Chapter 10: The Perfect Moment

Notes:

Hey guys! Surprise! You get this a day early because I am on a train to Michigan to meet up with some of my Earper pals, and I don't want to forget to post or get too busy and leave ya'll hanging!

It’s the end of the road for this random little fic of mine. It’s crazy, every time I finish posting one of my stories, it’s a little bittersweet to me. This entire story was crafted all because I wanted to do a fic where they meet in detention. That’s it. That was the entire prompt. And then this happened, and it completely escaped my control. And this might just be one of my favorite pieces I’ve ever done. The love and support on this piece has been astonishing, and I appreciate and love the hell out of all of you for it. I certainly wouldn’t mind coming back to this universe for a one shot or two in the future maybe, that’s for sure. Thank you to @New54321 and @Haught_Pursuit for all of your guy's help on this story, you guys are the absolute best!

So, without further ado, I hope you all enjoy this last chapter, and you enjoy your Wayhaught <3

(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)

Chapter Text

Nicole grunted as she shifted the heavy box in her arms, pushing it against the railing so she could try to get a better grip on it. Waverly had a tendency to pack her boxes to the brim, resulting in them being much heavier than a normal box should be, which meant of course, Nicole got to be the lucky victim to carry them.

It didn’t help that half of the boxes were literally all books.

Damn her stupidly smart, sexy girlfriend.

She huffed as she shuffled down the porch carefully as she made her way to Wynonna, who was standing around the other boxes and arranging them in the bed of her blue and white pickup like some sort of tetris game. Nicole quickly set the box down on top of the tailgate, breathing in deeply and shaking out her arms.

Wynonna looked down at her with narrowed eyes. “That’s awfully dramatic Ms. ‘don’t worry baby, I can do the heavy lifting,’ Wynonna mocked, sticking her tongue out at the end for added effect.

Nicole scoffed, rolling her eyes and walking around to the passenger side of the truck, while Wynonna hopped off the back to head to the driver's seat.

“I don’t sound like that,” Nicole argued weakly once Wynonna slid into her seat. “And that’s not at all what happened.”

Wynonna quirked an eyebrow, turning her key in the ignition and causing the truck to roar to life. “Oh really? Because last I checked, Waverly’s had you wrapped around her finger ever since you two started doing it a few months ago.”

Nicole cringed at the brunette’s wording. “That’s not- we don’t always-” she tried, finally stopping once Wynonna shot her an unbelieving side glance.

Nicole sighed.

“She had me wrapped around her finger way before that,” she muttered, slouching further into the seat and crossing her arms over her chest. She looked out the window, hearing Wynonna laugh triumphantly beside her as she drove them both to the homestead.

It had been a few months since the night Nicole and Waverly had talked about everything, opening themselves up and being vulnerable to each other in numerous ways. Which ultimately meant it had been a few months since Wynonna and Curtis had started renovating their childhood home.

Waverly had been deeply skeptical at first, and Nicole could tell. The girl had expressed her fears and anxieties to the redhead many times throughout those first few weeks, before finally caving and telling her sister she would move in with her. Things had seemed fine after that, and Nicole had figured that would be the end of it.

Until Waverly had reminded her of the proposition she had made that night.

And how Nicole had promised to talk to Nedley about her mom.

It took some convincing on Waverly’s part, Nicole would admit, but finally, after about a month, Nicole caved too. The next day she spent at the shelter, she met up with Nedley and told him that maybe she was ready to be on her own. She was technically a legal adult now, and she was actually able to accept the fact that maybe everyone was right. Maybe she did need to start living her own life and doing things for herself. Maybe it was time to step out of the shadows of her mom and her past, and finally be her own person.

It had taken maybe a month after that for Nedley to put all of the pieces in motion for her. How the man had done it, Nicole might never know, but what she did know was that Nedley had somehow, someway, over the course of that month, convinced her mom to check herself into a rehab facility just outside of town.

She was grateful, of course she was, although she had to admit a part of her was almost bitter about it. She was almost upset with the fact that Nedley seemed to be able to do it so easily. One month was all it took for him.

