Love and Loss

Summary:

Why is it that I could hate myself for loving you, but never stop loving you?

Work Text:

Who would have known it would hurt this much?

Clearly not Taehyung.

He never suspected that what they had would explode into such a mess that not only did the group begin to face problems but also random peers who never wanted to join in on the sick game that they had started.

But for them it wasn’t sick.

It was just them.

~

It was just an ordinary Tuesday, the bell had just rang to dismiss the classes to head to lunch but Taehyung was held up by a large hand holding his throat tightly.

“J-jeongguk...please,” he murmured quietly as he tried to press their lips together but the younger being mentioned turned his face towards the mirror on the wall. Their hair was stuck tightly to their foreheads and you could see the tent that was evident in both their pants.

“Please what?” Jeongguk said with a smirk as he leaned forward and pressed his lips against the honey colored neck that he loved so much. He let his tongue swirl over the most recent mark from a person he didn’t know.

“Please k-kiss me.” Taehyung whimpered out as he felt Jeongguk’s teeth dig into the soft skin of his neck. He bit onto his bottom lip to stop the moan that wanted so badly to come out.

Jeongguk pulled away, his lips mere centimeters away from Taehyung’s bright red ones. Their breaths mingled together as Jeongguk held that cocky smirk that always pissed off the older.

“Why should I when you decide to be a whore like this?” Jeongguk growls as he moves his hand from the neck and placed it on the side of Taehyung’s hips that was unoccupied. The grip was hard but Jeongguk knew that Taehyung liked it hard.

“You can’t pull that card Jeongguk.” Taehyung said in a serious voice as he straightened his back against the wall and stared into the eyes of the younger.

“What card can I not pull, baby boy?” Jeongguk said in a coinciding voice as he stared at him with equal power. It was a war zone between their gaze, all from a simple statement.

“That fucking card about me fucking around. You do too. Don’t think that when we fuck I don’t see the other marks or see how when you leave to get food, you come back with hickies from who knows what whore.” Taehyung said as he pushed Jeongguk’s hands off of him. He was fuming and he knew he had a right but should he have really been that mad?

Once he was freed from the grasp of the younger, he pushed the muscular man away from him and stormed out of the closet that they were in.

The walk to the cafeteria was filled with so many angry thoughts but they didn’t start angry, they were sad first. Sad that he couldn’t express what he wanted with Jeongguk, he wanted to be monogamous.

By the time he walked into the cafeteria, he was completely changed as if the interaction between him and Jeongguk didn’t even happen.

“Hey TaeTae!” Jimin yells from their table placed conveniently in the center of the cafeteria.

Park Jimin, his best friend in the whole wide world. The one person besides Jeongguk who knew him like the back of their hand. The only person who knew that Taehyung actually liked Jeongguk not just for the sex but for his personality. The one person he trusted with every secret he had, no matter how big or small.

“Hey baby!” Taehyung smiled as he yelled back, everyone and he meant everyone turned around to look at him. He was used to it.

It had began happening the summer entering high school. It was all because he changed from the ugly duckling that he was in middle school to the prince that he was now in high school. But he never changed. He was still the same quirky boy that he was in middle school but the only thing that changed was his physical features.

Jimin got up happily from where he sat next to his boyfriend and ran over to Taehyung with a bright smile on his face. Taehyung wrapped his arms around his best friend and buried his face in the smallers shoulder.

No one in school knew who was actual together. There were just rumors on who was actually dating who.

Taehyung and Jimin were supposedly for sure dating.

How wrong they were.

“Gukkie?” Jimin whispered softly so only Taehyung could hear, everyone’s eyes were still on them. Watching their every move to see if they actually were together.

Taehyung shook his head slowly and Jimin nodded into his chest as he pulled away and grabbed the youngers hand to lead him towards the table which was covered in food provided by all the people sat there.

