Work Text:

Hizashi loves using pet names for Shouta.

Shouta doesn’t mind. He actually loves each and every single one of Hizashi’s endearments, but he would never admit that out loud to anyone aside from Hizashi himself. And, even then, it would be when Shouta was drunk or in the throes of ecstasy.

The point is, Hizashi uses pet names as often as he can. He even uses different names during different events and whether or not they were in public, which is something that Shouta greatly appreciates. However, the more private the place, the more mushy and sappy the endearments get.

In Public

Shouta and Hizashi are shopping together at Hizashi’s assistance. Shouta really should figure out how to become immune to Hizashi’s puppy dog eyes, but he guesses that every hero has their weaknesses.

“Hey, um, could you, maybe, give me your autograph, Present Mic?” A fan holds out a piece of paper and a pen towards Hizashi.

“Of course! I’m always happy to give my autograph to my fans! Hey, Shouta, dude, do you mind holding these bags for a moment while I give this lovely fan my autograph?” Hizashi asks. Shouta takes the bags without a word while Hizashi signs.

“Thank you so much!” The fan runs off.

“Thanks for holding my stuff, bro.” Hizashi takes back his stuff. “Shouta! My dude! We should totally go over to that store!”

Shouta allows himself to be dragged around the store by his husband.

At School

“Babe! I’m so tired.” Hizashi drapes himself over Shouta during their break.

“Hizashi, we’re at work.”

“Shouta, baby, some of the students are such idiots.” Hizashi complains.

“Hizashi, I need to figure out these lesson plans.”

Hizashi groans.

Over The Radio

“Hey, hey, listeners! Nice for you all to listen to me once again tonight!”

Shouta lays in bed and listens to the music Hizashi was playing that night. Almost right when he was about to fall asleep, he hears Hizashi talk again.

“We’re about to close for the night, but I have one last song to play. This one is dedicated to my Number 1 Listener! You know who you are, my favorite listener!”

As predicted, Hizashi starts playing a sappy, love song, which simultaneously made Shouta annoyingly embarrassed and a little happy.

His husband was such a sappy dork.

On A Date

Shouta and Hizashi enter a restaurant they had a reservation for, and they are guided to a private corner in the back.

Hizashi pulls out a chair and gestures for Shouta to sit there.

“Thanks.” Shouta said as he sits down.

“Anything for you, darling!” Hizashi went to go sit in the other chair. He picks up the menu and starts looking at it. “This all looks amazing! What do you think you might get, sweetheart?”

Shouta shrugs as he looks over the menu.

“Something simple, I guess.” Shouta looks towards Hizashi. “You?”

“I don’t know, dear. I think I might just ask the waiter for a recommendation and then go with that.”

Shouta nods.

“You haven’t been complaining about work in a while.” Shouta points out.

“Right you are, honey! I think one of the other students may be tutoring the others, which I’m thankful for because then I don’t have to deal with the students making dumb mistakes anymore.”

“Just wait.”

Hizashi’s face morphs into one of fear.

“No! Sugar! Don’t say that! I don’t want to talk to students or their parents when they fail my class! They’re always mad or upset!”

“I’m kidding.”

“Thank god.”

In Private

“Shouta! Muffin! Pudding pie. Pancake. Snickerdoodle. Gumdrop. My sweet, sweet jelly bean, Shouta.”

“Yes, we can get food.”

“How did you know that was what I wanted, cupcake?”

“You only use that many food related endearments when you're hungry and don’t feel like making food. I’ll call to order in.”

“You’re an angel, love.” Hizashi gushes.

Shouta busies himself by ordering the food.

The food eventually gets there, and Shouta hands one of the boxes to Hizashi.

“Thank you, my prince.” Hizashi says.

“You’re sappy.” Shouta responds.

“You love it, starlight.”

Shouta doesn’t respond other than a small smile.

+1

Hizashi and Shouta were cuddling on the couch and winding down after a long day.

Shouta was thinking about all the endearments Hizashi used for him, and how Shouta himself never really used any. Maybe he should try.

“Hey, sunshine.” Shouta says.

Hizashi practically melts at the name. His face is red, and he looks unreasonably happy about being called sunshine.

“I love you.” Shouta says, and Hizashi suddenly kisses him.

Huh. Maybe he should learn how to use endearments to his advantage.
