Work Text:

Hello, and Merry Christmas. Today we are going to learn about Jimin’s most favourite Christmas.

Jimin was a hardworking detective. He always makes sure that he has enough evidence to testify at court, and is extremely courteous when interviewing criminals, who, in the end, confess to their crimes because Jimin is just too darn cute! So yes, Jimin is a hardworking, and an amazing detective/genius.

Too bad his captain seems to hate him.

Min Yoongi, Seoul's first gay captain, is in charge of Jimin’s precinct. And he was the bane of jJmin’s existence. Jimin’s pile of work always tripled whenever Yoongi passed his desk, and he was always criticized when the captain was in a bad mood.

Min Yoongi seems to hate Jimin. Too bad Jimin is whipped for the moody, but somehow extremely attractive captain.

“Here, these need to be completed by today,” Yoongi said as he tossed yet another stack of forms on Jimin’s desk. Looking at the rapidly growing pile of work, Jimin couldnt help but sigh. Hearing that, Min Yoongi glared at Jimin, who shivered under his writhing gaze. “You have anything to say, Detective Park? Anything you want to ask me?” said the captain, smirking at how frightened the younger looked. Jimin glanced at his pile of work, and back at Yoongi, and decided to take a chance. “It’s just, I think the workload is being split unevenly, Captain. I think I’m getting too much paperwork. The other detectives have a lot less work than what I have, and today’s Christmas Eve-”

“You dont want to waste your Christmas Eve? Oh how sweet of you,” said Yoongi, with a sickly smile on his face. “Okay Detective Park, tell me this. Do you have anyone to spend Christmas Eve with?” the captain asked, his eyes glinting with malice.

“Uh, no I don’t Sir, I’m not spending Christmas Eve with anyone,” said Jimin, not realising he had fallen right into the devious captain’s trap.

“Well, I don’t have anyone to spend Christmas Eve with too…” said the captain, plastering a sad expression on his face (this caused Jimin to melt inside, but don’t tell anyone)

As Jimin sat at his desk, not understanding what was about to come, he thought, “Wow, he’s so attractive, yet he doesnt have a boyfriend. Oh god I’m gonna remain single for the rest of my pathetic life”

Just as he finished his internal monologue, the captain made an announcement to the precinct. “Detectives, finish up the case you are working on. Detective Park and I have both made plans to spend Christmas Eve together, finishing up the paperwork for all the leftover cases you may have.”

Jimin was shocked. His eyes made his way over to the captain’s face, before they retreated because “Wow captain min looks extremely hot while smirking.”

“Merry christmas, Detective Park, I hope you like my Christmas present to you.” said the captain, before winking at poor Jimin (who was definitely going to have a heart attack) and then retreating to his office (or as the detectives liked to call it, the devil’s lair)

Now, poor Jimin was about to cry. Looking at the stack of work left to do, he sighed. “ I guess I should message Tae that I won’t be able to visit his house tomorrow to open presents” he decided, before picking up his phone to message his best friend

Jimin smiled at the antics of his best friend. He never fails to make the pain in Jimin’s heart decrease, even if its by a little bit. Looking back at his humongous pile of work, he decided that he better start on his work.

It was going to be a long, long night.

A few hours later

It was 10.38p.m, and all was quiet in the precinct. All that could be heard is the cooing of the night birds, the clattering of Jimin typing, and the slight snoring coming from the devil’s lair. Jimin could barely keep his eyes open. He had been working on these cases for 4 hours straight, and now all the words on the screen were starting to blur together.

“Captain said we were going work together. Now, he’s sleeping. Fuvking sleeping.” Jimin complained to himself, while rubbing his eyes to try and stop them from closing. Peeking at the clock, he realised that it was probably time for a break, and decided that the most productive way to spend his self-allocated break, was to read through the case files, so that he could quickly type in the details and finish up the paperwork, so that he could go home, to the comfort of his bed and sleep.

As he looked through the cases, his eyes landed on a specific file, which looked like it had seen better days. It had coffee stains all over the front, and was significantly rumpled and aged. It also had a “cold case” stamp on it, which perked up his interest in seeing what was inside that specific file. He felt like a naughty child as he opened up the file, and found out that there were more newspaper clippings than official papers in it.

