If only Pumpkin was better at hiding, or Peridot was worse at finding her, or she was able to shove the pumpkin-dog back into the rows of crops and keep bluffing, an, oh, Lapis, we can’t leave without Pumpkin, and Pumpkin could live in the crops and then they wouldn’t ever have to leave.
(But she wasn’t ever enough for Lapis, was she?)

Summary
A very long time ago, when there was no after the war because such a thing seemed to us like an impossibility that would never come to pass, Rachel told me when I die, I want to go out as a grizzly.
But she didn't, and instead she left me alone, to try and figure out where I fit into everything: into a world where everybody else went home, but I never did.
Why didn't I just go home?
(Or: after Rachel's death, Tobias meets a Yeerk nothlit, and doesn't know where to go from there.)

Summary
Chara is a Yeerk trying to survive the invasion of Earth, with aspirations of being a caretaker that were never fulfilled, and so instead xe has been assigned a human child as a host. Out in the world under the ever-pressing eye of the Empire, and with a best friend involved in the Peace Movement, Chara isn't exactly sure how xe's going to get out of this one.
But then again, it's not like any of the Yeerks were going to make it out alive, so. Maybe xe can keep something else safe.

Summary
There's a cycle to the life of a Darkner.
They're born, and from whatever hopes-and-dreams cobbled them together they get a role, static and unchanging. They play their role good, until they aren't needed anymore and are left forgotten, like all things that are outgrown. They don't want things beyond what they were made for, because they are not people: they are Darkners. They do not want.
Ralsei can't stop herself from wanting, anyways.

Summary
Dess is dead, until she isn't. Kris is a coyote, until they aren't.
The Holiday-Dreemurr kids are back together again, except the easy days of their childhoods are long gone and maybe never existed. Kris is left to figure out where they stand in this new world, where their only solid ground is this: that Dess has seen them for who they really are inside, something that snarls as it creeps along the streets, killing cats and attacking children. They're Kris-the-coyote but they're Kris-that-Dess-sees and Kris-that-Dess-misses and Kris-that-Asriel-wants and thousands upon thousands of people, and they can try hard as they want but the fact of the matter is, they're the one who's tricked everyone. Because Kris is wrong down to the very core: a coyote in the body of a human who wants, more than anything else, to be a monster.
But for some reason they're still here. So that has to count for something, right?
(or: a story about trauma, how people who love each other can hurt each other, and how to heal, despite that.)

Summary
Four days ago, Kris and Dess fought in the hallway in front of the doors to Castle Town. Fought as if it were a matter of life-or-death. Fought as if only one of them would make it out alive.
Maybe it was, and maybe they were right.
All Noelle knows is that she has quite a few thoughts on the whole matter she'd like to figure out.

Summary
Chara's brother is dead, and has been dead since he betrayed them on that fateful night, dooming xir death to be entirely for nothing. But now xe is on the surface, a tag-along in Frisk's body, and there is a particular golden flower that keeps trying to speak with xir, as though he has any right to parade around the surface he failed to give the monsters.
Frisk, it appears, is friends with the flower.
Chara refuses to let that stand.
(or: traumatized kids trying their best.)

Summary
Ralsei knew Kris for what amounted to a day, scattered hours across maybe two or three of them. He knew that going in, of course. The prophecy is so ingrained in his mind it might as well be scrawled across his arm: a human, a monster, and a prince from the dark. They were always going to need a human, so he closed his eyes, breathed, and told himself, that’s all it is.
(He's not sure how anybody could ever mistake Kris for a human.)

Summary
Someone with multiple daemons is called a cast, in the plural, as in, how are you and your cast doing? Sometimes two people are so close that they, too, are a cast—so close it's hard to tell which human belongs to which daemon, which daemon to which human.
For the first 11 years of their life, Fia and Irina were a cast. But then Fia took Irina's place, and maybe her daemon, too, and she's not sure what that makes them. But what she does know is this: she will hurt, and keep pushing on, to keep Irina safe, wherever she might be.

Summary
Kris is a coyote in the body of a human who wants, more than anything else, to be a monster. That's not a problem they can easily solve, but when they discover a postcard from thought-dead-Dess, proving that she's not as dead as they might think...maybe they can at least fix this.

Summary
Kris is the only human in Hometown.
Except that's not true, is it? Because Dess is a human, too, and if Kris can look at Dess and known with every part of their self that Dess is a monster...
Maybe Kris can be one, too.
(or: Kris has someone in their corner. This changes things, and not just for the good.)

He is. He's their boyfriend. They're dating, and in love, and if he keeps thinking there's something—
Well. There's nothing wrong. But if there was, it would be with him. Not Kris.
Never Kris.

Summary
“So humans have these things called soulmarks,” Kris says.
“…soulmarks?” Ralsei asks.
Kris nods. “Soulmarks. The ‘first words your soulmate says to you,’ or something really fucking stupid like that, burned on your arm since birth. Monsters are normal. They don’t have that. They just—love people. But humans are so fucked they need a brand to tell them who to love.”
Ralsei frowns. “I’m—confused. Isn’t that…a good thing? Soulmates, I mean. To just—know who you’re going to love.” Ralsei’s known since before he can remember that he was going to meet the Heroes, that he was going to love them. And it was true! He wouldn’t give up Kris and Susie for anything. He’s not sure he’d be here, if he never had that fact to hold onto.
But Kris is glaring at him, and he cannot speak those final words aloud.
(or: Ralsei discovers a soulmate, a gender, and maybe, just maybe, a happy ending.)

“I’m just—playing my part,” Ralsei says.
Susie gnaws at her cotton candy. “Maybe play a different part, then.”
“Susie.” Susie doesn’t respond to his incredulous tone. “You can’t just do that.”
Susie shrugs. “Why not?”

Summary
One day you were jumping out from under the bed, and your horns caught on the edge of it, and you felt it like they were a part of your body, like tugging on them would send you stumbling sideways as your head throbbed. But then you grew up, and you could not move, even as your legs walked and your mouth talked and your heart curdled in your chest like something dead.
(If you're just a heart on a chain, how do any of your choices matter?)
