Chapter Text

"How did your date go?" Jeongguk asks as they continue to walk to Taehyung's home.

It was late. Taehyung and Jeongguk are just leaving their school from a choir meeting and then going to get dinner.

Taehyung looks at Jungkook and furrowed his brows. "The guy I went out with two weeks ago?" he chuckled, "Never called back."

"What?" Jungkook looks surprised for a second, then the look is soon replaced with a sympathy smile, "Ah, he was an ass anyways."

"What about you? How's it coming along with the ladies?" Taehyung wiggles his brows.

"Also, not so great." The younger sighs.

Taehyung ruffles Jungkook's hair, "Why not? Someone would be lucky to have an 'oppa' like you."

"Shut up, hyung." Jungkook cringes while lightly punching his friends arm.

They soon arrive at Taehyung's apartment. It's late on a Friday night, and since they're best friends anyways, Jungkook decided to stay over.

Taehyung immediately darts to the bathroom, since he's had to pee the whole walk home. Jungkook laughs to himself when he sees him running to the bathroom. He grabs them something to drink then heads to Tae's room.

He sees Taehyung's phone laying on his nightstand, right where he left it this morning. Of course, He thought to himself. He is always forgetting things. This is the second time this week that Taehyung has forgotten his phone at home.

He plops down onto Taehyung's bed and scrolls through some social medias waiting for his friend to return from the bathroom. All of the sudden, Taehyung's phone starts ringing. He doesn't know whether to answer or not. He looks at the phone, it reads "namjoon"

Namjoon.

He's heard Taehyung talk about him quite a few times. They used to be the best of friends but Taehyung said they haven't talked in a couple of months. What could he possibly want now?

In the time that Jungkook was thinking, the phone stopped. But he left a voicemail.

He heard Taehyung coming up the stairs, finally, "Hyuuung, what took you so long?"

Taehyung laughed, "What, you miss me?"

"No," Jungkook scoffed, "but someone left you a voicemail."

"What?" He walks to his nightstand.

Voicemail(1)

"You think its the guy from the date?" Taehyung grabs his phone eagerly and sat down in front of Jungkook on the bed.

"No, actually. It's that guy you used to talk to." Jungkook sits up and bites his lip.

Taehyung shoots him a confused look, and instead of asking questions he swipes the notification and listens to the voicemail.

"Taehyung!" Namjoon said excitedly.

"It's been too long! I want to talk to you. Call me anytime, 4 in the morning, whatever, I don't care. We gotta talk."

Jungkook watched him listen to the voicemail. He watched him start to smile. He was always a little jealous of Namjoon, to be honest. They were always so close. They even dated for awhile. They were closer than Taehyung and Jungkook could ever be, since he was straight and all. Its not like he wanted to be that close to Taehyung, anyways. Right? They are just best friends and that's enough for him. That's as far as it could go.

"That was my Joon." Taehyung beams. "He sounded desperate to talk to me." He chuckles and sits his phone down on the bed and traces the designs of his shirt with his finger, still smiling.

"What even happened between you two?" The younger asks.

"Ah," Taehyung starts, laying down on his side and propping is head up with his hand. "Sophomore year. We got together, but we both knew it wasn't gonna work. It was my fault."

Jungkook nods, jokingly agreeing and Taehyung slaps his arm.

"Anyways," He continues, "I worked up the nerve to break it off, and he gave me this look..." He trailed off. "And he told me, 'the worst part is that I feel like I'm losing the best friend I've ever had.' And in that moment i realized, i felt the same way.

"So.. I cried, kissed him, and we've been friends ever since. We've seen each other through everything. Break ups, family troubles, fights. We've travelled on vacation together. I've had the best times of my life with him." He says.

Jungkook has that familiar burning feeling in the pit of his chest again.

"Well, y-you think that's why he called?" He asked nervously.

Taehyung met Jeongguk's gaze, "No." he said in disbelief.

"Desperate to talk..." The younger repeated and they both smiled. "Call him back."

Taehyung hesitated. He picked the phone up and clicked Namjoon's name to call.

Jeon watches as Taehyung waited for the other man to pick up the phone. He almost doesn't want Namjoon to answer, he feels as if he will swoop back into Taehyung's life and take him away. He wants his friend to be happy, but he doesn't want to lose him.

"Taehyung!" Namjoon finally answers.

"Joon! It's been so long!" Taehyung almost squealed. "What have you been up to?" He finished and then put him on speaker phone.

"Well," Namjoon began, "Nothing much... I'm still traveling and writing! I've missed you so much... I wanted to call and see how you've been."

"Ah... I'm fine. I've missed you too, Joon. Where are you visiting now?"

"That's actually part of why I called... I'm in Seoul!" Namjoon said and Jungkook's heart dropped.

"Really, hyung? You're here? What are you doing here?" Taehyung was thrilled by the thought of meeting Namjoon again.

"Yes," Namjoon chuckles, "I wanted to see you, to talk in person."

Taehyung blushed.

"Wow... When did you want to meet?" Tae asks excitedly.

"Are you free tomorrow? We could get lunch." Namjoon says.

"Yeah! Sounds great, hyung!" Taehyung smiles brightly.

"Okay, then I'll text you. Bye!" Namjoon hangs up.

They were both silent for a moment. Jungkook looked up and saw how excited the blonde looked. For a second, he felt a twinge of guilt for ever being jealous.

"Can you believe he's here?" Taehyung broke the silence, and Jeon from his thoughts.