Jimin’s curiosity continued to grow. Why was this file so...empty? What secrets were hidden? What case was this? He had so many questions he needed answers to.

As he reached to pick up one of the newspaper clippings to find out what case it was, a pale, veiny hand reached out and grabbed the file off his desk. Jimin jumped back in shock, and then met eyes with the very livid captain.

“You’re supposed to be working, Detective Park, not snooping around looking at cases you’re not involved in,” the captain said, his steely eyes set in a death glare. Jimin gulped, because his crush on the captain and his anger at being given overtime aside, Captain Min was one exceptionally frightened man. Jimin’s hands started shaking, as he tried to think of how to respond to his current situation. Even as millions of scenarios ran through his head, he saw the captain sigh, and shake his head.

“I-I’m sorry Captain, I was just taking a break and was reading through the files when I saw that one and it was so weird because it was in a bad condition as compared to the other files so I decided to read it and-”

“It’s fine, Detective Park. Must have been the shitty uniformed cops who put this file here. Anyway, this belongs in the cold cases section, don't worry your pretty little head about it,” the captain said, with much less anger and sarcasm than what Jimin had expected, leaving the younger shocked because was the captain being nice? in this economy?

“Close your mouth, you’ll catch flies Detective,” the captain said, and if that didn't shock Jimin, the giggle, yes giggle, that the usually stoic captain had let out caused Jimin to practically question his whole existence. “Y-yes captain,” Jimin whispered, whilst looking at the retreating captain’s figure.

It took Jimin 2 minutes to stabilise his emotions, because what the fvck was that? His heart was doing cartwheels everywhere, and his face was the shade of a ripe tomato. That moment, exactly, was when Jimin realised that oh no, I like Min Yoongi.

It was safe to say that after Yoongi left Jimin to mull in his conflicted feelings, he didn't get a lot of work done. Every time he opened a new case, all he could imagine was the captain snatching the file off his table, staring at him with a gaze that seemed to look into Jimin’s soul. Sighing, the poor detective decided to take a coffee break.

As he got up from his seat, a piece of paper fell from his lap to the floor. It was one of the newspaper clippings from the special case file. Jimin, ever so curious, knew that he shouldn't be looking at such a classified piece of information. Yet, he couldn't help himself, because what was so important in that file, that the captain personally went to search for it?

Jimin was startled by the title of the article, “Son who committed gruesome double murder suddenly off the grid, leaving behind orphaned younger brother”. As he read the article, Jimin eyes started to tear up. His heart clenched at the horrors which were depicted in the article. Most of all, it hurt to know that Min Yoongi had gone through such a turbulent past. His heart ached for the losses the captain had gone through. The young orphan who had lost his entire family was none other than his captain.

Guilt filled Jimin’s body. He felt as if he had invaded the captain’s privacy. Yet, he knew that he had to pass the article to the captain, because withholding information and evidence was a crime, and he didn't want to have a criminal record at such a young age. He decided that he would go to Yoongi’s office and pass him the article, and explain what had happened.

Things didn't go as planned though. As soon as Jimin entered the captain’s office, images of the young captain attending his parent’s funeral flashed through his mind, and he couldn't stop the tears from flowing. Seeing Jimin openly sob in his office, Yoongi was puzzled and slightly startled. “Uh, Jimi- I mean Detective, are you alright?” asked the captain, extremely confused at why the detective had approached him in the first place, let alone start sobbing.

Hearing that, Jimin started to calm down, remembering why he was in the office. “Captain. I found this article on the floor, I think it belongs in the case you took of my desk just now,” he whimpered, not able to meet the captain’s gaze. Yoongi. He handed over the article to the captain, uttering apologies, before sprinting out of his office to his desk.

Yoongi was still confused, even as Jimin sat down at his desk and started to stare at his computer screen. It all started to make sense only after he saw the article. Sighing, Yoongi closed his eyes. He didnt want this information to be disclosed to anyone, especially the younger, because Yoongi had feelings for the cute, pink-haired detective. “What will he think of me now?” pondered Yoongi.

Yoongi exited his office, determined to fix Jimin’s perception of him. He never would have imagined that at that exact moment, Jimin was internally freaking out, thinking that his captain is going to think that he’s a bad detective. The both of them were ignorant to the fact that both of them had feelings for the other.

