Taehyung heard screams down the hall from him. He frowned and looked up from his homework, thinking his mind was playing tricks on him. But as he heard it again, he decided to go check it out. He ran down the long hallway until he reached the private room and opened the doors to hear splashing and screams of terror, fear, and pain. Taehyung gasped at the sight. He wasn't able to see what the creature looked like, but he could see black blood and he yelled for them to stop.

"Stop, you're hurting it! Stop!"

Taehyung scrambled up the stairs and pushing the people back, and looking at the water. The creature made eye contact with Taehyung and Taehyung breath stopped short at the sight of the beautiful creature. The thing broke the eye contact and slowly swam down the bottom of the tank, and went in a spot far away from the humans, curling around itself while attending to its cuts that the humans made on his arm and stomach. Black blood surrounded the spot where the creature was a second ago.

Taehyung gulped and shakily went down the stairs, ignoring the stares of the people he pushed back. The reached the bottom of the stairs and was immediately pushed back. His back hit the sharp glass stair and he winced in pain before looking up to see manger-nim's angry expression. He slapped Taehyung before yelling at him. "Next time you want to push my staff, you can go swimming with that monster! You STUPID BOY !" The manger spat, pointing at the merman when he said 'monster'.

Taehyung shook in pain and fear, waiting to see what would happen. When he didn't reply the manger grabbed his brown locks and forced his face up towards the manager. "Do you understand, you worthless piece of shit?" Taehyung could smell the man's breath. He muttered a soft 'yes' before his head was slammed back down onto the stairs. He curled up on the stairs and ignored the kicks his back receives when the people he pushed walked down the stairs.

They left Taehyung alone with the creature. He cried softly for a couple of minutes before straightening out and shakily making his way back to his room before the commotion happened. He looked behind him one last time to see the creature, merman, staring at him. When they made eye contact a second time, it held for about 5 seconds before the merman visibly hissed at Taehyung. The human flinched and walked out with new bruises sprouting on his body, hugging himself.

A couple of days later

The second time the mermaid attacked was with his voice.

Taehyung was just checking up on the mermaid, and wanted to see the strange creature again. He, along with the manager and some staff, were in the room when the mermaid had started to swim in a circle before going to the surface of the tank and bringing his arms up onto the platform. Then he opened his mouth and started to sing. Everyone in the room except Taehyung was affected by the beautiful voice of the dangerous monster.

They started to walk towards the creature in a trance, while Taehyung stood still- confused. One of the staff walked up the stairs and was right in front of the mermaid before the creature grabbed the man's ankles and dragged him in the water, and ripped the man's arm clean off. Taehyung gasped while the others were still in the trance. "Oh my god!" Taehyung yelled looking for help. This caught the attention of the creature and was confused as to why the young boy wasn't moving towards him and was talking on his own will.

The mermaid left the man to drown after ripping his limbs off and opening his stomach, chewing on some intestines. Taehyung felt like he was going to throw up. It was a nasty and gory sight to see, and soon the people came back to their sense and rushed to save the dead limbless man. The creature went down to the bottom and went in a cave that was there. He stared at Taehyung, still munching on some insides, while Taehyung felt like a mouse under a cat's gaze.

Everyone was freaking out and trying to understand what was happening. "Quickly, clean the water. We can't have such a creature die on us." The manager yelled. "But sir, what about-" "I don't care. One person died on us today. It happens all the time. Get the body out and start cleaning the water!" The manager yelled.

Taehyung flinched and started to back away before the manager saw him and took his anger out on him. "You little shit! That didn't affect you, did it!" One of the workers yelled at Taehyung. He froze. The manager turned on him. "What?" Hissed the manager. Taehyung didn't say anything.

The manager stomped towards him and grabbed his hair and kneed Taehyung in his stomach. The force made Taehyung bend over while he was hit in the spine by a hard object. He yelled in pain as someone hit the back of his knee, making him drop to the ground. "Why can't something just kill you already. You are taking care of the mermaid. If it kills you, which I hope it does, you'll just be out of our way. You are nothing but a useless waste of space that should have never been born. Just go kill yourself already. You'll just make everyone a favour." The manager spat at the young boy before punching him.

Taehyung's body whipped to the side and he fell down. He was facing the aquarium and saw the creature come out of its cave a little bit before turning back, but always keeping his eyes on the hurt boy. Taehyung received a few more kicks and hits before everyone left to mourn over the dead worker. Taehyung did nothing but curl up in a ball, and cried into his arms. His sobs echoed through the big room, making them worry the mermaid. The boy did nothing wrong. So why were they hitting him? The mermaid completely came out of its cave and slowly swam toward Taehyung.

He stopped right in front of the glass and stared at the young boy on the floor. He frowned. Taehyung soon stopped crying and looked up to the creature in front of him. He could finally get a good look at him.

He had a nice jawline, brown flowing hair, large doe-like brown eyes and a cute nose. He had a very muscular build, with defined abs, pecs and large arms. His hands were webbed like a duck's between the long fingers with sharp nails that could easily tear into someone, oh wait - that just happened. His tail was just pure muscle. It was a mixture of dark green lined up with faded dark blue, some lighter colours as well, light blue, green and gold spots here and there. His ears were like little fins, the same colour as his tail. He had some scales roaming around on his upper body, and he had gills on the side of his neck. Taehyung thought his teeth would be sharp, but the creature opened his mouth to chew some more- it was the very last bit. The mermaid had sharp, shark like teeth, that could easily rip into something, his canines were incredibly sharp and long. Taehyung saw something like a second eyelid, but he wasn’t completely sure.

Taehyung shivered at the sight, blushing slightly. He couldn't help it. The creature was attractive. Taehyung blushed even more as they made eye contact. He whimpered underneath the piercing gaze of the mermaid. The creature smirked when he realized that Taehyung was flustered and that's when Taehyung ran out of the room. He couldn't handle situations like this.

A few days later

The manager called Taehyung to his office to discuss what was going to happen with that mermaid. The mermaid must be starving by now, the limbs of the dead man couldn't have been very filling. Taehyung in charge of everything, mostly because Taehyung wasn't affected by the creatures singing, but also everyone wanted him dead- so the chance of him being grabbing and drowned or him falling in, was pretty high.

After a couple of insults and unwanted physical contact, he went to go feed the mermaid. He climbed the stair carefully and when he reached the top he stood a good meter away from the ledge. He gulped and reached in the bucket with his bare hands and grabbed a large fish. He held it out and waited for the creature to come and grab it.

"Um, h-hello? I got you s-some fish. Aren't you hungry?" No response. Not a single movement in the water either. Taehyung gulped and stepped closer. Nothing. He was starting to get curious after a few minutes of silence and walked right up to the edge. He wriggled the dead fish and waited. Movement caught his eye. Before he could move back the mermaid had jumped out of the water and snatched the fish. Taehyung gasped and fell on his butt, still extremely close to the ledge.

After the creature had eaten the fish, he went to the surface of the water, poking his head up- only his eyes were above water. They stared at each other before Taehyung got the memo. "Oh, y-you want more." Taehyung crawled to the bucket and shakily grabbed another fish. He held it for a few seconds before throwing it in the air. The creature flicked its tail and flew out of the water, catching the fish in midair.

Taehyung was fascinated by the mermaid. He quickly grabbed another fish and threw it even higher. The mermaid still caught it. Taehyung's lip twitched upwards. He did it a couple of more times, higher each time, Taehyung giggling and it seemed like the merman had a small smile on his plush lips, before he reached the last fish.

He paused for a moment before holding the fish out.

The creature watched the human's movements carefully before swimming closer. They stared at each other before it happened. The mermaid reached out of the water and extended his arms to reach the fish. Taehyung had expected him to grab the fish, but the mermaid had other ideas. He quickly grabbed Taehyung small wrist and pulled him forward. Taehyung had no choice because holy shit this creature was strong. Taehyung thought that this was the end.

He dropped the fish as the creature pulled him so close from the edge that his upper half was above the water, while his knees were still on the platform. Taehyung reached out to steady himself by putting a hand on the warm, wet shoulder. They were very close. Like an inch apart. Taehyung gulped and closed his eyes tightly, waiting for the end. The mermaid closed in on his neck and just stayed there, with his nose pressed against the human's neck. Taehyung stiffened and stood extremely still before realizing what he was doing. He was smelling Taehyung. Taehyung stood there, confused as to why the creature is smelling him and not killing him.

Then he felt a warm wet thing to from his collar bones to his jawline.

Was he licking him?

Taehyung whimpered when he felt the sharp teeth lightly graze across Taehyung's neck, and a light sucking sensation on the side of his neck. The creature chuckled before pushing Taehyung back- so he didn't fall in- and taking his arm off of him. Taehyung was in shock as to what the hell had just happened. Taehyung was on his butt, touching the spot where he licked him. He gulped and watched as the creature grabbed the fish and went down to its cave. Taehyung stood there for a couple more minutes. Now he knows what Hiccup felt like when Toothless had jumped him the first time.

Taehyung eventually got up and walked down the stairs on wobbly legs before going to his room. His room was still  in the building, just a couple of rooms down from the one room that held the mermaid. He checked in the mirror to see what the creature did to him exactly. His first thought was 'oh so that's what a hickey feels like' before screaming out when he realized that, that perverted thing had given him a hickey. The mermaid heard the scream and laughed. This was going to be fun.

