Chapter 1: cartoons

Chapter Text

Taehyung is fifteen, Yoongi is seventeen. Yoongi is moving out to the big city to go study there. The two families had a big get together to celebrate. Taehyung and Yoongi hadn't really hung out that much these last few years. They've never really been that close either, but they were the closest in age out of all the kids from the two families, so they used to get stuck together quite a lot. They'd usually run off somewhere and Yoongi would show Taehyung what music he found that he thought was cool right now and Taehyung would try to impress Yoongi by doing everything the elder dared him to do.

Yoongi found Taehyung a little weird, but he knew the younger had a lot of friends and was considered a cool kid at his school.

Taehyung knew Yoongi didn't have much friends, but he still thought he was the coolest person out there. But it had been a while since the last time they hung out and left the family gathering to get into trouble together.

Taehyung had missed this clearly, because his eyes had lit up the moment Yoongi had suggested they go outside together. Maybe Yoongi had missed this too. A little bit.

They were sitting on the bridge by the Min's house, their legs dangling over the pond, their reflection blurred and wavy from the slight breeze disturbing the water. Yoongi had brought his speaker with him, the deep bass of Kendrick's Cartoons and Cereals echoing through the park, adding a little something dreamlike to the moment.

Taehyung takes a glimpse at Yoongi's profile, trying his best to be discreet.

Yoongi's growing up. He's seventeen and going to Uni. His jaw is getting more defined everyday. He lost a lot of his baby cheeks and his cheekbones are poking out now. Even his neck looks manlier, even his haircut seems more mature.

It makes Taehyung feel a lot like a kid.

Yoongi starts bopping his head to the chorus, mumbling the lyrics under his breath. His hair is bouncing lightly on his forehead ...

and Taehyung has a crush on Yoongi. It hits him. Slowly, like a deep wave. Crashing and swallowing his heart whole. It tickles the back of his ears and the tips of his fingers.

Taehyung has a crush on Yoongi.

He thinks maybe it's been a while he's felt this way, but he didn't really know before right this moment. Before he knew he wouldn't see Yoongi for a long time. He thinks, maybe next time he'll see Yoongi, the elder will have an older, much cooler lover from the big city. Someone Taehyung could never compete against.

But right now, he knows he could probably kiss Yoongi.

Actually, Yoongi would possibly hit him in the face but maybe, just maybe, Yoongi might just kiss him back.

Taehyung knew he looked good. He'd been told all his life how handsome he was. He also knew Yoongi liked boys as well as girls. He'd known ever since Yoongi got into a fight with his brother, one family dinner, after Dongwoo had stated not getting why gay people had to be so loud about their sexual orientation and how they should just "keep it to themselves". Yoongi had then hissed something, tears in his eyes while arguing with his brother until Dongwoo had very clumsily asked Yoongi what his problem was and if he was "a faggot or something like that". Yoongi had flailed outside, crashing his chair on the floor, stunning the entire family. Yoongi's dad had looked at Dongwoo with very scary eyes.

"What?" had said Dongwoo, as if he didn't have a clue what he had done wrong.

Mrs. Min had exhaled sharply while Taehyung had run after Yoongi. He consoled him as well as he could. He held his hand and let him cry as much as he had to. Yoongi even screamed at the pond. Taehyung knew that must've been hard for him. His brother's words must've hurt a lot. Because Yoongi never raised his voice. Taehyung wanted to tell him something, anything. Maybe just two small words. Something like "Me too". But he wasn't really sure about that yet and he wasn't really ready either. That was two years ago. Taehyung still remembers though.

And so, he takes a big breath and flicks Yoongi on his elfin thigh.

Yoongi grunts, but he doesn't move or look at him.

So, Taehyung flicks him again, harder this time.

Yoongi yelps and shoves Taehyung with a pointy elbow.

"The fuck" he says, finally glancing at Taehyung.

"Do you think you'd like to kiss with me?"

