Summary
Joyce can’t quite believe what she’s considering as she looks down at the joint she’s found among her couch cushions while giving them a plump. Her first thought should have been to throw it in the bin, and her second should have been to call up the mothers of all the children she’d just had gathered in her living room so they could find out who the culprit was. It was in the code of motherhood or something, that you let your kids’ friends’ parents know when they were doing drugs.
It was not in the code to never mention the incident. But even though she doesn’t want to make assumptions, she thinks it was probably Steve’s joint, and Steve really doesn’t need more problems with his parents at the moment (though, she might have a little talk with him soon). And besides, it’s only weed. Better that than the kids sneaking around drinking.
But the real reason she’s thinking of violating the code of motherhood is to violate the code of life by calling up the Police Chief to invite him round for a joint.
