Chapter Text
Ellie pauses at the front door for longer than is necessary before unlocking it, the house is quiet, Joel and Sarah were out finishing the morning chores. Part of her feels guilty for missing them for practice but Joel never makes her feel bad about it. Her family was so proud of her.
She smiles to herself as she hangs her bag on a hook in the hallway. She throws some frozen waffles into the toaster and pours herself a glass of orange juice while they cook. She can’t wait for track season to be over so she can have Sarah’s hot breakfasts again.
Ellie spreads some butter on her half warm waffles, folds them in half, and unceremoniously shoves both into her mouth as she walks up the stairs to her bedroom. She washes down the starchy mess with the open can of Rockstar from her dresser before rummaging around her room for a clean towel.
She finds one that doesn’t stink and tosses it into her attached bathroom, ever grateful that she had won the second master from Sarah in a game of rock, paper, scissors. Ellie connects her phone to the speaker on the bathroom counter and cranks up the music before stripping out of her sweat-soaked clothes.
Ellie settles on the edge of the tub as she turns the water all the way to hot, humming along with the music. It takes a moment for the water to reach a suitable scalding temperature and when it does Ellie pulls up on the handle that diverts the water to the showerhead. She lets out a relaxed sigh as she steps under the stream, her eyes falling shut as the hot water pounds against her back.
The tension she holds in her shoulders starts to melt away after a few songs and she starts going about washing herself. The smell of her body wash starts to mingle with the strawberry conditioner soaking in her hair, leaving the bathroom in a cloud of spicy, sweet steam. Once she’s clean, she spends another twenty minutes just letting the hot water iron out the cramps from practice.
She doesn’t end up stepping out until the water is lukewarm and she’s started to prune. She wraps the towel around herself before padding back out to her room, flopping into the bed with a sigh. Ellie burrows into her blankets despite being soaked and flops her head on the pillow, eyes already drooping. Midmorning naps are Ellie’s favorite thing after all.
She’s just about to nod off when her brain decides to remind her, in full 4K, of what Abby Anderson looks like naked. She bolts upward in the bed, nearly falling out of it as she scrambles to find her phone. She yanks it off the charger and dials Jesse’s number before she slams herself back into the bedding.
“Hello?” Jesse answers and Ellie doesn’t give him a chance to say anything else before word vomit is tumbling from her lips.
“IjustrealizedthatIhadsexwithAbbyAndersoninthelockerroomthismorning,” Ellie rushes out, not taking a breath until she’s finished with the statement.
“Okay, try that again, but slow down, I only caught like every third word,” Jesse chuckles and there’s something about it that makes Ellie blush.
“Ugh,” Ellie groans, slapping her free hand to her forehead. “I had sex with Abby Anderson.”
“Excuse the fuck outta me?” He replies and Ellie can picture his brows raised in shock. “Is that where you were after you biffed it this morning?”
“Yup,” she says, the p popping loudly. “I don’t even know how it happened. One minute we were giving each other shit, the next she was riding my face like she was at the rodeo!”
“Dude, I know people have said she’s gay, but I didn’t actually think she was!” Jesse says from the other end, the obvious excitement echoing in his voice. “You’ve had a crush on her since sophomore year!”
“Yes, yes, I know,” Ellie huffs, rubbing her eyes. “We can skip over that, thank you.”
“How’d you do it, man?” Jesse teases and it makes Ellie roll her eyes.
“I don’t even know, I told her “fuck you,” and then she said “sack up and fuck me yourself, Williams,” and I thought she was making fun of me!” Ellie exclaims, wrestling the wet towel off of herself. “But she wasn’t!”
“I deduced that from you having sex,” Jesse snorts while Ellie does her best not to blush. “This is fucking great.”
“No! It isn’t!” Ellie yells, flopping her head against the pillow. “We’re supposed to meet up tomorrow. What the fuck do I do?”
“Just don’t get a Uhaul,” Jesse chuckles and suddenly Ellie wishes she had waiting to tell this to him in person so she could punch him.
“You’re a douche,” Ellie huffs out, rolling onto her side to grab a fresh rockstar from the mini-fridge by her bed. She cracks it open and chugs about half of it after sitting up. “I just don’t know if she’s fucking with me or not.”
“Well, clearly she’s fucking with you,” Jesse teases and Ellie wonders if driving to his house to punch him is worth it. “Seriously though, I don’t think she would have had sex with you if she didn’t like you in some way, I mean, did she say anything that would make you think she doesn’t?”
“No...I guess not,” Ellie replies, her face going red as she remembers Abby asking if it were a dream. “And mean, I gave her plenty of outs if she needed them, but she was all in...”
“Then why are you freaking out, dude?” Jesse asks and it takes a minute for the words to sink in before she comes up with an answer.
“I was her first time with a girl,” Ellie says softly, her heart jumping into her throat. “Oh man, what if I freaked her out!”
“Oh my god, Ellie, shut the fuck up! You’re fine,” Jesse says and it snaps her out of it a little. “I’m assuming you got her number, just text her, moron.”
“Fuck! I am a moron, christ on a cracker,” Ellie slaps a hand to her forehead, cursing softly at herself. “I’m gonna do that, right now.”
Ellie puts Jesse on speaker before pulling up the text thread she had started with Abby earlier. Hey, want me to pick you up tomorrow?
She sends it and rolls her eyes at Jesse’s humming over the line. “Is that the fucking jingle from the deli downtown?”
“Dude, it’s been stuck in my head all day!” Jesse exclaims and it makes Ellie laugh. “I want a fucking sandwich, man.”
“Jesus, are you stoned or stupid?” Ellie asks, patting around the edge of her bed for the shorts she knows she threw there.
Sure, that would be great! Come’s Abby’s reply followed shortly by the quarterback’s address.
Awesome, I get done with my morning chores around 8, so I could pick you up at 10. If that works for you. Ellie sends back, now humming along with Jesse, much to her chagrin.
“Hey, I’m gonna catch some sleep before I have to work on the yard with Joel,” Ellie says after realizing she was grinning while texting Abby. “See you on Sunday for practice.”
She hangs up as soon as Jesse responds and wiggles her way back into her blankets, happily texting Abby until she drifts off, finally, for her nap.
