Work Text:
Two months.
It had been two months since Atsushi last saw Akutagawa. With both their schedules never lining up anymore, they could barely even text with their burner phones, so the texts that were sent were always passive aggressive and sent with the wrong tone of voice. They felt awful, but even a ‘sorry’ felt sarcastic.
But tonight, that changes. Akutagawa finally gets back in town and they both have the weekend off. With holidays coming up, all work had seemed to die down for the both of them. For now at least.
Atsushi was impatiently pacing back and forth around his apartment, waiting for the phone call to let him know that Akutagawa was on his way over. Time felt like it was passing so slowly. Every second felt like a minute, each minute felt like an hour. Finally the little tone of Atsushi’s phone going off, Akutagawa’s special ringtone. He answered as soon as he could grab hold of his phone.
“Hello??” Atsushi called out in pure excitement.
“Hey. It’s me. I’m about five minutes away, I’m sorry I didn’t give you more of a heads up but I was being trailed and had to lose them.” The rasped responded.
“No, no! You’re good. Totally fine. Do you… uh.. need help?”
“No. They lost me. Just look for me on the corner for Juniper, by your apartments.”
Atsushi could barely get a word in before the phone call ended. He anxiously paced a few more times, checking himself in the only mirror he owned. His bangs were as calmed as they could be, sticking out slightly less than normal. He straightened couch cushions and made sure all odds and ends were in place and not a single dust bunny in sight. He sat down on the couch with a large sigh, when the knock of Akutagawa had arrived. He jolted up and opened the door as fast as he could. The biggest smile on his face, his eyes shined brighter than diamonds. He embraced Akutagawa with a long hug and pulled him inside.
Akutagawa had barely gotten a ‘hello’ out before Atsushi had attacked him with kisses. That feeling of missing someone so hard and finally, finally, being able to kiss their soft lips had completely overwhelmed the both of them.
After a moment, Atsushi puled away and looked at Akutagawa in a long silence. He grinned and rubbed the older mans check.
“I’ve missed you more than words can say.” Atsushi said with another peck against Akutagawa’s lips.
“I noticed. I’ve… missed you as well.” Akutagawa gave an awkward smile back. He wasn’t good with feelings, especially the… lovey dove kind. It always took him a few extra steps to be comfortable with such things, and though they had never actually said they loved one another, their hearts said otherwise. Akutagawa held Atsushi’s hands and gave him a slightly awkward kiss before taking off his coat and shoes. Atsushi just patiently waited, grinning twice as wide as normal, earning a small chuckle from Akutagawa as his childlike glee. Atsushi took his hand and led him to the couch, sitting down and patting the spot next to him for Akutagawa to sit as well. Once sat down, Atsushi wrapped his arms around Akutagawa’s shoulders and leaned his head on him. He looked up and grinned, with a quiet “I’ve missed you so much, Ryuu” barely leaving his lips.
Akutagawa smiled and pushed him to lie down on the couch, burrowing his head into Atsushi’s chest.
“I’ve missed you too, Jinko.” He said softly and kissed his collarbone before laying his head down and just relaxing. It had been so long for the both of them that they could just… relax. Without worries the worries from work, or their daily… abnormal lives they live.
They let a few minutes pass, just laying there, Atsushi running his fingers through Akutagawa’s hair, while Akutagawa took in the smell of Atsushi that he missed so dearly. Scents of lavender and chamomile filled his nose and he nuzzled deeper into other younger mans chest.
Akutagawa was the first to break the silence, with a long sigh before slowly getting off of Atsushi. Akutagawa half his cheek lovingly before saying, “I’m hungry. I haven’t eaten a real meal in days. Please, please tell me you have something for me to eat.”
Atsushi chuckled before getting off the couch and starting to name off the thing he had readily available.
“I’ve got leftover chazuke, some rice that’s… more than a few days old, I guess I should toss that. Oh! There’s some miso shiru I made last night, and I think… ah! yes! I’ve still got some salmon I can grill up, too!” He excitedly pulled the fish and soup out of the fridge, grinning and shoving them out in front of him.
“So… breakfast foods is about all you have…?”
“yeah.. I guess I’m not really here for lunch and then I end up skipping dinner most nights because of work, and getting something cheap on the way home before crashing and sleeping.”
“Lets go out. Somewhere nice, my treat.”
“But..” Atsushi started while putting the food back in the fridge. “Won’t people see us together and that raise alarms?”
Akutagawa walked up and wrapped them around the smaller mans torso.
“No. I’ve got places we can go that won’t raise suspicions. We’ll be safe and have a nice dinner together.”
Akutagawa gently kissed the back of Atsushi's neck and smiled at him when he turned around.
