Chapter Text
Grey eyes met his dark ones, they held familiarity but they were different from the shade of gold and amber he had gotten used to see every day, they were a little colder and less open but they were similar, it was his fiance's twin he was staring at, or that was glaring at him.
He didn't have a lot of patience for this, he was going to be getting married in less than two hours and he wanted to make sure everything was clean and intact at the very least before he would get to see his omega walk down the aisle.
“You know i haven't really given ya any shovel talk yet.”
“I thought we were past that?”
“Nope.”
“Well I do have somewhere to be Osamu, threaten me and let me go.”
“Straight the point then, Just don't make him regret this, or me regret letting him do this. Just cause this was to end a war doesn't mean we can't start a new one.”
“I'll keep that in mind, do you have a war declaration war already made up?”
“I just might.”
“Let me know when you want me to sign it then, but i don't plan on disappointing anyone. “
“Let's keep it that way. It would be a shame for this to end in another war.”
“Quit your trash talk and go to your brother, you know he needs you more than i do.”
“You're probably right, he's gonna be a mess, see you later man.”
They gave brief goodbyes and he watched one twin leaves. Another war? Wouldn't that be the turn of the century? But Kiyoomi didn't plan on it. He had been waiting and hoping for the past five years that he would get the twin he had chosen he wasn’t going to screw this up.
When they were 13 and at the Twins banquet, Kiyoomi didn’t know what he expected. He had spent a week designing a necklace that felt heavy in his pocket, he remembered staring at the identical twins as they stood and thanked everyone for coming.
It was definitely difficult to tell them apart but one stood out more than the other. His smile was restrained but as genuine as it could be in that moment. His eyes were A few shades lighter than his brothers and held so much more fire and passion pooling inside of them. Unhinged and ready to burst.
He was intense. But not like his brother, his brother was intense in the sense of calmness and had control over himself. you can see it in the way he held himself, he was put together and wouldn't break under pressure. Standing straight his eyes were guarded, but Atsumu’s were full of spirit.
He held himself differently, he talked with his hands and grinned with his teeth and smirked as he drank from his glass. He talked to as many people as he could and walked with a confidence that only royalty could.
Kiyoomi watched from a very less crowded corner in the room, he watched Atsumu become less guarded and freer as he fell into his natural habitat, in the limelight where he thrived.
It drew Kiyoomi in, like a moth to the flame for many reasons, This man found peace from being the center of attention and that was something that Kiyoomi couldn’t do. He was used to being in the limelight but it wasn’t natural and he was always wary of his surroundings. Atsumu Will be able to steal the attention away from him and would be better in the public eye than he would.
Osamu and him are the same when it comes to behavior and they probably have the same views, Ruling methodically and logically, but Sakusa was entranced by Atsumu’s emotions, he was more in tune with then he had ever seen somebody be. Sakusa would get along with Osamu and it would be a peaceful life if he were to marry that twin.
But when he thought about the passion and fire that was inside of the other twin, unhinged and free all the time, he thought of something more than an easy marriage and peaceful life.
He heard the commotion before he saw it, Glass shattering, breaking against the tile floor, a few people gasping, one person might’ve even screamed at the sound. He wasn’t paying much attention to that though. He watched as one took the blame and was apologizing to the staff as the other twin made a run for it and dashed to an exit.
It would never be a dull moment once he does marry a twin though if that night was anything to go by.
He watched and followed Miya Atsumu, He witnessed him break and fall apart, tears strolled down his face and he fell to the ground, cradling himself with labored uneven breaths. Kiyoomi knew the signs and warnings by heart.
It was a panic attack.
He helped the other as best he could and guided him through his attack, he pulled his mask down and hesitated to touch his face, he knew from experience that the new feeling of touch from another human being was grounding, it didn’t stop Sakusa from cringing, it also didn’t stop him I’m thinking about how warm and comforting the others face was as he held his face in between his hands.
Even though Atsumu had just calmed down and his face was puffy and slightly red, he was still worried about his appearance, fear of being judged, Sakusa could relate to that, but he was also worried about his brother. His concern not for himself but for others is what would make him a good leader, his all-consuming passion would almost be violent but Sakusa could look it over. He saw the Miya twin wipe away old tears and his lips twisted into a grin, he looked like a gorgeous mess. Kiyoomi had to look away when he answered, he looked more than just “fine”
Sakusa could almost see his life playing out in front of him. Osamu would lead to a peaceful untheatrical life, they would end the war, rule a country together, they would rarely fight, they might learn to love each other, One would birth an heir, and so forth. It wasn’t a bad life, it wasn’t the worst possibility, but it seems so dull compared to the one that he could see so vividly with Atsumu.
It would be fierce, A power struggle every day, spontaneous adventures, there would be understanding and comfort, they would push each other to the limits to make each other better, they will rule the nation side-by-side but never truly eye to eye, Atsumu Will take the people into consideration, Sakusa will see the rational side, They will balance each other out. For the better of the country and for themselves. They would have a tough love but it wouldn't be forced or have to be learned but as natural as breathing.
