They'd gotten back from that first trip to Hamburg, Christ, might've been to the day. He'd gotten Paul on his knees like this in his little bed in Forthlin, just to really hammer in the fact that Paul had chosen him, Paul was his from then on.
That hadn't lasted long, when he'd become Jane's and the world's and then Linda's. But he was always his first, he's always his even when they're an ocean apart and haven't so much as sent a friendly post card in months. And that's something, it's got to be.

Summary
Paul never worked up the courage to tell John what he had seen the night he tripped. Whenever he thought about it, he saw the images burned into his mind and he lost his nerve. How could he ever speak about something so awful? It was like asking his parents what living through the war was like.
After a bad acid trip, Paul gives into John's request for exclusivity, but keeping his motivations a secret blows up in his face.
