Summary
Whizzer Brown is the top of Lakeview High when it comes to playing tennis. When he’s on the court, he’s serving good looks AND the ball (flawlessly, he’d say). The team look up to him as this gorgeous, perfect player and he sees himself as nothing less. However, things get muddy when tennis season rolls around during his twelfth grade year. Marvin Gardens is the top of his school, Pinewood Private Highschool. He feels not much love for the sport, and only strives for the temporary joy he gets by winning a match. Pinewood Private used to only play other private schools, but to improve its reputation after a scandal, chooses opens up to playing against public schools now, too. Pinewood Private believes these matches with public schools to be free wins. This is the sole event that causes Whizzer and Marvin’s lives to clash. When the two have to deal with and play against each other for a whole season, it’s clear senior year won’t be easy. Will Whizzer and Marvin forever fuel their rivarly? Or will they find out they may love more than just the game?

“You’re all right,” Frank reassured him. “I had brain worms to begin with.”
Gerard laughed so hard, Frank felt kind of proud of himself. “I know,” he gasped, wheezing for air. Strands of black-and-teal hair flopped into his face as he gripped the edge of the table for support. “Shit, sorry, I just had a really vivid mental image of what your self portrait would look like.” He gave Frank a sidelong look. “Swearing is definitely okay when it’s just us, right?”
Frank tried not to think about the familiarity of the words. Just us. “Yeah, duh.” He raised an eyebrow, feeling a smile tug at his lips.

When Frank meets Gerard, a 20-year-old art prodigy-turned-TA in his senior year of high school, sparks fly as an unusual friendship is formed. They may have bonded over a mutual, hilarious hatred of Romeo and Juliet, but Frank's not laughing anymore when spring rolls around and Gerard is climbing up a rope ladder to his balcony in the middle of the night. Then Gerard quits his job, citing romantic complications, and the only thing Frank knows is that he knows nothing at all.