Yoongi walked up to the younger with purpose, his shoes clattering along the empty precinct. Jimin gulped, wondering whether that was the day he got demoted back to a uniformed cop.

“Detective, did you read the article?” Yoongi asked, suprisingly formally, which sent shivers down Jimin’s spine. Yoongi’s face was hard to read, and Jimin didnt know whether he was single-handedly ruining his whole career when he said, “Yes, sir.”

Yoongi ran his hand through his ink-black hair, before letting out a soft sigh. “Can we drop the formality for a second Jimin?” Yoongi asked softly.

“Um, sure..?” Jimin replied, confused at the sudden change of Yoongi’s mood.

Yoongi sat on Jimin’s desk, facing forwards so that he was looking over Jimin’s head. “Look Jimin, I dont want you thinking that I’m supposed to be pitied or anything. Just because I have a turbulent past doesnt mean that I’m any less apt at being your captain. Im still me, okay?” Yoongi said, catching Jimin off guard.

Jimin was shell shocked for a good minute or two, before he managed to let out a soft response. “I dont think youre weak at all, Yoongi. In fact, I think youre the strongest person I’ve ever seen in my life. Going through such an incident but still managing to get through it and be successful in your career isnt something ordinary. It takes tremendous effort and strength to even get out of bed in that sorr of situation, and the fact that you managed to remain in control of your actions after that and came to such a level is honestly so amazing. I’ve never looked down on you, in fact I think youre the most amazing person that has ever existed, and to make it even worse I kind of like you and that just makes me more stressed-”

“Wait, Jimin, you like me?” Yoongi cut off Jimin’s rambling with that question, and that was when Jimin realised that he had just confessed to his captain that he has a crush on the elder. Jimin’s cheeks turned as red a a tomato, and he couldn’t bear to even look at the captain anymore.

“Yes,” Jimin whispered, as he stared at the ground, wishing that it would open up and swallow him whole. He felt as if his world had come crashing down, all his plans of getting over his crush and actually keeping his job had just been thrown out the window. He expected the captain to scream at him about how unprofessional that was and how he was a disgrace to the entire precinct and to the police force in general, and then kick him out of the detectives team, suspend him for 3 months and then degrade him to a cop. Maybe even fire him completely.

He did not expect, however, for the captain to clutch his face with his hands (his long, veiny hands) and to slowly turn it towards him. Contrary to Jimin’s imagination, the captain’s face had none of the anger and disappointment he had expected to see. Instead, his face was unaturally soft and calm, something that was rarely seen. Yoongi smiled at Jimin, wowing the younger with how beautiful the older looked while showing off his perfect and adorable teeth.

“Jimin, the only reason I didnt want your perception of me changing was because I didnt want you to think that I was any less of a man. I didnt want you to think that I was weak or anything. The truth is, I still havent found the person who murdered my parents, my brother, and I just felt that I was missing something from the case. I decided to dig out the case file from cold cases and look over it, but it found its way to your desk instead. Anyway, I wanted to ask you, do you want to be my partner in this case, I’m not going to lie, youre one of he best detectives I’ve ever seen. So, do you want to work on this case with me?” Yoongi said, making Jimin die a little on the inside because “He just changed the subject. He doesnt like me.”

“Definitely, it would be an honour,” Jimin said half heartedly. His heart had sunk, and he felt very very rejected.

“That’s great, thanks Jimin,” Yoongi replied, and then started walking towards his office. Jimin put his head in his hands, and started to rethink all his life choices.

“Oh, and Jimin? Youre going to finish up the case youre working on and then meet me in my office. Then, we are going to go out to a bar and get to know each other better, because I like you too. Captain’s orders. Merry christmas Jimin” said Yoongi cheerfully. Looking up at the clock, Jimin realised that it was part 12 midnight. Relief flooded through his veins as he realised that he was being asked out on a date by u8ao8fMin Yoongi himself. “Yes, captain,” he said, a sfmall smile finally coming across his face. He then turned back to his computer, suddenly motivated to finish the case off in record speed. “He likes me, he really does,” he thought, soaking up the euphoria he felt from the past few minutes.

And that, everyone, was the best Christmas the both of them experienced.
