysteriously came into their world. Some would question why the boy had a lighter shade of skin rather than the ‘normal’ shade everyone was familiar with. Some would comment that the boy cried too much. Some would even argue that the boy was different. People talked and talked, but honestly, no one needed to know anything about Taehyung and Jungkook’s private lives, so they ignored it. Let people talk is what they said to themselves, We’re happy.

“Yeonjunie,” Jungkook called out, packing up leftovers from their meal and he helps Taehyung fold their new clothing in bundles. It starts to drizzle as they’re slowly leaving the hut. “Baby, let’s go.”

“Daddy!,” Yeonjun came zooming towards the hut from the small sandy area further away, cautiously watching his steps and focusing on something he had in his little hands. “Look at this!” Yeonjun carefully opens his hands to show a small snail. “Who is he?”

“Oh my, that’s a snail.” Taehyung comes in from behind the little one. “Snails are known to be precious.” He has said matter of fact, ignoring the look on his mates face. “Let’s go find it a place to be safe from the rain, yeah?”

“Yes!” Yeonjun spun around faster than expected, but Taehyung knew by now that his son was full of energy. Jungkook said goodbye to his parents as they all went walking towards the path that leads to their home, while Yeonjun and Taehyung searched for a good place for their snail friend. “Right here,” Yeonjun stopped at a big tree stump. Taehyung agreed and carefully, they put the snail into the hollow hole and watched it slowly disappear. “Now he’s safe and sound.” Yeonjun was satisfied.

“Come on, baby,” Taehyung smiled, proud that his son had a big heart. “Take my hand.”

Yeonjun was a child like no other. He spent his days running around with his daddy on his tail, he helped his papa with chores inside their home, he loved all of his grandparents, he was loved and cared for, and he was healthy. Like no other child wouldn’t be. Although, Yeonjun did have small differences from the other children. He was tinier than other boys, he was skinnier too,his speech and pronunciation was slightly different, and he loved playing outside when it was storming with loud thunder claps and bright lightning bolts.

Countless times that Taehyung or Jungkook would have to keep their son inside whenever it stormed or retrieve him if he somehow got out. They never got mad or upset with Yeonjun, though. They noticed that the young boy was happier, smiling wider than usual and singing louder than usual. Yeonjun would laugh and play as if he was accompanied by someone else.

Of course, that was silly. To anyone, it looked like Yeonjun being mischievous and loud. There’s no purpose to his play. To Taehyung, it looked like Yeonjun was being himself. His true self. A thunder spirit.

“Are you sure?” Jungkook asked for the millionth time that morning. “I know that Yeonjun is five now, but are you sure that you want to get back into hunting?”

“Yes, I am sure.” Taehyung sighed, already thinking of changing his mind because the younger seemed to be anxious. “Are you sure that you’re asking the right person?”

Jungkook rolled his eyes, “I am. It’s just that,” he shifted his gaze on the sleeping boy on their bed. “This is the first time that we’re both leaving Yeonjunie.”

That’s true. Ever since their son was born, only Jungkook would leave and Taehyung stayed at home to watch over the little one. Now their little one is five years old and is capable of being at home without his parents.

“I know, but he’s not going to be alone,” Taehyung hugged Jungkook from behind and kissed his neck. “Jimin and his boy are coming over.”

“True,” Jungkook leaned into the olders touch. “We’re only leaving for two hours and we’re only hunting nearby?”

“Yes, oh my goodness, you sound just like me.” Taehyung teased, turning the younger around and kissing him gently. “He’ll be fine.”

Jungkook sighed into the kiss, feeling comforted and relieved. Maybe they do need an outing just for a few hours. “Yeah, he’ll be fine.”

Their son wakes up just as someone comes knocking on their door. “Changbinnie!” Yeonjun runs over and opens the door. He falls over when another small boy jumps onto him.

“Yeonjunie!!” Changbin, Jimin’s son, yells as he hugs the younger. “I missed you! Do you wanna go fishing?”

“Yes! Let’s go!” Yeonjun and Changbin raced out the door, running right by Jimin, who was finally by the door. Jimin shouts after them to wait for him by the big Evergreen tree.

“Hey, how’s my favourite people,” Jimin greets his two friends, walking up to Taehyung and hugging his side. “Your favourite mochi is doing great, if you were wondering.”

“Hi Jiminie,” Taehyung hugs the smaller, easily wrapping his arms around his body. “We’re kinda nervous to be leaving our baby alone.” Taehyung pouts, the situation finally sinking in.

“He’ll be fine with us,” Jimin reassured. “I don’t think Yeonjun would notice that you’re gone anyway,” Jimin smiled as he heard two little boys yelling at him to ‘hurry! We gotta catch the biggest fish before they nap!’

“Yeah, he has Changbinnie,” Jungkook felt ten-times better now. As long as his baby was fine, Jungkook was fine. “We better go, if we want to be back early.”

