Chapter Text
Harriet noticed an unknown owl perched outside of her bedroom window. She was grateful that all her relatives were currently on vacation outside of Surrey. Otherwise she would be dead on site by her Uncle. She let the poor owl in and immediately offered it some owl treats and water.
She was curious about the letter. 'It couldn't be from Hadrien nor Ron.' She thought to herself. Her older brother had a snowy owl named Athena. Plus Ron still had Pigwidgeon and no new family owl. It really was a mystery writer to her as she had a feeling her friends wouldn't try and contact her. At least not Hermione and Ginny as they were so far down the Headmaster's pocket. Ron would give it a go if he isn't stopped by his mother.
'I really should stop procrastinating and open the letter.' Sighing to herself as she stared down at her lap where it laid. A nervousness settled into her skin as she worried about the contents within the letter. Once she put up her false confidence she finally opened the letter. Gasping lightly at the heartfelt letter from someone she wasn't expecting from in her entire life.
To my dearest blooming flower, Harriet
I know we haven't been in the best of relations, my mate. You probably think I am the worst man in this entire universe. For that I am sorry, I never meant to hurt you through any of this. I truely wasn't in the correct state of mind. Though this may seem like an excuse, it is not one. For all the pain and suffering I brought upon you; I'd understand if you'd never found it in your heart to forgive me. I guess what I am trying to get at is that you are my mate. The only one in this world where I would gladly let myself burn in my sin. Only so, I could prove myself worthy of you love. I've done so may things that I could never take back. Even so, I would like to wish you a belated birthday.
I have sent you two gifts. One for your birthday and another as a courting gift. If you do not understand what courting is... Perhaps it would be best to contact your Godfather or Uncle of sorts. It's easier if someone you trust explain such things.
Forever yours, Tom Marvolo Riddle
Harriet stared at the letter for what seemed to be the longest of time. She was missing Hedwig whom she had sent to stay with Remus and Sirius for the weekend. Fearing that her longest companion would parish at her relatives hands if she had not. Carefully she decided to reread the letter again. As so many emotions coursed through her mind as she reread the entirety of the letter.
Tears unknowingly slipped through Harriet's eyes. Only noticing once it hit the letter. She quickly wiped her tears away. Before she heard a quiet tapping on her window. Turning around and facing the window she saw her companion. "Hedwig." She cried softly hurrying to open her window. "I'm so glad to see you." She smiled at her with a tear stained face.
Hedwig happily flew into the room through the already opened window. Letting the letters she was carrying fall onto her human's lap. Carefully allowing herself to land on their shoulder, bumping her head on her cheek. Hedwig missed her human hatchling when she was at her hatchling's godfather's place. But, she wondered why her hatchling was crying. She hooted softly with concern towards Harriet.
"Oh Hedwig. I'm fine, it's just a lot of things are going through my head at the moment." She giggled as Hedwig continued to nuzzle her. Hooting loudly as if asking her to explain. "Your really lucky they aren't home right now or you would have gotten us both killed." She mumbled to herself, only getting another loud hoot from Hedwig in response. "Alright, alright I was crying because of a letter I received from Voldemort." She sighed softly before she continued. "Don't get me wrong it was really sweet of him. But it's just not from them; Ron, Hermione, Ginny, Mrs. Weasley or even Dumbledore had not sent a single happy birthday to me. Yet, my supposed enemy has sent me one."She burst into a sobbing mess, completely forgetting about the letters Hedwig had dropped on her lap.
Hedwig flapped her wings in distress. Not liking that her hatchling was crying because of her idiotic friend group. So, she promised that if she saw her hatchling's so called friends, she would use her sharp talons to make them blind. She looked at her Harriet thinking of a way to make her happy again. Then remembered the letters had just delivered onto her hatchling's lap. She hooted gently to get Harriet's attention but she couldn't seem too. So, Hedwig decided it was best to wait and comfort her hatchling the best she could.
