Vanilla and Rose

Summary:

Smiling slightly, he kisses the top of her head before slipping an arm around her and settling back into bed. There will be a time later today where he must bid her farewell and return to his life of endless surgeries and loss, but for now he is content to hold her close to him in a rare moment of peace.

He catches that familiar scent of vanilla and rose, and Luke faintly wonders if their night together means that their skin smells the same.

Work Text:

Luke was never really understood by most people that knew him. His eccentric behavior and unconventional interests made most people view him with a concerning eye, but there was always one person who treated him with respect. With every visit to the Penthouse, she gave him the same kindly smile and respect that she did everyone else in the room, but to Luke she was heavensent. He remembers a similar smile, warm and inviting, that seemed to be buried in his memories. The longer he spent time with her, the most distant it became, until he could no longer remember the face it belonged to or why it was so important to him.

Aside from the gentleness of her behavior, Luke couldn’t help but be drawn to her beauty. After seeing her work in the Penthouse for months, he became nearly entranced by her looks. The way her collarbone rested just under her skin drew him in, but that was merely the beginning. Every time she leaned down to hand him his tea, he caught a whiff of her perfume. The scent of vanilla and roses invaded his mind like some intruder, staying with him long after he left for his clinic. The sight of her bare legs when she bent down to pick something up made him wonder how her skin would feel beneath his touch, musing that his calloused hands would contrast nicely with her likely-supple flesh.

It takes him six months to gather up the courage to kiss her, and it happens on a night after the auctions. While the rest of the Bidders had made their way back to their designated rooms, the two of them had lagged behind to talk in the hallway. Casual conversation always seemed to turn soft and sweet with them, especially when she asks if he’s taking care of himself. As he turns to answer, he notices a lock of hair had fallen into her face. Catching it with his index and middle finger, he tucks it behind her ear and leans in close. Their lips touch, and Luke swears he can feel a fire spark somewhere deep in his chest.

Their first night is a whirlwind of clothes littering the floor and moans escaping lips, but the world slows down when he sees her splayed out on his bed. The way her cheeks flush and her lips part as she gasps for air leaves him almost in a trance. All he can think about is capturing her lips with his, and he moves to do so. Her eagerness to react and wind her fingers in his hair only gives him more confidence, and he slips her skirt off her frame in one quick motion. She follows suit by ripping her top and bra off and reaching for his belt. Luke can hardly focus on her features, her eyes are swimming with desire as she pulls him closer by his belt buckle. Kissing him hard, she reaches up and starts to unbutton his shirt.

Soon the pair are clad in nothing but their desire for each other, the only sounds in the room are pleasured moans and ragged breathing. Luke’s lips make their way across her body, making sure to give every inch of her the attention she deserves. He finds a home in her collarbone, the dip of her bone making the perfect spot for his tongue. The space between her ribs fit his fingers, and he holds her close like letting go would be the greatest tragedy. Her sharp intake of breath and the way her nails dig into the flesh of his shoulder tell him he’s on the right track, as he trails his lips down her chest. The subtle shifting of her hip bones beneath her skin welcomed him to her most sensitive area, and the thought brings a smile to his face.

Luke remembers all the little moments when people gave him looks that toed the line between confusion and pity, when he was treated as no more than an invalid by the people surrounding him. He can’t help but think of them in this moment, knowing that the way his hands and mouth work on her are nothing short of skilled, arguably the greatest thing his body will ever do. The way her head pushes back against the pillow and her hair sticks to her forehead in sweat is nothing short of a marvel for the young doctor, and he is certain nothing will ever look as beautiful as she does tonight. His hands find her thighs, wrapping her legs around his waist as he climbs on top of her. His lips meet hers and he swallows every cry she makes like he’s drinking from the finest wine. His head is swimming in the drunkenness of her love as she pulls him close, their bodies pressed up against each other like they were molded to be together.

The sun breaks it’s way through the curtains of the suite, and Luke is awake with the woman next to him occupying all of his thoughts. The way her bare back is illuminated in the sunlight reminds him of how supple she felt beneath his touch only the night before. Her face is partially hidden under a curtain of messy chestnut locks, and he has to fight back the urge to smooth it out with his fingers.

His fingers trail a lazy line down her spine as he tries to control the growing urge to take her again. Stealing another peek at her face, Luke can see her mouth slightly parted and he reaches out to brush him with the faintest of touches. The sensation makes her eyes flutter open, and for a second Luke freezes in something he can only akin to fear. The thought melts away when she smiles at him, and she stretches up to give him a morning kiss. It is soft and yearning, a different kind of passion fueling it than the ones from the night before.

Ah, this must be love , he thinks as he kisses her back with the same emotion.