“Tae, lemme guess you were with Guk.” Jin, the eldest, said and Taehyung rolled his eyes as he sat down next to Jimin and rested his head against his best friend. He was tired, he still felt mad but he wouldn’t show it, he wouldn’t let whatever he had with Jeongguk get in between him and his friends.

“He’s tired Jinnie, let him rest.” Jimin said and Jin nodded as he slid him a plate which was piled with all his favorite foods. He saw that there was also a plate for Jeongguk who had not yet come back.

All Taehyung could think about while he ate was whereabouts of Jeongguk.

“Namu, what was the homework for Sociology?” Taehyung murmured as he moved to his side and rested his head on Namjoon’s shoulder.

“Nothing just to study for the new case study. It was that whale one.” Namjoon said with a soft smile as he ran his long fingers through Taehyung’s long ashy gray hair.

“What are you doing?” The youngest said in a dark voice as he walked closer to their group. Taehyung opened his eyes and looked at Jeongguk who was standing at the front of the table with a scowl placed on his face, he could see the fresh hickies peaking out of his jacket. He knew that the next time they fucked, his scratches wouldn’t be the only ones on his back.

“Nothing Guk. Baby boy is tired.” Jimin said as he scooted closer to Taehyung and wrapped an arm around his waist so there was no way for Jeongguk to sit next to the younger.

The whole group was able to hear the growl that came out of him. It was low but very noticeable.

Yoongi got up quickly and walked over to Jeongguk and dragged him away after grabbing the plate of food prepared by Jin for the youngest.

“What is happening between you two? He never used to get like this.” Hoseok asked as he looked at Taehyung who had his eyes cracked open to see only a bit of what was happening.

“Nothing, Guk is being over dramatic as per usual.” Jimin said as he kept his grip on Taehyung. He would not let anyone hurt him, even his own friend.

~

Guk ;)
-Please I’m sorry. You know how I feel. I wish I could tell you how I feel. I love you.-

Tonight or your still being a little bitch?

“Why do you do that?” Yoongi asked as he ran his hand through the youngers hair, he wasn’t shaking anymore and the tears had finally stopped.

“Because I can’t have him know. I would rather have whatever the fuck this shit is then have him completely leave me. Once he knew how I felt he’ll leave. I’m too fucked up to date someone as great as him.” Jeongguk said as he buried his face back in the olders chest and threw his phone against the mat.

He smiled sadly as he remembered the time in freshman year when him and Tae had a race for class and got super worn out that they fell asleep against the mats that him and Yoongi were on. The boys found them cuddled together and took a picture, that was his lock screen for his laptop for the longest time.

“Why don't you just tell him? We've been friends with him for years. I know he won't just push you away.” Yoongi said as he continued to run his fingers through the youngers hair, hoping to calm him down.

“I-I can't...I know he won't accept me like that. He's only ever seen me as a good fuck.” Jeongguk murmurs softly against the olders chest, he could hear the bell ringing but he didn't want to get up. He had Taehyung in most of his classes after the bell, he didn't want to face him.

“Come on bub, you need to get to class.” Yoongi said as he lightly pushed the younger out of his lap before getting up and helping Guk up. His hands were clammy as they grabbed his phone, he didn't know what he was doing.

"Please don't skip class okay? I don't need to get another call from the school saying that you have a lot of absences." Yoongi said quietly into the youngers ear before patting his back and walking off towards his class.

Jeongguk stood in the doorway as his eyes scanned the room.

No sign of Taehyung yet.

Jeongguk took his seat in the back of the class as he got all his materials out for class. He was almost completely done when he heard the familiar giggle, he didn't expect to see the older hanging off of a guy he didn't recognize.

Why was he surprised?

He quickly grabbed all the stuff he took out before shoving it into his bag. He slung the backpack over his shoulder before heading out the door. His eyes met Taehyung's on the way out but that urged his feet to go faster.

Jeongguk walked to the top of the school where he laid staring at the sky, the sky was dark. It looked like it was going to rain but he didn't care.