Taehyung had a wet dream about being fucked by the mermaid. He woke up to a hard dick, sweating and panting. He blushed furiously, why would he have a wet dream about a creature that isn't even human. He tried not to think about anything as he jerked off, but his mind kept going to- instead of his hand, it was the mermaids. He moaned and arched his back. His eyes were closed, and his hand moved faster. He whimpered as he reached his release. He was out of breath, covered in his own cum and he was so red. God, he really wasn't looking forward to lunchtime. The hickey on his neck was red and purple, like a bruise but it wasn't painful one bit. His wrist one the other hand was bruised up, a hand mark on it. Taehyung stared at it. It didn't even seem like the mermaid was trying hard, Taehyung could only wonder how strong the mermaid really was. He shivered, and went to go take a shower.

Lunchtime came around faster than he wanted and he was forced to go feed the mermaid. He walked in the empty room, with a bucket full of dead fish. He wrinkled his nose up, the smell wasn't very pleasant. He walked up the stairs and stood a couple of inches away from the ledge. "U-um, I have some food for y-you." Taehyung said to the mermaid. No response, but the mermaid came out of its cave to see what was going on. It stayed on the bottom before flicking its strong tail a few times and reached the surface in a few short seconds. Taehyung gasped and stepped back in surprise.

The creature held out its hand expectantly and stared at Taehyung. Taehyung stuttered his movements and reached in to grab a fish. Taehyung held the fish out with shaky hands and threw it to the mermaid. It hit the mermaid in the face and Taehyung bursts out laughing at the shocked expression of the mermaid, and his own terrible throwing skills. The mermaid quickly controlled its facial expressions and threw the fish back at Taehyung. It hit Taehyung in the chest, and he squealed when it hit him.

He fell on his butt laughing and the mermaid had a small smile of amusement. Taehyung gave the fish back to the mermaid, this time throwing it gentler. It bumped into the mermaid's chest and he picked it up, ripping apart the fish's body like it was nothing. Taehyung's laughter died down quickly after seeing that, and averted his eyes to the scene. He closed his eyes for a minute before feeling a hand on his knee.

Taehyung opened his eyes and looked at the mermaid in fear. He didn't move. The mermaid pointed to the bucket. Taehyung grabbed the bucket slowly, waiting for the mermaid to attack him. Nothing happened and Taehyung took out another fish, and held it out. The mermaid took the fish with his free hand, never letting go of Taehyung's knee. Without the human realizing it, the mermaid slid its hand up until it reached the soft thighs. He gripped the flesh hard and Taehyung's leg twitched away from its hold, but the mermaids nails dug into Taehyung's thigh as a warning.

Taehyung gulped. He gave the creature another fish and he watched as he ate it, bones and all. Taehyung gave him the last fish and looked the hand on his thigh. He wonder why he liked that so much. The mermaid finished the fish and brought both of his strong hands to Taehyung's thin waist. He brought the human closer to him, making it so that he was right on the ledge with the creature in between his legs.

Taehyung flinched back, not used to the friendly(?) contact. He breath hitched when the creature's arms tightened around him, shoving his handsome face into Taehyung's soft stomach. Taehyung blushed furiously and stuttered out random words. The mermaid smirked into his stomach. He nuzzled into it, making Taehyung even more embarrassed. "P-please, I-I, wha-what." He couldn't remember how to word. "Um, h-hello." Taehyung eventually stuttered out. The mermaid just purred like a cat into his stomach. What the fuck was happening?

Taehyung hand no idea what to do with his arms, but he caught sight of the mermaids ears. It was like a little fin, with little spikes. Taehyung reached out to touch it, and barely grazed on one to the spikes before the mermaid growled and pushed Taehyung away. "W-wait!" The mermaid paused and looked back. "You-you understand me, r-right?" The mermaid faintly nodded his head. "What's your name?" Taehyung asked, crawling toward the edge. It was silent for a moment and Taehyung thought that he wasn't going to respond.

Then a deep, sexy voice said, "Jeongguk."

And then the mermaid- no, Jeongguk- disappeared underwater. Taehyung stared at the spot where Jeongguk was a second ago before yelling out "My name’s Taehyung!" And ran down the stairs with the bucket and a boxy smile spread wide on his face. Jeongguk watched at the human, Taehyung, ran down the stairs, happy. Jeongguk smiled at the sight, and happy that the hickey was still there.

The next day Taehyung was running up the stairs, excited to see what this Jeongguk would do today. He reached the top of the stairs, and walked over to the ledge, sitting down and putting his feet in the cold water. Taehyung shivered at the feeling. "Jeongguk! I have food!" Taehyung yelled out to the water. A few seconds later, Jeongguk emerged from his cave and swam towards the human. He stood a good couple of centimetres away. "Just because I told you my name, human, does not mean that I have any intentions of being friends with a creature like you." Jeongguk glared at Taehyung.

Taehyung gulped and averted his eyes, his smile dying down. "O-oh. I'm sorry. I was j-just excited to make a friend." Taehyung lowered his head, looking at the bucket of dead fish that was located in his lap. Jeongguk sighed heavily and swam towards the human. "What do you have for me today?" Taehyung  perked up and smiled at the mermaid.

"I-I honestly have no idea." Taehyung said reaching the bucket and grabbing a fish. He held it out and watched as Jeongguk plucked it from his hands, careful not to scratch the human with his sharp nails. Jeongguk bite into it and swam around, staying on the surface.

"J-Jeongguk." The mermaid looked up when his name was called. "I, I'm going to get you out of here. I promise." Taehyung told him. They were both silent. "And I'm going to be you f-friend." Taehyun stuttered out. Jeongguk smirked and swam closer to Taehyung. "Oh really? Are you now?" Taehyung didn't really know which question he was talking about, so he just nodded his head.

Taehyung grabbed another fish and held it out. This time, Jeongguk jumped on Taehyung, again, his legs on either side of the mermaids tail. " Taehyungie, I'm a dangerous creature that could rip you to shreds in seconds. You do not want to have any intentions of being friends with me." Jeongguk smiled, showing off his razor sharp teeth, making Taehyung shiver. "I-I don't care. You would've already killed me if you wanted to." Taehyung averted his eyes. Damn, why was it so hard to make eye contact? Jeongguk's face darkened.

His head lowered to Taehyung's neck, and he felt teeth on either side of his neck- which wasn't supposed to be possible. Jeongguk lightly bite down, his canines drawing some blood. Taehyung whimper before realizing that Jeongguk was try to scare him. "J-Jeongguk. I'm not afraid." Taehyung whispered. Jeongguk moved back and stared at the boy underneath him. "Did you know that our jaws can dislocate to eat prey bigger than our normal jaw?" Jeongguk said after a few seconds.

"Can I- can I see?" Taehyung licked his lips and watched as Jeongguk's jaw opened like a snakes would when they eat big animals. Taehyung moved his hands to Jeongguk's jaw, sliding it up until it met his ear. "And your ears, they're weird." Jeongguk's jaw returned to normal, and he snickered. "They're fins but we can hear from them." Jeongguk said. "Besides, they're not weird. Your ears are weird. There's only skin there, and there's a hole in the middle. That's creepy." Taehyung laughed. "I guess they are." He said touching his own ears. Jeongguk smiled, showing off his sharp teeth again. Taehyung giggled, unafraid.

Jeongguk knew from the moment that he had seen the human that he had found his mate. He was gorgeous, with sun kissed skin, light brown hair, a boxlike smile with shining white teeth, and the most adorable creature Jeongguk had ever seen in his long life. He wasn't affected by Jeongguk's singing at all, and he tried not to show it but Taehyung was scared of him. Jeongguk played around with the human, making him turn red, and not being able to form words, which made Jeongguk laugh.

The human was a sweet and young boy, which didn't make sense as to why people would hit him. Back in the sea, of you did something wrong you would get shouted out, and maybe hit, but Jeongguk had never seen the human do anything wrong. He felt the need to protect him from any and all harm.

Jeongguk had heard of a mermaid falling in love with a human, in fact his best friend fell in love with a human. Yoongi was a smaller mermaid, still some muscle, but more fast than strong. He fell in love with a blonde sailor centuries ago name Jimin. They're love was so strong that the sea witch agreed with turning Jimin human or Yoongi a mermaid. Jimin became a mermaid, not wanting to spend life as a human, but as long as he was with his life-mate, he would be fine. They're probably worried sick about Jeongguk.

"Jeongguk! Food time!" Taehyung deep velvet voice came through the water making Jeongguk's head snap up from where he was lying down in his cave. He shook off the sand and swam up to meet Taehyung. "Hello Taehyung." Jeongguk replied smoothly, keeping a good distance between them. Jeongguk could easily hurt or kill Taehyung if he wasn't careful enough, always making sure to be mindful of his strength and claws.

"Why are you so far away, come here." Taehyung whined. Jeongguk rolled his eyes but came closer until he was at the ledge, resting his forearms and chin on top. Taehyung took in every detail. The small mole underneath his plush red lips. His lips were so red and full, like he'd use finish eating a cherry Popsicle. His large doe-like eyes, how big his hands were, and how sharp his claws were.

"Can I have my food now, if you're done staring." Jeongguk said smugly, and watched as the human turned red again. Taehyung stuttered out more random words and handed Jeongguk the fish. "Why do you turn red?" Jeongguk asked, innocently tilting his head to the side and bit into the fish. Taehyung gulped and fumbled with his fingers, the pink still resting on his cheeks. "Humans do that when they get embarrassed of angry, the blood rushes to their cheeks, ears, and neck." Jeongguk made a sound of understanding something.

