Chapter Text
After a moment Gon hesitantly spoke, "I think we should go home."
I lowered my gaze to the table where condensation was building on the side on my cup.
"Yeah, okay. Let's go."
I set a 20 on the table and got out of the booth. Gon followed from a further distance then usual.
The walk back to the palace Wasn't filled with jokes and rants about our shared interests like the walk down the mountain. It was crawling with a thick void of speech or sound.
This type of silence sent me spiraling. He hates you now, how could you talk to him like that? Like what? Not wanting to hear him talk about how he might die on a mission that my family is sending him on? No, I mean how could you talk so forcefully towards him. He sounded like it was something that's been weight on him and you shit all over his chance to say it. You're a terrible person and not cut to be crown prince. We're the same person moron, you're calling yourself terrible. I know that, dipshit. I'm the smart one in this brain. It's a wonder you were able to figure that out though, since all you're good for is random stuff we don't need. Fuck off.
As we arrived at the top of the mountain I stopped us both.
"Gon, I'm sorry. I shouldn't have talked to you that way."
"No, I'm sorry. I forgot that you're my boss and you aren't paying me to talk to you about my feelings. I need to work on being more professional." He started walking again so I stopped him, again.
"No! Wait, Gon, I like our relationship and I like how close we are. We're paying you to keep me safe but that doesn't mean we have to reject every other type of interaction. And the only reason I didn't have you to talk to you about the mission is cause I don't even want to consider a possibility that you might not come back, because Gon, I lo-,"
"GUESS WHO HAS A CONCUSSION? That's right! It's meeeeeeeeeee!" A pink hair lunatic walked over to us, and then fell over.
I leaned down to look over the man. "What's wrong with him?"
"Is he dead?"
My brother glided over to his fiancé and picked him up, surprisingly carefully. "I hit him with a bottle and he got a concussion."
Gon lit up and excitedly gasped, "so he's gonna be in a dark room for a week with minimum human contact and not back to normal for a month."
Illumi nodded while Gon groaned about being gone for this miracle.