The drops fell slowly before turning to a hard shower but Jeongguk stayed on the floor with his hands and legs stretched out as his eyes remained closed, thinking of how he got to be where he was at.

It was maybe 2 or 3 years ago that it started. The two best friends were craving a sexual experience but neither knew anyone who would want to do anything. That was when they came up with the idea to fuck in the name of science or some Bullshit that they used to convince the other. They did it but they never stopped. It kept going and soon Jeongguk developed feelings but people also wanted Taehyung and he started to sleep around, so in return Jeongguk did the same.

"Only if I had told you then that I loved you. Would it have been different? Would your hand be in mine instead of his? Would I be able to call you the forbidden word of mine?" Jeongguk sang softly as the rain poured down on him.

He loved the rain because he felt like someone was there to cry alongside him, someone was there to care for him.

"Maybe if I went back things would be different. We would be different. Would you have liked that?"

"I hate that I love you. I hate that I couldn't gain that courage to tell you. I would change it all if I had the option too."

He didn't hear the door open, he didn't sense the clenching of a heart that shouldn't have heard what was being said.

"I wish I could tell you the love I felt for you. That those glances aren't of friendship but of relationship. I wish you would see through different lenses."

"I wish you would love me the way I loved you."

Jeongguk didn't leave the roof until he knew that school was done and that everyone would be gone. He didn't want anyone to see him, the way he was. Broken and vulnerable.

A side no one had ever seen.

Only Yoongi.

He gripped the rail as he walked down the stairs, his eyes were half closed as he stumbled down the flight of stairs that led down to the main level.

"I wish...I wish.." He muttered softly, he covered his nose as he let out a soft sneeze.

"Bless you." Taehyung said quietly as he walked up to the younger. His hands placed in a jacket that he knew didn't belong to him.

"May I help you?" Jeongguk asked as he tried to walk away but was grabbed by the olders hand which kept him in his place.

"You are gonna get sick. Lemme take you home." Taehyung said and Jeongguk shuddered at the mention of home. He squeezed his fist tightly as he pulled his arm out of the grasp.

"No. I do not want to go home. Home is a place of happiness right Taehyung? You would take me to a house. There is no happiness anymore. Father and mother decided to leave, unannounced as always. They took Woo and Jia with them. I don't live their anymore. I wont live in that house but it's not like they care. It's not like anyone cares." Jeongguk said, his voice was detached from his body. He felt numb at the mention of recent events that had him living with his best friend.

"Guk, why didn't you tell me?" Taehyung asked as his eyes began to burn from fighting back tears. He knew how much Woo and Jia mattered to Guk. They were his younger siblings, his babies.

"Why didn't I tell you? Because why would you care! You don't care for me! I'm just a fuck buddy and I know you don't care for your fuck buddies at all!" Jeongguk yelled and he watched as Taehyung shuddered from the loudness, he never was a fan of loud.

"I do care for you! What do you mean!?" He yelled back as the tears began to brim his eyes, he walked towards the male wanting to calm him down but Jeongguk only backed away.

"No you don't. You don't care for me at all. You hurt me everyday. Your own friend can break your heart. "He said as he continued to back away, he couldn't do it.

He couldn't.

"I love you! I love you so fucking much. Why don't you see that!?" Jeongguk yelled as the tears finally decided to fall, the dam broke and there was no end in sight for the tears.

Weren't you supposed to feel relieved after confessing?

He didn't. Not one bit.

Not as he watched the olders face drop and a tear slide down his face. Taehyung turned on his heel and ran out of the building.

Running until his lungs felt like they would burst, maybe if he kept running he wouldn't feel the ache in his heart. Replace one ache with another.

His knees gave out and soon he was falling into the grass, his pants getting stained green. His shoulders shook as sobs racked through his body.

How could he have been so stupid?

Jeongguk broke the one rule.

The one sacred rule.

The big three words.

I love you.

