Work Text:
In that moment, Kuramochi hated Miyuki with a passion. They were currently waiting in line for scariest roller coaster in the amusement park. And, it certainly was an amusement park because all of Kuramochi’s suffering seemed to be for Miyuki’s amusement.
Miyuki had already dragged him on a few rides, but none of them had been monstrosities like this one was. It had the steepest drop and the biggest loop out of all the coasters in the park.
When Kuramochi had agreed to grant Miyuki one birthday favor, this was not what he had imagined the evil boy would ask for. However, he couldn’t back out of his promise, so he was currently stuck in line, watching in fear as the coaster ran its course again, circling above their heads like an evil vulture waiting to pick at what was left of Kuramochi after the five rides they had already gone on.
He didn’t understand how anyone could actually find joy in waiting in line for hours on end only to be utterly terrified for a whole ninety seconds. Granted, the lines today weren’t too bad since they were skipping classes to go, and it was a weekday.
When he had walked onto the university campus, he had been excited to find out who his roommate was. When he met the smug, evil, bastard asshole that was Miyuki, he had wished to any deities out there that it had been some sort of cruel joke. But it hadn’t been.
Though, after a year together, he was grateful for Miyuki, and he knew Miyuki felt the same, even though neither of them would ever admit it. So, the two of them decided to continue to be roommates for the following year. The only time Kuramochi had regretted that decision was in that moment as he stood in line with Miyuki.
He managed to refrain from voicing his fear the entire time they were in line, so he at least felt proud of himself for that. He managed to keep talking about normal things with Miyuki to distract himself, and, although he was sure Miyuki knew what he was trying to do, Miyuki didn’t mention it or tease him about it for once.
It all took a turn when they reached the top of the line. They had merged in with the people who had passes for the shorter line and were currently being sorted by groups so they could pair single riders together. When the employee asked how many people were in his group, Kuramochi opened his mouth to say that there were two, but Miyuki beat him to it.
“Oh, he’s riding alone. I don’t like roller coasters, but I wanted to come with him to the park, so I wait in line with him because I see that as the fun part, and then I wait on the other side while he rides,” he said as he shot Kuramochi a grin that could only be described as pure evil.
To make matters worse, Miyuki opened up his big fat mouth again. “Oh, and he’d like to ride in the very front.”
The employee pulled Kuramochi aside, who was still utterly speechless with shock, and looked back at the line.
“Any single riders who want to ride in the front?”
A pink-haired boy who had merged into the line when the short line mixed with the long line raised his hand. He had been a few people behind Kuramochi and Miyuki, and Kuramochi remembered noticing his unusual hair color.
He had been too distracted earlier by his impending doom to notice how utterly perfect the boy was. As the smaller boy walked over, he couldn’t get over how sweet the boy looked, as if he was some sort of angel.
“Hi, I’m Kuramochi Youichi,” he said when the boy made it over to him.
“Kominato Ryousuke,” he responded, looking at Kuramochi before getting into the appropriate line.
Kuramochi shot a glare at Miyuki, who was now on the other side, waiting where everyone who finishes with the ride goes.
Miyuki simply grinned at him and held up his hand, wiggling his fingers. Kuramochi made a mental note to later replace his body wash with hair removal cream. Shampoo would be too easy—he could easily shave the rest, and it would grow back quickly. He’s always wearing hats and beanies anyways. No, he would replace his body wash with hair removal cream and watch him suffer as he had no body hair whatsoever.
Grinning to himself, he was brought back to the problem of his impending doom when he heard the roller coaster pull back into the station. There was a pair in front of them, and then they were next. Kuramochi was not ready. Not to mention that he now had the added factor that he would be paired with an overwhelmingly cute boy.
Great, I’m going to embarrass myself.
Ryousuke, however, looked completely unphased by Kuramochi’s impending doom and didn’t seem to notice how nervous or scared he was, which was fine by Kuramochi, though he knew it wouldn’t last.
Kuramochi watched nervously as the couple in front of them got onto the coaster.
“Do you want the right or left side?” Ryousuke asked, turning to look at Kuramochi.
“Oh, uh, the, uhm, right side,” he stammered out. That way I can get off first and run far, far away from this death trap.
Ryousuke nodded and moved behind him, watching with a smile as the train took off.
Kuramochi decided to distract himself. “So, why are you at an amusement park by yourself?”
Ryousuke hummed slightly and turned to look at him. “Oh, my brother isn’t the biggest fan of roller coasters, so he refuses to come with me. Not after the first time I dragged him here and made him ride all of them with me, anyways.”
Smart boy , Kuramochi thought to himself, trying to ignore the fact that it was nearly their turn. “My friend dragged me here as his birthday present and then ditched me here so that I could suffer,” he said.
Kuramochi tried to keep his stomach under control as he climbed into the seat, and Ryousuke climbed in next to him, shooting him a smile that warmed Kuramochi’s heart.
“So, you’re saying that you’re scared?”
Kuramochi felt his cheeks heat up. How can someone so nice and sweet in appearance smile at me like that and speak with his soft, angelic voice and sound so utterly mocking as he does so?
“You’re mocking me?” he managed to force out.
Ryousuke seemed to taunt him with the now-evident faux expression of kindness on his face. “I’m simply saying that it’ll be fun to watch how scared you are.”