Nicole had never been able to get her to do it; and that was over the course of eighteen years.

Nicole swallowed heavily when they approached a stoplight, and she recognized that they were about halfway to her new home. The words were still weird to say, almost even weirder to think. She had agreed to move in with her girlfriend, and her girlfriend’s sister. She never would have imagined this would be her life, but here she was.

All of her things were already at the homestead. They had been moving boxes for the last day now, and they just got the final things that Waverly had left in her room the night before; the girl claiming she was too tired to deal with it and that they could always just do it in the morning.

Of course, that meant Nicole and Wynonna could deal with it in the morning, and Waverly could hang back and start arranging their room.

Because holy shit, they had their own room together now.

Waverly had offered Nicole her own space. She had told her they had the extra room, and that Nicole wasn’t obligated to share a room with her just because they were dating. Hell, Nicole still hadn’t even told Waverly she loved her yet, it was no surprise that Waverly was skeptical with that kind of jump.

Nicole always did have a way of doing things backwards, it seemed.

“I can hear you thinking from over here, Haught. Those thoughts better be PG and not about banging my sister.”

Jesus, Wynonna, do you always have to be so vulgar?”

Wynonna shrugged halfheartedly. “It’s part of my charm.”

Nicole rolled her eyes. “Yeah, yeah,” she muttered.

Wynonna looked over at her, her face scrunched up in confusion. “Okay, seriously, what’s going on ‘cause you’re kinda killing my vibe over here dude.”

Nicole finally looked over at the girl, expecting to see some kind of annoyance or teasing on her face. Instead she was surprised to find what looked like worry and concern in sparkling blue eyes.

Her and Wynonna had gotten a lot closer over the last few months, even going as far as having a few late night escapades that Waverly may or may not have yelled at her later for. The older Earp was someone that, for the first time since Waverly, Nicole truly considered a real friend.

And much to her surprise, there were times where she felt that maybe those feelings were reciprocated, even if Wynonna tried to hide it.

Times like now.

Nicole sighed, figuring that maybe out of all of the people in the world, Wynonna would be the best person to talk to about what had been bothering her.

“I… I’m scared to tell Waverly I love her,” Nicole admitted quietly.

Wynonna grew visibly confused, her posture shifting to face the redhead more as she drove, showing Nicole that she was giving her full attention. “Wait, but she says it to you like, all the time.”

“I know.”

“So you already know she loves you,” Wynonna continued.

“I do.”

Wynonna’s eyebrow scrunched up further. “I think I’m missing the problem here.”

Nicole let out a long breath, her head falling against the window as she decided to finally let go, and let her thoughts break free.

“I’m not worried that she doesn’t love me. That hasn’t been the problem for a long time now. There’s no doubt or worry there. It’s just… there are times I feel like maybe I’m not worthy enough to say those words to someone like her, you know? There are times where this feels so… so perfect. Too perfect. And sometimes I worry I might fuck this all up if I don’t tell her when the moment isn’t-”

“Perfect?” Wynonna interrupted.

Nicole nodded.

The brunette sighed, slowing the truck as they approached a stop sign not too far from the house. She turned, her body now facing Nicole’s as she looked her in the eyes, conveying a seriousness Nicole was pretty sure she hadn’t seen since her shovel talk.

“Look, Haught, you gotta stop doing that.”

Nicole furrowed her brow. “Doing what?”

Wynonna gave her a look, as if the meaning of her statement was obvious.

“You have to stop pulling the ‘I’m not good enough for her because my life sucked,’ card,” the brunette chastised.

Nicole’s eyebrows rose, surprise clear on her features at the older girl’s words.

“You have to stop doing that because it’s not true,” Wynonna continued, her voice far more passionate than Nicole had been expecting. “You wanna talk about perfect? Nicole, you are perfect for Waverly. I have never seen that girl shine as bright as she does when she’s with you, or when she’s thinking about you, or when she’s talking about you. It's genuinely repulsive.”