"God, I love you too. I love you so fucking much it hurts sometimes. " Jeongguk says quietly to the ghost of Taehyung. He turns around quickly and slams his fist roughly against the wall, he hears the crack but he doesn't feel it. He only feels the pain of his heart breaking into pieces.

What was he thinking breaking their one rule.

His fists continued to slam against the brick of the school walls, painting the white with red. He didn't stop, not until Yoongi found him, sobbing as he continued to fight with the wall.

"Gukkie, please come on. Stop." Yoongi said as he pulled the younger away from his trance of pain and allowed him to bury himself into his chest.

"H-he doesn't love me. H-he doesn't care..." He sobbed into his best friends chest as he clenched onto the jacket.

It hurt Yoongi to see his best friend like that. Sobbing his heart out.

They didn't talk. Not for days, days turned to weeks. If the other knew that they would be there then they wouldn't go. They divided the group in their journey of love.

"How are they?" Jin asked quietly as he rested his head on Hobi's shoulder, they were tired. Whenever one was there, they were silent, it wasn't even like they were there.

"Horrible." Jimin and Yoongi said in unison, they both bonded over the fact of two broken dumbasses.

"Jeongguk doesn't eat anymore, he stopped going to class and spends most of his nights and days at his uncles bar. It isn't only Taehyung that hurt him. He went home that night because he didn't want to see me and he saw that the house that he lived in his whole life was for sale now. His parents took his babies and left and he doesn't know where they are. He doesn't know where he is." Yoongi explained as he rubbed his fingers over the forming scabs from the fight he had gotten into with Jeongguk in the first few days.

"Tae doesn't do anything. He comes to school but he's just a zombie. Not having Jeongguk really is hurting him but he can't admit it. He can't admit that he loves him to anyone besides me. He's scared if he does then everything will crash. You know how his family used to drill it into him that being gay was bad. It stuck with him, no matter how many times I tried to take it out." Jimin said as he glanced to Taehyung who was passing by the entrance of the cafeteria. He didn't stop to wave but just continued walking.

"We need to stop this guys. They can't continue like this. They both need each other, they need to-"

"Yes this is Min Yoongi... Fuck okay I'm on my way." Yoongi stood up quickly as he grabbed his bag.

"Jeongguk got into a fight and it was really bad but he isn't himself. He's crying out for Tae. Chim I need you to get him, he needs Tae." Yoongi said quickly before running out of the cafeteria and towards his car.

Jeongguk hadn't had a slip like that in months. They used to be more frequent back then but they somehow slowed down.

Jimin quickly got up and rushed out looking for Taehyung, everyone else split up to go follow after Yoongi. They needed to be there for Jeongguk.

"Tae! Tae please where are you!" Jimin yelled as he ran around the school looking for his best friend. He found him sat under a tree with his sketch book in hand.

"Tae I need you to get in the car right now please." Jimin begged and Taehyung looked up at him slowly before getting up and walking over with a small stumble here and there.

The ride was filled with uncutable tension. It grew as Taehyung recognized where they were going. He felt his heart race and tried to open the locked door.

"No. He needs to see you. He slipped again. He needs you." Jimin stated in a serious voice as they pulled up to Yoongi's house and dragged Taehyung inside.

Everyone was around the couch and on the couch was a bruised Jeongguk who was passed out from pain.

"Someone who looked like Tae was getting bullied and he protected them but the guy was much bigger." Yoongi explained loudly as Taehyung cut through the group and fell to his knees beside Jeongguk.

"You dumb butt. What were you doing?" Taehyung chuckled as tears fell from his face, they landed on their intertwined hands.

"You wake up soon you hear? I have so much I need to tell you. So much stuff I never got to say." He murmured as he leaned forward to place his face on the youngers chest.

"I love you."

It took weeks for the duo to fix their damaged friendship but it took even longer for them to grow to trust each other to reveal their feelings. When it finally did happen, everyone was ecstatic to find out the game had finally ended.

The game of love and loss. If you fucked around you would lose feelings but love doesn't follow rules. It makes it own and the couple learned that the hard way.