"Oh, when we get flustered, our 'ear fins', as you would call them, tremble and shake." Jeongguk swam around on his back, taking his time with eating. Taehyung nodded as he stared at Jeongguk. "So it's blood rush." Jeongguk continued. Taehyung nodded again. Jeongguk hummed once more, pleased at the new information. “How did you even get caught?” Taehyung asked suddenly after a moment of silence. Jeongguk huffed angrily.

“You know I live at the bottom of the ocean,” Taehyung nodded, “So, I got curious. I went to the surface, to see what my friend meant by the sun being warm on his skin. I’ve been to the surface a couple of times, but that was before the new rules.” Jeongguk explained, and Taehyung tilted his head to the side. “New rules?” Taehyung questioned. “Yeah, the new rules. Basically a long time ago, mercreatures would eat humans. I’m guessing that’s where your myths of mermaid came from.” Jeongguk explained, while Taehyung nodded, frowning.

“So you eat humans?” Taehyung asked, fear reflecting in his brown eyes. “A long time ago,” Jeongguk reassured him. “There are still some pods that refuse to follow the new rules, but there aren't many of them.” Jeongguk explained. “Oh,” “Anyways, back to my capturing. I’m guessing your pod was looking for something in the ocean, because when they found me, they were prepared. I’m not sure how they followed my so deep, but some type of creature caught me with a net. But I’m not sure how I actually got here .” Jeongguk frowned as he told his story. “Maybe they injected you with something?” Taehyung guessed, but he wasn’t sure, and he sure as hell wasn’t going to ask the manager. “Perhaps,” Jeongguk agreed.

“My turn, why are your podmates and leader so hostile towards you?” Jeongguk asked, clearly something serious when Taehyung started to fidget. “It's a long story,” Taehyung said, not really wanting to share. Jeongguk raised an eyebrow. “No, tell me. It’s not like I’m going anywhere anytime soon.” Jeongguk joked, but he knew that something truly was wrong.

“My parents owned this place, which is why I live here. They gave up everything, they sold our house and moved us here when bills became too much.” Taehyung explained, and Jeongguk didn’t really know what ‘bills’ were, but didn’t interrupt. “My parents loved fish, hence the reason why they bought this building. The business started out small, they would rescue fish and marine life, nurture and help them heal before setting them back in the ocean. But then they died trying to capture something in the ocean. My dad had been tracking it for a month then, saying that once they get this, we would have all the money in the world. My mom didn’t agree with him, saying that we only rescued injured or sick ones. My father wanted to get this thing despite my mother saying otherwise. So, they went by themselves in the ocean, trying to get whatever it was.” Taehyung’s voice cracked, but there were no tears in his eyes.

“They didn’t come back, and I was by myself for a couple of days before the police showed up and told me that my parents were gone and my uncle would care for me. My uncle is the manager, but I don’t see him as my family. He would hit me for the sake of doing so. I’m not sure why he did, and still doing so, but I think he blames my for my parents’ death. So I work here, sort of, normally I would feed the other fish, but I’ve been assigned to this case, probably because the manager hopes you eat me or something.” Taehyung sighed, looking at the water.

“I was only six then, and 12 years later, I still don’t know why he does the things he does to me. I would leave, but I have no place to go, so I’m stuck here.” Taehyung finished his story, looking at Jeongguk’s reaction.

“But why? What does he gain by hitting you?” Jeongguk questioned. “Some people are just cruel.” Taehyung sighed out. “Ok, my turn,” Taehyung grinned, trying to put behind the dark past, and present. “When you sung, why wasn’t I affected?” Jeongguk swallowed. “I have no idea,” Jeongguk shrugged, but oh he had an idea . Stories of humans falling in love mermaid, and vice versa, wasn’t that unusual back then. But now, it was. In the stories, they would say how humans weren’t affected by mermaids voice because they were destined to become mates, no matter what. But there wasn’t a chance that Jeongguk would say anything.

They talked for hours, Jeongguk explaining to him about the ocean and all the types of different fish that live in the depths. They laughed and joked around, having fun, until Taehyung manager came in.

Taehyung paled and told Jeongguk to go down to his cave. Jeongguk wanted to argue, but the look in Taehyung's eyes were clear and not to be reasoned with. Jeongguk snarled at the manager, who was on his phone, and flicked his powerful tail so he was in his cave within a few seconds. Taehyung slowly stepped down the stairs, on edge. "I need you to take measurements." The older said, eyes burning into Taehyung's soul. He nodded and followed the other to the room where they kept scales, measuring tapes, thermometers, and needles.

Taehyung was sure he wasn't going to get hit, but he accidentally dropped a beaker- trying to move it so he could get what he needed. Taehyung flinched as the loud sound was echoed, and the beaker falling apart into a million shards. Taehyung's eyes widened and he stood completely still, waiting for something to happen. The manager- who had his back to Taehyung- turned around slowly, with murder in his eyes.

Taehyung stepped back, his shoes protecting the sole of his foot from the glass as he stepped on them. “I-I’m sorry,” Taehyung stuttered, fear across his face. The manager slapped his face, but he seemed to be in a good mood, just spitting at Taehyung to not do it again, and left. Taehyung blinked, and watched the door cautiously, waiting for him to come back, but he didn’t. Taehyung breathed out in relief, rubbing his cheek gently. Taehyung rolled his shoulders back, trying to get the shakiness off him. He put the needed things in a wagon, too much to carry in one go. He walked back to Jeongguk, who was waiting for him at the bottom, for him to say all good. Taehyung yelled out to come up, and Jeongguk did just that, flicking his tail twice and he was already at the top of the tank. Taehyung had brought what he could in his arms, setting them down gently.

"I need to do some tests, okay?" Taehyung asked and Jeongguk said ok. Taehyung first asked Jeongguk open his mouth without dislocation and measuring it and then measuring it with dislocation. Taehyung wrote them down in the notebook, humming to himself. "Here, bite down hard on this." Taehyung said, placing some solid to make markings of Jeongguk's teeth.

While he was doing this, Taehyung grabbed the tweezers and pulled a hair from the top of his head, making Jeongguk glare at the human as he placed it in a thin container. Taehyung reached in his mouth and carefully taking out the thing. Jeongguk rubbed his jaw, sore from biting it down for so long. Taehyung then told Jeongguk to open his mouth so he could get a split sample. Jeongguk grimaced as Taehyung put the swab in his mouth, and it coming back looking slimy and green.

Taehyung then took the needle and the piece of rubber, and wrapped it around Jeongguk's upper arms. Jeongguk looked confused as to what Taehyung would do, but quickly caught on as Taehyung cleaned the area with alcohol and brought the needle to a vein that popped up. Jeongguk winced and whined as Taehyung drew a lot of blood. It wasn't enough to make Jeongguk dizzy or pass out, but just enough for him to know.

The blood was black, and Taehyung stared at it for a long time, frowning. "What?" Jeongguk asked. Taehyung shook his head. "Nothing, it's just... so strange." Taehyung said, more to himself than to Jeongguk. “Why? What colour is yours?” Jeongguk asked. “Red, but some people think that it’s blue underneath the skin before it is exposed to the air.” Taehyung laughed at Jeongguk expression. Taehyung then asked Jeongguk to get up on the platform so he could take Jeongguk's weight and length and width.

Jeongguk huffed as he did, his tail being dead weight on land. He flopped down, stomach down, his head resting in his arms, sighing. Taehyung snorted at the very ungraceful flop Jeongguk did, but took his measurements, and weight. Taehyung raised an eyebrow at the weight. "Jeongguk I think you're overweight," Taehyung laughed, making Jeongguk give a very visible eye roll. He was over 140 kg, and Taehyung was only around 55 kg. The difference was quite big, but the weight was probably all the muscles in his tail, which was almost a meter and a half long.

"I just need to collect a scale, your temperature, and a nail." Taehyung told him petting Jeongguk for being so nice. Jeongguk huffed out, and hummed. The scale part was Jeongguk's job, find a dead scale and a live one. He winced as he took the still good one. "Thank you," Taehyung said as he put them in separate containers, and labelling them. "Open up again." Taehyung said as he placed the thermometer underneath Jeongguk's black tongue and keeping it there.

While he was doing that, he clipped a nail from Jeongguk’s hand. "All done." Taehyung smiled as he wrote it down. "Finally." Jeongguk sighed as he struggled to get back in the water. Taehyung helped him, shoving him in the water.

Jeongguk was happy to get back in the water after being dry for a while. Taehyung went to the lab and told them that he was done and gave them the samples and measurements. Taehyung went back and saw Jeongguk was waiting for him. He smiled, and went back up to the tank, where Jeongguk was resting his forearms.

Taehyung sat down crisscross, and told Jeongguk to talk about the ocean again. Jeongguk looked at him worriedly, but he said okay. They must've talked for a while because Taehyung yawned, and felt sleepy. Jeongguk kept talking, even as Taehyung laid down on his side and tucked an arm underneath his head like a pillow. He watched as his eyelids drooped and fell closed. He kept talking quietly even as Taehyung fell asleep. Jeongguk looked at the human's face after finishing his stories.

His long eyelashes were brushing against the tan skin of his cheeks, and his face was relaxed. Jeongguk saw the very small details in his face. The little mole on his nose and on his cheek. His pink lips, and pouty face. His soft brown hair, and Jeongguk ran his fingers through it, mindful of his nails. Jeongguk sighed, and came a little closer to Taehyung's face. His breath ghosted over Taehyung's cheek as he gently pressed his lips to it. Taehyung shifted again, but remained asleep.