Yoongi is stunned. Taehyung is looking at him with his big doe eyes and the ghost of an innocent smile on his lips. Yoongi knows what he's heard, but he almost doesn't believe it. He almost wants to ask Taehyung to repeat himself. But he doesn't. He's scared to hear the childish words again. Taehyung could've said "Let's kiss" or even "Wanna kiss?", anything that would've been much more casual and much more ordinary than this. But...it's Taehyung. So, of course, he had to go and formulate his question like this.

Yoongi has never kissed anyone yet. He could have a couple times at least: in a party last summer or after graduation if he had really wanted to. He wasn't popular, but he knew some girls who thought he was mysterious and that made him alluring somehow. He's been told he's somewhat attractive too. But he has never really wanted to kiss anyone before. Right now, he doesn't even know if he wants to kiss Taehyung. He's good looking but...it's Taehyung. Their families are so close, he's practically his cousin. They've known eachother for fifteen years.

But he's not stupid and he sees the way Taehyung looks at him sometimes. He sees the admiration, he sees the adoration the younger boy treats him with. He's also a little lightheaded from the joint he smoked earlier. He could definitely blame it all on the weed if he had to.

And he could also undoubtedly do with making Taehyung's night with just a kiss.

So, he cuts the small distance between them, right until Taehyung's nose bumps into his.

Yoongi is right there. Taehyung can't even look at him, because it makes him cross-eyed. He can feel his breath on him though. It's hot and humid and it smells like weed and the pesto salad from dinner. He also feels Yoongi's hand on his own. He's smashing it on the bridge's concrete.  It doesn't exactly hurt, but it's very real and very intense. Yoongi's palm's a little sweaty. Taehyung's heart is beating really fast. Taehyung feels like Yoongi might be waiting for him to make the final move. So, he does.

Taehyung has kissed people before. He's kissed girls just for fun and he had a steady girlfriend a couple months ago and they kissed quite a lot. He even kissed two boys on a dare at a party last summer. So, he thinks he's pretty confident when he goes for it.

He closes his eyes and he presses his lips softly on Yoongi's. Yoongi's mouth is plush but bumpy; the elder has a bad habit of chewing on his lips when he's anxious. Which is most of the time.

He stops the kiss. Opens his eyes again. Wonders if Yoongi liked it.

And then the other boy goes in again.

Roughly.

With a strong hand behind his neck.

Taehyung suddenly doesn't feel so confident anymore.

He's never kissed with so much tongue before. His last girlfriend didn't really like that. But now, he feels Yoongi's ardent one darting past his lips and when he opens his mouth, it's everywhere.

Without a warning, his cheeks are burning up, his neck and his chest too. He feels warmth pool inside his lower belly. It feels like sticky honey, it feels like almost too much. Yoongi is everywhere. He feels a bit dizzy.

Then Yoongi slows down. It's dirty, the kiss is deliberate and measured and relaxed. Their tongues go impossibly slow, sliding together languidly. Their lips are slick with spit and Taehyung hears Yoongi moan and Taehyung is hard. Then Yoongi stops completely and pulls away.

Yoongi searches for Taehyung's eyes, but they're still closed.

Under Taehyung's tan skin, Yoongi catches a slight blush, the dark magenta contrasting with the golden shine of his complexion.

Yoongi feels smug, but also shy. He wanted the kiss to be good and Taehyung's lips were so supple and tasted like some sort of strawberry lip-gloss. It felt good. Taehyung opens his eyes and he looks star struck. A faint "Wow" tumbles from his lips.

Yoongi snorts and turns away. He dabs at the spit on his chin with his sleeve while Taehyung wiggles around a little before settling and letting out a deep sigh.

"I'm gonna miss you" he says, voice cracking at the end of his sentence, from being emotional or maybe just from being a fifteen-year-old boy going through puberty.

Yoongi doesn't say anything, he makes a soft sound. He doesn't know if he's going to miss Taehyung, but he's happy his first kiss was with him.

And he's happy he knows he's good at kissing now.

He feels good.

Yoongi is seventeen and he's moving out to the big city and he's going to Uni and he's going to kiss a bunch of guys and girls and he's going to be good at it.

He gets up slowly, his knees cracking a little. He gives a hand to Taehyung to help him up. Taehyung smiles at him.

They giggle together before going back to the Min's house.
