Chapter Text

Absently picking the skin around your fingers, you waited for the nurse to come back. Wanting desperately to go home and sleep for a week after last night. The sun was resting over the skyline, bright and warm, though sitting in your hospital room damped any warmth that came through. Aizawa and Yamada refused to leave your side after the car ride, even with the eight-hour wait at the emergency room, taking turns grilling you on what happened. Why were you there? How did you hide from a man who leaves only ashes in his wake? Why did he spare you? You knew flat-out lying would get you nowhere with Aizawa, but twisting the truth would at least get them off your back.
"I was responding to the roll over call with 2 other support heroes, their quirks had a lot more mobility than me so I told them to go ahead. I didn't realize the accident was villain caused or I would've told them to stay with me." Pulling out your phone, you showed them the last ping you had,
*ROLL OVER IN EAST BOUND LANE - 3 VEHICLES INVOLVED - 2 TRAPPED - RESPOND IMMEDIATELY*
Yamada grabbed the phone out of your hand and scanned the text over and over while Aizawa signaled to continue,
"I hid in a pile of old crates, he was still looking for me when I heard someone yelling for him to fall back before you guys came along. So I guess you two scared them off."
the dark-haired teacher was about to speak before he was pushed to the side,
"Why do they leave out the most important information on this shit? You could've been killed! I'm gonna have a word with the agency about warnings from now on." Fuming, He crossed his arms and tried his best not to grind his teeth. Aizawa's eyes narrowed at his friend before sighing heavily, "Kid, I'm glad you took your training seriously and you made it out all right." This stopped Yamada's pouting, he instead rested his hand on your shoulder and smiled genuinely "You can say that again, we're just glad you're ok."
Your fingers touched your arm gently, the gauze already feeling uncomfortable, "I had great teachers." You didn't look at them, facing the men who trained you was torture but not seeing Dabi again would feel like death. Yamada jumped up, "Did you at least get a good hit on the guy?! I wanna know if he tasted that famous right hook," A smile crept up and you had to hold back a laugh as Yamada did his best shadow boxing.

They finally discharged you after being questioned on the incident, the officers thanking you for your service and being on their way. Finally arriving home, taking off your boots felt like heaven, and the utility belt was next. Stopping at the shrine by the door, you thanked your mother for returning you home safely, placing a small kiss on her picture. You set her back down next to a rare picture of a preteen Touya smiling. Leaning back on your couch, sighing deeply, and closing your eyes in contentment when the AC kicked on. Being a support hero was never glamorous but had the most wholesome reward though they were few and far between. It wasn't for the faint of heart, even still, your nerves were shot. Eight hours was still not enough time to process that he was alive, really alive. Your eyes snapped open, 'How am I going to find him again?! It's not like we exchanged numbers! How the hell could I be so stupid, I lost him again!' Tears threatened to spill as your head fell to your hands.

Sniffling, you straightened, head snapping toward the patio door.
*click click*
You watched as a few pebbles smacked lightly against the glass and fell, cautiously toeing towards the door. before you could open it, a bushy head of black hair peeked over the fence, bright blue eyes gleaming in the dark.
Caution to the wind you flung the door open and motioned him to come in before he was spotted. Hopping the fence with ease he slid in and shut the door, making sure the curtains were fully closed.
"What the hell are you doing here, do you know how many patrols go through this area?! You're going to get yourself cau-!" He hugged you tightly before you could finish. Without your adrenaline pumping, you could finally take him in, amber, ash, and leather filled your nose as it rested in the crook of his neck and the feeling of his scarred cheek was rough but not unpleasant. Giving up on trying to lecture a grown man, you gave in and held him, moving your hand to run along his back trying your best to soothe him.
His hold loosened slightly, releasing you only enough to look into your eyes, his face twisted with regret "I know, I'm a fucking idiot for following you home but I couldn't let you disappear" His voice full of purpose and anguish, "not again" Losing you hurt him just as much it did you. The tears were streaming down your face now, though you smiled, the weight of the night fell as you slumped back into his embrace.
"I promise, as long as I have life left in me, I'm not letting you go anywhere anytime soon." sniffling through your words, you grabbed fistfuls of his jacket and buried your face in his chest as his hand came to rest on the back of your head, "Good, because now you're stuck with me" he chuckled, rasping a sigh, his hand fell to your hip, stepping back to lean his face close to yours "Think you can handle it, little hero" he smirked, booping your nose and waited for the pout that always followed. It took you a second to reel yourself back in, fighting the blush back down and surprising Dabi. Dawning a smirk of your own, you gently cupped his chin and forced him to look at you, tilting your head as his eyes went wide "Only if you promise to behave~"

Notes:

Thank you guys so much for reading, it's been a minute so my writing style might have changed a bit and I might just need to find someone to proofread these for me but nevertheless, I hope you enjoyed :)

Notes:

Soft Dabi is uwu I like to think once you get under his skin, Dabi is a sweet punk boy who just wants to be accepted. If this gets enough feedback I might continue, I have all sorts of ideas but I really don't want to throw them at empty space ya know? anyway thanks for reading! <3
