Chapter Text
“Does that mean… you like me?” Sirius asked, hesitantly.
His heart was beating so fast it felt like it was going to jump out of his chest. It was like a dream when the brown-haired boy standing in front of him shook his head with a smile on his face. Sirius was totally mesmerized. Remus’ smile sparkled like his eyes. He tilted his head slightly, looking at him expectantly. He had his hands in his. He was sure that no love potion could make him feel the way he felt while looking at him. He was completely enchanted, without being under any spell.
He took a shaky breath, “You…are you serious?”
“No. You’re Sirius,” he chuckled, then got serious. “Sorry, it took me so long to understand my feelings.”
Once Sirius was able to use his mind again, he twisted his wrists and ran his fingers through Remus’. “It doesn’t matter,” he said with a smile. “But you need to kiss me one more time to make sure it’s worth the wait.”
They both started laughing. Remus did as he said and kissed Sirius again. It was a short, sweet kiss this time. When Remus pulled his head back, Sirius, caught by the kiss, suddenly asked him out. Remus agreed without hesitation. It was astonishing to Sirius that happiness was so easy. He threw herself into Remus’ arms and hugged him tightly.
No one knew yet that they were together, but they both could not wait to tell them. While waiting for his friends to return, Remus had told him about the conversations he had had with James, and that both Peter and James knew about everything. Sirius also briefly talked about what happened with Dave and admitted that Dave was aware of his feelings for Remus as well. Maybe these were not usual things the two lovers would talk about from day one, but they used to tell each other everything and they had hidden these long enough.
They were sitting together on a sofa in the common room, giggling nonstop as they talked about it all. Sirius could not remember ever feeling this happy before. Remus was by his side, he loved Sirius, and he loved Remus too. He loved him too much.
“Can I kiss you one more time to make sure I’m not dreamin’?” Sirius asked.
Remus started laughing, he was asking that for the fifth time. He nodded to Sirius, and with his permission, he approached his new lover. He stole a kiss from his lips as he snuggled closer to him. Then he pulled back and looked at Remus. He was smiling. Sirius smiled too.
“Merlin, finally!” James’ voice was heard, and then there was a round of applause.
Sirius and Remus jumped in fear. They had not heard the door open. They turned and saw Lily and the sixth-grade Quidditch team members standing at the entrance to the common room. Their training should be over. They all applauded the new couple, and someone even whistled. Sirius realized that it was Katelyn.
“Hey,” he shouted, grinning. “Didn’t you hear something called privacy?”
Lily slid behind their seat and leaned over, putting her arms around Sirius and Remus’ shoulders. “No,” she said cheerfully. She pulled them to herself and hugged them tightly. “Congratulations!”
“See, our sons are finally together!” James said tearfully and walked over to Lily and hugged her around the waist. “I feel so emotional..”

When it was time for dinner, they all descended into the Great Hall. Meanwhile, Peter was walking through the front door with Violet by his side. Apparently, they had just returned. When he saw his friends, he rushed to them excitedly. Violet followed after him.
“We have news for ya,” said Peter, excitedly.
Remus and Sirius looked at each other. They chuckled again, then turned to Peter. “We also have news. How about saying it at the same time?” Sirius asked and winked.
Peter gasped, he had already understood. “You’re kiddin’,” he said.
“It’s true!” James jumped in eagerly and hugged Remus and Sirius from behind.
“Merlin! So I asked Violet out and she accepted, now we’re together! Congratulations, mates!” Peter said excitedly in one breath.
Their joyful congratulations at the entrance of the hall continued for a while. They were all hugging each other in turn. When the hugging time was finally over, Remus took Sirius’ hand as he turned to him and smiled. Sirius smiled at him the same way when someone caught his eye:
Dave had been standing a little further away, looking at them. He was smiling too. Realizing that he had been noticed, he raised his thumb in the air. The place was too loud for Sirius to hear him, but he could read his lips and tell the boy was saying ‘Congratulations’. He grinned and watched the boy disappear into the hall. He wished that he would make everything right.
He turned back to Remus. “Let’s go,” he said. “I’m starving.”
Remus chuckled and nodded at him. Eight friends entered the hall at once. Sixth grade was not cursed, they were wrong. Sixth grade was great. And Sirius wanted to stay at seventeen forever and be this happy.
