Chapter Text
Draco couldn’t tell if the ceremony had felt dreamlike because it was Harry he was marrying or because he didn’t get enough sleep. He took a few naps during the day, much to his mother’s chagrin but he told her he had been too excited to sleep. At least he managed to stay awake while the ancient priest droned on during the vows.
Since being woken up this morning he barely saw Harry. So seeing him at the wedding had him falling in love all over again. Draco barely paid attention to anyone else after that.
The majority of guests understood but there were a few self-important ones that thought the Princes were being rude. His Aunt Andromeda tore into one of his father’s “constituents”, also known as pompous windbag, and nearly gave the man a black eye. Draco knew he was about to spit vitriol when the Queen intervened. The man signed his own death warrant (politically) when he tried to excuse his behavior by insulting Aunt Andromeda and explaining his temper by accusing the Princes of their rudeness.
Draco tried not to be so smug as his mother cut the pompous windbag down. He loved his mum. Harry watched in awe as his mother-in-law used a few sentences to end a man’s life. The man fled to hide somewhere, since they were on a ship he couldn’t actually leave. Everyone ignored the scene when the Queen raised an eyebrow but a centimeter.
Draco held his hand out as his mother came over to their table, ignoring father who was frowning at her. Draco got up and hugged her, not caring about decorum. It was his wedding and his mother, and damnit, he was happy. They turned when they heard laughter coming from the side of the ship.
“That was the most elegant murder I’ve ever seen.” James said while hanging over the railing. “My Lily would have just flat out walloped him, after giving him a tongue lashing, of course.”
“Thank you.” Narcissa said politely. “I couldn’t have someone insult my son.”
“I don’t blame you.” James said with a grin. “Gotta watch out for our babies.”
“Dad!” Harry said embarrassed as Narcissa smiled conspiratorially with the merman. “Can we go back now?”
“Can’t wait to get your pretty husband all alone?” A deep voice said from behind them as an arm draped over Draco’s shoulder. Harry glared at the offending arm as Draco rolled his eyes.
“Blaise, our parents are right there.” Draco said blandly. Blaise lifted his drink up and grinned charmingly.
“Queen Narcissa, looking radiant and magnificent as ever.” Blaise said.
“Hello Mr. Zabini.” Narcissa said with an exasperated smile. He was a good boy at heart. He was just a smug little shit.
“And King James?” Blaise asked only a little unsure. James just stared at him. “I see where Prince Harry got his handsomeness from.”
“Charmed.” James said sounding amused.
“Can I help you, Blaise?” Draco said elbowing the other boy in the side. Blaise grunted and pouted at him.
“You almost spilled my drink.” Blaise said. “Anyway, you’ve barely spoken to me or Pansy. Mainly me, though. I come all this way just to be ignored.”
“Pansy’s driving you crazy.” Draco translated while looking at Harry who was lightly scowling at Blaise. “Just dance with her. Or charm someone to dance with her.”
“I want to dance with you though.” Blaise said honestly. “A lot has happened in your life in a span of a few months and I’ve not been told any of it.”
“Alright.” Draco said after looking at Blaise. He could see that his friend really did just want to talk. Blaise smiled happily and set his drink down. Harry didn’t look happy so Draco kissed him. “He’s my best friend and I haven’t really talked to him since you and I met.”
“I don’t like him.” Harry said petulantly. “He’s too charming.” Draco laughed.
“Trust me, after dancing with me he’ll dance with you.” Draco said kissing Harry once more and then was lead to the dance floor.
“You have nothing to worry about, Harry.” Narcissa said as she delicately laid a hand on his arm as he watched his husband like a hawk. “I’ve never seen my son so in love.”
“I trust Draco. I don’t trust Blaise. I have a friend back home like him.” Harry said.
“I think you just want Draco all to yourself.” Narcissa said amused. Harry gave her a sheepish look. “I understand.”
“Since your husband is occupied how about you keep your dad company?” James asked.
“I’ll keep him company while you go mingle.” Narcissa whispered. Harry gave her a grateful smile.