Nicole laughed, shaking her head as a warm smile worked its way onto her lips. For as much shit as people gave Wynonna, she was honestly a pretty big softie when given the opportunity.

Wynonna smiled back at her, her eyes conveying a genuineness that didn’t quite match the teasing of her words.

“You make her happy, Nicole. I think that’s all someone could really ask for.”

Nicole let out a soft breath, her nerves working their way back up as she spoke softly.

“You don’t think I should be waiting for the right time?”

Wynonna chuckled. “Dude, there’s no such thing as the ‘perfect moment’. All of that is based on what you think. Do you think the moment is perfect? Well, then that’s it. You’re thinking so far into it that you’re letting every perfect moment you guys do have pass you by, all because you think there will be a better one later.”

Nicole almost laughed at how accurate Wynonna’s take of the situation was. Sure, finding the right time wasn’t the only problem Nicole had come across, but it was definitely one of the bigger ones that had been stressing her out the most.

And just like that, Wynonna had somehow found a way to tie all of those worries and insecurities into a nice little box for her, sealing them away where they no longer mattered.

Because the older Earp was completely right. There was absolutely no reason for Waverly to have any doubt about Nicole’s feelings for her.

Because god, was she hopelessly in love with that girl.

With the silence between them, Wynonna eventually turned back towards the steering wheel, switching the truck back into drive as she made her way along the old dirt road. Nicole was left with her thoughts for the remaining five minutes of the drive, and the two didn’t say a word to each other until they got out and went around to each grab a box from the truck bed.

That was when Wynonna turned to her, halting her movements with a supportive hand on her shoulder, and spoke.

“Haught. You two obviously love each other, more than I’ve ever seen two people love each other before, except for maybe Gus and Curtis.”

“That’s a high bar,” Nicole noted.

“It is,” the brunette nodded. “But it’s true. And Waverly isn’t just going to leave you when things get hard, especially now that you literally live with us. You really do have nothing to lose here.”

Nicole nodded in agreement, moving to grab one of the lighter boxes from the back and hold it against her hip. “You’re right, Wynonna. Thank you,” she said sincerely, hoping her eyes showed just how thankful she really was for their talk.

Wynonna nodded her head once in acknowledgement before grabbing a box of her own, shouldering past Nicole as she walked towards the porch. Nicole rolled her eyes, following the brunette towards the house.

“Kids and their teenage angst…” Wynonna muttered, just loud enough for Nicole to hear it under her breath.

Nicole scoffed. “We’re literally the same age, Wynonna. You’re older by like… a few months or something,” she called out.

Wynonna hardly responded, instead choosing to flip Nicole off from behind while cackling in amusement. Nicole rolled her eyes, her steps slowing as she walked up the stairs to the porch. Wynonna walked through the front door, but Nicole stayed rooted where she was. She needed a minute. Because this was it.

This was the start of her new life. A life where she could be whoever she wanted to be, and do whatever she wanted to do.

And she could do it all with Waverly Earp, the love of her goddamn life by her side, every step of the way.

Maybe that kind of thinking was still a little soon. They hadn’t even been dating a year yet, but Nicole could just feel it.

Waverly Earp was it for her.

She exhaled heavily, the box beginning to feel heavier and heavier the longer she held onto it.

She looked up in the direction of the upstairs, where she knew Waverly was right now, arranging their new room. She felt herself grin, her dimple popping as she sighed dreamily.

This was it.

It was time to finally face the music, once and for all.

*****
The music was blaring in Waverly’s headphones, the chorus of the song on full blast as she hummed to the music. She was organizing the book shelf they had moved up to her new room the night before, and she was making sure everything was in the right spot.

So what if she had a little OCD? It didn’t hurt anyone, and no one ever really noticed.

She swayed her hips to the beat of the music, spinning on her heels dramatically and using the spine of the book as a microphone as she sang into it. She jumped, letting out a high pitched squeak when she wound up facing the door, being met with amused mocha eyes.

Nicole was leaning against the doorframe, her eyes sparkling and her lip quirking into a smirk as she watched the girl.

