Chapter Text
"Stupid old hag!" Katsuki ran to his mother's hospital room. She had accidentally cut herself while cooking and needed to get stitches. "Which fucking room!?" Katsuki stopped to observe each room number. "207? I think this is it." Katsuki shoved open the door. "How fucking deep did you cut-" Katsuki barged in and began yelling but quickly stopped when he realized he wasn't in the correct room.
A short boy with green fluffy hair and a face full of freckles, turned and stared at Katsuki. He was shaking and Katsuki felt a bit embarrassed. "T-thank you f-for visiting me. I'm really happy, e-even though I don't know who you are..." The freckled boy blushed and gave Katsuki a small smile. "What the fuck? Why are you thanking me?" Katsuki raised an eyebrow.
"No one ever visits me... B-but I'm glad you did! I-I'm not complaining or anything! I don't want to be a bother to anyone but it's still a bit lonely like this... When you first came in I was a bit scared b-but then when you seemed worried about me cutting myself, I assumed the doctor sent you to comfort me. You don't really look like a doctor or a therapist so I was a little confused. You look really young, are you a-"
"Holy fuck, do you ever shut up?" Katsuki interrupted the smaller boy’s awkward mumbling. "S-sorry... I didn't mean to do it intentionally. What's your name? I-I'm Midoriya Izuku." He turned away flushing. "Yeah, I'm in the wrong fucking room." Katsuki turned around and slammed the door shut.
Izuku stared at the door with wide eyes and sighed. He could feel tears rushing to his eyes. Whether they were tears of joy from having a visitor, or sadness because the blonde boy had left unexpectedly fast, was unknown to him.
Katsuki opened the door to room 217 which, thankfully, was the correct room. "Old hag! How the hell did you cut yourself that badly!?" Katsuki sat down beside his father angrily. "I was chopping some onions and I closed my eyes for two seconds, and then next thing I knew my arm was bleeding like crazy! I didn't think it would cut so deeply!" Mitsuki seemed to be in a pretty good mood for someone who just hurt themselves. The nurse came in with paperwork and they soon got ready to leave the hospital.
"Oi! Old hag, I'll be back in like 5 minutes." Katsuki yelled before quickly leaving the room. He stopped at room 207 and knocked on the door. "C-come in!" Izuku shouted with a soft voice. "Ah- You came back!" Izuku's face lit up and he smiled brightly. "I only came back because you made me feel fucking guilty!" Katsuki pulled a chair towards Izuku's bed and sat down beside him.
Katsuki checked his phone and Izuku quietly watched him. After minutes of uncomfortable silence, Izuku finally spoke up. "C-can we be f-f-f" Katsuki looked away from his phone and watched Izuku stutter over his words. "The fuck?" Izuku stopped talking and looked at his own lap. There was even more uncomfortable silence now and Izuku was afraid to look at Katsuki.
"Fucking weird." Katsuki mumbled quietly. After a few minutes Izuku turned to Katsuki. "C-can w-we... Can we be friends!?" Izuku shouted with a little more confidence. "Whatever, I don't care." Katsuki rolled his eyes. "Is that a yes!?" Izuku's jaw dropped when Katsuki shrugged his shoulders and then did a small nod. "You're my first friend..." Izuku said in a soft voice.
Fat tears rolled down Izuku's freckled cheeks and Katsuki almost panicked. He was terrible at comforting people and he usually made them feel worse when he did try. "H-hey! Stop fucking crying!" Katsuki jumped out of his seat and started rubbing away Izuku's tears. Izuku flinched but then allowed Katsuki to roughly wipe at his cheeks.
Izuku giggled and grabbed Katsuki's shoulders. "These are happy tears. Thank you for being my f-friend. Can you p-please help me get to my wheelchair?" Izuku blushed from being so close to Katsuki's face. "Yeah." Katsuki lifted Izuku off the bed and Izuku squealed. "W-wha!? You didn't have to carry me!" Izuku was bright red. He could feel Katsuki's muscles flex underneath his small body. "How the hell are you gonna walk to your wheelchair idiot?" Izuku hadn't thought about that.
Katsuki placed Izuku in his wheelchair. "So where are we going?" Katsuki asked as he sent a text message to his parents. He had told them he'd be gone for five minutes but it's been way more than five minutes and he honestly was having fun with Izuku. "I want t-to go to someplace peaceful. Maybe the garden?" Izuku began muttering to himself and Katsuki ignored him. By the time Izuku was done muttering, Katsuki had already talked to Izuku's doctor and took him out to the backyard of the hospital.
