Notes:

Work Text:

The first time Furuya went to that little coffee shop the server had been a small boy with pink hair that covered his eyes, who he later learned was named Haruichi. He had been dragged there by his roommate Sawamura because Chris had recommended the coffee there, and anything Chris recommends is automatically amazing according to him. Furuya had stood there awkwardly while Sawamura chatted away with Haruichi until he was given his coffee. Yes, it was amazing, but that didn't mean he was going to come back. Furuya hated places like this. They were damp and crowded and he never knew what to do or say in these situations. So, he was relieved when Sawamura finally agreed to leave, waving a cheery goodbye to small boy who had the beginnings of a blush spread across his face.

The second time Furuya went it was just so Sawamura could see that cute little server again and maybe get his number. Furuya would be annoyed at him if he didn't know that Sawamura had absolutely no ill intentions and only wanted to talk to the boy more. To be honest, the server had been nice and maybe Furuya could manage to be friends with him too. After all, he somehow managed to be friends with Sawamura despite it taking almost all his energy just to keep up with the boy. When they arrived at the coffee shop a guy who was dressed in a server's uniform had been leaving. All he did was walk by him and smile - well a sort of smile, more like a smirk - and that was all it took for Furuya to become completely infatuated with his stupid, beautiful face.

Sawamura bounded inside shouting, "Harucchi!" and Furuya could somewhat hear the boys confused response to the sudden nickname, but he ignored them. All he could think about was boy who had walked by a second ago with his slight smirk and warm brown eyes.

"Who was that?" he interjected into Haruichi and Sawamura's energetic conversation.

"Wha-"

"Furuya! Don't just interrupt people like that!" Right. He'd forgotten how loud Sawamura was.

"It's all right Eijun," Eijun? Furuya wondered when those two had gotten on a first name basis. "Do you mean the server who just left? The one with glasses?" Had he been wearing glasses? Oh yeah, he had been. Furuya had been too concerned with his gorgeous eyes to notice. He curtly nodded in response. "That's Miyuki. Miyuki Kazuya. He's a part-timer here and just finished his shift. Why?"

"No reason," he said simply and ordered his drink. Miyuki. His name was Miyuki. Well, Furuya certainly had a reason to come back now.

He did come back, but Miyuki wasn't there. Haruichi was. He didn't realize his disappointment was so obvious until Haruichi questioned him about it. Furuya embarrassingly admitted that he was hoping to meet Miyuki since he was curious about him. Haruichi smiled softly and told him that Miyuki's schedule was kind of random, but he did work every Sunday afternoon.

"Sunday?"

"Yeah, he's going to university right now so it's hard for him to work during the week and Saturdays he gets together with his old baseball team, but he makes sure to work Sundays."

"Really? He plays baseball?"

"Yep! He was a catcher in high school. He was on the same team as my brother, who owns this place. That's why he's so lenient with his schedule."

"I played baseball," Furuya confessed."I was a pitcher."

"Oh, really?" Haruichi chuckled, "you guys are perfect match then, aren't you?" He gave him a reassuring smile and Furuya blushed. Maybe, but Furuya didn't want to get his hopes up just yet.

After that, Furuya had almost gone back to the coffee shop many times, but had never actually gone in it. He wasn't good at these kind of things. Talking to people and what not. So, it was standing in front of the shop, debating whether or not to go in, where he was found.

"Whatchya just standing there for dude?" He turned toward the voice and before him was a young man who looked a bit like a delinquent, especially with that scowl plastered across his face. He was holding a box with the words coffee beans printed on it. "Are you going in or what? If not could you move so I can get in? I've gotta make this delivery."

"Oh, um…yeah, I'm going in," he sputtered out.

"Great! Get a move on then."

"Uh…right." This guy definitely made him nervous.

The bell on the rang out as they entered. The place was rather empty that day, with only a few people scattered about. And then Furuya saw him. Right there behind the counter was Miyuki Kazuya.

"Oooh, look who the cat dragged in, it's Mr. Delivery Man" Miyuki cooed. Shit, his voice was beautiful too. This wasn't good for Furuya's heart.

"Shut up Miyuki!" the delinquent shouted. "Where's Ryo? I've got his coffee beans out back," he added holding up the box.

"I'm not stupid enough to let you two be alone, Kuramochi. Not again." The aptly named Kuramochi turned bright red and started fumbling with the box in his hands. Furuya was actually worried he might drop it.

"I-I apologized for that! I didn't think you'd come in!" Miyuki let out a soft chuckle as he leaned on the counter, placing his chin in his hand.

"That's no excuse, Kuramochi. You shouldn't be fraternizing with your customers." He let out a hearty laugh at that and all Furuya could do was stare at him. That is until a small hand came from behind and chopped Miyuki on the head.