“I need to check in on Ron and Hermione, dad. But I’ll be back later.” Harry said as he gave James a quick hug, not caring that his jacket got wet. James pouted but was distracted by Queen Narcissa.
Harry kept an eye on the dance floor, watching his husband dancing. The two made quite a handsome pair, which annoyed Harry. He wasn’t a great dancer, probably because his legs were only a few months old, so he knew their first dance as newly weds earlier was a little awkward.
He finally focused on finding his friends who, as a special treat, became human for the day. He found them easily enough because of Ron’s hair. They were sitting at a table that had an abundance of empty plates. Hermione was giving Ron a disgusted look as the red head messily ate.
“And why are you two sitting back here?” Harry asked.
“Legs are weird.” Ron answered with his mouth full.
“Ronald!” Hermione said sounding scandalized. “We are at a human event. A Royal human event. You could at least attempt basic manners!”
“Wha?” Ron asked wiping his mouth with the back of his hand.
“Harry, I am about to throttle him.” Hermione said dangerously. To save Ron, Harry stood up and offered his hand to the lady.
“Dance with me.” Harry said. Hermione hesitated but when she looked at Ron she quickly stood up and was the one to drag Harry to the dance floor.
“Honestly, how are we friends?” Hermione asked as she placed Harry’s hands in the correct spots and started leading him around the dance floor.
“Uhm me and him were friends then we saved you and then we were all friends.” Harry said bemused as Hermione danced elegantly. “Where did you learn to dance?”
“I observed. It’s not that hard. Well, maybe me being an octopus helps.” Hermione said thoughtfully. “You...”
“Need a lot of practice, I know. I barely had any lessons. Was my and Draco’s dance embarrassing?” Harry asked wincing before Hermione even answered.
“Well, it wasn’t as bad as you think it was. It was honestly very sweet.” Hermione said and then smiled. “You two are so in love. I believe Ronald said he was going to hurl at how you two looked at each other. I think it’s very romantic.”
“Thanks, Hermione.” Harry said with an embarrassed blush. She smiled indulgently at him.
“Excuse me.” Blaise said next to them making them stop dancing. Draco was standing behind him looking exasperated. “Here I thought I knew all the pretty women. And you are?”
“Unimpressed.” Hermione said staring at the hand extended to her. She startled when Harry started laughing.
“This is Hermione. And I like her more and more.” Draco said as he wrapped an arm around his laughing husband’s waist. Harry released Hermione to wrap his arms around the blond.
“Yes, well. First impressions aren’t everything.” Blaise said feeling off kilter but recovering. He kept smiling and offering his hand, which Hermione stared at.
“It’s customary-“ Harry started.
“I know what he’s doing.” Hermione said shortly.
“Wha’d I miss?” Ron suddenly appeared stumbling into Hermione and Harry, and Draco since Harry was still holding him.
“Ronald!” Hermione scolded.
“What? You know I’m having issues!” Ron said defensively. She made an aggravated sound and stormed off. “Where are you going?”
“To speak to someone civilized.” Hermione said glancing at Blaise as well and then disappeared.
“Is she alright?” Draco asked worried.
“I think she’s hungry but was too nervous to eat.” Ron answered while scratching his head. “She’ll be fine.”
“Yeah, she tends to wind herself up. She’ll be fine.” Harry reassured.
“Hello, I’m Blaise.” Blaise said to Ron. “Ronald, was it?”
“Urgh just Ron.” Ron said. He flinched when Harry elbowed him and mouthed ‘manners.’ “Just Ron, please.”
“Well Ron, may I have this dance?” Blaise asked charmingly.
“Uh, I can’t dance.” Ron said flushing in embarrassment while still leaning against Harry.
“I can teach you.” Blaise said. “Or I still want to dance with Prince Harry.”
“I’m sure Ron would love to dance.” Draco said as he spun a little to make Harry turn, which in turn made Ron stumble into Blaise. “I want to speak to my husband.