“Okay, watch over my baby,” Taehyung hugged Jimin one more time before grabbing his own bag on the table, then running over to Jungkook, who was already waiting at the end of their path. “See you my baby!” He called out, turning around to look at his baby before going deeper into the forest, but Yeojun was distracted. He was busy showing Changbin his new vest.

Taehyung smiles. Yeonjun will be fine.

Changbin was born a month earlier. The beautiful Omega cried and cried until Yeonjun was born. Once they were together, neither of them wanted to leave. Yoongi and Jungkook were confused, but Taehyung and Jimin? Let’s say that they knew something.

Yeonjun spent the first hour of his morning with Changbin learning how to properly catch fish. His uncle Jimin is standing right beside them, guiding their arms and their stance. He shows them how to tell when a fish is biting their hook, shows them how to bring in the fish when they do catch it, and what to do with their hands when taking out the hook.

“This is fun,” Yeonjun says, smiling at his uncle. This uncle never questioned him, never looked at him funny, or never tried to correct him. He loved his uncle. “Can we go fishing everyday?”

“Yeah! Daddy can we?” Changbin agrees on the other side of Jimin, carefully casting his hook onto the water.

“I don’t know about everyday, but we can go fishing when we can for sure,” Jimin smiles at the children. He notices that the sky started to change. The blue sunny sky now being covered by grey clouds. He had noticed that the clouds never seemed to go away and it rained more than usual. It felt as if the clouds were watching over them.

After a while, Jimin dismisses the boys. Telling them to go play and stay near the hut while Jimin gets started on their lunch.

“Okay!” The boys run over to the sandy area near the trees. They get started on making the biggest sand castle neither of the boys had seen. They suggest bringing different items to make their sandcastle look prettier. So they picked up pinecones, small coloured rocks, and sticks. They placed the items onto the castle wherever they pleased.

“The castle is bigger than you, Changbinie!” Yeonjun giggled as the older boy was struggling to place a pinecone on top of the castle. “I’ll lift you up so you can reach,” Yeonjun wraps his arms around the older’s legs and slowly lifts him off the ground. Changbin quickly places the pinecone and cheers for joy. Their castle is finished.

“Binnie, look!” Yeonjun points at the sky, the clouds swirling as if it was greeting the children. “That’s my granny up there,” Yeojun waves, hoping his grandmother sees him.

“Your granny died too?” Changbin says quietly, looking at the grey clouds. He frowned. It’s been a few months since he last saw his granny. “When did she die?”

“Die?” Yeonjun was shocked at the word and curious. “My granny didn’t die. She’s up there watching us.”

“Where? I don’t see her?” Changbin searched for anything in the clouds, but he saw nothing. “Are you sure?” He turned his gaze onto the younger’s confused face.

“Yeah, can’t you hear her singing?” Yeonjun tilted his head. “Maybe we need to be quiet.”

“How? The trees are too loud.” Changbin pointed at the shaky tree branches. Neither of them noticed that the wind picked up it’s pace. “And it looks like it’ll rain soon,” He pointed at the dark clouds getting closer and closer.

“Shh, close your eyes.” Yeonjun quickly brushes the older boy’s face, telling him to close his eyes before he misses it. “You’ll hear her.”

Together they stand still. Carefully, they listen for anything that’s floating in the air. They’re completely quiet, but Changbin soon gets bored. He’s about to open his eyes and suggest that they go inside before it rains, and also for the food that’s probably waiting for them by now.

Then he hears it. The faint humming sound that travelled within the winds, breezing by the tree branches and the grass that tickles their ankles. Wind gently brush through their messy hairs and circles them as if they were dancing. Changbin gasps when he hears someone singing in the distance, sounding like they were making their way towards them.

Changbin smiles. This almost feels familiar, like he was being embraced by his grandmother who passed away in the spring. The heartache still hurts, but now he’s smiling and feeling happier than ever.

Changbin almost yelps when he feels hands grab onto his shoulder. The singing sounds closer but still muffled, and yet it feels familiar. “Granny?” Changbin whispers, slowly opening his eyes.

“Changbin,” Jimin spoke, startling both boys. “I’ve been calling for you. Didn’t you hear me?” The boys shook their hands, feeling the familiar magic disappearing into thin air. “Well, lunch is ready. Yeonjun, your parents should be getting home now.”

Yeonjun runs pass them towards his hut first, leaving Changbin with his dad.

“What were you guys doing?” Jimin asks, nudging his little boy to get his attention. Changbin seemed to be distraught with that small frown on his lips.

“Nothing,” Changbin’s voice is small. “We were just making a sandcastle.”

“Wow, that sounds cool.” Jimin grabs hold of Changbin’s hand and they walk together.

Changbin turns around to look at the trees then at the sky. The wind was still blowing the dark clouds towards the mountains. He smiles, now he knows.

It’s the beginning of October, the leaves were orange in colour and it was slightly colder outside. The family were making their way to Taehyung’s mother’s hut so Yeonjun can visit while the two went to the village meeting.

