Work Text:
The hall fell silent after the announcement for the next performer to make their way to their way to stage rung throughout the halls; the air thick with anticipation, everyone visibly on the edge of their seats, the lights remained off as the stage crew set up, the lack of light accompanied by their dull footsteps resounding throughout the silent hall.
I pulled my camera out ready to record all of his hard work, his frustration, and his determination. This was it, this was his time to shine, to shine at the end of semester concert where recruiters were scattered throughout the audience, though none of them could be excited as I.
The lights switched turned on, the sudden flash obstructing the vision of the audience. As soon as the flash faded away, my eyes were drawn to the stage. There sat a boy with the reddest hair I’d ever seen; he remained silent, hands poised at the ready, his shoulders tense with nerves.
The audience clapped, excitement starting to rise as all eyes focused upon the young man. He took a visibly steadying breath, as I took it as the cue to press record.
He raised his nervous hands above the keys, quickly striking the first note of the melody. And at that movement, hours and hours of practice kicked in as he nervousness gave way to a beautiful musical fluency.
Each note echoed throughout the hall, the melody resonating with the audience.
Each key struck seemed to ease his nerves as his confidence grew. It struck me how much he had grown since the start… since he had shown up to my door late in the afternoon, frazzled, asking for my help.
As soon as had I opened my door, I could see that tears had been starting to gather in his eyes and immediately could tell he was scared. He had rushed through explaining that apparently to pass the course his teacher had decided that he was not allowed to do yet another dance piece. Instead he had to show off yet another skill.
He was so small when he had shyly asked if I could teach him a song on the piano. I, of course being so whipped for the younger man, agreed. The moment when I agreed was unforgettable… the look on his face, eyes full of love and a beautiful smile scrunching up his eyes and nose.
He had chosen to play Taeyang’s “Wedding Dress”, unsurprising given how big a fanboy he was. Some days were amazing. Some days were harder than others.
Admittedly, he already had a sort of knack for the piano, but when it would get to be too much, he would take it out upon himself in a sense. Always thinking that he wasn’t good enough, when to me he was the world. On those days, we’d take a break, and relax, maybe cuddle and watch TV or maybe I would play the piano for him.
Whatever would make him feel better.
The crescendo of the piano rang throughout the hall as the song neared its end. He hadn’t made one mistake and I was through the roof with pride. His talent was obvious, not just in dance, and I was hoping that the talent scouts scattered throughout the crowd could see that too.
The last note was struck and a moment of silence occurred before the sound of applause exploded, everyone rising to stand in ovation. On the stage, the red headed boy who held my heart, was bowing and obviously trying to not let a grin almost split his face in two.
~~~~~
”Yoongi hyung, hyung, hyung, over here,”.
I heard a voice screaming my name, only to turn around and to be met with one of the most beautiful smiles in the world rushing over to greet me; wide, bright and crinkled eyes. A smile that you could not help but smile alongside with. The definition of happiness, well at for least me.
“Jimmine,” I breathed. His arms automatically wrapping around my diaphragm, his head burrowing into my shoulder, as my hands just as automatically landed upon his waist. I placed a kiss upon his forehead and pulled back, my face hurting with how big I was grinning, full of pride for the wonderful man in my arms.
“I am so incredibly proud of you. You did so well babe,” I said tightening my grip on him.
He blushed, always shying away from compliments and hid his face in my chest.
“Thank you hyung, but it’s all thanks to you,” his muffled voice replied.
“Nope. If it wasn’t for all your hard work and determination, you wouldn’t have gotten the standing ovation you did today. I know you could do it!”
My arms tightened just a little bit as a blush spread across his cheeks.
“And biased or not, I think the scouts did too!”
I brushed a peck against his hair, as his arms tightened around me a bit more in appreciation of the encouragement. I knew he didn’t believe me, but he had slowly been getting better. And if I had my way I would have the rest of my life to remind him daily of how amazing he was.
Just as I was about to open my mouth, a clearing of the throat caused us to step apart. A man in a stuffy business suit was staring straight at us, arms behind his back.
“Um, can we help you?” Jimin asked timidly, face still flushed, still not quiet used to a whole lot of PDA.
“Park Jimin, correct?” he replied in a deep voice, and Jimin nodded.
“Min Yoongi… it’s great to see you again.” I nodded towards him feeling Jimin’s confused stare boring into the side of my face, but I just gave him a look meaning later as I had an idea for what was about to occur.
“Lovely to meet you.” He reached out a hand waiting for Jimin’s and gave it a firm shake.
“I’m a scout from BigHit Entertainment, and while we know you still have a while before you graduate, we were wondering if you would like a place within our trainee program and see where it takes you from there. We have been to a few of your performances and let me tell you, we are thoroughly impressed. You have the talent and seem very dedicated. So what do you say?”
Jimin stood there shocked, and I nudged him, knowing he wouldn’t leave his head without the help.
“MY GOD – Yes. Thank you s-so much. This is an absolute dream come true. I – I – I don’t know what to say,” he stammered, body visibly shaking, timid grin planted on his face.
“Great. We’ll be in touch then, have a lovely evening gentlemen,” and just as quickly as he was here, he was gone.
“Did that actually just happen?” Jimin whispered in a daze
“Yes, it did. Babe I’m so proud of you. Told you I wasn’t biased.” I wrapped him up in a bear hug, swinging him around. I was proud and dramatic, sue me.
“I can’t believe it, wait hold on, what did he mean by great to see you again Yoongi?”
I let Jimin down, hand automatically going to the back of my neck, trying to rub away the nerves.
“Well, see the thing is, that I may have also gotten a visit from BigHit a couple days ago and got the same offer?”
“Is that a question or are you telling me?”
“Telling you?” I replied timidly, unsure how he would react.
“Yoongi, that’s fucking amazing, we got accepted in the same place… I mean, did you accept?” Jimin’s once excited face closed off, unsure of my answer, hope shining in his eyes.
“Of course I said yes, you idiot.” I replied, grinning, getting one in response, until a new though struck his mind.
“Why didn’t you tell me hyung?” His lips quirking slightly downwards.
“Babe, I didn’t tell you cause I wanted to wait till this was over for you. I knew how stress you were and you’ve been practicing none stop these past few days, so focused. I mean I hardly saw you. I didn’t want to interrupt you.” I gave him a slight smile, and a shrug of the shoulders.
“You didn’t have to wait Yoongs. I am so unbelievably proud of you. Look at us. We got accepted to BigHit. Together! I’m so excited.” He jumped up and down.
And well, after that I couldn’t help the fond smile that popped on my face, only growing after looking down at my wonderful boyfriend. He was right, we did get accepted and together. And while we both still had yet to finish university, and didn’t know what could happen to either of us over the course of the next few years, my future had never seemed so bright.
