Chapter Text
Summer arrived quickly; this was one of Kim Taehyung’s greatest misfortunes. The hot ball of orange in the sky people called the sun beat down on his face as he started panting. The humid and hot atmosphere was not the cause of his hyperventilation. No, something different. Something he had yet to experience until this very day. Shit, shit. Taehyung thought, grabbing at his hair and staring as the girl slowly walked away.
“S-Sir? Do you need to ambulance?” A woman stuttered, rubbing his back with worry.
Taehyung glanced at her but shook his head with no words. Ugh, she’s leaving, I have...I have to- Taehyung began running towards the lady. It has to be her. She is the reason for this. He gripped at something and looked up. There, he saw a bear with orange and blue overalls holding flyers.”W-What?” He glanced over the bear’s shoulder and watched as the blonde girl walked away as her stilettos clicked.
The person in the bear costume stripped themselves of their bear head. There, Taehyung locked eyes with a gorgeous man. He was slightly tan and his brown locks covered part of his eyes. Sweat ran down his face due to the hot day as well as the bear costume. Taehyung studied his chocolate brown eyes as he spoke. “Are you alright? Should I take you to the hospital? The man smiled sweetly, showing his bunny-like teeth. Taehyung’s heart started beating louder and louder. He could faintly remember the man’s sweet voice as the rest was a blur.
--
“...So what you’re telling me is that your heart started beating?”
Taehyung nodded. “Yes, Jin, didn’t I just say that?”
“Uh-uh-uh,” Jin said, waving his index finger. “That’s Dr. Jin to you, Mr. Kim.”
Taehyung rolled his eyes; Jin was the family doctor that has been with him for about eleven years. Taehyung visited weekly, mainly because Jin wanted to know about the gossip at his college, which Taehyung always thought was trivial. He also thinks Jin’s in love with his uncle, he didn’t know why, the only cool thing about his uncle is that he can rap and he hasn't seen him in years, but that’s besides the point.
“Hmm,” Jin started. Taehyung looked up at him. Jin grabbed his coffee that was sitting in a white mug with a pink heart on it. “You’re heart was beating. But it seems fine now, correct?” Once receiving a nod from Taehyung, he continued. “It must be love!”
The light brown haired boy looked at him with confusion written all over his face. “Wh-Jin, stop joking around.” Taehyung muttered.
Jin shook his head and placed his coffee mug down after taking a quick sip. “Oh, don’t you see! Hearts always beat when they’re around someone they like. Maybe you found the one!” Jin exclaimed, fixing the wrinkles on his pink dress shirt.
Taehyung face-palmed. “Jin, he’s a man.” Jin glared at him.
“So?” Jin asked leaning on his desk and putting his hands into his white doctor coat. Taehyung looked down while at a loss of words. “Y’know, people die when their hearts don’t beat. But you...you’re a special case.”
He grabbed his backpack. “I’m leaving Jin.”
Jin held up his hand. “Why...don’t you meet him again?”
Taehyung stared at the brunette in front of him. He breathed in. “Maybe.” He said, grabbing the doorknob and leaving.
--
After a week of Jin’s demanding, Taehyung decided to meet him. Jin planned it all. Taehyung was shocked though, he had no idea that he was the son of Jin’s friend.
Taehyung peered through the window and saw him, back facing the entrance. Taehyung took a deep breath. You got this, he assured himself. He nodded and stepped inside. It was a nice cafe that they decided to meet in. Taehyung ran a hand through his light brown hair, trying to avoid the fake glasses he wore as he studied the nice 50’s styled atmosphere. There was a red jukebox next to the white counter and he thought it looked very pretty. He made his way over and sat on the red cushion in front of him. “H-Hi.” Taehyung stuttered. Shit Taehyung pinched himself in the thigh. Quit stuttering, I swear to god.
The man in front of him looked up from his phone. His hair was covering a parts of his eyes like before. Taehyung had to stop himself from laughing. How did he not notice this before? Coconut head. Taehyung thought. “Hello.” The man sat upright respectfully. “I’m Jeon Jungkook. Nice to see you again.”
Taehyung gripped at the hem of his blue, plaid shirt. “Kim Taehyung.” Taehyung said, his voice slightly shaken from his own nerves. Jungkook held out his hand and Taehyung quickly accepted it. He stared at the other’s outfit. A white shirt, grey ripped jeans, and Timberlands branded boots. Taehyung wasn’t (completely) gay, but his appearance led Taehyung to think that he was very attractive.
The two sat in uncomfortable silence for a couple of moments before Taehyung decided to speak up. “Do you mind telling me what really happened that day? I-I um, don’t really recall.”
Jungkook shook his head. “No, no I don’t mind. So, from what I saw. You were on the ground. It looked like you were about to pass out. People rushed to you to see if you were okay. Like, they asked if you needed the hospital or anything. You seemed in pain, but you kept refusing..” He looked Taehyung straight in the eyes. “And then you grabbed onto me and pushed me over. Making me lose my flyers and then you threw up on my costume. Then I took you to the hospital where this guy with brown hair and a pink dress shirt took you off my hands.”
Taehyung looked at him in horror. “I-I did what?!” Taehyung stared at the floor before exclaiming. “I-I-I’m sorry!” as he got up and bowed.
Jungkook shook his hand, trying to make him stop before people started to stare. “No, um, there’s no need for that, it’s fine.” Jungkook assured. “I just need a new job.” Jungkook whispered as Taehyung sat back down.
Taehyung turned a light shade of pink. Half because of the story Jungkook just told and half because of what he is about to say. “Jungkook, can I tell you something?”
“Go ahead.” Jungkook replied. Taehyung looked down at his lap.
“Whenever I’m with you my heart starts beating, very, very fast and-” He looked up to see no one there, but heard the ringing of the front entrance followed by Jungkook’s fast footsteps. Taehyung ran out as well. “Jungkook!” he exclaimed. Jungkook glanced back.
“Get away from me you homo!”
“I’m not gay!” Taehyung screamed, chasing after him at a faster pace. Taehyung grabbed at Jungkook’s ankles. The both fell and Taehyung held his ankles tightly, so Jungkook could not escape. “Listen! I don’t know if you know this but I'm under specific circumstances. For 20 years my heart never beat until a few days ago. I thought this would be like one of those K-Dramas where the girl instantly falls in love with me. But you’re a guy. It must be you! You’re causing this!” Jungkook got up and sat in front of him. “Alright, so...th-that’s why I have to meet with you.”
Jungkook sighed. “I believe you. This doesn’t sound like a prank. And if it was I doubt that you’d go to the extent of chasing me. But I think you shouldn’t force an answer. It’s better if we’re apart.” Jungkook got up and put his hands into his jeans’ pockets. “I’ll be seeing you around?”
As he started to walk away he heard a loud wince in pain as he turned around and saw Taehyung curling into a ball and gripping at his heart.
“Oh n- Taehyung!” He heard Jungkook exclaim as the world went black.