"Miyuki. Get back to work. There's a customer." A small pink haired man, smaller than Haruichi, appeared from behind Miyuki and although his eyes were closed Furuya could tell he was glaring.

"Ouch!" Miyuki yelped then looked at Furuya and smiled. "Welcome," he said in a sickeningly sweet voice that he couldn't help but laugh out loud at. "What?" he asked incredulously.

"Nothing," he said, "It's just, you did a complete turnaround once you were talking to me." Miyuki smirked then, a sinfully gorgeous smirk that sent shivers down Furuya's spine.

"Well," he said, leaning even further onto the counter, "you're much better to look at." Furuya was pretty sure he was beet red now as he searched his mind for something cool to say in response. Fortunately, he didn't have to. Before he could say anything the man named Ryo jabbed Miyuki in the side with his elbow.

"Don't flirt with customers." Miyuki doubled over clutching his side.

"I don't want to hear that from you!" he shouted at Ryo as the man made his way around the counter. Ryo walked towards Kuramochi with his hands behind his back, a small smirk barely noticeable on his face. He wrapped his hand around Kuramochi's free one and held it up to his lips.

"Kuramochi is a special case," he said before pressing his lips on the back of Kuramochi's hand, who in turn looked like he was about to pass out. Ryo lead Kuramochi by the hand through a door to the back of the shop. Miyuki was laughing as he looked over at Furuya.

"Sorry about them."

"Uh, no, it's fine. I just…wasn't expecting that." Miyuki laughed again. A single, hearty laugh and Furuya loved it. He wanted to hear it again and again.

"They've been together for a long time so I'm used to it, but they can be a little much can't they?" Furuya nodded as he approached the counter. Now that he was closer Furuya could see Miyuki's dimples as he smiled. He could see his thin sideburns and the way his glasses were just slightly crooked. His breath hitched in the back of his throat. He didn't really know what to do after this point. How do people actually flirt with other people? He could barely make casual conversation let alone flirt. What was he supposed to say? "Well? What'll you have?" Miyuki interrupted his inner panic attack.

"Um, coffee." Miyuki chuckled.

"I figured as much. What kind? We do have more than one."

"Uh, black. Just black, thank you." Great. He completely messed up. Now he looks like a total idiot. Miyuki just smiled, took his money for payment, and left to start making his coffee. They stood in silence until Miyuki placed a cup of hot coffee on the counter in front of him. He leaned forward on his elbows and grinned at Furuya as he picked up the cup. Furuya looked down, not sure what to do with so much attention focused on him. "Um…" he started.

"You're Sawamura's friend right? Furuya, isn’t it?" Furuya almost dropped his cup in surprise.

"Uh, yeah. How did you-" he was cut off by Miyuki's laugh.

"He comes in here a lot you know. Always flirting with Haruichi, in front of his older brother and everything," he jutted his thumb towards the back the back of the shop to emphasize his last phrase.

"You mean the small, scary man? He's Haruichi's brother? Well, they do look similar." Miyuki threw his head back and laughed and Furuya could feel himself smiling.

"He's pretty terrifying isn't he," he choked out between laughs, "but yeah, they're brothers, and he's pretty protective of him. Although I have to say, little 'Harucchi' seems to have taken a liking to the idiot. No offense" Miyuki put a emphasis on the little nickname Sawamura had started calling the boy. Furuya shook his head.

"No, he is an idiot. A really loud one. I do remember Haruchi being a little flustered the first time we came in here, though."

"Really?" Miyuki covered his face with his hand to hide his giggling, "that's adorable. Aren't kids precious?" He gave Furuya a toothy grin and he could feel himself blushing. They were having a conversation! Was this working? Was he actually flirting? He could feel himself getting a little more confident.

"That doesn't explain how you know who I am, though."

"Well," Miyuki started, leaning closer to Furuya, "Haruichi said that Sawamura's friend was asking about me," he gave another grin showing off his perfect teeth. Wow, Furuya really had it bad. "So, I asked for a description and Sawamura showed me a picture and, I gotta say, you look even better in person." Miyuki moved back from the counter and winked at him. Furuya felt his whole body flush. They talked about him? Miyuki had been curious about him too? Wait, does this mean he knew about Furuya's little crush? Oh God, what the hell was he supposed to say?

"Um, well…uh…about that," Miyuki held up his hand for him to stop.

"Calm down, it's fine. I'm only teasing you. It's not like I thought you were seriously into me." Furuya's heart dropped. Of course. Who was he kidding. There's no way a guy like Miyuki would actually be interested in him. "But, you know," he said, bringing Furuya's attention back to him, "for what's it worth, you are my type."