Once completely calm, Harriet noticed the two additional letters on her lap. She looked at Hedwig sheepishly. "I should probably read those, shouldn't I?" A small giggle escaped her lips as Hedwig gave and affirmative hoot. Carefully Harriet gingerly picked up and opened a letter that was written by Remus.
To my dearest little Moonlight,
Happy birthday, Sweetie and many more to come. I can't help but tell you not to trust Dumbledore at the moment. This may be confusing, if I didn't already know you doubted the headmaster's intentions towards your person. It came to my recent attention from the bumbling arsehole, himself that he is using you for this war. Just because he seemingly has a grudge against your mate. While somehow single-handedly making said mate into the bloody fucking dark lord Voldemort... My apologize, Moonlight. However, the headmaster is drying my patients to the ground currently.
I'd like to mention that he also startled rambling about paying Mrs. Weasley and Ginny from your own vaults . I highly doubt Mr. Weasley, Ron or his brothers are aware of this matter. There was no mention of any male Weasleys in his quiet ramblings. However, to my shocking surprise Miss Granger was mentioned in a similar way to Mrs. Weasley and Ginny. I believe it's best not to trust either of the three. Unless they proof themselves not being in that fool's pocket.
On a brighter note your brother, Hadrian offered us a place in his house. Seeing as your somehow always in contact with each other. It won't mean we won't have to say goodbye. I love you and I really wish you the best.
Love from your, Uncle Moony
Harriet felt anger and hurt seep through her. She felt like she should cry but she didn't. There was one thing that Harriet was not and that was a weapon for war. She tried to calm herself down not wanting to turn the Dursley's house into a frozen popsicle stand. She saw Hedwig look ready to murder her so called friends and headmaster. "Hedwig I promise you can rip their eyes out later but you have to have Athena with you." She saw the mention her hawks name settled Hedwig greatly. "Now lets read the last letter so I can open my mate's presents." She said childishly as Hedwig chirped in agreement. Harriet opened the letter in a hurry.
Dear, Cubette
You must feel angry and sad because of Remmy's letter but look on the bright side you can send Hedwig and Athena to blind there sorry asses. On that note you also know that your brother asked us to stay at his place. I want to meet you at the park so we can go into his territory...I don't need to tell you to get your lord ring thingy but just in case bring your lord ring thingy.
From your favorite Dogfather
Harriet let out a small snort. "Your my only Dogfather like Uncle Moony is my only Dog Uncle." She shook her head. Hedwig flew onto her shoulder. "Well Hedwig what do you say we open the present Tom sent me. I think he told me one of them is a courting present." She giggled softly as Hedwig hooted and nibbled her ear affectionately. She slowly stood up to grab the presents with Hedwig still on her shoulder. "Hedwig why don't you perch on the bed so I don't startle you with my movements." Hedwig hooted and did what she asked. She grabbed the presents and sat on her bed. "Which one should I open Hedwig?" She looked at the two presents wrapped in red and the other in green.
Hedwig looked at her Harriet then at the presents. She flew onto the red wrapping paper and started to peck at it. Once she indicated that she wanted her Harriet to open it. After she did that she flew back to her spot.
"Thank you Hedwig, you didn't need to attack it." She giggled softly and started opening the red present. She took out two books one was a velvet dairy that had her full name etched into it and the other was brown. "These must be the birthday presents Tom was talking about." Hedwig hooted telling her to open the green one. "Okay, okay no need to rush me you silly little owl." She happily opened her courting gift. Inside was a box she carefully opened and it revealed a jewelry set. The necklace had a silver snake with emerald eyes coiled into an H as did the earrings that matched with it. Next to them was a single bracelet that again looked like a silver snake with emerald eyes but inside the bracelet there were words etched into it reading ' my love may this forever protect you from harm.' her face turned dark red. "I-i'm going to have to go to Gringotts as Lady Ice." She mumbled to herself.
