“I gotta light right over here,” comes a rough voice, near the doorway. They walk towards him steadily, but their voice is still rather loud. “Let me help you out.”
Rosinante turns to look. Eustass “Captain” Kid is standing next to his barstool.
The lighter Kid holds out to him is engraved with a gear and two glossy black lines on either side. Kid doesn’t look like a smoker.
He holds out a cigarette and smiles lightly when the pirate shifts the metal without touching it.
“Neat trick. Aren’t you thoughtful?”
Contrary to the posturing he’d expected from a supernova captain, Kid’s whole face goes as red as his hair. Oh dear, he thinks.

Law went still, and felt a cold curl rush through him. He didn’t want to talk about it. Cora wouldn’t get it. Hadn’t even seen what he was really asking.
“When it’s all done,” he continued, firmly and quietly, “and we’re safe, I know what I’d like to try.”
Law felt the fear melt, just at the edges, into exhaustion. Maybe Cora thought he was sleeping, or something stupid. His fist loosened around a handful of feathers.

Geralt narrows his eyes, hums, says, “Fine with just the coin.”
“I promise you would not be disappointed. You’d have all the amenities. A bath, food, lodgings for the evening. And of course the company of whichever individual you might desire.”
Geralt almost says no. It would be so much effort, to go to the brothel, to have someone picked out for him, to do the song and dance of what everyone always expects from him. But the free food and bath is enticing, and he’d be a fucking idiot to turn down a free fuck. “Sure,” he mutters. “So long as it’s free.”
