The Hobi Olympics

Summary:

Jung Hoseok was the man of everyone’s dreams. He was funny, gorgeous, and had such a blinding smile, it’s only rival was the sun. Not only did he have the attractiveness of a god, his personality was constantly referred to as “boyfriend material”.

It was no wonder he attracted two fools, Park Jimin and Kim Taehyung, his way.

Chapter Text

“Why are they late?” Taehyung started, “So far Kookie’s ditching, Namjoon Hyung is taking an exam, and Yoongi Hyung already told us he had plans…” The day was going to be a simple day, the usual crew were going to hang out at the arcade, play some games, and get some food before they left. Unfortunately, three members weren’t going to show. At this rate, Jimin and Taehyung would be the only ones left, leaving them to their own little date.

Not that either of them cared.

The buzzing of a notification made Jimin immediately reach towards his phone, hoping it was any sort of response from one of his (leftover) hyungs.

“Who is it Jiminie?”

Jimin sighed, sipped on his drink, then relayed the message

From: Seokjinnie Hyung
Car broke down, can’t make it. Why today of all days? Can’t I ever catch a brake? Haha haha haha

Taehyung squinted at the message, he practically heard the infamous Seokjin laugh from whatever street his hyung was on. “Did he make a joke just now?”

With a nod from Jimin, another buzz reached the phone.

From: Seokjinnie Hyung
Seriously, my car just broke. Don’t worry though, I’ve already called a tow truck.

With quick fingers, a reply was sent. “Another man down,” Jimin chuckled. He was beginning to look forward to his date with Taehyung. “Should we go? I know a really good ice cream p-,” before Jimin had finished, Taehyung quickly grabbed his petite hand with a pout.

“Aren’t you forgetting someone? Hobi hyung hasn’t texted or called us yet.” Jimin’s expression changed at the mention of his hyung Hoseok. Taehyung was right, they couldn’t leave. Hoseok wasn’t a replacement for the whole gang, but he definitely had so much energy to be an entire group.

“Are we all gonna hold hands now, or what?” Both Jimin and Taehyung turned their heads, already aware of who the voice belonged to. It was like magic, they called his name, and there he appeared. Jimin let out a cute giggle, “We can.”

Taehyung’s eyes focused on Hoseok, admiring his features from his chair. “Give me your hand, too, hyung.” With a blinding smile, Hoseok complied, reaching out to both Jimin and Taehyung, his slender fingers mixed into theirs.

It was always like this with those three. Hoseok, Jimin, and Taehyung were all notorious as the touchy ones in their group. They liked it, too, none of them were afraid to show affection, which they all enjoyed each other’s touch. Maybe a little too much.

Lost in their own thoughts, Hoseok cleared his throat, “Ready?”

Jimin, with a dazed grin, responded first, “Ready for what?” The redhead seated across from him snickered, “Forgot what we’re here for already, huh.” Jimin eyed Tae down, before he remembered. “Ahh, right. Let’s go then?” A slight flush made its way onto the raven-hair’s cheek, only a flush that Taehyung would notice.

Taehyung stood up and stretched, smoothly placing his arms around the brunet. “Party time!” Jimin inwardly chuckled at his best friends antics. “Is it really a party if it’s just three of us?”

“Of course,” Hoseok chimed in, “We’re all going to have fun together, that counts.” How Hoseok’s soft words melted Jimin and Taehyung. The two of them tightened their grip on the sunshine and walked towards the entrance of the arcade.

Despite their other friends being gone, the threesome played and played, hours gone by. Hoseok was there, Jimin was on the other side, and Taehyung moved back and forth between machines. Before the final moments, they all gathered near the air hockey table.

“Hoseokie hyung versus Tae-Tae. Start!” Jimin called, and motioned a flag.

“Jiminie stop being cute, you’re gonna distract me from winning!” Taehyung whined. Hoseok, eyes focused, hummed loudly in agreement. Jimin sat back, and laughed at the two who were playing aggressively against each other, with over the top shouts and movements.

Eventually their time ended, and Hoseok waved goodbye, but Jimin and Taehyung accompanied him to his car, just to make sure. With a turn of keys, Hoseok was off, not before Jimin and Tae harmonized a “See you later, hyung!”

“Tae can I stay at your place today? My room is too far,” Jimin lazed into his redhead, “Also, I haven’t been there at all this week!” He huffed, before starting his stride towards Taehyung’s car.

“And who’s fault is that, Jimin?” Tae snickered, while grabbing his friend’s hand. “You know that you don’t even need to ask. Don’t you even have a pair of my keys?” Taehyung heard a bubbly laugh from behind him, and couldn’t help but roll his eyes in amusement.

The pair made it home. Without any verbal language, both knew where they were headed, to Taehyung’s soft, warm, inviting bed. “Honestly Jiminie, just move in with me already, we’re practically married.”

“I wouldn’t mind that.”

“Which one?”

“Either is a good deal,” Jimin stated before he effectively plopped onto Taehyung’s bean bag. “I’ve always wanted one of these…”

Silence filled the room, nothing was heard, but clicking of screens as two phones typed.