Jeongguk grinned at the sight. He waited a couple of more minutes before waking Taehyung up. He moaned, saying something like "go away I'm tired" which made Jeongguk tickle his side. Taehyung sat up with a shriek, and held his side. "Don't do that!" He whined. Jeongguk only laughed. Taehyung cherished the moments he laughed. How he threw his head back and let out some kind of evil laugh. It was cute. "You should go to sleep Taehyung." Jeongguk said after he was done. "I was until you woke me up!" He pouted and Jeongguk rolled his eyes. "I meant in a bed."

"Oh, okay. Goodnight Jeongguk, see you tomorrow. Taehyung yawned. "Oh and Jeongguk?" The other hummed. "What happened to "not having any intention with being friends with a human"?" He tried to imitate Jeongguk's voice, which only made Jeongguk roll his eyes. Taehyung smiled when he knew that he didn't have an answer or reason for that. Taehyung skipped down the stairs, and went to his room. Not even bothering to change his outfit, just collapsing on the bed, falling asleep before his head hit the pillow.

Taehyung woke up to screaming. It sounded the same as when he first heard Jeongguk. Taehyung's eyes widened at the familiar sound, and ran to Jeongguk's tank. He saw him outside of the water, underneath men as one had something in his mouth. "What the hell are you doing?" Taehyung screamed as he went up the stairs, skipping two at a time. "We need a tongue, gum, and tooth sample. It seems you forgot." One of the shrugged, and Taehyung flinched back as they struggled to pull the tooth. Jeongguk's inhuman shrieks of pain made Taehyung snap out and tried to help him.

"Stop! At least give him numbing!" Taehyung grabbed the hands that were trying to take the tooth, and shoved him in the water. He then unlocked the mental spacer that was keeping Jeongguk's mouth open and took it out. Jeongguk sat up and bit in the neck of one of the people holding his tail down. The man yelled in pain, blood gushing everywhere . Jeongguk somehow managed to shove the rest off and went into the water, swimming frantically in circles. Taehyung gasped at the sight. "What the fuck is wrong with you!" One of the people said, and pushed Taehyung down the stairs. Taehyung tumbled down the stairs, his hair was gripped by no other than the manager once he reached the bottom.

"I'm sorry, but you were hurting him!" Taehyung wouldn't back down if someone hurt Jeongguk. The manager's eyes darken as he dragged Taehyung back up the stairs by his hair. Taehyung clawed at the hand, but it refused to let to. When they were near the top, Taehyung understood what he was going to do. "No please! I-I don't know how to swim!" Taehyung yelled out, frantically looking for help. Most people ignored him, and left the room to attend to the injured. The one Jeongguk bit wasn't the only one who got hurt.

"Well then, that's even better." The manager said and threw him in the water. Taehyung gasped for air as his legs and arms flailed around, trying not to sink. He watched as the manager walked down the stairs and left the room. Taehyung struggled to get to the top, and started to grow tired. He coughed, water filling his lungs, making him cough even more. His vision was turning black, and he lost feeling in his limbs. He looked up to see the artificial light shining down in him. Maybe it was for the best, if he died. So he closed his eyes, and died.

Jeongguk watched as Taehyung was thrown in the water and didn't swim like other humans would. He watched as he sunk to bottom, not moving he tried to get to Taehyung, but whatever the humans injected to his tail, made it so he couldn't move it. It felt numb, he had no feeling in it. But he refused to watch Taehyung die right in front of him. Somehow, Jeongguk move and he grabbed Taehyung in his arms and shot up to the surface, and set him down on the ledge before coming up and sitting beside Taehyung shaking him. "Oi Taehyung, wake up!" Taehyung made no response. Jeongguk's eyes started to water, but his second eyelid brushed the tears out of his eyes. "No no no, this cannot be happening," he growled out, and tried to remember. He used to watch humans swim and play at the beach.

And some wouldn't be able to swim, or not be able to hold their breath that long, and someone would save them, put their mouth against their and blow. Then the person would cough up water. Jeongguk decided to give it a try. He pressed his lips against Taehyung's cold ones, and blew.

Nothing.

He was missing something, he just knew it. They plugged their nose and tilted their heads back. Jeongguk did that and blew.

Still nothing.

He tried again.

And again.

Nothing was working.

He tried to press down on the chest like some people would do.

Nothing. "I'm doing it right, why aren't you waking up? Taehyung!" Jeongguk screamed, and hit his chest hard. Taehyung coughed up water and gasped. Jeongguk lifted his head, and rolled Taehyung on the side, patting him gently and whispering comforting words in his ear.

"Jeongguk," Taehyung groaned, coughing still. "I'm here, I'm here don't worry." Jeongguk said, rubbing his back. "I can't understand anything you're saying," Taehyung whispered, and then Jeongguk realized that he was speaking in his mother tongue. He switched back to Korean. "Sorry," he chuckled nervously. Taehyung shook his head like he was saying it was okay, and coughed more. He groaned and shut his eyes.

Jeongguk, still incredibly worried about the other, lifted him up and held him to the chest. His tail was in the water, so he wouldn't dry out. He held Taehyung bridal style in his arms. "God dammit Taehyung do not do that every again or I will kill you myself." Jeongguk pressed his face in Taehyung's wet hair, which made Taehyung chuckled weakly. "Sorry, I know I promised you I would get you outta here." Taehyung sighed and rested his head on Jeongguk's muscular shoulder. Jeongguk gulped. "Yeah, that's the reason." He murmured.

A week passed after that, and Taehyung was still feeding him and everything. They still talked, but it seemed like Jeongguk wanted to do different things. He would be on Taehyung, touching him whenever he could, making sure that he was still alive. He was just so scared about Taehyung almost dying, he just needed to make sure that he was still there. He kept trying to convince himself that he only cared about the human because he promised to get him out of here. Deep down he knew it wasn't true, and that he was falling for the human.

A month passed before Taehyung came up with an idea. "Ok so, I'm going to get you to my car, and there'll be a wet towel that you'll sit on, and then you'll have a bunch of smaller wet towels that will keep you from drying." Taehyung exclaimed, happy. Jeongguk raised a sharp eyebrow, and watched as Taehyung's expression fall. "It's not good, is it?" "No! It's perfect, I'm pretty sure it will work, just umm, what's a car?" Jeongguk asked, his ear fins trembling- and Taehyung defiantly saw it.

" OH MY GOD YOU'RE BLUSHING !" He all but shouted, which made them shake even more now that he was being called out on. "Shut up!" Jeongguk swam to the bottom and crossed his arms. Taehyung laughed, finally seeing Jeongguk embarrassed. "Oh my god Kookie, it's so cute, come back!" Taehyung giggled, waiting for Jeongguk to come back up. When he didn't, Taehyung's smile fell to a pout. "Fine, you wanna do this the hard way, we can do this the hard way." Taehyung muttered to himself as he looked at the water.

Taehyung carefully lowered himself in the water, hands gripping the ledge. Why was he even doing this? The water was now up to his neck, when he felt a warm body press against his back, and a strong hand wrapped around his waist. "What do you think you're doing?" Jeongguk's scared and deep voice, vibrating Taehyung's back. "Um, I don't know?" He squeaked, one hand gripping the ledge and the other gripping Jeongguk's forearm that was around his waist.

Jeongguk was silent, and Taehyung could feel the strong tail moving lazily, keeping them up. Then Jeongguk's free arm came up and took Taehyung's wrist that was hanging onto the ledge, and took his hand off. "Kookie please I-I can't swim." Taehyung's said shakily as he tried to reach for the ledge- but couldn't because of Jeongguk's strong grip. "Taehyung you're okay," Jeongguk said and he backed away from the ledge. Taehyung gasped and struggled.

"N-no, Jeongguk no, take me back! I can't swim." Taehyung's eyes started to water. He didn't want to drown again. "Taehyung. You're with the best swimmer in the world. You are okay, so just breathe." Jeongguk whispered and he slowly turned Taehyung around, arm firmly around his waist, and turned Taehyung around so he was facing him. "Tae, it's okay." He said once he saw Taehyung's scared face. Taehyung trembled and Jeongguk sighed. "Taehyung, trust me." And at those words Taehyung's shakily wrapped his arms around Jeongguk's wide shoulders, and pressed his face in his neck, mindful of his gills.

Taehyung gasped, and relaxed, fully trusting Jeongguk. "There we go, that's it. Trust me." Jeongguk said, his tail still keeping them up. "I'm going to teach you how to swim," Jeongguk words made Taehyung look up. "What?" Taehyung's small voice made Jeongguk want to kiss him.

"I've seen plenty of humans swim. Don't worry. First start with kicking your legs." Jeongguk instructed, and Taehyung just stared at him, he repeated it again. Taehyung's long legs slowly started to move back and forth, hitting the tail sometimes. Jeongguk gripped his waist with both hands and held him away as far as he could. "Jeongguk!" Taehyung's big hands gripping Jeongguk's forearms.

"Don't worry, I got you. Just keep kicking. Back and forth," he told Taehyung, looking his eyes to make sure he knew that he was telling the truth. Taehyung let out a shaky breath and nodded, moving his feet back and forth, one limb forward and the other backwards. After a while of doing that Jeongguk told him to move his arms, and proceeded to lower Taehyung down him into the water until it reached his neck. He did as he was told, and was too focused to notice Jeongguk letting go.

