Chapter Text
Edgeworth’s office was a safe zone. When he could, he spent time away from Gumshoe in here. It made Gumshoe feel better to know he was somewhere safe. He’d even been able to start returning to his other duties, out of Edgeworth’s supervision. Edgeworth was safe, and Gumshoe would be good.
He still put on that puppy dog pout when it was time for him to leave. “I’ve gotta go for a while. Trial today.”
“Hmm.” Edgeworth didn’t look up from his computer.
“Remember? I was working with that Klavier guy?”
“Yes, I remember.” Edgeworth waved a hand vaguely. “Don’t worry. I’ll stay right here.”
He could hear the tension leave Gumshoe’s voice. “Good! I just - I just got a weird feeling about this one.”
Now Edgeworth did look up. “How so?”
“Oh, I dunno, it’s just…” Gumshoe scratched the back of his head. “I mean, Wright’s on the defense, but I heard that the other Mr. Gavin really wanted this case? I just don’t like that he’s involved, y’know? Who knows what he’s up to.”
Edgeworth took a moment to consider. Gumshoe’s instincts were probably right; Kristoph seemed like the type to mess with a trial. He could, probably, intervene. He could send Gumshoe to speak to Kristoph and ensure that there was no funny business, no games. He could stick his neck out for Wright, again.
Instead, he said, “You’ve never been to Europe, have you, Detective? I’ve been thinking of another trip.”
Gumshoe perked up. “Wait, you mean you’d take me with you?”
“Naturally, if you’re interested. I think you’d like Germany. The food, in particular.”
“I’m - yes, sir! I’d love to!”
“Good. We can discuss particulars when you’re done with the trial.” He stood up, circled the desk, and walked up to Gumshoe. “Be good,” he said, kissing him on the cheek.
“Yes, sir!” Gumshoe shouted, saluting. Then he marched out. Edgeworth locked the door behind him. Then he returned to his computer and started researching.
Flights to Europe, for two.