“You’re sadistic,” Kuramochi said breathily as he tried not to focus on how high up they were.
“Yep,” came the sweet reply and Ryousuke smiled at him once again and pulled their safety restraints down. Kuramochi nervously watched as an employee checked all their restraints before giving the okay.
When the ride started to move, Kuramochi screamed, and he could hear Miyuki burst into laughter behind him as Ryousuke shot him a slightly bewildered look.
“The ride just started,” he said, looking at Kuramochi.
“Oh, shove it! I know!” Kuramochi snapped back, and he heard another burst of laughter from Miyuki, who undoubtedly had heard his exclamation. He anxiously ran a hand through his hair, watching as the their car slowly climbed the first hill.
Closing his eyes tightly, he gripped the bar in front of him. “I’m going to die! Miyuki, I’m going to kill you! Oh my f—”
The rest of his panicked ramblings were cut off in the form of a blood-curdling scream when he felt the world drop out from under him as the coaster shot downwards. He vaguely registered laughter from next to him, and he realized that closing his eyes was only making the motions—the steady, antagonizing climbs and the rapid drops—even worse.
Completely opposite to his panicked state, Ryousuke looked like he was having the time of his life.
He’s insane , Kuramochi thought as he heard a laugh tear free from his pink-haired companion’s chest. I’m sitting next to a maniac. I’m sitting next to a psychotic maniac, and my roommate is a psychotic maniac. Am I surrounded by maniacs? Am I some sort of maniac magnet—OH MY GOSH WE’RE WAY TOO HIGH!
He heard another blood-curdling scream from his own mouth as they plummeted to what Kuramochi was sure was going to be his death—
And then they were upside down. He felt the ride stop, and he opened his eyes in a panic, starting to freak out again as he stared at the open abyss that was between his upside down body and the ground.
He heard another fit of laughter from beside him, and he turned to see Ryousuke looking at him with an expression of what Kuramochi could only describe as pure glee—undoubtedly from the joy of watching the terrified expressions on Kuramochi’s face.
Glancing back down—or up since he was upside down—he felt like he might faint as he felt the ride start to roll backwards and then forwards.
He felt a hand on his arm, and he looked over at Ryousuke, whose demeanor seemed to have changed, seemingly almost sympathetic to Kuramochi’s extreme terror. “Relax, it’s part of the ride!” He yelled as the coaster train rolled backwards again and shot through the loop at what Kuramochi was convinced was faster than lightspeed.
Without fully registering what he was doing, Kuramochi moved his arm and grabbed the hand Ryousuke had placed on his arm, gripping it tightly. As the train climbed yet another horrifying hill, he felt Ryousuke lightly squeeze back, and he looked at the boy, momentarily distracted by the smile he gave him. That distraction, however, was fleeting as he felt them start to dip, and a scream tore from his lips. Ryousuke’s smile melted into a fit of laughter and Kuramochi’s cheeks heated up when he realized that he had screamed at a small dip in the track. Before he could dwell on his embarrassment, the dip turned into a free fall down the track, and Kuramochi squeezed his eyes tightly shut as another one of his screams filled the air.
The ride took them on a spiral, tilting to the right as it did so, and Kuramochi deeply regretted his decision to sit on the right, as he felt that he might fall right out, squeezing Ryousuke’s hand with a death grip as the shorter boy all but cackled beside him at Kuramochi’s fearful rambles and shrieks, laughing even more when the ride hurled them downwards once again and Kuramochi screamed as if he was being murdered.
At the end of the ride, there was one more small dip, and Kuramochi let out yet another ear-splitting scream as he thought they were about to plummet again, only to watch as they approached the station.
As the train pulled into the station, Kuramochi could hear Ryousuke’s continued laughter, and his cheeks heated up in embarrassment. Realizing he had been holding Ryousuke’s hand nearly the entire time, his face heated up even more and he released his grip on Ryousuke’s hand. Ryousuke chuckled and followed suit, looking at Kuramochi.
“You really are a scaredy cat,” his tauntingly sweet voice said as Ryousuke both teased and mocked him.
Kuramochi’s blush deepened as he searched for Miyuki, who was undoubtedly never going to let this go. However, he was nowhere to be found. Confused, he pulled out his phone to call him and was greeted by a text message from Miyuki.
“Eijun just arrived. I’m heading to the front to go get him, so meet me there. Also, your screams were priceless,” the text read.
“That asshole left me!” Kuramochi exclaimed, and Ryousuke looked at him in confusion.
“What?” he asked as they were released from the ride and climbed out.
“My friend, the one who stuck me on that death trap by myself, he left me here to go get his boyfriend at the park entrance!” he explained furiously. I’m seriously going to kill Miyuki!
Ryousuke smiled ever so slightly at him, and Kuramochi felt his chest tighten. “I’m by myself anyways, and you’d obviously be the third wheel for your friend and his boyfriend, so why don’t you hang out with me for the rest of the day?” he suggested.
Kuramochi felt his cheeks flush and he nodded. “That sounds like fun,” he said.
Ryousuke turned, but Kuramochi caught a glimpse of a gleeful smile on his lips.
“Well, then keep up, Scaredy Cat,” he said tauntingly as he walked away, and Kuramochi couldn’t help the grin that took over his face as he ran after him.