"You're doing great Tae. Now I don't want you to freak out, but look at me." Jeongguk's happy voice made Taehyung look up and saw that Jeongguk was hold his hands up. The ones that were supposed to be holding Taehyung up. Taehyung gasped, and fluttered in his movement, and Jeongguk was back on him in a second. "You did it Taehyung! It wasn't practically swimming, but you held yourself up." Jeongguk smiled, showing off the sharp teeth that Taehyung was no longer afraid of. He hugged the human tightly, and laughed.

They looked at each other, both smiling. Taehyung rested his head on Jeongguk's shoulder, and sighed. He felt Jeongguk's tail pick up pace, and that they were slowly moving around the tank, silent. Taehyung drew little patterns on Jeongguk's built chest, and snuggled down into his warmth.

Taehyung loved the way Jeongguk was built and his warmth. He loved the way his eyes would softened when he looked at Taehyung. He loved Jeongguk's hands, and even his claws. He loved the way Jeongguk smiled, and loved his sharp teeth. He loved his tan skin, even though he lived in deep waters. He loved Jeongguk's little mole underneath his red plush lip. He loved how perfect it felt to be in his arms. He loved Jeongguk. Taehyung smiled at the realization. He loved Jeongguk.

Taehyung raised his head to look at Jeongguk, his eyes closed. "Jeongguk?" He whispered, and Jeongguk hummed in affirmation, eyes still shut. Taehyung licked his lips, and looked down to his lips. Taehyung reached up and pressed his lips against the mermaids. They stayed still for a while, before Jeongguk moved his lips against the others, tilting his head to deepen the kiss. Taehyung wrapped his arms around his neck, and gripped the hair.

Jeongguk sighed in Taehyung mouth and licked his lips, asking for permission. Taehyung let him, opening his mouth, and let Jeongguk's tongue explore Taehyung's mouth. He moaned slightly, as their tongues brushed against one another. Taehyung had to pull away, gasping for breath. There was a thick string of saliva connecting their lips, and Jeongguk followed it back to Taehyung's lips, sucked on his bottom lip. "Jeongguk, does this mean you want me too?" Taehyung whispered as he pressed his foreheads together, and look each other in the eyes. Jeongguk smiled and pecked his lips. "Yeah. I do." Jeongguk kissed him again.

After a while of making out, Taehyung got cold, and told Jeongguk to let him back up. Jeongguk compiled, and watched as Taehyung shivered, and ran out to go change into warmer clothes. He came back in sweatpants and a large hoodie. His box smile shined through Jeongguk. He went over the fridge and grabbed fish for Jeongguk. He climbed up the stairs, the bucket swinging back and forth.

Jeongguk waited, lips swollen and red. He smiled and pushed himself up, kissing him again as Taehyung kneeled down. Taehyung giggled, and kissed him back. "Mmmm Jeongguk wait. I have food you." Taehyung mumbled against his lips, but Jeongguk playfully growled and pushed Taehyung down to the ground, and climbed on top of him, his tail on either side of his legs.

Taehyung moaned into Jeongguk's mouth as Jeongguk placed his arms on either side of Taehyung's head, pressing his body down and Taehyung wrapped his arms around Jeongguk's neck, and pulled his hair hard, which made the mermaid groan. Taehyung turned his head to the side the breathe as Jeongguk kissed and raked his teeth down his neck. Taehyung shivered as Jeongguk gently bit him on his shoulder.

"Jeongguk aren't you hungry?" Taehyung gasped out. "Mmm, I'm hungry for you." Jeongguk suck a hickey onto the junction between his neck and shoulder. "Oh my god Kookie. You're so corny." Taehyung mumbled against Jeongguk lips as he pressed them back against his own. "I don't even know what the means," Jeongguk sighed and pulled back to look at Taehyung who was flushed and panting underneath him.

"You're heavy, get off." Taehyung huffed as he rolled him off with the help of Jeongguk. "Here, eat." Taehyung grabbed the bucket of fish and handed it to Jeongguk, who took it and dug in. "So do you like, eat the bones as well?" Taehyung rolled over to his side and propped his head up by his hand. "Mmnhhghnmm," Jeongguk said with a mouthful of raw fish. Taehyung cringed at the sight. Jeongguk swallowed, throat bulging as the fish went down. "Not really, it takes too long if I pick out the bones. I could but I'm too lazy to." Jeongguk shrugged as he picked out another fish.

"Do you just eat fish, or is there something else?" Taehyung questioned, moving so his head so it was resting on the tail, the part that would be his thighs if he had legs. Jeongguk rested a hand on his head and ran his fingers through it, making sure not to hurt Taehyung with his claws. Taehyung hummed and closed his eyes in bliss. "We normally eat fish but have other stuff as well seaweed, moss and sometimes algae, oh and humans. But, it’s kinda whatever we can find I guess, mostly fish though." Jeongguk shrugged again.

"Oh," Taehyung mumbled out. Jeongguk eventually finished his last fish, and both were silent, knowing what should be asked. Taehyung cleared his throat. "So, um, what are we now?" Taehyung looked up at Jeongguk, who stared back down on him. Both were flushed at the question, Taehyung was red while Jeongguk's fin trembled. "I-I mean, whatever you want." Jeongguk stuttered out.

"Can we be boyfriends?" Taehyung whispered. "I don't know what human terms are, Taehyung,"  Jeongguk sighed. "It's like, a intimate relationship? You like kiss and cuddle and take each other out on dates and do stuff..." Taehyung blushed and trailed off. "Like what, Tae? Mate? What's the term... sex?" Jeongguk smirked as Taehyung shot up and blushed heavily. Jeongguk threw his head back and laughed loudly.

"Sure Tae. I'll be your boyfriend, but on one condition." Jeongguk eyed Taehyung with eyes that made him shiver. "What is it?" Taehyung played with his fingers. "Be my mate." And Jeongguk leaned in and kissed Taehyung's lips. Taehyung smiled and wraps his arms around Jeongguk neck as he wrapped his arms around Taehyung's waist. "Okay," Taehyung sighed and tilted his head to deepen the kiss.

A week later, and they were prepared to take Jeongguk back. Taehyung ran some tests to see how well he could stay without water. He could stay quite a while, but he would be uncomfortable and dry. They just needed to get Jeongguk to Taehyung's car, and he was fucking heavy . They would need to put Jeongguk on some kind of wheels to get him to the car. Taehyung laughed breathlessly and look at Jeongguk, who was hiding in Taehyung's neck. Jeongguk's shoulder began to shake and his breath got shaky. His arms tightened around Taehyung's waist, and he snuggled down. "Guk?" Taehyung asked tried to look at him as he pet his hair. Jeongguk looked up and looked at his boyfriend with watery eyes.

"Why are you crying? Is everything okay?" Taehyung hands were on his face wiping away the purple tears. Jeongguk smiled sadly and they both knew what the problem was. "Taehyung, if I go back home, I'll leave you behind. I-I don't want to leave you." His voice cracked. Taehyung's own eyes watered and he blinked them away. "Jeongguk, it's summer now, and when it starts to get cold I'll need to go back to school. But when I'm done that, I'll stay with you, okay?" Taehyung pressed his forehead against the others and looked at him in the eyes. Jeongguk sniffled and nodded, kissing him softly. "Okay," he whispered against the humans lips.

"Oh god, you're so fat!" Taehyung heaved Jeongguk up onto the platform. "Shut the fuck up," Jeongguk huffed and got on. They just got down the stairs very ungracefully, and Taehyung put him on some kind of stretcher. Taehyung pushed with all his might, arms and legs straining. "It's all those fucking fish. Get on a diet you overgrown shrimp." Taehyung groaned as Jeongguk's tail hit him in the chest.

"Okay Tae, I know I'm heavy when I'm out of water, just shut up." Jeongguk sighed out as they go outside. Taehyung looked around to make sure no one was around. There wasn't, and he also parked where there were no cameras. He threw open the door and lowered the stretcher so it was levelled with the car seats height. Jeongguk's arms bulged as he gripped the car handle, trying to get in, and sit down on the wet towels. "Holy fuck!" Jeongguk groaned.

"I really do need to lose weight," he joked and watched as Taehyung's stressed face didn't even crack at the joke. He placed the stretcher in the trunk and got in the front seat. Jeongguk shifted and reached his hand to hold Taehyung's. His grip was shaky and weak, and Taehyung let out a shaky breath trying to breath. "We're good Tae. Just move the thing or whatever." Jeongguk said. Taehyung laughed and shook his head, turning on the car which made Jeongguk very uneasy. The car moved and Jeongguk groaned. Taehyung laughed and drove off to the ocean. The whole ride they were silent, and Jeongguk made sure to keep himself damp. They couldn't say anything.

They reached the ocean. Taehyung's eyes widened at the full moon resting on the water's surface. It was so beautiful. "Wow," Taehyung breathed out. Jeongguk smiled and helped himself on the stretcher as Taehyung brought him down to the water. Taehyung went in the water until it reached his knees and shoved Jeongguk off, the loud splash making Taehyung giggle. He returned to the car and put it back in the trunk, let Jeongguk call out to his friends telepathically.

Taehyung walked back out to the water to see Jeongguk's happy expression as he jump out of the water and dove back in, like a dolphin. He watched Jeongguk go far out in the water, no walls to stop him. "Tae!" Jeongguk yelled and went over to him. Taehyung went in the water, up to his chest before he felt Jeongguk's familiar arms around him. He wrapped his arms around Jeongguk's neck and let him swim out in deep waters, fully trusting the mermaid. "Taehyung, thank you." Jeongguk whispered in his ear, nosing it.