"We're here Deku." Katsuki sat down on a bench in front of Izuku. "H-huh? Deku?" Izuku tilted his head to the side in confusion. "Yeah. That's your name right? Deku?" He leaned back into the bench and rested his elbow behind him. "It's Izuku!" The smaller boy laughed a little. "Same shit! I was just giving you a fucking nickname okay!" Katsuki blushed in embarrassment. "W-what's your name?" Izuku watched a butterfly in the grass.
"Katsuki."
"K-Ka-Katsuchan... Suki... Kacchan!" Izuku looked like he just solved the world's hardest puzzle. "Don't give me a nickname stupid Deku!" Katsuki thought it was really cute but there was no way he was gonna actually say it so he pretended like he didn't enjoy it. "But you gave me a nickname! Please Kacchan- I mean Katsuki!" Izuku pouted. "Fine! Call me whatever the fuck you want!" Katsuki rolled his eyes and grunted although he was smiling like an idiot on the inside. "T-thank you for letting me call you Kacchan, even though you don't like it..." Izuku smiled shyly. "I guess I don't hate it completely." Katsuki shrugged. " Anyway, what do you like?" He changed the subject before Izuku could realize what he just said. "All Might!! He's the world's greatest hero, the symbol of peace!" Izuku shouted excitedly.
Katsuki almost laughed at Izuku's contagious cheerfulness. "All Might is my teacher. He says stupid shit to try and fit in. One time he tried to dab and almost broke the wall." He smirked, remember All Might's clumsiness. "Y-you know All Might!? Do you go to UA!?" Izuku nearly squealed with excitement. "Yeah, it's nothing special really. My quirk is so fucking amazing, it'd be impossible for someone like me to go to some shitty school." Katsuki's pride was practically shining off his body. "Oh? What's your quirk?" The freckled boy asked.
Holding up his hand, Katsuki made tiny explosions. "Fucking Awesome right?" He smirked with confidence. "Y-yes! It's so cool, Kacchan!" Izuku silently prayed that Katsuki wouldn't ask him what his quirk wa-
"What's your quirk?"
Oh. Telling someone he's quirkless is on the top of Izuku's list of things he hates to talk about. Izuku must have been silent for too long because Katsuki poked his cheek. "Earth to Deku? I'm asking you a question, ya stupid nerd."
"I-I'm... Q-quirkless..." Izuku whimpered softly. Katsuki just barely heard what Izuku said. "Oh... I guess that makes you pretty fucking special, huh? It's rare to meet someone who doesn't have a quirk." Katsuki's voice was much softer than usual. "B-but I'm a quirkless l-loser... I d-deserve t-to d-d-die..." Midoriya quietly sobbed. "What the fuck? I just told you you're special so you're fucking special okay!? If you keep crying I'll... Throw a bug at your face?" The red eyed teen lightly placed his hand on Izuku's head and ruffled his messy hair. A tiny laugh escaped Izuku's mouth. "T-thank y-you!
A small part of Katsuki was only saying that out of pity, the other part said that because that's his job as a friend. He's Izuku's friend- Izuku's first and only friend. Katsuki barely knew anything about Izuku, but he knows he has absolutely no confidence in himself.
An overwhelming amount of curiosity took over and Katsuki, he really wanted to know why someone like Izuku was in the hospital. "Deku, what happened to you? Why are you all bruised up?" Okay, maybe that sounded a little rude and Katsuki should probably be minding his own business. "I-I get bullied a lot..." Izuku bit his lip nervously. "What the hell!? Who the fuck hurt you so badly that you got sent here!? I'll fucking kill them!" Smoke surrounded Katsuki's hands, causing Izuku to flinch slightly. "W-well... No one... S-sent me here... I-I t-tried to k-k-kill m-myself..." Izuku looked like a child who was being scolded by his mother. "Oh- fuck- I'm sorry for asking..." Katsuki avoided eye contact with the other for a few seconds. "It's all my fault... I-If only I hadn't j-jumped... I w-wouldn't have c-c-" Izuku was crying (again).
"Deku... Look at me." Katsuki lifted Izuku's chin. "It's not your fault. You didn't deserve to be treated like shit over something you have no control over." Katsuki pulled Izuku close and rested Izuku's head on his chest.
"K-Kacchan, t-thank-"
"Shut up, nerd. You don't have to thank me for everything." Katsuki whispered softly in Izuku's ear. He could see the other boys ears flush red from being so close. "You're fucking adorable." Katsuki laughed. "W-w-what!? I'm no- Kacchan!" Katsuki tickled Izuku's sides playfully. "Ah- That tickles!" Izuku giggled as he attempted to push Katsuki away.
