Experiment # 78 - B

Subject(s): DRM-25

Researcher(s):

Themis

Crius

Atlas

Date(s) of experiment: December 3rd, 2011 - January 7th, 2012

Subject data prior to experiment

Age: 13

Height: 5 ft. 5 in. (167 cm.)

Weight: 65.3 lbs

Mood: The subject is in a generally depressive mood. It has lately been hesitant to eat, sometimes outright refusing to consume meals. The experiment was derived to create a link between “good feelings” and food to sustain health.

Physical Description: The subject seems sickly and underweight. Hair is unkempt (Note to give the subject a haircut and clip nails next time it is put under anesthetic).

Experiment detail(s): We will release 10 milligrams of Heroin (Opiate) into the air every time the subject eats. Repeat every other day for a week, or until the subject develops dependence. Once the subject is dependent on the drug and receiving the desired outcomes, we will stop giving dosages and study the reactions of a possible withdrawal from the drug.

Desired outcome(s): We hope to be able to have the subject associate the ‘high’ of the drug to the food that they are eating in hopes to have them want to eat more, creating a Pavlov effect upon the subject's mind.

Subject reaction(s):

Day 01 (December 3rd): The subject responds positively to the drug. The effects of the high lasted about 15 minutes which was just long enough for the subject to eat most of its food, which it ate slightly more than the previous day. The subject then proceeded to sleep most of the day, only getting up once to go to the bathroom.

-Atlas

Day 02 (December 5th): The subject appears to react similarly to the drug as the day before. It did not eat the food this time around, seemingly clutching its stomach in a painful manner. After the pain stopped and once the apparent high was gone, the subject ate a little bit more food. Maybe we will try administering the drug after the subject eats.

-Themis

Day 03 (December 7th): As soon as it ate all the food we had provided it, we administered the drug which seemed to have a much more positive response. The subject enjoyed the effects a lot more and I and the other researchers have much higher hopes that this project will turn out exactly as we hoped. The subject once again slept for long hours afterward.

-Themis

Day 04 (December 9th): We repeated the process similarly to Day 03 by administering the drug after the subject has eaten its food to its entirety. The subject completed its food and exhibited normal signs of high, but remained unresponsive for the remainder of the day.

-Atlas

Day 05 (December 11th): Subject refused to eat food. The drug was not administered. Mild withdrawal symptoms became apparent, as the subject seemed to have bouts of nausea and vomiting, as well as heightened paranoia.

-Atlas

Day 06 (December 13th): The subject refused to once again eat today, instead of laying in its bed. Once again we refused to administer the drugs and the subject found itself vomiting beside its bed. (Note: Send Iapetus for cleanup) . Hopefully, the subject will eat again, and we can administer the dosage once more so the subject can start correlating the two.

-Atlas

Day 07 (December 15th): The subject ate today, not as much as it's usually done but it was enough to administer the drug. The subject seemed to greatly enjoy the high, although we recorded the actual time of the high was a lot shorter than previously recorded. Dosage will be increased.

-Themis

Day 08 (December 17th): Subject ate with great enthusiasm, the dosage was increased to 15 milligrams, and high lasted longer than the day prior. The subject ate with enthusiasm between experiment days (December 18th) as well.

-Themis

Day 09 (December 19th): DRM-25 has been eating consistently due to the motivation of the high. Despite the fact that the “crash” seems to be increasingly worse, he still continues to eat. The association between food and the ‘high’ seems to be greatly ingrained. We will likely stop administering the drug for the rest of the experiment, to see if he will continue to associate good feelings with the food.

-Crius

Day 10 (December 21st): Drugs have stopped being administered. The subject continued to eat normally (with enthusiasm) but seemed greatly distressed when no high was experienced after food.

-Themis

Day 11 (December 23rd): The subject had eaten even after just throwing up after food was presented. The withdrawal symptoms are getting worse and the subject is starting to noticeably scratch at itself. It often keeps looking at one corner of the room nervously, as if seeing something dangerous that we cannot see. The subject also appears to be having violent shakes that often leave it unmoving. Spending about half the front left corner of the room. We will need to keep an eye on it to make sure the withdrawals don’t get dangerous.

-Themis

Day 12 (December 25th): DRM-25 was given a special meal for Christmas. I don’t think he noticed, but he ate it all. There was no high, and he seemed greatly distressed. The (presumed) hallucinations, paranoid, and self-harming behaviors continued. 25 seems to be experiencing paranoia and nausea the most, as he threw up multiple times.

-Crius

Day 13 (December 27th): The withdrawal symptoms are starting to lessen. While the subject has appeared to stop vomiting, the violent shakes are still prominent. The most interesting thing that has happened is that the subject is calling for a ‘Patches’ but I am unsure of what that is. Will write a note as soon as I discover the identity of this ‘Patches.’

-Atlas

Day 14 (December 29th): I have discovered that Patches is a cat. Most likely formed as a hallucination during the withdrawals. I can estimate that the hallucination will disappear as soon as the body expels the drug from itself. The shakes are slowly lessening as the days go by, and I have an audio recording of the subject pleading for what it calls the "the Good Feelings". As usual, the subject has eaten. This experiment seems to be going the way we hoped it would.

-Atlas

Day 15 (December 31st): The shakes have disappeared almost completely, the subject seems to be doing a lot better physically and getting over the withdrawal symptoms at the pace we estimated. The subject's symptoms and reactions seem to be stagnating. I will return in a week to create the final note for the conclusion of this experiment unless anything noteworthy occurs.

-Themis

Day 16 (January 7th): The Experiment has come to its conclusion. The subject appears to be eating every meal we have presented. While most of the ‘hallucinations’ have gone. Patches seem to be a recurring one. We will add it to the list. The withdrawal symptoms have gone completely, and while the Subject every once in a while asks for another chance to ‘feel good', it otherwise keeps quiet. (Though Kronos seems annoyed by this prospect.) It will still often scratch at its arms but now we believe it has become a sort of comfort action to the subject in the form of a self-harm. We may need to trim its nails to prevent further damage.

-Themis

Achieved outcome(s): The subject has appeared to now associate good feelings or highs to the food and will actively eat whatever we serve. The experiment has come to a fitting conclusion.

Subject data after experiment

Age: 13

Height: 5 ft. 5 in. (167 cm.)

Weight: 61.7 lbs

Mood: Mood remains depressive, and now much more paranoid. Withdrawal symptoms seem to be slowing/ceasing, but the subject still tends to get bouts of panic, sweating, and insomnia. Often seen scratching at its arms and face. (Note: Check for wounds next time we bring it in)

Physical Description:

Researcher Notes: Since the subject seems to have such a good connotation with food now, how far will he go just for the chance to seek a good high? Might be another experiment for another time. Maybe I can put something poisonous in there. It’d be fun to watch him eat something I know will make him sick.

-Kronos
