Chapter Text
After the end of World War Two, as a part of the Potsdam Conference, Germany was split into East and West. While Ludwig remained in West Germany, Gilbert was taken to Russia, for what Ivan called “protection”, forcing him to leave his family indefinitely. Eventually, the pain of missing his family made Gilbert homesick, leading him to ask the Baltic States what he should do. They suggested sending letters to his family, so they could at least have some contact.
He never did.
Following the fall of the Berlin Wall, Gilbert took his things from Russia and moved back into Ludwig’s house. Among the things he brought back were years of letters addressed to Ludwig and Roderich which he hid in a shoe box on a shelf in Ludwig’s spare room, hoping no one would find them.
Someone did.
