“I’ll be there,” Gus promises. Again, he rakes her with that nakedly appreciative look that makes her belly clench. “Although, for tonight I was thinking about more than just a chat, Miss Mag’nesson.”
Oh. Well, maybe he is here to proposition her.
There is a part of her that really wants to accept. He’s a good two feet taller than her and broad as a battleaxe and handsome in that way that’s not too handsome, that says he does something with his life that’s not just for looks.
“You just got poisoned,” Murray protests. “You nearly died.”
King Gus laughs at that. His laugh is rich and spontaneous and from the belly. “This is how I know you haven’t been on a battlefield, Ms. Mag’nesson.”
Murray wrinkles her nose. “The hell’s that supposed to mean?”
“I mean,” King Gus says, “that if you’d been on the battlefield, you’d know– that right after you nearly die is the best time to fuck like rabbits. Helps you remember you’re alive, you know.”

Mary does perhaps the most horrid thing she's ever done, which leads Matthew on a path of self discovery and trying something new in the bedroom.
“I know,” Mary says, smiling with absolutely overwhelming fondness at him. She rubs her hand over Matthew's palm, her fingers slow and gentle. Mary is not demonstrative with her words but she never hesitates to show how much she loves him. “Anyways, I think we should try it.”
“What?”
Matthew’s mouth drops open and the word comes out in a strangled breath. For a second he cannot form coherent thoughts. Of all the things Mary might say, that was absolutely the last thing he expected.
Mary gives him an askance look that says keep up, darling. “You want to take me over your knee and punish me like the spoiled girl I am. I want you to do it.”