“H-how long have you been standing there?” Waverly stuttered out in surprise, her heart still hammering in her chest from the scare as she ripped out her earbuds.

Nicole chuckled.

“Calm down, Olivia Rodrigo, I’ve only been here for like, a minute.”

Waverly let out a breath, her shoulders slumping as she finally calmed enough to control her breathing. “Not cool, you dick,” Waverly mumbled with a dramatic pout.

Nicole walked over to her, a wide grin on her face as she wrapped her arms around her waist, pulling her into her front. “I’m sorry, baby, it was just so adorable!”

Waverly rolled her eyes. “Yeah, yeah, yeah,” she said in faux annoyance, before finally softening and wrapping her arms around the redhead’s neck, dropping the book to the floor. “Hi sweetie pie,” she said sweetly.

“Hi,” Nicole greeted quietly, leaning down to brush the tip of her nose along the bridge of Waverly’s. Waverly tilted her head up, connecting their lips in a soft, sweet kiss.

She would never get tired of this feeling. The pure euphoria that washed over her every time she was with Nicole. Every time their lips met, or their arms brushed, or frankly any sort of contact.

And now, they lived together. Every night, they would get to fall asleep in each other’s arms. Every night, Nicole would get to be the last thing she saw, and the first thing she would wake up to.

To say Waverly was excited would be understatement of the year.

Nicole pulled away, her smile only widening when their eyes locked, and Waverly couldn’t stop her own grin from growing at the adoration and happiness in mocha eyes. The kind of look that felt like it was only reserved for her.

It made her knees weak, and her heart soar. Nobody ever looked at her the way Nicole did.

“Whatcha doin’?” Nicole asked brightly, stepping away from Waverly’s space so the brunette could resume her task.

Waverly sighed at the loss, but bent down to pick up the dropped book with a beaming grin on her face nonetheless. “I’m putting all the books away,” she answered simply, turning her back to the redhead as she analyzed the shelf and where this book should go.

“Are you… putting them in alphabetical order?” Nicole asked from behind her in obvious amusement.

Waverly scoffed. “No.” She could feel Nicole’s eyes on her, practically boring into the back of her head. She could basically see the raised eyebrow of disbelief, and Waverly refused to turn around and meet her eyes. “...I’m arranging them by color.”

Waverly waited through the silence, her cheeks flaming red at her admission. Sure, it wasn’t that big of a deal, but it was geeky and weird and she didn’t want Nicole to possibly judge her.

When the silence went on for longer than she had anticipated, Waverly slowly turned, her eyes hesitant as they met Nicole’s. There was something… different in the mocha eyes she loved so much, and she couldn’t place it. They were somehow softer than she had ever seen them, and they shined with a kind of love and adoration and awe that just felt like more.

“God, I love you,” Nicole breathed out, almost as if she couldn’t stop the words from escaping her lips. Waverly’s eyes widened in shock, a soft gasp falling from her lips. Wide hazel eyes stayed locked with soft, loving brown, and Waverly’s heart beat faster in her chest.

That wasn’t what she had been expecting.

“What… what did you just say?”

Nicole smiled, her dimples popping full force as she took small steps towards the brunette. “I said that I love you, Waverly Earp,” she responded confidently, her grin somehow growing even larger after saying it the second time.

Waverly was speechless. She hadn’t been expecting the words in the slightest. She had known Nicole had felt them, sure, but she had never said them. She had always said she wasn’t ready, and Waverly was fine with that. She knew how the redhead felt about her, she didn’t need some words to prove it.

Still, they felt nice to hear. Actually, nice wasn’t the right word. They felt incredible to hear.

Waverly’s eyes fluttered closed, a small smile forming on her lips as butterflies erupted in her stomach. “I thought you weren’t ready for that step in our relationship, Haught?” she teased.

Nicole chuckled, her hand brushing against Waverly’s. Waverly intertwined their fingers instantly, her eyes opening to look up at the taller girl, who was suddenly much closer than before. Her eyes were serious, and they were loving, and everything about them screamed her all out devotion for Waverly.