It was the moment he knew which twin he wanted. Kiyoomi was always up for a challenge. Atsumu would be a lifetime if it. He would never complain though.
That’s why he gave the necklace, A formal courting gift to Atsumu. He should’ve written a note, but he was hoping he would’ve been able to explain more. Lady luck was not entirely on his side that night.
He spent the next five years praying that he would get the right twin. He wasn’t allowed to intervene, it was purely up to the Miya twins, he could live with their decision no matter what, but there would always be the “what if” In the back of his head.
Lady Luck did smile upon him that day though, when Osamu had lightly pushed Atsumu he knew what it meant. He watched as everything fell into place.
Now as he watched Atsumu walk down the aisle in a beautifully tailored suit, he couldn’t help but remember what Atsumu had told him weeks ago.
Yes, this must have been fate.
“I called dibs last week!”
“But I got here first!”
“So? There are over 200 other rooms you could have chosen from! Of course, you chose this one!”
“We agreed I would get to choose a room first, I want this one!”
“Too bad ya scrub! I called dibs on this room!”
“First come, first serve!”
Atsumu and Osamu stood in the middle of a large blank room, it had been a week since Kiyoomi and Atsumu got married and the coronation to become kings wasn't for about a month, Osamu and Suna are engaged and plan for a winter wedding, still months away. The twins were not being separated since the kingdoms were not only allying but becoming one in a sense.
The Miya twins decided that at 18 they would finally have separate rooms with their partners, they would see each other every day still, so that meant Suna was moving into the castle soon, which also meant they needed to pick rooms, Of course they would have chosen the same room. They were twins after all, different in so many ways but they were the same in too many too.
Omi-kun stood at the door watching as this unfolded, he didn't see the point of this argument, he didn't see the point in a lot of their argument and bickerings, it was entertaining and fun to watch, Suna and himself had made multiple bets some still ongoing, but this was one the alpha didn't get.
There was an identical room on the opposite side of the hall, not even 8 feet away, the same size, similar closet space, the windows were close in placement as well, but they were arguing about this room.
“Are they always like this?” sakusa asked the beta that was also watching Samu’ and Tsumu tumbling on the carpeted floor, they still wrestled like they were 10-year-olds.
“You know that answer, why bother asking?”
“Your right.”
“3500 yen Osamu gets the room” Suna’s lips quirked up like they usually do when he finds something entertaining, the sparkle of pride and amusement reflected in his eyes as he faces Sakusa.
“4500 Atsumu gets the room and brags about it for 6 months” Sakusa smirked.
Suna's smile grows and he reaches and shakes Kiyoomi’s gloved hand and they nod. They look back and Osamu and Atsumu are still on the floor fighting, bearing teeth and challenging each other like it was a battle to the death. Sakusa hoped Osamu would give in by the night, he would be 4500 yen richer and be able to move things into his and his to-be mates' room.
That was not the case.
At all.
At one week he was concerned, although Suna didn't look concerned or even annoyed at their constant bickering now aimed at each other about rooms, that bedroom specifically, or each other's opinions on where the other could move to.
“If you like the other room so much why don't you go there?!” Atsumu yelled in the mostly empty hallways, they were all on their way to lunch.
“I was explaining why it would be good for you not me! Are ya deaf now too?” Osamu smacked him on the arm.
“If I’m deaf that makes you mentally slow”
“How the fuck did you come up with that??” Osamu looked confused and disgusted.
“Cause if your talking to a deaf person you must be a dumbass!”
“I should have kicked you in the head when you were sleeping when we were 4”
“I should have let you fall off the castle walls when we were 9” Atsumu shoved him with enough force that he lost his balance, but Osamu quickly regained it and glared at his twin.
“You would have been blamed for my murder”
“Wouldnt have been murder, you would have fallen off if i didn't catch you! It would have been an accidental death” Atsumu said with a smug smirk and Osamu rolled his eyes.
It had been like this for the past week and it was leading into the next week as well. They continued and Sakusa was over it, he had almost forgotten about the bet altogether. Between the sarcastic comments and endless wrestling matches they had, Kiyoomi thought it was getting old. Suna sat unfazed and scrolled through something on his phone.
“It's been almost two and a half weeks, how long are they going to fight over a room?”
“This could go on for a year”
“Im sorry, did you just say a year?”
“Maybe longer..”
“Over a room, there is a room identical across the hall, they know this right?”
“Yeah probably”
“And they're gonna drag this on for as long as they can, aren't they?”
“I've seen them fight for longer over something just as meaningless.”
“Do I even want to know?”
“They fought over who would-”
“Nope I don't want to know”
Sakusa could not deal with this for months on end, he was coming up with a plan to win the bet and get the twins to stop. He knew he wouldn't have a dull moment in his life after marrying one of the Miya princes.
By week three, Osamu was rolling his eyes at his brother and Sakusa and glared at the two of them before dragging Suna behind him and stomping off. At dinner, he would have had 4500yen. For now, he watched his omega jump up and down clapping like a kid.
“I feel like you're far too happy about this right now” Sakusa reaches out for him.