“Alright, wait with granny while we go to the meeting,” Taehyung patted down any loose fur on Yeonjun’s vest. He really needs to give him an alternative clothing, fur just isn't cutting it. “Will you be good?”

“Yes, papa.” Yeonjun nodded, kissing his papa’s cheeks. “I’ll be good.”

“That’s my baby,” Taehyung smiled, hugging the young boy. “I love you.”

“I love you more,” Yeonjun wraps his legs around Taehyung’s waist.

Jungkook and Taehyung’s mother converse together. Promising to tell her any news regarding the enemy’s plan to invade the village. “We’ll be back once the meeting is over.”

“Yes, yes, now hand over my grandson.” Taehyung’s mother reached for Yeonjun that’s still clinging onto Taehyung. “I haven’t seen my Yeonjunie in so long.”

“He’s been pretty clingy for the past few days, I don’t exactly know why.” Taehyung explains as he attempts to hand his baby over to his mother, but Yeonjun doesn’t budge. “Baby, what’s wrong?”

When Yeonjun doesn’t respond, Taehyung walks into the hut he grew up in and sat on the cushion next to his mother’s crafting area. “Baby? Tell me what’s wrong.”

“‘M just sad.” Yeonjun quietly confessed, nuzzling his face into Taehyung’s warm vest.

“Sad?” Taehyung asks, frowning at the thought of his baby feeling sad. “Why sad?”

“Today feels sad.” Yeonjun confessed again. “I don’t want you to leave.”

“I won’t be gone long,” Taehyung tries to reassure his baby, but no matter how much he promises to come back early, Yeonjun still doesn’t budge. “Baby, how about we go fishing tomorrow?”

Yeonjun lifted his head up at the word. “Hmm?” He’s looking at his papa, searching for any uncertainty on his face but there’s none. “Really?” His voice is quiet and small.

“Yes, baby,” Taehyung promises. “If you stay here and be good. I’ll be back before you know it.”

Yeonjun raised his eyebrow in deep thought. “Okay, papa.” Finally, Yeonjun lets go of Taehyung. He stands at the door with his granny and waves off his parents that were walking more into the village.

“My, look at the sky.” Taehyung’s mother commented, pointing at the dark clouds that seemed to follow Yeonjun everywhere. “I don’t know when the last time I’ve ever seen the sun.”

They stay in the hut as it begins to rain. The boy’s grandmother did not like his habit of playing with the storm. She did not like him running out. Whenever a storm approached, she would attempt to shut the boy up in the house. Her efforts were to no avail, however, as he always managed to escape.

When they heard the first thunder clap, Yeonjun smiled and danced around as he attempted to look out the window. “No, get back here.” His grandmother forced Yeonjun to sit with her as they continued to make beaded regalia for Yeonjun and Changbin.

When Yeonjun disobeyed and tried to run out the door, his grandmother yelled at him to stay put. She dragged him back to his spot on the floor. They did this a few times, then Yeonjun had enough.

The boy became very angry. He ran around the hut breaking everything in his path. The grandmother warned him to control his temper, but this only made him angrier. The thunder claps can be heard roaring just outside the hut, as if it was banging on the door.

“Yeonjun, calm down sweetie,” Taehyung’s mother tried to hold down her grandson’s swinging arms, but the boy didn’t hear her. He bites her arm and hisses at her every time the thunder roars.

“Aish,” The grandmother was enraged. She took a stick and struck the boy across his legs. Instantly, there was a blinding flash of lightening followed by deafening thunder. A heavy mist consumed the room. The grandmother was terrified and fled to a corner to wait out the disturbance. When the mist cleared the boy was gone. Far off in the distance she heard a faint roll of thunder.

“Yeonjun?” She yelled, searching for the small boy everywhere in the small hut. When she had no success, she ran outside. “Yeonjun!!” She starts to scream at the top of her lungs, feeling scared of what she had done. “Come back!” She keeps running everywhere, back into the hut and into the forest. She doesn’t notice that Taehyung came back with flames in his eyes.

While at the meeting, he noticed that the thunderstorm was getting worse and worse by the second. He asked Jungkook if they could leave earlier than expected. When the younger asked why, he replied with ‘I’m just worried about baby.’

Jungkook nodded, and they quietly left the meeting. It was raining hard, way too hard to be normal. Taehyung was scared, suddenly remembering Sky woman’s warning, ‘ if anyone dares to strike this child, you will lose him’

Taehyung starts to run faster, leaving Jungkook behind. He knows something isn’t right. He knew he was right when he saw the white flash in his mother’s hut glare through the window and the rain stopped. He just knew. That last thunder clap in the distance, he just knew.

“What’s happening?” Jungkook caught up and found that Taehyung was holding back his tears while his mother was frantically screaming for Yeonjun.

After years of being Yeonjun’s papa, Taehyung felt his heart break for the last time.

“Yeonjun is gone.”

Every year after that, when it storms, Taehyung stands out on the grass where Yeonjun used to spend his days playing and laughing, and he sings for his baby.