"You're very welcome Jeongguk. You deserve it." Taehyung said kissing him, letting Jeongguk take control. He pressed back with force, and Taehyung responded at same, sighing in pleasure as Jeongguk's tongue rubbed against his. He pulled back to gasp for breath, leaned his head back and exposing his throat to Jeongguk, who kissed it softly. He moved on hand from around his waist to search Taehyung's body. Chim, this is my mate, Taehyung." Jeongguk introduced them. Jimin smiled and swam closer to Taehyung who shook his hand. Taehyung then remembered that he used to be a human before he turned into a mermaid. Taehyung smiled nervously and shook his hand, looking at Jeongguk.

"Hello," Jimin's voice was high like a girls, but had a manly side to it. Taehyung replied and shyly took his hand back. Jimin then turned to Jeongguk and spoke in their language again. Jeongguk nodded and Jimin discarded in the water, orange tail coming out and splashing Taehyung. Jeongguk pressed his lips against Taehyung's again. "Do you think you could come tomorrow? You're tired and I don't want to stay up for me." Jeongguk said as Taehyung's eyes could barely stay open. "But what if I don't see you again?" Taehyung yelled out, clearly scared. “I’ve talked with Seokjin, and he’s willing to meet Taehyung and figure out something.” Jimin told the other, giving him a potion. “Give this to Taehyung. It helps him breath underwater for two hours, and it’ll help with with the different pressures of the waters, oh and the temperature.” Jimin explained, handing over the drink. Jeongguk nodded his thanks. Right before Jimin left he said, “You know, if humans stay in the waters for too long, they’ll get sick. Dry him off and put something to cover him.” And left.

Jeongguk looked at Taehyung and put him on the rocks, drying him off with sand. Jeongguk smiled softly he climbed up on the rocks, put the potion aside, and curled himself around the sleeping human from behind, tail wrapping around Taehyung’s front unconsciously, protecting him from all sides.

When Taehyung woke up, he was warm, and something scaly was wrapped around his legs tightly. Taehyung opened one eye, the rocks from the cave glowing. He felt an arm around his waist, and behind him was a built chest, rising and falling evenly. “Guk?” He wincened at how raw his voice was. Jeongguk groaned, pulling Taehyung closer and tightening his grip with his tail.

“Come on wake up,” Taehyung said, sitting up, but was pulled back down by Jeongguk. “Oof,” Taehyung groaned when his bare skin hit the sand. “Guk, I’m hungry.” Taehyung whined, sighing when Jeongguk unwrapped his tail from around him. Jeongguk sat up, his hair a mess.

“Ew, I feel all dry and tight.” Jeongguk grumbled as he went face first into the water. Taehyung laughed at how ungraceful he was. Jeongguk went into the deeper waters, his tail coming up and splashing Taehyung. Taehyung spluttered out sea water, gagging at how salty it was. When Jeongguk came back up, he had somethings in his hands.

“What’s that?” Taehyung asked, slowly moving towards Jeongguk, his backside in pain. “Sea fruit.” Was all Jeongguk said as he brought one up to his mouth and ate it. Taehyung took the fruit and looked at it uncertainly. It looked like a mango, just very green . Taehyung hesitated before putting it to his mouth and biting it. It was incredibly juicy, juice going down his chin and neck. Taehyung moaned at the unexpected sweetness. Inside was red, and had the texture like a grapefruit, but the taste was amazing, sweet like strawberries.

“It’s so good!” Taehyung exclaimed, eating the whole thing except for the brown seed in the middle. Jeongguk nodded in agreement, letting Taehyung take another one. Taehyung took it excitedly, and munched through it. Jeongguk watched the human fondly, Taehyung making a mess and Jeongguk in love with it. Taehyung finished it, spitting out the seed and looking up at Jeongguk. “Wha?” Taehyung asked, tilting his head to the side as he wiped his mouth with his arm.

Jeongguk smiled and brought Taehyung closer to the edge by his ankles, so his feet were resting on the second ledge. Jeongguk waited in between them, looking up at Taehyung for permission. “What? Why are you- oh god no. I’m still really sore and I don’t even have the energy-” Taehyung was cut off by Jeongguk kissing him, his tongue slipping in the human’s mouth, both had a sweet taste to it from the fruit.

“Jeongguk I swear to god if you do it,” Taehyung’s warn fell deaf on Jeongguk’s ear fins. Needless to say, they did some more things that involved Jeongguk’s back getting all scratched up from the human again, and said person had plenty of soreness and bruises on his body afterwards.

“Taehyung please?” Begged Jeongguk. Taehyung held a firm no, moving as far as the cave would let him. “No, I told you, I don't want to go for a swim.” Taehyung said, crossing his arms. “Why not?” Jeongguk asked, his doe eyes nearly making Taehyung say yes. “Because I told you that I didn’t want to fuck and you go ahead and do it, and now I’m all sore and marked up because of you.” Taehyung stuck his tongue out childlessy. “Oh, so all the moans and whimpers of ‘fuck me harder Jeongguk’ was an act?” Jeongguk smirked as he watched Taehyung’s face turn red.

Taehyung stayed silent, before running towards Jeongguk and jumped in. Taehyung spluttered out water and took the hand Jeongguk held out to him. “I hate you,” Taehyung grumbled as he hugged the merman close to him, still feeling a little helpless in the water. “I was actually thinking about going to visit Seokjin.” Jeongguk explained, wrapping an arm around Taehyung. “Seokjin?” Taehyung questioned. “The sea witch.” Jeongguk said, handing Taehyung the potion. He frowned but took it, grimiracing at the taste. Jeongguk watched Taehyung swallow it before speaking.

“Put on your pants or something.” Taehyung shrieked and ran up, limping slightly, to find his slightly damp boxers. He put them on and stepped into the water. “The potion will help you breathe underwater, and won't let your body collapse from the pressure. And it’ll keep your body warm.” Jeongguk explained, recalling what Jimin said. Taehyung looked uncertain, before he went underwater. No difference with temperature, in fact, it might’ve been warmer.

Taehyung looked at Jeongguk, who was waiting for him to breath. When Taehyung didn’t do anything, Jeongguk took the matter in his own hands. He tickled Taehyung. Taehyung bursted out laughing, then coughed as the air left his lungs and water filled them. Taehyung thought he was going to die, but when he started to breath normally, he glared at Jeongguk.

“Can you understand me?” Jeongguk asked underwater. His voice was slightly muffled, but other than that it was clear. Taehyung nodded. “I can,” His voice vibrated his chest, and it felt like he was talking underwater like normal, but it seemed Jeongguk could understand him. “Let’s go then.” Jeongguk said, taking Taehyung’s in his own and flicking his tail.

Taehyung looked down and realized that the cave was a lot deeper than he thought. Once they reached the bottom, there was a little opening at the bottom, and Taehyung looked at it, but all he saw was dark blue. Jeongguk sensed his hesitation, and reassured with by squeezing his hand and sent a small smile his way. Taehyung smiled back weakly before getting pulled along by Jeongguk. The cave was closed down, and the darker it got naturally, Taehyung could see better too.

Guess the potion gives me night vision too Taehyung thought. Taehyung saw the sea fruit that he ate a couple hours ago. The cave was really low, Taehyung felt like he was going to suffocate. The rocks were sharp and jagged, and Taehyung could easily cut himself on them if he wasn’t careful. Jeongguk’s tail kept a steady rhythm, strong, powerful thrusts propelling them forward.

They finally reached the end, and once they got out, Taehyung gasped.

Blue.

Blue was all he saw. An endless dip of blue. Taehyung looked up and saw that they was some kind of ledge, and he could see coral. It was like a drop, kinda like Nemo. Taehyung gulped, he could barely see anything, even with the potion. Jeongguk looked back and saw how scared Taehyung was. “It’s okay.” Was all Jeongguk said, and that's all Taehyung needed to hear. Taehyung nodded, and kicked his legs, barely moving, but as soon Jeongguk flicked his tail, Taehyung knew that him kicking made no difference, Jeongguk was in his element. And if something were to happen, Taehyung knew that he was fucked. They made their way down slowly, not rushing.

That is, until something appeared.

A great white in the distance, slowly swimming towards them. “Jeongguk?” Taehyung said, pulling his hand. Jeongguk looked back, and stopped swimming immediately, grabbing Taehyung and putting him behind himself, letting Taehyung use him as a body shield. “Stay behind me and make sure you don't bleed or move.” Jeongguk commanded, Taehyung nodded, staying close to the mermaid.

And to make things worse, not one, but two sharks were there. One was a great white and the other was a bull shark. Jeongguk hissed silently, tail flicking angrily, ear fins spreading out and his back fin that Taehyung totally forgot about spread out. Trying to make himself bigger than he was, and it was clear that he would fight to the death in order to protect Taehyung. Taehyung watched with wide eyes, trying to calm down a little. The two shark clearly have a plan, as they circled the two, one on either side.

Taehyung accidentally lost his balance slightly and fell forward, cutting himself on the back fin.

It was a small cut, but no matter, the sharks smelt blood, and they were hungry. Jeongguk turned around swiftly, smelling the blood as well, and saw Taehyung was as white as a sheet. He grabbed Taehyung’s shoulders and pushed him down with all his might. Taehyung shot down, at least going twenty meters down. “Go! I’ll find you! Swim down!” Was all Jeongguk could say before he attacked the bull shark, flicking his tail and hitting the side of the shark.

