Summary
A bitter fight with Mike Wheeler leaves Will Byers heartbroken for the millionth time. However, a fateful encounter with cheer captain and queen bee Chrissy Cunningham changes everything. Summary
Mike recalls the brief interaction he had this morning in the hallway for perhaps the hundredth time. Maybe his friends can help. Help with what exactly, Mike doesn’t know— but something has been bugging him and he needs to get to the bottom of it.
“Hey, do you guys know that kid that wears all black? Chain belt? Eyeliner?”
“The gay kid?” Dustin supplies.
Oh, that’s right. Mike knew he had heard about him somewhere. He’s kind of famous around school. Well, him and his boyfriend. Even with it being 2006, they’re still the only openly gay people at the school.
Mike nods. “Yeah, I guess. I ran into him this morning. Literally, like we collided.”

Mike has a run-in with Will Byers, the school’s so-called “gay kid”. He takes it upon himself to befriend him, and quickly learns about Will’s relationship troubles with his boyfriend Matt. Along the way, Mike struggles with his identity, and Will struggles with his self-worth.

It was hot.
Will was sitting in front of the door, nervously shaking his right leg while sweat ran down his forehead. His arms were wrapped around his legs, and he was biting his lower lip with his left hand. With his right hand, he was flipping his phone over and over.
The house door opened.
His father came out holding a beer.
“Still hasn’t called?” he asked.Will didn’t look at him.
“They’re happy with their new families, William,” Lonnie muttered and walked toward his car.
At that moment, the phone rang.
Jonathan was calling.

You two have been joined at the hip since you were kids.” He took in a sharp inhale, Will could tell she was holding back her words.
“I know you might think it’s crazy, Will. But you have to consider if Mike is.. just your Mike. Just think about it, okay Byers?”
Or, the party(and its extended members) gearing up to face the Mind Flayer and finally eliminate Vecna, but Will Byers and his unsevered connection to the hivemind and arguably unsevered feelings for Mike Wheeler complicate everything.