“I… I wasn’t,” she admitted, a blush rising up her neck and a shy, bashful smile on her lips. “But then I talked to your sister.”

“God, you guys are like, best friends now,” Waverly snorted.

Nicole narrowed her eyes. “Look, Wynonna and I really bonded the other night, okay?”

Waverly quirked an eyebrow in amusement. “You guys shared a burrito, Nicole. That’s not that big of a deal.”

“Woah, woah, woah,” Nicole said defensively, putting a hand up between them to stop the blasphemy coming out of her girlfriend’s mouth. “It wasn’t just a burrito, babe. It was a testament to our newly forged best friendship," Nicole spoke, as if it were obvious.

Waverly rolled her eyes. “You two are absolutely ridiculous.”

“You know how Wynonna is with food, Wave. Does she ever share?” the redhead pointed out with a raised eyebrow.

Waverly’s shoulders dropped slightly in defeat. “...okay, fine. Maybe it was a big deal,” she mumbled.

Nicole snorted. “Yeah, that’s what I thought. But hey, that wasn’t the point,” she chastised, giving the brunette a look for interrupting. Waverly put her hands up in surrender, a playful smile on her lips as she let Nicole continue. “The point is that I love you, and I was an idiot for waiting so long to say it.”

Waverly’s eyes softened, and her hand moved up to wrap around the redhead’s neck. “You had your reasons, baby, whatever they were. It’s okay-”

“No, it’s not okay, Waverly,” Nicole insisted, her voice relaying that same sense of urgency and seriousness from earlier. “It’s not okay, because you deserve the world, Waverly Earp. You deserve to know how loved and cherished and fucking amazing you are, and I was being a bad girlfriend by not-”

“Stop, no,” Waverly interrupted, her hand tightening in Nicole’s. “Nicole Haught, don’t you dare finish that sentence. You are not a bad girlfriend, nor were you ever.” Waverly slid her hand around to tilt Nicole’s chin down, making sure the redhead was looking right into her eyes. “You had your reasons. I would never force you into something you weren’t ready for. You said it when you were ready, and that’s all that I care about,” Waverly said with conviction, her eyes piercing into Nicole’s as she spoke.

Nicole let out a soft sigh. “That’s just it, Waverly. I didn’t wait until I was ready. It hasn’t been about that in a long time,” she admitted.

Waverly furrowed her brow. “What do you mean?”

“When you first told me you loved me, I was terrified. I had known that I had been in love with you for so long, but for some reason I just couldn’t get the words to come out. Back then, it had been about childhood trauma and being burned by the people I had loved at a young age. But then… then I got over that, thanks to you. And I knew I was finally able to say it and I… I didn’t.”

Waverly’s mind reeled, and she tried her best to comprehend the words coming out of her girlfriend’s mouth, but for some reason she couldn’t. She couldn’t quite understand where Nicole’s head was at, and she couldn’t decipher the worried look in her eyes.

“I- I don’t think I understand.”

Nicole’s eyebrow furrowed slightly, and she let out a strained laugh. “I think that’s because I’m doing a shit job at explaining.”

Nicole tugged on Waverly’s hand, lightly pulling her over to sit with her against the wall. Once Waverly was on the floor, she leaned her side against the wall to better face the redhead, and Nicole did the same.

“I kept waiting to tell you until the right time. For some reason, I had been so caught up in you, that I felt like there was never the perfect moment. I wanted to tell you, I did, but I needed the moment to be just right.”

Waverly let out a soft chuckle. “And me color-coding my books was that ‘perfect moment’ you were waiting for?”

Nicole snorted.

“Baby, that’s the point. Yes, it was. And you know why?”

Waverly shook her head slowly, her brain working to sort out the puzzle of Nicole’s words but ultimately failing.

This would be a lot easier if her girlfriend didn’t talk in fucking riddles sometimes.

Even if sometimes, Waverly did find it quite adorable. Kind of like now.