Taehyung had tears in his eyes, but went down as much as he could, to the point where it was pitch black. He was crying now, tears blending with the ocean. Oh god, I killed Jeongguk. Was all Taehyung could think about, because it really was Taehyung’s fault to begin with. He curled in a ball, spinning around to the point where he didn’t know if he was up or down. He was so immersed in blaming himself that he didn’t realized Jimin was swimming towards him, calling his name.

“Taehyung? Are you alright?”

“Huh?” Taehyung looked up and saw the blond mermaid. “Oh god, Jimin?” Taehyung asked still curled up. “Are you ok? You’re bleeding.” Jimin said, concern covering his handsome features. Jimin swam closer, and saw that there were four claw marks on Taehyung’s shoulder blade. ”Oh, Jeongguk must’ve clawed me accidently when he pushed me down.” Taehyung said before he realized what he said. “Oh Jeongguk!” “Where’s Jeongguk?” Jimin asked, curious as to why there was a human in the middle of the ocean by themselves. “S-sharks, a-a-and he told me to swim down a-a-a-and h-he might be dead because of me!” Taehyung screamed out, covering his face.

Jimin smiled at Taehyung and laughed. “Don’t worry he’s fine. He’s just worried about you, I can sense his aura. He’s not dead Taehyung, so don't cry.” Jimin sighed as he hugged Taehyung, who now was crying from relief. “My godness, humans are so emotional.” Jimin said, sending out his location to Jeongguk.

“W-weren't you a human once?” Taehyung asked looking up. Jimin nodded. “Many decades ago.” “Decades? You don't look that old.” Taehyung frowned. “Mercreatures don't age like humans. We age every… mmm, like for every 15 years that pass, we only age one year.” Jimin explained, frowning too. “So how old are you?” Taehyung asked as Jimin put pressure on his wound. ‘Jeongguk’s going to want to die,’ Jimin thought as he saw what Jeongguk did to Taehyung, even if it was by accident, he would blame himself.

“I am- human year- 330 years old, but in my years, I’m only 22 in my time.” Jimin laughed at Taehyung’s expression. “Close that mouth Bathyanthias with swim in there and lay their eggs.” Jimin said, confusing Taehyung. Jimin remembered his reaction when Yoongi would tell him all sorts of things about mercreatures.

“Taehyung!” Jeongguk’s muffled voice was just loud enough for Taehyung hear. “G-Guk?” Taehyung called out, turning around and saw Jeongguk’s silhouette in the distance. Taehyung gasped and swam towards Jeongguk, who had sped up immensely, reaching Taehyung in seconds even though he was meters away.

They reached each other, and they nearly crushed each others skulls with the force Jeongguk brought on. They spun around as they hugged, Taehyung crying and saying that he thought that he was dead. Jeongguk laughed wetly. “A couple of sharks wouldn't kill me Tae.” Jeongguk said, looking at Jimin. “Thanks,” mouthed, and Jimin nodded, and left. They would continue the conversation later. “Here, let me see your cut.” Jeongguk said, feeling guilty as he looked at the wound he gave Taehyung trying to protect him. “It's a clean cut, and of how cold the water really is, it won't hurt until we reach the surface. I’ll clean it later, there's nothing to use around here.” Jeongguk explained, mumbling the last bit to himself.

Taehyung nodded and was about to turn around when Jeongguk touched his back. Taehyung remembered he had a few scars on his back from the abuse his manager. The scars were fading, but they were still noticeable if you were close enough. Jeongguk sighed as he traced them gently. Taehyung shivered and turned around, looking at his mate, and smiling sadly. “I’m not going back to that place again. Don’t worry.” Jeongguk nodded and hugged Taehyung tightly, mindful of his injury.

“How much further? I’m tired.” Taehyung asked. “Here, I have an idea.” Jeongguk said. “Turn around.” Taehyung frowned, but did as he said. Jeongguk wrapped his arms around Taehyung’s torso, underneath his arms, and started to move. Taehyung’s hair went back as they sped up, he was very fast . Taehyung giggled as he felt Jeongguk’s tail brush against his legs every now and then. Taehyung remembered a while ago their conversation.

“You’re tail is so cool. ” Taehyung exclaimed, eyes sparkling, looking at the blue tail. Jeongguk huffed and he sat on the ledge of the tank. “It’s not that great.” Jeongguk grumbled, ear fins trembling slightly.

Taehyung grinned and reached out to touch it, but a strong hand gripped his wrist. Taehyung looked at the merman, his face confused. “Back in the sea, touching one's tail is very, intimate .” Jeongguk said, but then grumbled when he saw the hurt expression on Taehyung’s face. “But, I guess you could, if you’re that curious.” And Jeongguk swore he never saw anything so bright.

Taehyung smiled and touched his tail. It wasn't slimy at all, like an actual fishes, but some like a snake. The scales were larger in the middle part, and at the bottom where his fin was, they got smaller. Nearing the top, they got smaller too, they faded out into skin where Jeongguk’s stomach started. Taehyung accidently rubbed the scales the wrong way, making him cringe as he nearly cut up his palm. Jeongguk scoffed as Taehyung did that, letting the human learn himself to not do that in the future. Taehyung ran his hand up to Jeongguk’s crotch, but he didn't know that but Jeongguk did.

“That’s enough!” Jeongguk yelled out suddenly, making Taehyung pull his hand back at the sudden shout. Taehyung looked at the mermaid, and looked where he was. Jeongguk had ran away, going in the tank and hiding in his little cave. Taehyung’s lips twitched, knowing that he did something to fluster the mermaid, but didn’t know what. Taehyung could only wish that Jeongguk actually like him the he did.

“Tae?” Jeongguk’s voice brought him back to the current time. “Oh, yeah?” Taehyung asked, looking back at Jeongguk. “We reached the floor.” Jeongguk explained, letting Taehyung go. Taehyung looked around and realized that they were on the bottom of the ocean .

“What the fuck.” Taehyung said, looking around. The seaweed was green, growing here and there. There was some fish around, some terrifying ones, eels with teeth bigger than their bodies . But that exactly what caught his attention. What caught his attention was the herd of mermaids. It was a colony, with homes and families. Tiny merchildren swam around, chasing each other, or creepy fish. Taehyung gasped, it was so beautiful. The glowing rocks were all around the town, the same ones that were in the cave at the surface. The amount of mermaids here was astonishing.

“Jeongguk! Glad to see you made it!” Jimin waved at his best friend, swimming over. “How did you get here so quick?” Taehyung questioned, touching the sand with his feet. It was soft, but slimy.

“I’m a small for a mermaid, but the lighter you are, you faster you are. Jeongguk is one of the stronger mermaids, but thats cause he’s fat.” Jimin laughed. “Excuse me! I have better abs than you.” Jeongguk said, crossing his arms childly. Jimin only laughed. “It’s ok Guk, you’re not that fat.” Taehyung squealed when Jeongguk hissed playfully, and Jimin grabbed his arms, swimming away, laughing.

The other mermaid watched as the trio caused a ruckus, not that surprised to see a human. Many of the mermaids have given up eating humans, but some remained. Though, they weren’t part of this clan, so Taehyung didn’t need to worry about anyone eating him.

Jimin let Jeongguk catch up to him, just to see what would happen. Jeongguk caught up to them, and grabbed Taehyung’s ankle and pulled him from Jimin’s grip. Taehyung squealed as Jeongguk hugged him, tickling him.

Bubbles came out of Taehyung’s mouth, and then he was coughing.

More bubbles came, and Taehyung grabbed his chest as he felt the pressure of the sea crack his ribs. Jeongguk stopped when he realized something was terribly wrong with Taehyung. Blood came out from his mouth as his ribs cut something inside him. “Taehyung?” Jeongguk asked, eyes wide with fear.

“Somebody get Seokjin!” Jimin yelled at the other people, making them go find the sea witch. Taehyung was slowly suffocating, him gasping for air that was no longer there. “Taehyung!” Jeongguk yelled, gripping Taehyung and tried to figure what what was happening.

“The potion must be running out. Any air in his body will be compressed. He’ll be crushed.” Jimin said, eyes wide as he held Taehyung’s face in his hands. “Tae? You’re okay, help is coming.”

But Taehyung couldn’t hear anything. There was too much pain, it felt like he was being crushed, his chest and head feeling pressured. The pain was so intense, Taehyung couldn't feel anything else. His vision was going black, and it wasn’t the potion wearing off. He saw Jimin, and then he saw Jeongguk. His mouth was moving, but nothing was coming out. Water was filling his lungs, and the pressure increased.

He passed out.

Taehyung gasped for air and he was in pain . He felt like his throat and lungs felt raw, and he felt his chest expanding to normal. Taehyung opened his eyes, and saw a handsome man, but he was unfamiliar. “Hello Taehyung, you coming back to us?” The man said, a sweet voice. Taehyung groaned and rolled over to see where he was.

The last thing he remembered was passing out after being suffocated by the ocean. He looked around him, and saw Jeongguk, hands on some kind of glass. Taehyung scrambled to his knees and crawled carefully to his mate, watching Jeongguk cry as he saw Taehyung was alive once more. “J-Jeongguk?” Taehyung’s raspy voice brought him to the attention of how thirsty he was. He grabbed his throat with his hand, and winced, looking at the mermaid. Jeongguk mouthed that words “You’re ok,” and Taehyung nodded.

