Summary
Oh how quickly the seconds fall through Vaggi's fingers. A part of her always expected it to end this way. Had prepared for it. She still grieves, not for herself (who would ever mourn an exorcist?), but for the woman she leaves behind, and the one she takes with her.
Two minutes, might as well be forever.
4am. How many hours Charlie has tossed and turned, unable to sleep in a cold and empty bed, far too big for one person.
Half a day by car. Two days by rail. Another day on a borrowed quad bike. Five days by foot. Some things are best left forgotten.
Weeks had gone by. Little by little, day by day, she improved. She ventured further from the safety of the penthouse. In the back of her mind, a voice grows louder. Until she can no longer ignore it.
Months had passed - almost a year, since the incident. Tearful, sleepless nights. Conversations, awkward and painful, but necessary. Grudging compromise gave way to a fragile trust; old bonds reforged and new bonds brought to life.