"Wha-" Seriously? Does that mean he had a chance? Miyuki gave him another small smile before he grabbed a rag and began to wipe down the counter. They stood there in silence again. What should he say? He's never been in this situation before! "Um-" Just then, the door to the back room swung open to reveal Ryo, and a very flustered Kuramochi behind him. Ryo looked over at Furuya, then at Miyuki.

"Don't make customers feel uncomfortable, Miyuki," he stated simply.

"I'm not! Am I?" he looked unsurely at Furuya who quickly waved his hand to deny it.

"No!" That was louder than he intended it to be. "Sorry," he said quieter, "no, um, you're fine. I'm not uncomfortable." Miyuki grinned at him again and God he could used to that.

"That's good," Ryo said. "Miyuki has a tendency to say whatever's on his mind without any regard for other people's feelings." Miyuki cringed.

"Look who's talking!" he barked back. All he got was small grin and a hum from Ryo, but Furuya saw him shiver from that look. This guy was seriously scary. Kuramochi, who seemed to have recovered from whatever had happened in the back room, leaned one elbow on the counter.

"He didn't say anything rude to you did he? This guy can be nasty."

"Jeez, why are you guys trying to make me look bad?" Miyuki whined.

"That's impossible," Furuya said without thinking. He only really realized what he had said when saw the look of surprise on all their faces. "W-what?" Kuramochi was the first to break out in laughter, but Miyuki followed suit rather quickly. Ryo just grinned.

"What a thing to say," Miyuki sniggered. "And how am I supposed to interpret that, Fu-ru-ya?" The way he said his name then caused Furuya's heart beat to race. He wasn't sure how to answer. "Well?"

"Uh," he glanced over at Kuramochi and Ryo who were staring at him. Damn. This had been going well, but now he was backed into a corner.

"Hold on, nevermind," Miyuki said quickly. "I get off in a bit, so just hang on then we'll talk." Furuya was dumbfounded as Miyuki just chuckled and shooed him over to a table. What was that supposed to mean? What was happening? He didn't know what to do so he just sat at a table and waited.

About fifteen minutes later Miyuki came trotting over and sat down across from him. "So," he said, "Haruichi said you used play baseball, is that right?" Okay, he didn't know what he'd expected, but it wasn't that.

"Um, yeah, I was a pitcher," he answered quietly. He was actually pretty confident in his pitching abilities, but he didn't feel this was the right time to brag.

"Do you still play?"

"Yeah, a little." Furuya had no clue where this was going.

"Are you free next Saturday, then?" he asked with a big smile on his face.

"Huh?" Miyuki just laughed at him.

"If you're free you should come to the local baseball field at 1:00 and play ball with us. A lot of my old teammates show up; it'll be fun." Then Miyuki gave him a sly grin, "and afterwards, we can have fun just the two of us." Furuya's face was on fire. Miyuki leaned forward, placing a small piece of paper in front of him. He stopped breathing when Miyuki leaned in and whispered, "call me," in his ear before turning around to leave. Once Miyuki was out of the shop, Furuya covered his face with his hands. Was this really happening? Did Furuya really have a date with him? He couldn't stop himself from smiling. Maybe he should be a little be a little more confident in the future. After all, he was Miyuki's type.

He met Miyuki at the baseball field that Saturday. Kuramochi and Ryo were there too. He learned that apparently, Kuramochi had gone to school with Miyuki and Ryo as well and did, in fact, used to be a delinquent, but Ryo straightened him out in high school and that's when they started dating. Miyuki also revealed that him and Kuramochi were currently roommates at their university, but he thought that Kuramochi might move in with Ryo once he graduates. Furuya told him that him and Sawamura had met in high school playing baseball and had somehow ended up being roommates when they started at university, which was a little less than a year ago.

"So you are younger than me," Miyuki confirmed as they walked down a dimly lit street away from the field. "I wasn't sure since you look so mature," he added with a grin.

"Not by that much," Furuya contested. Miyuki let out a single laugh before turning to look up at him.

"True, I only have a year over you, but you can learn a lot in a year." Furuya felt like he was egging him on somehow. Normally Furuya would just shut down, but he was feeling pretty confident with Miyuki, especially after showing off his pitching skills earlier.

"Maybe you could teach me a thing or two." Miyuki's eyes widened for a moment before he burst out laughing.

"My, my, aren't we cheeky," he chided, bringing his hand up and placing it on the back of Furuya's head. Furuya stiffened at the contact, but let Miyuki pull him down closer. "Maybe I will," he said softly before meeting their lips. Furuya melted into the kiss, cupping his hands over Miyuki's face and pressing harder against his lips. Miyuki pulled away before he could do any more. He smiled up at him, breathing hard and cheeks flushed. Furuya could get used to this. "So," Miyuki said, placing a finger to Furuya's chest and giving him that sly grin he had when he invited him here last week, "about that fun stuff with just the two of us." Yeah, Furuya could definitely get used to this.
