Summary

City lights flicker weakly in the distance, like brushstrokes in the background of a painting, highlighting the main subject that sits in the darkness with a pained look in his eyes, the untold kind of pain.
“This is what it’s like to assume your past experiences prepare you for the future. It’s nothing but an illusion.”
Minho’s throat feels clogged up now, no words making it past his lips. There’s pain in his own lungs, taking up the space of all the air. And he wishes he can escape the feeling, but Jisung, for the first time, doesn’t look away from him as he talks, doesn’t try to hide the weight of his words or mask it behind an attempt at humor.
“Minho-ssi,” he near whispers, “do you know how I got injured?”

Summary
Han Jisung lives with a ghost.
He knows he’s there, can sense his presence in the empty takeout containers left by the sink, the extra pairs of shoes in the entryway, and the smell of his cologne that sticks around the apartment and never seems to go away. They share the rent and the space but nothing more, nothing between them but superficial friendship, the forced camaraderie of being roommates. For a while, Jisung was happy with just that.
Until the day when curiosity got the better of him and he just had to know more, and he started to piece together the island within an island that was Lee Minho.

He squirms in his seat and Chan, his nametag confirms, places a warm croissant in front of him. “Oh, I didn’t order anything.”
“I know. Consider it an apology for Minho. He’s a little too straightforward sometimes.”
“It’s okay. I don’t mind; I actually really like that.” Jisung blurts it out before he can think better of it. Warmth crawls up his neck and he quickly looks away when Minho raises an eyebrow.