“It’s because it just proved to me what I’ve known all along. Waverly, every single moment I spend with you is perfect, that’s why I haven’t been able to find the right one all this time. Because although each moment we spend together is different, and special, and unique, they all share something in common. They’re all perfect because we’re together. And that’s what matters, Waverly. You and me.”

Waverly’s breath hitched, and tears began to shine in her eyes as she looked at the girl that she was completely and utterly in love with. Because as much of a dork that Nicole Haught was, she was the best person Waverly knew. She was loyal, smart, funny, a hopeless romantic, and absolutely undeniably Waverly’s soulmate.

“And do you know what that means?” Nicole continued pointedly, her voice boarding on teasing as she stroked her thumb over Waverly’s hand.

“Stop talking in riddles and just keep saying sweet things to me,” Waverly said with a watery chuckle, the tears in her eyes threatening to spill over the more she thought over Nicole’s words.

Nicole smiled, bringing her hand up to brush away one of the fallen tears on Waverly’s cheek. “It means every chance I have to tell you I love you is the perfect chance. The perfect moment.”

“Fuck, you’re so hot,” Waverly breathed.

Nicole laughed loudly, shaking her head lovingly at the ridiculous comment that fell out of Waverly’s mouth. “Is that really the first thing that popped in your head after I just poured my heart out to you?” she asked in amusement.

Waverly shrugged unapologetically. “A woman’s got needs, and you sound like a sexy poet sent from god. Sue me.”

Nicole chuckled again, before her face sobered again. She looked into Waverly’s eyes, and it was clear from her expression that she was about to be vulnerable. That she was about to say things that were going to make the tears well in Waverly’s eyes again.

“Waverly… all of my life, all I’ve wanted was a home. I spent years telling myself that if I just kept my head down, got good grades, and worked my ass off, I would be able to find a place for myself, and make it my home. That was the only goal I ever had.”

Nicole took in a shaky breath, her eyes misting as she looked up at the ceiling to gain her composure. Waverly wanted to comfort her. She wanted to step in and tell Nicole that they didn’t have to do this. They didn’t have to talk about this if Nicole wasn’t ready and couldn’t handle it. But Waverly had a feeling that Nicole needed this. That she needed to get this out there somehow.

So instead, Waverly trailed her thumb over Nicole’s hand lightly, tracing small, soothing patterns on the skin while she waited for Nicole to continue.

Nicole looked back at her, offering her a thankful smile before clearing her throat. “You… well… you really fucked up that plan for me,” she chuckled softly.

Waverly furrowed her brow, her anxiety and worry beginning to surface. Nicole seemed to notice the shift, because she quickly continued.

“You fucked that plan up for me, because then I fell in love with you. And suddenly, I didn’t only need a home anymore, I needed you.”

Waverly smiled, her heart racing at the sincerity behind the soft words. Her hand came up to rest on Nicole’s cheek, her fingers brushing just below the redhead’s beauty mark beneath her eye. “Baby…”

“But then,” Nicole continued, looking at Waverly pointedly, silently telling her she wasn’t finished. Waverly snapped her jaw shut, looking at her girlfriend apologetically for interrupting again. Nicole smiled back in thanks before continuing. “You found a way to do something I never thought would be possible. You gave me both the things I needed, in the most unconventional of ways.”

Waverly smiled bashfully, her head ducking slightly under the subtle praise. “Well, technically the homestead was Wynonna’s idea. I just invited you to come with us.”

Nicole shook her head quickly, as if Waverly was missing the whole point. “No, Wave, I’m not talking about the homestead. It’s where I live now, yes, but it’s not my home.”

Waverly raised an eyebrow in confusion, her mind not able to catch up with the redhead’s words.

Nicole offered the brunette a soft, shy smile.

“You are,” she said simply, her voice barely above a whisper.

Waverly looked up at the redhead through her lashes, her smile widening at the unexpected confession. “What?”

