Fire

Summary:

Ieyasu's POV of that one moment in Masamune's route

Work Text:

For one year she had been missing. Returned to the future from where she came from, they said. It sounded absolutely ridiculous to me, but I couldn’t figure out why they would all tell such a story, if it wasn’t true. And now she is back, just sitting there, still as bright and happy as before, still drawing everyone’s eyes to her, and still as madly in love with Masamune as ever. The sake tastes bitter on my lips.

Had I dared to dream of her, this last year? No, absolutely not. Had I seen glimpses of her, whenever my eyes closed? Thought about what it would feel like to hold her? To have her smile at me the way she smiles at him? Of course not. My eyes find her, flicker over her as she sits there, chatting and drinking with Mitsuhide. Shit. I down another cup of sake and decide to get myself some fresh air. Maybe being away from her will allow me to think straight for a moment.

I only sit at the veranda for a few moments, before I hear the sliding door open again. I should have known they wouldn’t let me escape. “Mind if I sit out here too?” Naturally, it is the voice of the one person I’m trying to get away from. I only manage to grumble a “Whatever.” On the inside I curse myself. Earlier today, I was barely able to answer her greeting with one word too.

Usually she was the one to fill the silence between us with words, but not today. Is she mad at me? No, now that I think about it, she seemed kind of troubled before too, when she was talking to Mitsuhide. Of course, talking to Mitsuhide does that to people. As she sighs, I cannot hold back anymore. “You’re not chattering like a magpie. What’s wrong?” Ouch. Why does everything I say sound like an insult? “You can tell?” She doesn’t seem to bother though, as she starts to tell me her concerns. “I thought it was weird that it didn’t faze Masamune when Nobunaga made a pass at me.” So she is still angry about that stupid joke Nobunaga made earlier? “It made me wonder if he ever got jealous.” Wait, what? “That’s the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever heard.” I barely stop myself from speaking the rest of my thought out loud too: What kind of idiot wouldn’t be jealous if you were his? I am disgusted by the thought of Masamune not treating a woman like her the way she deserves. Of course she misunderstands my remark. “Yeah. It really is pretty dumb. The only reason it bothers me is because I get jealous sometimes. When I think about him kissing someone else, it just sticks in my head.” Well, I guess it kind of makes sense, when you consider the two of them have been separated for a whole year.

“Hmm, I have an idea.” I look intently at her, considering a truly bad idea. “I’m listening.” “If you want to know if he gets jealous or not, you’ll need something that actually looks suggestive.” She pales a little as she realizes what I’m saying. “Ieyasu, are you ACTUALLY suggesting we let him walk in on something?” I guess I am. Hot fire burns in me, as I quickly push her down to lying on the floor. “Yeah, like this.” Oh, how I have dreamed to have her under me like this. My hands linger on her shoulders, desperately wishing to wander. “If he sees this –“ My voice only comes out as a whisper.

I hear the steps, before I hear the door sliding open. Of course, the dragon noticed the absence of his little kitten and comes looking for her. “MC?” For a moment he looks shocked. Is that the jealousy you were looking for? She turns her head to him. “Haha, looks like you caught us, Masamune!” God, she’s a terrible actor. She couldn’t tell a lie, if her life depended on it. It makes the fire in my chest flare up even more. “Guess our love affair is over, Ieyasu!” A slight blush on her cheeks compels me to give into my primal urges for a moment. “It is?” I ask with a husky voice. It’s only to help her with her troubles, I try to tell myself – in vain. “You told me you wanted this.” I grin down at her, ambitiously. “What?! I did not!” Blushing, she freezes up under me.

The spell is finally broken by Masamune’s laugh. “You two look like you’re having fun.” His confident smile holds a tiny hint of a threat. “Right, Ieyasu?” “… Fun. Yeah. Sure.” I look at him quietly. Seems like her worries are without cause. She doesn’t see it, however. “Well, thanks, Ieyasu. Looks like even this didn’t work though.” The disappointment in her voice makes me want to scream at her. Is she blind? I sit up and sigh deeply. “Look, just –“ “Yeah?” I turn away. Suddenly I can’t handle the situation anymore. I need to get out of here. “Stop fretting and just ask him.” I grumble as I walk away, the fire blazing in my chest, more antagonizing than ever.