Taehyung looked behind him when the man cleared his throat. But, it was all man. His torso was, just like a mermaid, but instead of a fishes tail, he had an octopus. Taehyung raised an eyebrow as he scanned over the man. “I’m Seokjin.” The man said, smiling. “This is nothing like Ariel.” Taehyung said out loud. “What’s that?” Seokjin asked, confused. “Uh, it’s nothing, so what happened?” Taehyung asked, leaning against the glass-thing, Jeongguk on the other side.

“The potion ran out. The ocean crushed your body, and I resurrected you.” Seokjin explained. Taehyung stayed silent for a minute. “By resurrected, you mean that I died?” Taehyung said slowly, looking Jeongguk behind him. Jeongguk swallowed, smiling softly and putting his hand back on the glass. Taehyung put his over Jeongguk’s.

“And what’s this thing? ” Taehyung guestered at the glass. “It’s a bubble. It’s what’s keeping you alive. The ocean’s pressure isn't able to do anything in here.” Seokjin said and Taehyung made a small ‘o’ with his mouth. “So, uh, I’m guessing you know why I came in the first place?” Taehyung asked shyly. Seokjin nodded. “I do, but…”

Jeongguk thought that he would die. No, Taehyung did die, but Seokjin brought him back, and they were now in a bubble, talking amongst themselves. When Taehyung stopping struggling and Jeongguk could hear his heart stop, Jeongguk fell apart. Jimin had to fight him not to do anything stupid, like try and kill himself.

But then Seokjin came and brought Taehyung back. Jeongguk felt like he could breathe again, when he saw Taehyung cough. But now that Taehyung was back, he couldn't even hear his voice. The bubble was soundproof, and all Jeongguk knew was whatever Seokjin was telling Taehyung was upsetting him.

Eventually Taehyung slumped and nodded his head, making Seokjin give him the same potion, and Taehyung drank it, before bowing and said something. Seokjin only shook his head and smiled. The bubble slowly disappeared and Taehyung turned around, looking at Jeongguk. He seemed quite upset, and Jeongguk wanted to touch him so badly, but he knew that Taehyung was in charge this second.

Taehyung floated, staring at Jeongguk. “You good?” Jeongguk asked, staying a good distance away. Taehyung nodded, and opened his arms. “Come,” And Jeongguk did, he swam into Taehyung’s arms, and hugged him close, tears coming out of his eyes and blending in with the water.

“You died,” Jeongguk sobbed, pulling his mate closer to him.

“I know,” Taehyung said, running his fingers through Jeongguk’s floating hair.

“You were gone Taehyung.”

“I know,” Taehyung said again.

Seokjin stayed for a few more seconds before he nodded at Taehyung and left, Jimin trailing after him, talking to him about something. “What did you and him talk about?” Jeongguk asked after they pulled away. Taehyung sighed. “Let’s go back to the surface. I want to go home.” Taehyung spoke softly.

Jeongguk nodded and took his hand, going up. They were silent the whole time, neither wanting to speak about what happened. When they finally reached the cave, Taehyung coughed up water, his lungs spilling the water out, and bringing air in. Taehyung cleared his throat a few times, coughing here and there. Jeongguk helped Taehyung get up, and he sat down on the second ledge, looking at his mate.

“So why are you still human? Did you change your mind?” Jeongguk straight up asked. Taehyung took a deep breath, and let it out. “I haven’t changed my mind Jeongguk. I still want to be with you for as long as I can. But what happened down there,” Taehyung shook his head.

“Seokjin gave a year's time. If I still want to become one of you, I can only do it in a year.” Taehyung explained, looking at Jeongguk’s reaction. “That’s stupid.” Jeongguk frowned. ‘Seokjin has never done that before.”

“Yeah well my case was a little different.” Taehyung spat out. Jeongguk was taken back at how hostile was. “What’s your problem?” Jeongguk asked, his temper was slowly rising. “My problem is that I died! Jeongguk I died, and you expect me to just completely forget about that?” Taehyung yelled, standing up on weak legs.

Jeongguk really would never be able to have a conversation with Taehyung in his boxers, but this time was different. “Of course not! I may not be human Taehyung but I can understand where you’re coming from Tae.” Jeongguk argued.

“So? What do you expect me to do now?” Taehyung explode. Jeongguk flinched back, before glaring at him. “Nothing Taehyung. I want nothing from you.” Jeongguk shot back, knowing that later, he’s going to regret saying it. “So then if I go up and leave, you won’t care?” Taehyung yelled back, crossing his arms.

“What happened down there was not my fault.” Taehyung said before Jeongguk could answer his other question.

“So it’s my fault? It’s my fault you died, right?” Jeongguk’s gaze darkened, and not in a good way. “I’m not saying that.” Taehyung said. “Then what are you saying Taehyung?” Jeongguk asked calmly. “I’m saying that, that would have never had happen if you-” “If you haven't met me, is that what you were going to say?” Jeongguk cut in.

“Oh yeah, that’s totally what I was gonna say.” Taehyung scoffed. “Then what were you going to say? Hmm?” Jeongguk raised an eyebrow, waiting for an answer. Taehyung stayed silent, face red with frustration, the veins in his neck showing.

“This is stupid. Go fuck yourself, you shit.” Taehyung spat out, instantly regretting it as he saw the look on Jeongguk’s face.

“You know what Taehyung? You can leave . I don’t need you.”

And with that, Jeongguk left, both holding their chests in pain as their bond broke.

The first week was difficult. Taehyung was constantly in pain, physically and mentally. He had to move back in the place where he worked, his beatings grew more and more frequent. The manager always asked him what happened to the mermaid, and Taehyung said that he had no idea, and no one believed him. Taehyung really did try to forget Jeongguk, but even in his dreams he would see him. Taehyung knew that they fought for the dumbest of reasons, and he wanted to fix it, but he didn’t know if Jeongguk would forgive him. Taehyung sighed as he walked around the tank that once held Jeongguk. Taehyung winced and held his chest, it felt like every time his heart beat, it stung. Taehyung felt tears prick the back of his eyes, and he felt the lump in his throat appear. Taehyung’s chin wobbled, and he dropped to his knees, and cried out. He clutched his chest as the pain grew, and he cried out Jeongguk’s name, sobbing how sorry he was.

Jeongguk wouldn’t eat, he wouldn’t do anything but stay on his hole, not talking. Jimin was worried for his friend, and he knew what needed to happen, he just didn’t know how to do it. Jimin looked at Jeongguk, who was finally sleeping, but that didn’t mean it was a good rest. When Jeongguk did sleep, he would often be plagued by nightmares. “What are you going to do?” Yoongi asked, swimming over, tail flicking lazily.

Jimin sighed and pinched the bridge of his nose, leaning against his mate when he wrapped an arm around Jimin’s waist. “I don’t know. I remember when we fought and our bond broke, I felt like I was dying. Seokjin told me it was because I was human, it hurt me more. I nearly did die, remember that?” Jimin sighed looking at Yoongi.

“I do, and it's something I’ll never forgive myself for.” Yoongi said, remembering every detail. Jimin’s heart had given out, and Yoongi never felt so lonely in his life. “I hope that kid’s ok.” Yoongi exhaled, looking at the sleeping merman. “Yeah, me too,”

Three weeks and Taehyung couldn’t do it anymore. Sometimes he would collapse from the pain in his chest, but nothing could compare to the amount of loss he was feeling. He felt so lost, and everything was his fault. He never intended to snap at Jeongguk, but the things he saw. Taehyung would never be able to forget what happened to him, he was just so stressed out that he snapped at Jeongguk and said things he could never take back.

Taehyung sniffed as the pain died down, but he knew it was going to come back soon. Taehyung got up and weak legs, and ran to his car, and drove. He drove to the one place he hoped to see Jeongguk.

He ran to the cave, the pain coming back slowly. Taehyung gasped and clutched his chest, and he stumbled down the cave, reaching the end. “J-Jeongguk?” Taehyung yelled out, his voice bouncing off the walls, but no one showed up. Taehyung tripped to the water, waiting for Jeongguk to pop up and tell him that everything was okay.

Taehyung went down to his knees, gasping in pain. “Shit,” He hissed, before screaming out for Jeongguk. He felt the pain grow even more, and he went down on all fours, keeping one hand to his chest, hoping to sooth the pain. Taehyung screamed once more, but this time it was in pure pain, and he dropped on his side, withering in pain.

Taehyung couldn’t breathe, it seemed as if every breath he took made the pain worse. Taehyung shook, closing his eyes and tried to think of something else. “Taehyung?” But he had already blacked out.

Taehyung groaned as he came back, feeling warm. Taehyung sighed and snuggled against the soft warmness. Taehyung stilled for a second, because something didn’t seem right. “Nothing, I deserve it anyways.” Taehyung mumbled, wincing as the pain came back again. Jimin frowned. “No, don’t say that. It’s not your fault, alright?” Jimin said, upset that the human would even think that. Taehyung huffed and relaxed in Jimin’s arms. “I-I just wanna say that I’m sorry. “I-I’m sorry,” Taehyung whispered, not being able to look Jeongguk in the eye, staring at the ground. “That’s it?” Jeongguk raised an eyebrow, and scoffed. Taehyung brought his knees to his chest, and wrapped his arms around himself. Jeongguk made a move to leave, when Taehyung shouted, “Wait!”