“Well I did get the better room, and my Omi-kun helped me, I can already see it, you’ll be the best partner in crime” Atsumu's smile was wide and his eyes beamed with joy, he wrapped himself in Sakusa’s embrace.
Kiyoomi fondly rolled his eyes at the other, “shall we get this room together then?”
The black-haired alpha looked around the room, it was bare, plain white walls, two large windows that sat next to each other, the bathroom was as well, the walk-in closet was big enough for their clothes and probably four other peoples, there would be room for more, Atsumu looked like he was having a field day, he could see it in his eyes, he was already planning where things would go and what it would look like where they were finished.
“Yes we shall my OmiOmi”
And that was the start of it, there were workers and helpers who helped bring up or built the furniture inside the room. Atsumu wanted a king-size bed and he didn't disagree. The bed was pushed in the left corner, two matching nightstands on either side, the bed had nothing on it but a mattress, for now, Atsumu said he wanted his blankets and nothing else, for whatever reason..
Kiyoomi dealt with the other things, hanging up the art on the walls, putting away some of the clothes they had in the closet, Having a worker move the large mirror to a different area, he got a lot done.
So of course after doing all that he was wondering where the omega had gone off to. He didn't have to look too far though. At their old room, Atsumu was having three or four maids help him gather a mass amount of blankets and over 15 pillows, he raised his eyebrows as the omega fussed every time an article of cloth touched the floor.
“Atsu, what is all this?”
“Omi, it's my nest, are ya gonna help?” Atsumu pouted looking over his shoulder, his eyes would shift back to the fabrics, making sure they didn't touch anything he didn't like. So of course Kiyoomi grabbed two or three of the blankets and helped them make way to the new bedroom, He dumped them on the bed and the other followed suit.
He looks at the mountain of blankets in the pillows, this looks more like a child’s fort than a bed. He raised an eyebrow to his husband who only smiled in return.
“Trust the process Omi-Kun”
Instead Kiyoomi went to get lunch, it was midday by that point and he knew the omega would get hungry sooner or later. After making two plates and Suna coughing up the bet money, he headed back upstairs. We lightly kicked the cracked open door open wider, in contrast to a pilled up blankets he saw an organized mess. Pillows were surrounding the walls and headboard, some blankets lay flat and others were jumbled in disarray. But Atsumu looked content, and when he saw Kiyoomi and smiled lazy like and made a grabby hands for him..or the food, but either way he made his way over there.
“Mmm I love youuu” Atsumu lit up as Sakusa handed him the plate of Yakitori and rice balls,
“You just live me right now cause I brought you food”
“And your hot”
“Wow. Good to know that’s why you love me” the alpha rolled his eyes and took a bite of his own food.
“Not the only reason but it sure does help that your stunning”
“Yeah and your kinda cute, only kinda though”
“Omi-Kun you don’t have to lie to yourself, you know you love me cause I'm adorable”
“More like insufferable”
“You love me”
“Of course I do”
Atsumu goes to pull Sakusa into the nest but he puts up a lot more resistance. The omega tugs on his hand again and met with the same resistance, the look on Kiyoomi’s face was one of discomfort.
“Omi what's wrong?”
“It's just..”
Atsumu knew at this point it was better to let Kiyoomi find his words then force them outta him, so he patiently waited, fiddling with his husband's fingers.
“You said this was your nest earlier”
“Yes it is”
“And that's..really important to omega’s”
“yeah, omega’s take their nest very seriously, it's a safe place”
“And you want me..in your nest?”
“Where else would i want you to be?”
“I don't know..i just that-”
“Kiyoomi, you're my husband and about to be my mate, of course, I want you in my damn nest.”
“Oh”
“So get in here and come cuddle with me” Atsumu tugged him and this time Kiyoomi allowed himself to be pulled into the nest and fell into the soft fabrics that felt like a warm hug against his skin, Atsumu wrapped himself around the Alpha like he was a koala and said alphas heart raced, a pleasant content smile took hold of hid features.
Atsumu rubbed his nose against his chest and sighed happily, he was purring again, this time Kioomi took a little pride in the fact his omega was purring because of him.
He looked around the room, it wasn't close to being done and it would need some work to make it feel like home, but they could make it work. And from the sounds coming from outside the room, Osamu and Suna were now moving some of their things into the room across the hall. He would have to remind Atsumu every morning, subtly, for the next couple of months about how he took the room from his brother..just to make sure he lives up to the bet. Atsumu would brag any day to his brother about anything.
Sakusa knew he would never have a dull day, He waited for years, he wouldn't mess this up. He would do his best to make the omega happy, they would fight, it would not be easy every day but he wanted his complications and to be there for him, cause he knew Atsumu would be there for him no matter what.
Atsumu is intense, with a passion that rivals the sun, unyielding energy, emotions that were on display like the necklace around his neck, and an extrovert to the very core, he’s the type of person that breaks the rules so he can remake them, unhinged and free, you don't tame him and Sakusa wouldn't dream of it.
They balanced each other, Atsumu was everything Sakusa wasn't, and Sakusa was everything Atsumu couldn't be, and they didn't fault one another for it, but loved each other for it.