"Now that you're done crying like a little bitch, let's try something."
"Try what?"
"Close your eyes."
"O-okay?"
"Don't open them until I tell you to."
"Oka-"
Izuku yelped as Katsuki threw a beetle at his face. Katsuki held his stomach and laughed. “T-that isn't funny, Kacchan!” Izuku pouted. He watched the bug fly away until he couldn't see it anymore. “That beetle was really pretty.” He smiled and closed his eyes, taking in all the nature around him. Katsuki's phone suddenly started ringing. He angrily snatched his phone out his pocket and answered.
"The fuck do you want?"
"Hey, Bakubro! Where the heck are you!?" Oh great, it's Shitty Hair.
"Somewhere minding my own business."
"Don't be mean. C'mon bro, we're waiting for you!"
"Waiting for what?" Katsuki raised his eyebrows.
"Did you forget about our study session!? Bro... I'm hurt..." Kirishima said jokingly.
"I'm hanging up."
"Wait! It was just a joke! Don't ha-"
Katsuki ended the call and sighed. "Kacchan?" Izuku tilted his head. "I gotta go. Bye, Deku."
"Holy fucking shit, you're a idiot!" Katsuki hit Kirishima on the head with a book. "Can we take a break? Please." Kaminari begged. "Hell no! You're not taking a break until you memorize the whole fucking book!" Katsuki slammed the book down in front of Kirishima and Kaminari. "D-dude, that book has like a million pages, how are we supposed to memorize this in one night!?" Kirishima complained and Kaminari nodded in agreement. "Maybe if you two shitheads stopped complaining, you'd be finished by now!" Katsuki opened his notebook and began writing. "Alright, listen up. Answer these questions I wrote down, if you get them correct I'll let you have a break." Katsuki slid his notebook across the table and Kaminari and Kirishima began writing in their own notebooks.
While the other boys desperately tried to answer the question Katsuki had assigned, Katsuki checked his phone. "Fuck." He mumbled under his breath. He forgot to ask Izuku for his number. He somehow found himself on Google, he was doing research on suicide and ways to help when Kirishima slammed his pen down happily and shouted.
Kaminari jumped a bit from the sudden noise. "I figured it out! Bakubro, look!" Kirishima held his paper up like it was a medal and smiled. "Is it right!?" Kaminari took the paper from his hands and looked over it. "Of course it's right! I checked over it before I got too excited!" Kirishima pointed as his paper with confidence. "Let me see." Katsuki reached for the paper and read over it. "The fuck? This is wrong." Katsuki crumbled up the paper and tossed it at Kirishima.
Kirishima blinked. "What!? It's totally right! How do we know if you're not the one who's incorrect!?" Kirishima sulked and Kaminari laughed at his stupidity. "Because I already know how to do this shit. This is basic work, you're just an idiot. If you were paying attention, you'd notice it was the same problem Present Mic showed us yesterday as an example." Katsuki rested his chin on his palm and went back to his research.
After hours of overworking Shitty Hair and Dunce Face, Katsuki finally let them leave his room. They grabbed a late night snack, then the three of them called it a night.
"You seem a lot happier than usual, Midoriya-kun!" Izuku's nurse stopped by Izuku's room early in the morning to check up on him. "Y-yeah, I actually am a bit happy." Izuku gave her a sleepy smile. "Is it because your boyfriend?" The nurse nudged him lightly and Izuku blushed. "Eh!? W-what do you mean b-b-boyf-friend!?" Izuku covered his face in embarrassment. "Oh, c'mon! You think I didn't see you two having a little date?" She laughed and Izuku began stuttering in shock.
“W-we are not dating!” Izuku didn't even know if he'd ever see Katsuki again. Katsuki left him with no contact information. Izuku began muttering and the nurse awkwardly left the room.
Izuku snapped out of his trance when she returned to his room with breakfast. "Midoriya-kun, don't forget to breathe. Here, I got you some breakfast. Eat up!" She smiled and then left the room.
Izuku picked at his omurice quietly. In a few days, he'd be discharged from the hospital and he probably won't see Katsuki again unless he visits soon.
Pushing his tray aside, Izuku made himself comfortable again and closed his eyes. He wasn't really tired but if he went back to sleep he wouldn't have to think about what life will be like once he leaves. He'd just be back in the same school, with the same bullies. What would school be like now that everyone knows he's not only quirkless, but also suicidal? Would they stop bullying him, or would it get worse? He most likely had gotten his former bullies in a lot of trouble. They probably hate him even more now... Izuku slowly drifted to sleep with those dark thoughts stuck in his head.