Taehyung wasn’t tired, to be honest. He would love to do something, but nothing immediately caught his interest. He had even searched up “good ways to spend time”. It finally hit him.

“Truth or dare?”

Jimin chuckled, peeking up at his best friend from the floor. “Are we really doing this? Tae, there’s only two of us-”

“Truth or dare, Jimin, just do it, pleeease,” Taehyung whined, the silence had finally gotten to him. He creeped over his bed, putting his hands on his face and eyed Jimin down. It was a small pout if you will, which was something Jimin couldn’t resist.

“Truth.”

The redhead smirked, it was almost what he wanted, but what he expected from Jimin nonetheless. “Oooh, he goes for truth! I wonder what secrets he’s holding up in there!”

“You of all people should know I have no secrets, especially with YOU,” Jimin emphasized, getting up from the bean bag and plopping himself onto Tae’s bed. “Try me, you probably already know the answer.”

“Hmmmmmmm….” It took him a while, but it finally clicked. Taehyung pursed his lips, wondering if he should ask or not. Jimin was right, he did know the answer, most likely anyway. Clearing his throat, he asked, “Who’re you crushing on right now?”

“Oooh! So, you don’t know,” he exhaled, falling backwards. As Jimin laid himself out, Taehyung got up, confused. “What does that mean?” Jimin closed his eyes and gave an embarrassed grin “It means I’m not obvious about it.” He felt accomplished. Nothing gets passed Tae, and it definitely doesn’t get passed him if it’s his best friend.

“I’m asking ‘cause you were totally obvious….”

Jimin shifted, genuinely curious, “So… you know it’s Hoseok hyung?” A red hue slowly faded onto Jimin’s cheeks.

“What, really!? No way! You’re crushing on him too-,” Taehyung retracted. Whoops, his tongue slipped.

Jimin gasped, “‘Too’!? Tae you didn’t tell me!”

“You didn’t tell me, either!”

“Didn’t you say it was obvious? … Come to think of it, you’re one to talk! Putting your arms all around him today,” Jimin gave a cheeky grin, which in turn made Taehyung’s cheeks burn. He brought a pillow close to his face and mumbled loud enough for Jimin to hear. “Oh don’t remind me, it happens, you know. With Hoseokie hyung it’s just so natural.”

The raven-hair squeezed his eyes and put his hand up to his heart. “Oh Tae-Tae, you make my heart hurt. That was too cute.” Taehyung smiled, grabbed another pillow, and threw it in Jimin’s face. A small silence passed through them, and they realized the whole situation. The two friends couldn’t help but laugh at each other.

“So,” Jimin started, adjusting himself onto the pillow Taehyung so graciously ‘gave’ to him, “How?”

“Isn’t it your turn to ask me truth or dare? Or is that over now?” The redhead raised his eyebrows.

Jimin giggled. “It’s over, definitely. This is more interesting, and don’t tell me it isn’t.” With those words, Taehyung chuckled in amusement.

“I’m not that good with words, you know… Hobi hyung just takes them right away from me, leaves me breathless. He makes my heart flutter, too!” With each compliment, both Taehyung and Jimin grew with excitement. “There, that’s enough, I’ll die of embarrassment if I continue!”

“My turn!” Jimin couldn’t wait, this was a great moment. Before, he hadn’t had a chance to gush over his crush to Tae. Was it better or worse that they were crushing on the same guy? Either way, Jimin continued, “Hoseokie hyung shows too much love… It drives me insane, but I crave more of it. He’s constantly texting me those kissy emoji’s and hearts. Who wouldn’t go crazy over that? … Not to mention, he’s just…” Jimin closed his eyes and gave a longing sigh, “boyfriend material.”

The redhead placed a hand on Jimin, he knew EXACTLY what he was talking about. Hoseok was the type of man you’d want to introduce to your parents, and that your parents would actually like him, too.

Jimin and Taehyung talked a while longer about Hoseok, then finally reached the point of no return.

“So are you gonna ask him out?” Jimin questioned.

“No, I thought you were.”

“What do we do?”

Taehyung thought for a moment, the lightbulb flashed in his mind. “Who says we can’t date him at the same time?” Jimin pushed his lips together, Taehyung was right, dating wasn’t limited to just one person. Though, he had one question.

“Who’s gonna make the first move?”

Another lightbulb went off.

“Get ready to send him a message.” As Taehyung reached for his phone, the raven-hair gave a puzzled look. “What are we gonna do?”

“Let Hobi hyung decide. We’re gonna message him at the same time, and whoever he responds to first gets to make the first move.” Jimin giggled, Taehyung sure had a strange way of dealing with this ‘problem’. He complied nonetheless.

“Tae, what’s his contact name in your phone?”

“HoBAE.”

“Cute.”

“What about yours?”

“Hoseokie, with a heart.”

“Oh my god, Jimin.”

“Oh my god, stop gushing. Are you ready?” Jimin laughed. “Send!”

Both Jimin and Taehyung hit the send button, and studied their phone like a study guide minutes before the most important test in history. They waited and waited, minutes seemed like hours.

A buzz came through their phones and the two yelled in unison, “He just texted me!”

The redhead and raven-haired looked at each other.

“Did he just text us at the same time?”