Ron made a very undignified noise but Blaise held him up. Harry shrugged helplessly at his friend as his husband led him away from the dance floor. They made it to the side of the ship where Draco just wrapped him up in his arms and held him. Harry hummed happily.
“Do you want to sit down?” Harry asked as Draco nuzzled his shoulder.
“If I sit I’m afraid I’ll fall asleep.” Draco muttered sleepily.
“I thought you took naps.” Harry said amused.
“‘M still sleepy.” Draco said. “Was doing something extremely important last night.”
“Oh? So was I. I feel too happy to be sleepy.” Harry said. “Did you see it before we put our rings on?”
“The scars?” Draco asked as Harry lifted his hand and moved his wedding band up reveling a small silver scar. “Pleasant surprise.”
“Did you cut your finger there for a reason?” Harry asked curiously as he played with Draco’s hand. The blond was leaning more heavily against him.
“Said that there’s a bloodline connected directly... to... heart.” Draco slurred. He startled when Harry shoved him. “I’m awake.”
“Mmhmm.” Harry said as he stepped away from his husband who gave him a grumpy look. “Perhaps I should put you to bed so you’ll be awake for when we get back home.”
“I bet you that-“ Draco placed his hand over his mouth to cover his yawn and then shook his head. “I bet you the moment you lay down you’ll be out like a light.”
“We’ll just see about that.” Harry said as he grabbed Draco’s hand and tried to casually walk them below deck without being seen. Of course they were seen but the guests just shook their head in amusement.
———————-
“I don’t feel comfortable doing this.” Hermione said as she was dragged along by some of Draco’s friends.
“Agreed!” Ron said loudly getting shushed by the girl, Pansy. “They can be left alone, it is there wedding day.”
“We’ll leave them alone after poking fun at them.” Blaise said as they headed below deck.
They had spotted the two boys heading away from the party. Him and Pansy had smirked at each other from across the ship. Blaise had still been teaching Ron how to dance, so the red head hadn’t noticed his best friend leaving. Hermione had run into Pansy and they had struck up a conversation over how stupid certain politics pertaining to women were. Hermione had been ranting so didn’t see Pansy smirk nor her friend disappear with his new husband.
Pansy had suggested they head somewhere else and when they met up with Blaise and Ron, Hermione had grimaced at them. Pansy laughed loudly at her reaction. Ron and Hermione had been confused about where they all were going until Blaise mentioned the husbands leaving and checking on them.
“Just a quick check and then I can give you specific examples of double standards using things Blaise has done in the past versus when I’ve done them.” Pansy said patting Hermione’s hand.
“This is about the horse racing incident, isn’t it?” Blaise asked quietly as they approached a beautifully carved door. The Royal rooms.
“I won ALL those races fair and square.” Pansy hissed. Blaise waved her off while pressing his ear to the door. Pansy joined him while the other two stayed back.
“They’re being awfully quiet.” Blaise whispered.
“Maybe their mouths are occupied.” Pansy said with a shrug. Without any warning she opened the door and snorted at the sight on the bed.
“Seriously?” Blaise asked not keeping his voice down.
“Awww how sweet.” Hermione said peeking over Pansy’s shoulder from outside the room. Ron just rolled his eyes.
The two Princes were sprawled out on the bed fast asleep. They had taken off their formal jackets and boots but were wearing their trousers and under shirts. They weren’t cuddled together but they were holding hands.
“Worst Royal ever.” Pansy said with a fond eye roll.
“What’s that mean?” Ron asked confused.
“She means, Draco’s as scandalous as a piece of white bread.” Blaise said as he left the room. “It’s fine though Pansy dear. You have me after all.”
“I’d rather not.” Pansy said also leaving the room and closing the door behind her. “Shall we?” She asked as she hooked her arm around Hermione’s and dragged her away.
“What’s wrong with white bread? I think it’s tasty.” Ron asked still confused. Blaise grinned in amusement.
“Do you like food, Ron?” Blaise asked as he hooked his arm around the red head and lead him back up. Ron nodded happily. “Then get ready to have your mind blown with different flavor combinations.”