“You… you came into my life, Waverly, and you completely turned it upside down, but in the best way possible. You made home a person, not a place for me. And now… now I actually feel like I belong somewhere… and that somewhere is with you. When you offered for me to move in here with you, I knew deep down it was a no brainer,” Nicole admitted, shrugging bashfully as she looked at the brunette. “Of course I was going to follow you here. You’re my home. Where you go, I go, baby.”

Waverly huffed out an incredulous laugh, her eyes shining with a love and awe for the redhead in front of her. She couldn’t stop herself. Whatever words she would have come up with wouldn’t have done her feelings justice anyways. She launched herself into Nicole’s arms, wrapping her arms tight around her neck and crashing their lips together in a desperate kiss.

She wasn’t good with words like Nicole was. Nicole always knew just what to say, but Waverly wasn’t like that. However Waverly could express her emotions this way. She could show Nicole exactly how much her words had meant to her with her lips, and her touch, but her words never seemed to quite measure up.

Nicole smiled into the kiss, her arms wrapping just as tight around Waverly’s middle as she held the brunette close. Waverly knew then that Nicole had gotten the message she had been hoping to convey. They were on the same page here.

They always were these days.

Waverly laughed against Nicole’s lips, her joy and excitement unable to stay contained as she pushed herself impossibly further into Nicole, and the redhead had to visibly fight to stay upright as she laughed too.

“Oi! I can’t even leave you two alone for one simple job without you guys running off to makeout city,” Wynonna complained from the doorway, causing the two girls to jump apart.

Nicole straightened her clothing, even though her shirt really wasn’t that disheveled.

Waverly smirked.

“Well if you hadn’t of interrupted, we probably would have left make out city and gone to-”

“Nope! Don’t even think about it, not a word out of you,” Wynonna interrupted, plugging her ears dramatically as she leaned against the wall.

Nicole reached over into one of the boxes beside her and threw one of Waverly’s shoes at her. “What do you want, Earp?”

Wynonna rolled her eyes. “If you two hadn’t been up here getting busy you probably would have heard the loud ass thunder. It’s about to rain, and I don’t think you want your shit getting soaked. Help me bring it all in, losers, otherwise all your sex toys are gonna get wet.”

Wynonna turned around, stomping loudly down the stairs to cement her point.

“Isn’t that kind of the whole point?” Waverly yelled after her. She heard her sister groan in disgust, and Nicole burst into laughter beside her.

Damn, Waverly really had been spending too much time around her sister.

She sighed, pushing up to stand and holding out a hand for Nicole to help her up. Nicole grabbed it, pulling herself up and shooting the brunette a thankful smile.

Waverly turned to face the redhead fully, brushing her hands on the sides of her jeans. “Well, what do you say? We bring in the rest of our stuff and finish getting everything set up?”

Nicole smirked, a playful, cocky glint in her eyes as she wrapped an arm around Waverly’s waist and tugged her into her front.

“How about…” Nicole suggested lowly in Waverly’s ear, her voice husky and just boarding on teasing, exactly the way that got Waverly way too worked up to be considered legal. “We bring up the rest of our stuff, and then we break in our new bed…” she murmured, nipping lightly at Waverly’s earlobe.

Waverly shuddered involuntarily, her head nodded fervently before she could even process Nicole’s words fully.

Before she knew it, she was no longer in Nicole’s arms, and Nicole was standing in the doorway, looking back at her with a shit eating grin.

“Race ya,” Nicole said, shooting the brunette a quick wink before sprinting down the stairs.

Waverly laughed loudly, and she shook her head in amusement at her girlfriend’s antics. Nicole was still a giant child sometimes, but she never failed to make Waverly swoon, even in the most abstract of ways like this.

Waverly looked around the room, their room, and all the things they still had to work on. She also took note of all of the things they had finished the night before, taking note of the broken down bed frame against the wall, the bookshelf with half of the space taken up, and the pictures that were hanging on the walls and sitting on dressers.

She couldn’t believe this was their life now, but she was pretty damned stoked to see what was next for them.

She eyed the bed frame one last time, quirking an eyebrow as she thought to herself.

Maybe once they brought everything up and assembled the last of their things, they deserved a quick break.
